Speaker 1 (00:00):
Have you ever felt
like, no matter how much you
rest, you're still exhausted, like your body's running on
empty, and no amount of caffeine, naps or motivation can fix it?
I know that feeling all toowell, because I lived it for
nearly two decades.
What I didn't realize at thetime was that my mitochondria,
(00:21):
the tiny little power plantsinside of every cell, were
breaking down, and the worstpart, the very things that I
thought were helping, the quickfixes from my medical doctor
that I'll share in this episodewere actually making it worse.
But here's the good news youcan rebuild your energy, reverse
the damage and reclaim yourvitality, and in today's episode
(00:46):
, you're about to discoverexactly how.
Stay tuned Hello, I'm JeffreyMort.
If you're like mostentrepreneurs, you're busy
taking care of business, yetwho's taking care of you?
If you're ready to take yourenergy and performance to the
next level in your life and yourbusiness, then this podcast is
for you, because today you'regoing to start breaking
(01:08):
boundaries of your mind, bodyand business with integrative
health, and when you do that, your possibilities are limitless
.
I'm grateful you're here.
Yes, I'm always grateful foryou joining me here.
Welcome back to BreakingBoundaries for Entrepreneurs.
I'm your host and personal highme here.
Welcome back to BreakingBoundaries for Entrepreneurs.
I'm your host and personalhigh-performance health coach,
jeffrey Mort, and today we arediving into a topic that impacts
(01:32):
every single person listeningyour energy, your longevity and
the tiny little powerhouses thatcontrol them your mitochondria.
Here's the reality one in threewomen and one in two men will
be diagnosed with cancer intheir lifetime.
(01:54):
Chronic illness, fatigue andinflammation are skyrocketing.
But why?
Why is this happening?
Modern life is draining ourmitochondria, the very
organelles responsible forproducing energy, repairing
cells and actually, yes, keepingus alive.
Processed foods, mitochondrialkillers, chronic stress,
(02:18):
mitochondrial destroyers, toxinsin our environment they weaken
your body's defenses at thecellular level.
But here's the good news youhave the personal power to fix
it, and today I'll share mypersonal story of battling years
of exhaustion and sickness andthe science behind mitochondrial
(02:40):
health, and I'm also going togive you an action plan to
reclaim your energy and vitality.
You're ready to break someboundaries, all right?
Well, as promised, let me sharea little bit of my story here,
about the years that I actuallyfelt trapped in my own body for
nearly two decades of my life.
(03:00):
So, going back from ages 23 to40 years old, I lived in this
cycle of sickness, pain andexhaustion, and it, you know, it
didn't come on like a freighttrain.
It started small, getting sickmore often, fatigue that never
really went away, pain thatbecame part of daily life for me
(03:21):
, and then it started to getworse.
I seemed to catch every cold, every flu and infection.
Recovery started to take weeks, not just days.
My body ached constantly.
I had zero energy and zerodrive.
And, of course, the conventionalsolution and I say solution in
(03:41):
air quotes if you're watching onvideo more medications.
So NSAIDs, non-steroidalanti-inflammatory drugs, every
single day for pain, and I'mtalking, they started me at 2400
milligrams, so that's an 800milligram ibuprofen.
These are heavy hitters herethree times a day.
(04:02):
And you know, keep in mind, I'mnot a very big individual at
five foot six, and at this timeactually I was kind of
overweight back then.
So I was north of 150 pounds,we'll say, but I think at my
heaviest I was like 180,actually, which was probably 30
(04:23):
to 40 pounds overweight.
But then, when the 2,400milligrams a day were not
touching the pain, my medicaldoctor simply said we'll just
take an extra one during the day.
So four 800s, so that's 3,200milligrams of ibuprofen every
single day and this just wasn'tshort term.
This was for years, probably adecade, that I was taking this
(04:46):
prescription, and thenantibiotics Every time I got
sick.
