Speaker 1 (00:00):
Nearly one in two
people will face cancer in their
lifetime.
With toxicity, stress andnutritional deficiencies on the
rise, it's no surprise, butthere are ways to support the
body naturally before, duringand after cancer treatment, as
you'll discover in this episode.
(00:20):
This topic is deeply personalfor me, and I'll share one
specific instance that shaped mypassion for holistic healing
and resilience.
In this episode, we'll explorepowerful, science-backed
strategies to reduce treatmentside effects, optimize healing
and restore energy, discover howintegrative health can make a
(00:41):
difference, and stay tuned tillthe end for an amazing new
resource and share it withsomeone who needs this.
Hello, I'm Jeffrey Mort.
If you're like mostentrepreneurs, you're busy
taking care of business, yetwho's taking care of you?
If you're ready to take yourenergy and performance to the
next level in your life and yourbusiness, then this podcast is
(01:02):
for you, because today you'regoing to start breaking
boundaries of your mind, bodyand business with integrative
health, and when you do that, your possibilities are limitless
.
I'm grateful you're here.
Ah, yes, always grateful foryou joining me here today.
I'm your host, Jeffrey Mort, your personal integrative health
(01:24):
practitioner, and today we areexploring the benefits of
integrative health for cancersupport.
And today we're exploring thegrowing cancer crisis and the
benefits of integrative healthfor cancer support, and why we
need a holistic approach.
(01:44):
Cancer is no longer a rarediagnosis.
In fact, projections show thatnearly one in two people will
face cancer by the year 2030,and I know 2030 sounds like it's
a lifetime away, but honestlyit's.
You know, we're here in uh afew months into 2025.
It's only five years away, orless than five years away.
(02:05):
We are actually closer to 2030than uh.
2018 is is behind us.
Can you?
Can you imagine that?
Like?
That's just mind-boggling.
And this staggering statisticraises the question why is
cancer becoming so prevalent?
Many experts point to acombination of factors Toxicity,
(02:27):
overload from chemicals in ourfood, in our water, in our air.
Nutritional deficiencies due todepleted soil and processed
foods and diets, and chemicalsin our growing process.
Chronic stress and poor sleepthat weaken the immune immune
function and we're gonna go alittle bit deeper into that in
(02:47):
just a moment hormonalimbalances and inflammation
driven by lifestyle andenvironmental factors.
While conventional medicinefocuses on treating the disease
itself, it often overlookssupporting the body as a whole,
before, during and aftertreatment.
And that's where integrativehealth comes in, providing a
(03:09):
path to reduce side effects, optimize healing and restore
vitality, and I know firsthandhow devastating this can be, and
I'll explain why this is sopersonal for me.
I'm about to share a part of mystory that you may have read in
our latest From the Heartletter that's delivered every
(03:29):
single Sunday morning right toyour inbox.
If you've been missing out, youcan actually start getting it
by signing up in today's shownotes.
So the story before I was evenborn, my mom, at just 30 years
old, was diagnosed with chronicleukemia, a form of blood cancer
, and this is a challenge thatshe faced with immense courage.
(03:52):
She narrowly survived my birthand later underwent bone marrow
transplants, thanks to heridentical twin sister being a
perfect donor.
So she had that going for her,and for years it seemed to be in
remission.
But in 1979, when I was just sixyears old, things got worse,
(04:13):
and one day in August I sat ather bedside in a top Boston
hospital holding her hand as shepassed away, and even though I
was young, I remember the pain, the exhaustion and the
uncertainty her treatmentsbrought, not only to her, but
more so to my dad and threeolder siblings.
(04:33):
For me it was a completelydifferent experience.
My mom mentally prepared meover six years for her
transition back into thenon-physical and I was to remain
a pillar of support for my dadand, in a spiritual sense, I
never lost contact with her.
I still feel very connected toher, even today, and that's
(04:56):
something that I can go deeperin and I will go deeper in,
probably not on the podcast, butin our From the Heart letter.
So if you're interested inhearing more of that story, stay
tuned over there in thatnewsletter.
So her journey, needless to say,her journey is one of the
reasons that I am so passionateabout helping people support
(05:17):
their bodies, especially women'shealth and family health, even
through cancer.
Even through cancer, not toreplace medical treatment, but
to enhance quality of life, reduce discomfort and empower
healing the.
The body has that innateability to be able to heal.
So before we dive in, you knowwe're we're talking about a very
(05:37):
sensitive subject here, notjust personally for people like
myself, but for censorship aswell.
And as a quick note, I'm notproviding medical advice.
I'm not claiming to diagnose, treat or cure disease.
Integrative health that worksalongside conventional care to
support the body's naturalhealing processes.
(05:57):
So always consult with yourdoctor before we make, before
making any changes to yourhealth routine.
