Speaker 1 (00:06):
Hello everybody,
welcome back to Brutally Made,
pretty excited about being back.
I had a little bit of a pauseafter the last recording with
Tom Delamater because the shopwas super busy with all kinds of
events and activities.
The shop was super busy withall kinds of events and
(00:29):
activities, so today I'm goingto take a moment to draw a
little fall image and doodlethat.
While I chat about everythinggoing on and what's coming up,
let's see.
I am getting ready to go to ArtBiz Jam.
This is going to be my secondconvention with them and I'm
pretty excited I get to shareaugmented reality and kind of
(00:51):
show how to do that with peopleattending.
Getting to meet with somecorporations, getting to see
Evergreen they make beautifuloutdoor oh my gosh decor and
garden flags and all kinds ofthings like that.
And I'm super excited aboutmeeting up with some friends
(01:12):
that I made at the last one and, just you know, getting to do
all the art things for a fewdays.
I may have someone watching thestore I haven't got
confirmation on that yet butthat may have to close for a
couple of days, but that's justkind of decision I have to make
when I am the only one runningthe show.
(01:33):
Oh goodness, this weekend I getto paint pumpkins with the
community at another 720 MarketsCreative Camp and I'm super
excited about that.
Art just fuels me.
People are like your energylevel is so high.
I know that I am just I can'tjust explain it Over the moon,
(01:57):
just fueled by being creativeand getting to create and moving
this as my like, full-time gig.
It's just, I can't explain it,I'm just every opportunity that
I can take and make at work I'mtrying to do and it's just
(02:18):
terrific and I am embracingeverything, every challenge.
Ac was one and now that isworking finally, oh my gosh, I
am so grateful, grateful, grateful that I finally have air
conditioning at the shop.
People that have attended theclasses have been so kind
letting me run fans and havingthe doors open and just getting
(02:42):
through the heat.
It's been a very warm fall anda very hot summer and I created
every mural and paintedeverything for cleaning crews
cleaned in the heat, people wereworking in the heat and it is
finally working and I'm supergrateful that I have that.
I also have a lighted sign.
(03:03):
It absolutely stunning.
It is so pretty, so colorful, colorful.
I love it so, so much.
I have cried over it because, for one, it was the biggest
expense that I've had for theshop and it is just.
It's so surreal seeing yourwork and your logo lit up and
(03:28):
like that's me, that's my shop, that's my store, that's the
studio.
I get to share the space withthe community.
People recognize that crazylooking handwriting and like
that's Grudifly and they'rewalking in, going.
I follow you on Facebook, Ifollow you on social media and
it's like really, it's so coolto meet you in person.
(03:49):
Oh, my goodness, it's justterrific.
I love having this positivelocation to just embrace
everybody's creativity, andthat's what I've wanted.
I've wanted to have this spotto say come on in, sit down, do
something mindful with yourhands and your mind.
You know get it off of anythingnegative, take the negativity
(04:13):
out in a brushstroke.
Or you know gluing somethingtogether, making something,
learning something, beingcreative, spending time together
all of the above, you knowfinding something beautiful to
bring into your home.
The new exhibiting artist isBobby Pickens and I'm going to
have her on the podcast, veryexcited about that.
(04:35):
Her reception is Saturday, sowe'll get to celebrate her from
five to seven, but her art is sofun, it makes you smile, it's
like folk art based and justvery loose and colorful
brushstrokes and people like, oh, it stops you in your tracks to
(04:56):
take a look at it.
And it was so different fromTom's, which I love too.
The abstract looking art thathe had was just so freeing, and
those colors.
So I just love, you know, getting to showcase these
different artists to thecommunity because it makes
people stop and like, oh, I wantto talk about that, I want to
(05:17):
look at it, I want to take amoment and you know, see, how I
feel about this.
That's what art is all aboutand I love it.
I love having this space to doit, and I can't reiterate enough
how just my philosophy on howI'm running my gallery and how I
want that money to go back 100%to the artist.
I know that that's kind ofmind-boggling to some people,
(05:40):
but I feel like I have way moreother ways for me to sustain the
business than taking it fromthem.
So I'm going to do that.
That has been on my heart fromthe very, very beginning and I
can't explain that enough.
That is what one of myphilosophies making my business
plan, what I wanted to do toshowcase those artists, show
(06:02):
their work, those big pieces ofcanvas or those sculptures or
whatever they're doing.
Their heart and soul was inthat their money's invested in
that.
That goes back to them.
So that's just one of the littlethings that I can do to give
back to the art community andI'm going to do it.
You know, it's no differentthan me taking the time to
(06:23):
create a piece of art for aorganization, a nonprofit
organization, so they can, youknow, sustain their work and me
donating that.
That's no different to me.
I'm giving this back to theartists.
It's something that I can do.
I've got this space, I've gotthis wall it's not like you know
it and it's an opportunity forthe community to get educated on
(06:47):
that process, that art.
They could take a class.
You know the classes.
They're making money from theclasses and so it's my space.