I call antibiotics the hammer, because from medical doctor's
perspective, when the only toolin the toolbox is antibiotics or
a hammer, then everythingbegins to look like a nail.
So every time I got a cold thatwouldn't go away or a flu that
(05:08):
wouldn't go away, they'd put meon antibiotics.
Anytime I got bitten by a tick, they would put me on
antibiotics.
No discussion about the rootcauses of what's go.
You know what could bepotentially the problem because
and you know, no disrespect tomy medical doctor she was a
sweetheart, I loved her, um, she, um was.
She ended up retiring and Iended up getting a new doctor at
(05:31):
some point.
But you know I can't say nodiscussion because the one thing
she did say is Jeff, you mightwant to cut back on your alcohol
consumption, which was true.
I'll give her that that wasdefinitely something I needed to
do back then, but I didn'tlisten.
But it certainly wasn't thenumber one, you know, cause of
all of my issues.
And the pharmaceuticals, theNSAIDs and the antibiotics
(05:54):
certainly were not the answerfor sure.
And I mean, if thosemedications didn't get results
after three to six months ormaximum 12 months, then she
should have changed it up.
She should have done somethingdifferent.
But here's what nobody told methat these medications were
wrecking my mitochondria.
(06:14):
You might be wondering howmedications were actually
wrecking my health, thesenon-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs and antibiotics.
So let's break that down.
The NSAIDs and mitochondrialdamage.
Nsaids like ibuprofen, naproxenthose are in the NSAID category
(06:35):
.
They damage your gut lining andwhen the gut lining gets
damaged, that triggersinflammation.
Now they also overwork yourliver and that makes
detoxification even moredifficult for the liver to do.
And then they disruptmitochondria.
They shut down energyproduction.
Now let's talk about theantibiotics.
(06:55):
These are the hiddenmitochondrial killers, and what
most people don't realize isthat the mitochondria are
actually ancient bacteria thatevolved to power our cells.
That's right.
So when we take antibiotics, they don't just wipe out the bad
guys, the bad bacteria, theviral infections, they also harm
(07:17):
our own mitochondria and thiscan lead to things like chronic
fatigue, brain fog and pain.
That is mitochondrialdysfunction.
How about a weaker immunesystem?
You know I said that I got sickmore often and I stayed sick
longer.
That's gut bacteria destructionand then mood issues that I
dealt with the anxiety, thedepression not so much the
(07:41):
anxiety, but the depression wasa was a major deal for me back
throughout that, those twodecades for sure.
And that's got.
That's the gut brain connection, so very, very, very important.
And I was, like I said, I wasstuck in this cycle, I was
suppressing symptoms instead ofsolving the problem.
(08:01):
And if you've been there too, well, first of all, if you've
been there too, drop a message.
In the show notes.
There's a send us a messagefeature and if you want me to
respond to you, I mean I cancertainly read your question on
the next future podcast episode,or even do a podcast episode on
your comments, but if you wantme to respond to you in that
send us a message feature, justyou know, drop a way for me to
(08:24):
get back in touch with you, because it doesn't.
That message feature doesn'tcollect that data and I'd love
to listen to your story, Ireally would.
And I want you to know twothings One, it's not your fault,
but two, it is yourresponsibility to take control.
And let me ask you something Areyou being responsible with your
(08:45):
health?
That's foundational.
Owning your own responsibilityis foundational, especially when
it comes to health.
I mean you need to beresponsible, for you know your
family, your business, your life, your finances, your career,
all those things.
But you know, if you don't haveyour health, what do you have?
So are you being responsiblewith your health?
(09:06):
So let's get into a mitochondriaoptimization action plan and
naturally you want to know howdo we restore and optimize our
mitochondria for energy and forlongevity?
So first I want to give adisclaimer that I'm not a
medical doctor.
I don't provide medical advice.
I don't claim to treat, diagnose or cure any diseases,
(09:27):
but what we do is we get to theroot cause of the problem.