So you probably already know, cancer doesn't develop overnight
.
It's often considered theresult of an overburdened and
weakened immune systemstruggling to keep up with the
daily assaults from toxins, chronic stress, poor nutrition,
(06:19):
inflammation all of those things.
And when optimized, our bodiesnaturally identify and eliminate
abnormal cells every single day.
But when the immune system iscompromised, it may fail to
detect or even destroy theserogue cells before they begin to
multiply.
And research shows that factorslike gut dysbiosis, nutrient
(06:43):
deficienciesiencies, especiallyvitamin D and zinc environmental
toxins and chronic infectionscan suppress immune function,
creating conditions where cancercan thrive.
By focusing on immuneresilience through
detoxification, proper nutrition, stress reduction, foundational
(07:03):
sleep, we can support thebody's natural defense
mechanisms and reduce the riskof cancer taking hold.
So let's explore the benefitsof integrative health for cancer
support.
I want this podcast episode tobe very actionable, and let me
(07:23):
be clear on my position herethat early detection and
conventional treatment arecritical, but there are proven
ways to support the bodyholistically during and after
cancer treatment.
So here's how integrativehealth can help.
Firstly, reducing treatmentside effects.
Chemotherapy, radiation andmedications can cause nausea,
(07:47):
fatigue, neuropathy, andSupporting the body can help
minimize these effects.
So here are some actionablesteps to take.
You know, hypothetically, ifyou're going through this
Strategic intermittent fastingthis is like the number one
thing Before and afterchemotherapy has been shown not
only to reduce side effects butto actually enhance the
(08:11):
effectiveness of treatment oncancer cells without damaging
here's the important partwithout damaging the healthy
cells.
And you know I don't want tospend too much time on this
because I have a lot to coverbut what happens is intermittent
fasting sort of puts thehealthy cells into kind of into
hibernation, where the treatmentthen can only attack and that
(08:33):
doesn't happen.
That the hibernation part doesnot happen to the cancer cells.
So it's called autophagy.
The autophagy kind of putsthose other healthy cells into
the background to do some otherwork and the treatment is able
to go after the cancer cellsbecause they're more exposed.
So next, you know, so that'skind of I wouldn't say an
(08:59):
extreme, because it's not hardto do, it's not costing any
money.
You're actually doing less asintermittent fasting, right,
you're just not eating for acertain duration but you're
staying hydrated.
I could go into that and we'lltalk a little bit more about
intermittent fasting in a minute.
But simply drinking ginger teaor using something like an
acupressure wristband canactually help to reduce nausea
(09:20):
naturally.
So you know very, very simpleorganic ginger.
You can make your own tea rightat home.
Really easy to do.
Next, incorporating B vitaminsand magnesium to support things
like nerve health, to bufferstress and reduce neuropathy,
can help with those side effects.
And then one of my favorites isusing infrared sauna therapy as
(09:41):
tolerated, of course, like ifsomebody is very depleted and
their nervous system isdysregulated.
You don't want to go too highof a temperature for too long on
the infrared sauna, but thiscan help to promote circulation,
build up the heat shock, proteins and resiliency of the
body and, of course, detoxification as well.
(10:04):
So, number two, optimizingnutrition for healing.
Yeah, diet has a lot to do withit.
It really does.
Proper nutrition is essentialfor cellular repair, for
detoxification and immuneresilience.
The right foods can reduceinflammation and provide the
body with key nutrients.
So focus on ananti-inflammatory diet.
(10:26):
So foods like wild caughtsalmon, leafy greens or even
spices such as turmeric willhelp with inflammation.
Avoid processed sugars andrefined grains.
These are the things thatpromote inflammation.
So we want to avoid thoseinflammatory foods.
And then, of course, stayinghydrated and drinking daily
(10:46):
green smoothies with organicvegetables, with berries.
We're talking about polyphenolsand antioxidants, and that
plant-based protein as well isvery, very important to get in
there, because you want abalance between your macros,
which are your carbohydrates, your are your carbohydrates,
your protein and your healthyfats.
And you know we're notdemonizing uh carbohydrates here
(11:08):
at the breaking boundariespodcast.
There's a difference betweensimple carbs and complex carbs,
and we're talking about complexcarbs are beneficial for the
body in every way.
So number three, addressing themind body connection cancer it's
not just a physical uh.
You know I don't like to usethe word battle, but for lack of
a better word right now, I'lluse that, but we'll talk about
(11:31):
that in our resource section atthe end here.
So it's an emotional and mentalgame as well.
Stress, trauma, emotionalresilience they all play a huge
role in healing.
So you can practice things likeguided meditation or especially
breath work for at least fiveminutes a day.
Try hypnosis or neuro-linguisticprogramming to shift the
(11:53):
mindset towards healing.
