I'm your host and personalintegrative health practitioner,
jeffrey Mort, and fellowentrepreneur on the path of
aligned living, and today we'redoing something a little
different.
We're doing a mini masterclasson one of the most talked about

topics in health world right nowtalking about glp-1, weight
loss medications and, moreimportantly, how you can safely
and naturally support your ownbody's fat burning, appetite
balancing mechanisms, withoutbecoming dependent on synthetic

drugs.
Because here's the truth whatwe're really after isn't just
weight loss, it's freedomFreedom from food noise, freedom
from metabolic chaos, freedomto feel good in your own skin
while building your mission andliving your life.
So let's unpack this, shall we?

(01:44):
So what is GLP-1 and why iseveryone talking about it?
Well, glp-1 stands forglucagon-like peptide 1, and
it's a hormone that your bodynaturally produces in the gut
after eating, and it does a fewreally cool things.

(02:05):
So let's break this down it.
Number one helps to regulateblood sugar, super, super
important for overall health,not just weight loss.
It also tells your brain I'mfull now.
You might be thinking well, Ithought that was up to uh, the
hormone leptin.
Well, it does have something todo with that as well.
And then number three it slowsgastric emptying, which is super

important, but not to beoverdone.
We're gonna, we're gonna divedeep into that one afterwards.
And then it also glp-1 alsosupports insulin sensitivity.
So super, super important forregulating blood sugar as well.
So think of it as your built-inappetite and blood sugar

(02:53):
whisperer.
Now the pharmaceutical industrycaught on to this and they
developed GLP-1 agonists likeOzempic and Wegavy and Monjoruro
and there are other ones aswell which mimic this hormone
and essentially turn up thevolume on satiety and insulin

(03:19):
regulation.
So they were originally createdfor type 2 diabetics, but now
they're being prescribed offlabel for weight loss and, yes,
they do work in that area andmany people are shedding pounds
fast sometimes, sometimes toofast.
And I will say I'm not againstthese medications.

(03:40):
There is a time and a place forit.
But, much like so many of theother medications on the market
today, they catch on likewildfire and they are being
handed out like Pez candies,unfortunately, and so I want to
talk about a deeper issue here.

(04:03):
Here's the problem.
Want to talk about a deeperissue here?
Here's the problem thesemedications, they're not magic
wands.
They're synthetic hormones andwhile they can help with
short-term weight loss, theycome with risks, especially if
you're not also changing yourlifestyle.
So you know, if somebody weighs400 pounds, 500 pounds, and

they need to lose 100 poundsrapidly so that they can do some
workouts, they can do someexercises, they can make some
lifestyle changes, you know theycan actually leave the house.
That might be a time and aplace for that person.
But we're going to talk aboutthe risks that come with
long-term use of these GLP-1medications.

(04:47):
So common side effects arenausea, vomiting, fatigue,
muscle loss, bone loss,constipation, gallbladder issues
and so much more.
Now let's talk.
Talk about, let's break thatdown just a little bit.
If you're taking a medicationand you're getting nauseous or

(05:08):
you're vomiting or you'refeeling fatigue, that's your
body talking to you, telling youthat what you're putting into
it is not acceptable.
The body's not adapting, notaccepting to that.
Especially if there's vomiting,like that is a key sign that
there there's something wrong,like the body is rejecting that

(05:29):
fatigue.
That is your mitochondria, yourenergy cell, your.
The powerhouse is in your cellsproducing energy or, in this
case, not producing energy.
If a medication is making youexhausted and tired, then you
know it's costing you yourenergy.
Your body is using its energyto be able to uh, to combat that
the muscle and bone loss.
We're going to talk a littlebit about that in just a minute.