And how do I know?
Because I've been there andI've done it and I fixed the
problem and I went back toschool to get this education so
that I could help other peopledo the same thing.
So here is your four-stepaction plan to fix mitochondrial
dysfunction and unlockboundless energy.
So, number one save yourselftime and money by testing Using
(09:49):
advanced at-home functionalhealth tests.
And I'm sure you knew I wasgoing to go there first, because
that's really the number one.
Step is running a couple ofat-home functional lab tests to
be able to pinpoint thoseunderlying root causes of what's
going on and you don't have todo the full gamut Like, yes, if
you could do five lab tests, that would be amazing.
You can find those five labtests over on our shop page at
(10:12):
Love Energy Wellness.
But there are also two labtests that you could do
specifically for energy issueswhen we're talking about
mitochondria, and one is thehair tissue mineral analysis.
It's also known as the mineralsand metals test.
This is nothing new.
This has been around since the1970s or maybe even earlier.
And then another one is calledthe organic acids test.
(10:33):
We call that the candidametabolic and vitamins test, and
this, the minerals and metalstest, is a simple hair sample
about the size of a teaspoon ofhair for a sample, and then the
organic acids test is a urinesample.
So we bundle these two labtests together in something a
package that's called thevitamin tox test.
(10:55):
So we're looking at not justminerals and heavy metals, but
we're also looking at vitamins.
We're looking at gut function, yeast bacterial, fungal
overgrowth, we're looking atmitochondrial function which is
the point of today's podcast andso many more markers just in
these two lab tests.
So by far the best combinationthat money can buy.
It's really not that expensive.
(11:16):
It's really not.
And if you enroll in one of ourhealth coaching programs, then
you actually get those two labtests as part of the program.
You're basically getting themfor zero cost when you enroll in
a program with us.
So that's step number one.
Number two fuel yourmitochondria with the right
(11:38):
nutrients.
So your mitochondria thrive onclean water.
Well, our bodies thrive onclean water, clean air, clean
food, but our bodies are mostlybacteria.
I mentioned that ourmitochondria are ancient
bacteria, so they it makes sensethat they thrive on clean water
and clean whole food.
Nutrition and targetedsupplementation.
(11:59):
Yes, it's not all about justtaking supplements.
It's a synergy andsupplementation is part of that.
So you want to increase healthyfats.
Fats are not the enemy.
Fats won't make you fat.
We're talking aboutmitochondria.
Love ketones from sources likeavocados, high quality olive oil
, fatty fish like wild salmon,or even coconut oil is great too
(12:23):
.
We want to boost keymicronutrients, things like
magnesium, and you need to knowthe right type of magnesium and
the right ratio of magnesium.
Other things like coenzyme Q10,very, very important for
mitochondrial micronutrients,especially activated B vitamins.
B vitamins give you energy andmitochondria are the energy
(12:44):
producers.
So it just makes sense thatthey would thrive on that type
of fuel for energy production.
Now we also want to supportcellular detoxification.
So sulfur-rich foods likegarlic and onion are sulfur-rich
, but they're not my first go-to.
I'd really like to go tocruciferous vegetables first,
but garlic and onion if and thisis the reason why you want to
(13:05):
run that organic acids test tosee if you have an overgrowth of
gut bacteria, because garlicand onions are great prebiotics
and they will feed the alreadyovergrown gut bacteria and
bloating you might want to cutthose out and go along a
different line with cruciferousvegetables to help eliminate
(13:29):
mitochondrial toxins.
Now number three you want toeliminate hidden mitochondrial
stressors.
Most people don't know thatthey're sabotaging their own
energy.
You want to cut outinflammatory foods, processed
carbs, energy.
You want to cut outinflammatory foods, processed
carbs, seed oils, excess sugar.
They drain mitochondrialfunction.
(13:49):
You want to reduce alcoholintake or cut it out completely
if you can.