We have a great hypnosis audiolibrary over at our private
wellness practice Love EnergyWellness.
Over at our private wellnesspractice, love Energy Wellness.
If you go over there, click onthe navigation tab that says
Audio Shop and check out theImagine Wellness hypnosis audio.
It's maybe 10 or 15 minuteslong, and use that twice a day,
(12:13):
use it upon waking, use itbefore bed and you can even use
it midday, and that will helpyou to shift that mindset into a
healing mode.
And then, of course, keeping agratitude journal to maintain
that emotional strength.
And another suggestion is tosurround yourself by people that
are supportive rather thanpeople that see the person as
(12:37):
somebody who is sick or ill.
I could go into a differenttangent there, but but I'm not
gonna to, I'm not gonna go downthat road right now, just
because of time.
And so, number fourdetoxification support.
After intensive treatments, thebody needs help eliminating
toxins safely.
So functional medicine focuseson liver function, on lymphatic
(13:02):
drainage and on cellular repair.
These are things that youroncologist, your primary care
physician, are most likely nottalking about, unless, of course
, you're dealing with a holisticoncologist, which I'll talk
about in just a moment.
So some actionable steps Very, very simple Drinking lemon water
in the morning to gentlysupport liver detoxification.
(13:24):
Just make sure it's clean, filtered water or spring water.
Add some fresh lemon in there, maybe a pinch of sea salt to
taste.
I love the Redmond brand seasalt and that's a great way to
do that.
Start off your day and you caneven do that again in the
afternoon.
I actually have an alarm set onmy phone for 3.30 in the
afternoon that reminds me todrink my lemon water.
(13:44):
It's you know, I'm immersed inmy day by 3 30, so I need that
reminder.
First thing in the morning Iget up, I go to the kitchen, I
mix up that lemon water with seasalt.
Uh, usually a little dailyfruit and vegetable blend powder
.
Usually a little bit of uh,alkalizing vitamin c in there,
and then that's my morning drinkevery single day.
Incorporate dry brushing andlymphatic massage to promote
(14:06):
toxin elimination.
Especially if you're going todo a sauna.
Do the dry brushing or foamrolling just before you get in
the sauna.
That's a great way to activatethat lymph.
Remember, the lymphatic systemin the body is one of the
systems without a pump, so weneed to be walking, we need to
be dry brushing, we need to befoam rolling, to getting massage
(14:28):
, lymphatic massage, to be ableto activate that lymphatic
system, to move that lymph tothe lymph nodes and then, of
course, to the liver and thenprocessed out.
And then taking a high-qualitybinder supplement like activated
charcoal or chlorella.
The one that we recommend isover on our shop page,
loveandagwellnesscom.
Forward slash shop and you canfind the universal binder over
(14:49):
there.
I can't link up any supplementshere in the podcast, but I just
told you where to find them andthat helps to d uh to support
detoxification pathways and thenincorporating fasting, as we
mentioned earlier, or a fullfunctional medicine detox
protocol into your wellnesssupport routine.
I have an entire podcastepisode on the four ways of
(15:11):
fasting.
It's breaking boundaries,episode number 78.
I'll link that up or you canuse the search tab on our
podcast page to find that.
And then, last but not least, number five restoring energy and
vitality.
That's what we're about over atLove Energy Wellness is
optimizing energy and vitality.
Cancer and its treatments candeplete the body's reserves,
(15:33):
leaving many people with chronicfatigue.
And of course you know notdiagnosing anything here, but
just as a term chronic fatigueand hormonal imbalances.
Diagnosing anything here, butjust as a term chronic fatigue
and hormonal imbalances.
Functional lab testing can helpidentify deficiencies in
vitamins and in minerals and inhormones to be able to restore
optimal function.
So ideally I would recommendfive at-home functional health
(15:57):
tests that will tell the fullstory that you may be missing in
the blood work and we need toknow this information for what
needs the most attention?
And at a minimum, I would getone of those five tests, which
is called the minerals andmetals test, also known as the
hair tissue mineral analysistest, to assess key mineral
(16:18):
imbalances and heavy metaltoxicity as well.
And you may consider taking uhadrenal soothing supplements
like ashwagandha or rhodiola.
We actually have you can findit in the same place at our shop
page a product called adrenalsoothe to be able to help calm
that central nervous system andget a good deep night's sleep as
(16:39):
well.
And then prioritizing qualitysleep by going to bed by 9 or 10
pm the same time every nightand then using blue light
filtering glasses, using redlight therapy, can certainly
help as well to set you up forthat quality sleep.
And we also have an amazingsleep help protocol that you can
(17:01):
find at loveenergywellnesscomslash sleep dash support.
And then, last but not leasthere, our new resource as
promised, I want to introduce toyou our cancer support page.