(05:52):
And so, what's more?
Many users regain weight afterstopping the drug because they
haven't fixed the underlyingissues, things like blood sugar
dysregulation, systemicinflammation, poor sleep,
mineral imbalances.
And here's something thatnobody's saying loudly enough

(06:13):
GLP-1 drugs can suppress musclemass.
So if you're not doing strengthtraining or consuming enough
protein, it's going to suppressmuscle mass.
They can also affect yourthyroid, your adrenals and your
gut if not monitored properlyand you know most of these are

(06:35):
not that they're prescribed andthey're not monitored monitored
properly and then they don'twork long, long term.
These, these medications arenot a sustainable weight loss
program.
If your nervous system anddetox pathways are clogged,
you're going to have some issuessooner than later on these

(06:57):
GLP-1 medications.
So unless you're tackling theroot causes, it becomes another
cycle of symptom management,palliating the symptoms and not
true healing.
So maybe you know someone whocan relate to this common
scenario, because this is whatwe see in practice so often, and
this illustrates what oftenhappens with GLP-1 agonist

(07:19):
medications like Ozempic andWegavie, and Monjaro and others,
when used without a supportiveplan.
So I'll change the name hereLisa.
She's a 47-year-old entrepreneurjuggling her own business, her
teenage kids.
Year old entrepreneur jugglingher own business, her teenage

(07:40):
kids, and she's trying toreclaim her energy after years
of putting herself last.
So, after struggling to loseweight for what felt like
forever, her doctor prescribes aglp-1 medication and at first
it feels like a miracle.
Her appetite plummets, thescale drops fast, she's feeling
happier, she's feeling lighterand within five months she's
down nearly 30 percent of herbody weight.

(08:00):
Like that is absolutely amazing.
But here's what nobody warnedher about.
Much of the weight loss isn'tjust fat.
She's also losing lean muscle.
She's also losing bone density,which affects her metabolism
and long-term health.
Now, on top of that, herdigestion slows to absolute

(08:23):
crawl.
She starts experiencing severeconstipation.
We're talking days without abowel movement, sometimes almost
a week, feeling bloated andnauseous.
And that's because the stool isactually backing up and causing
toxicity in the body and that'sbecause the stool is actually
backing up and causing toxicityin the body.
And that's because GLP-1medications delay gastric
emptying and for many peoplethat leads to gut motility

(08:47):
issues.
That means slowing bowelmovements and then, as I alluded
to that, toxin buildup and evenbacterial overgrowth.
Now you know, our stool that weexcrete is mostly bacteria that
needs to leave the body and sowhen that is backed up inside
the intestines, that is leachingtoxins back into the body.

(09:07):
And then she starts feelingworse, not better.
She starts feeling sluggish,she's more moody than before,
she's got brain fog and superuncomfortable once again in her
body.
So she stops the medications.
Now here's where other problemsstart.
Within a few months all of theweight comes back, but this time

(09:29):
it's not lean tissue, it's allfat.
She didn't gain the muscle back, she didn't gain the bone loss
back.
Her metabolism, alreadydownregulated from the muscle
loss, just can't keep up.
And now Lisa is not just backwhere she started, she's worse
off because her muscle mass islower, her metabolism is lower,

(09:52):
her digestion is still off andher frustration now is higher
than ever.
Now the story isn't rare, it'scommon.
We see it in practice so often.
Over the last, I would say 18months to to two uh, two years
probably.
And it's exactly why we believein a better integrative
approach, one that supportsnatural glp-1 activation, one

that protects your muscle,protects, protects your
metabolism, protects yourhormones, and one that helps you
build sustainable habits, notdependency, like what is the

Well, we should probably have aconversation.
So I want to give you some goodnews here.
There's a new path a naturalglp1 activation.
Now, I said your art, your bodyalready knows how to increase

We just need to give it theright inputs.

We need to set it up with theright environment, and here's a
few ways to naturally supportGLP-1 activation in the body.
We want protein and fiber richmeals.
These, meaning proteins andfibers, fibrous foods stimulate
GLP-1 and keep you fuller forlonger.

Now intermittent fasting isanother key component.
So this is doing less better.
Intermittent fasting helps toregulate insulin and supports
appetite hormones.

is, you know they're hoping toget on a medication where they

just need to pop a pill and notdo anything differently.
And you know, for those peoplemaybe that GLP-1 medication is
the right move for a certainduration, but nine times out of
ten if they're not moving theirbody, if they're not building
that muscle back, they are not,they're not on a sustainable

plan.
I'll just leave it at that.
So strength training actuallynaturally supports GLP-1
activation, as does coldexposure.
We want to supportmitochondrial health and that
GLP-1 signaling.
And then here's one of thefoundational pieces of any
health plan is sleep and stressmanagement.
Why?