You know, honestly, there'splenty of data that goes against
that.
You know.
One to two drinks per day, orone drink a day for women in one
to two drinks per day per month, like, throw that out the
window.
Alcohol is a poison.
(14:10):
It honestly is.
Yes, you might get somepolyphenols from the red wine
and other things like that, butit disrupts cellular metabolism
and it increases oxidativestress and it increases heart
rate variability.
Like you can see the data, it'snot that hard to see that one
or two drinks will disrupt yoursleep for that night if you're
tracking sleep, because yourheart rate variability is
through the roof.
So you also want to lower toxicload, so environmental toxins.
(14:33):
They overwhelm yourmitochondria.
So you want to try perhaps afunctional medicine detox to be
able to clear that out.
Clear that out and if you wantto learn more about that,
loveenergywellnesscom.
Slash transform is ourfunctional medicine detox page.
You can learn all about thatover there.
And then, last but not least, you want to master mitochondrial
(14:55):
recovery and regeneration.
Mitochondria need rest, theyneed movement and you might be
surprised here they need lightexplosions, light exposure.
So you want to prioritizethings like deep sleep, growth
hormone and melatonin repairmitochondria overnight and sleep
helps to produce that.
(15:15):
And if you need help, yes, youcan take a little bit of liquid
melatonin micronized liquidmelatonin before bed.
I have a great podcast on thebenefits of melatonin for
longevity.
We also have a podcast ongrowth hormone.
You can go to our podcast pageand just type in the search box
to listen to those.
You want to move every day.
You want to move that body.
Exercise stimulatesmitochondrial biogenesis, your
(15:39):
body's ability to make moremitochondria.
And if you're not moving, yourmitochondria are going to die
through apoptosis, programmedcellular death, right.
The cells are going to die.
The mitochondria are in thecells and if you're not doing
things to create that biogenesis, that ability to make more
mitochondria through exercise, then you're going to lose energy
(16:01):
because you're losing yourmitochondria.
And then next, sunlight and coldexposure.
So morning sunlight and, forthat matter, watching sunsets as
well, but getting that morningsunlight is super important to
build that mitochondria up forthe day and for your life.
And then cold therapy actuallyactivates mitochondrial function
.
Now you don't have to gospending thousands of dollars on
(16:22):
a cold immersion system, like Iwould love to have in my home.
I just don't have it yet.
But you can simply do coldtherapy in the shower At the end
of your hot shower, turn thewater down as low as it'll go,
for as long as you can stand it,and then, if you need to, you
can do contrast and thencontrast that cold with warm, so
you're not getting out with achill, but that's a great way to
(16:42):
begin cold therapy.
Now, sauna is another great wayto do that and create those
heat shock proteins which willregenerate your mitochondria.
So you can check out the saunaon our resource page over at
Love Energy Wellness, the saunathat I recommend and that I have
personally.
So I just want to clarify thisisn't a quick fix.
It's a long-term strategy forenergy, for longevity and for
(17:06):
vibrant health.
And, of course, if you'refeeling stuck in exhaustion,
brain fog, chronic illness, youdon't have to figure this one
out alone.
I created the Optimize programto help you to break free from
things like fatigue and brainfog and to reclaim your vitality
.
It includes at-home functionallab testing, so no more guessing
(17:27):
what's wrong.
It includes mitochondrial andgut health protocols to fix
these root causes and, of course, the one-on-one coaching for
accountability, so that you stayon track.
And then you know, as always,I'm offering complimentary
health consultations so we canmap out a personalized plan for
you.
Just go toloveenergywellnesscom slash

It's really that easy, myfriends.
So you know, I just want to wrapup here by saying that your
future.
It starts today.
You don't have to acceptfatigue as normal.
It's not part of aging.
You don't have to live insurvival mode and you don't have
to go through this alone.
The choice is yours and itstarts right now.