I get a little bit for havingthose classes.
So that's there.
I just I feel like that's what Ican do, to give back and I'm
just not changing that.
So that's very close to myheart to do that, to have that
(07:08):
space to do that.
So I am super excited abouthaving that offer out into the
community and it's getting out.
I have artists scheduled allthe way till June and that's so
cool.
Oh, my goodness, very cool.
I've had great gosh advertisingand just, you know, news posts
(07:32):
from Salute Magazine and theCanton Repository and Bold
Journey and just people sharingwhat the space is doing, on the
radio and during Mural Fest andgetting to share, you know,
painting faces and handing outflyers about the business, all
of those things I got to sharewhat the store and the studio
(07:56):
and the space is like and thatmeant that means so much to me.
So I love having thoseopportunities to do that and I
think the more that you do thatkind of sharing and put that
information out there, it comesback to you and it's like you
know, the best advertising isword of mouth and you know this
(08:17):
is a community-based thing andit's wonderful to see that it's,
you know, getting noticed andthat the people coming in some
are still going.
Are you a brewery?
Do you have coffee?
I don't.
I mean I do have M&H.
I love them.
But you can bring yourbeverages in and sit down and do
(08:38):
a paint by number or grab acoloring book, purchase a
coloring book and some coloringutensils and just get started,
take it home and finish it, butit's a moment to sit down and
relax and enjoy it.
I love having the classes out inthe public, because people are
coming in the shop and thenthey're like watching them work
and they're like curious to howit's working and it's it's.
(09:00):
You still have the room thatyou can reserve for a private
class, but it's just really coolto see that interaction.
It just it sparks people'sinterests and gets them curious
and they watch, you know, peopledoing abstract painting.
Just the classes are phenomenal.
I love it, oh my goodness.
And then I got Aaron Van Horn, who's having this gorgeous
(09:21):
colored pencil class.
People were signing up for thatthis month.
There's so much happening.
In October we have the folk artcanvas class, we have a
bracelet class.
Both of those are Bobby'sclasses.
Aaron's teaching this gorgeouscolor pencil class.
I have never been taught how tocolor and draw with color
pencil, so I'm actually takingit too because I'm super excited
(09:43):
about that.
His drawings are just gorgeous,so he's graciously, you know,
teaching that class.
We have another bonsai classcoming up, and I know that it is
during a lot of trick or treattimes in the community.
We personally don't get anytrick or treaters, so you know,
other trick or treats aredifferent days and I'm happy to
(10:07):
have it on that Sunday.
So there's that class that'scoming up again, and I have the
cutest little mini Halloweenthings that you can add to your
bonsai tree.
Let's see what other classes dowe have coming up in October.
The spooky book class is comingup tonight, so that is a class
that we're having and I stillhave materials so if someone
(10:30):
pops in they can join.
But learning about dioramas andlearning about perspective and
scale, so that's going to be areally cute little class tonight
.
Then we're going to have aKandinsky month, so that's
already started and six lessonslearning about you know the
colors and line and movement ofthat artist, and so that is a
(10:53):
really cool series to help teachthose lessons.
So that is this month.
There is Truck or Treat andthere's a Beer Crawl and there's
a Mystic Night the 26th and23rd of October.
Those are happening.
I have a mending class, so it'sall about the art of mending and
having ways to recycle andupcycle your clothing, and so
(11:18):
that is a class because we havea whole lost art series
happening and I have moreclasses to add.
I love that you can pop inright now and if you want to
make some knit pumpkins on oneof the knitting machines, boom,
absolutely can do that.
Or if you would like to justmindfully sit and do a little
mandala rock, a painted rock, Ihave all the dot utensils and
(11:41):
paint.
You can just, you know, paintone of those.
It is Mental Health AwarenessMonth and art is so good for
your mental health, so sit downand just take a few hours to do
something like that.
That's available to pop in.
I also have all the boo bucketsthe little mini boo buckets oh
my goodness, those have beensuper popular.
So you can fill them with fivelittle mini pieces of candy or
(12:04):
food and you can make anornament or a necklace out of
one.
And those have been fun.
Just all kinds of Halloween andfall fun at the shop, plus all
of the canvases that we areprinting or painting.
Those are still happening.
I have more to add.
I just I can't get enough ofbeing creative and I love
(12:25):
sharing it with the community,so I hope that this gets your
mind spinning in ways to youknow, fuel your passions through
sharing and teaching andcreating a space to learn and
making it fun for everybody, because everyone can learn
something new, and I can't waitto show you some of the new
(12:46):
stuff that I have coming intothe store supporting some small,
small businesses, not onlylocally but through the state of
Ohio.
So I have some new piecescoming in very soon and I'm
excited to share those.
So just a little update onwhat's going on at the shop.
Join my newsletter.
I always put everybody whosubscribes to the newsletter in
(13:09):
a drawing.
I always put everybody whosubscribes to the newsletter in
a drawing and every monthsomebody will win something that
I'm either doing or giving aclass on or the materials to
make it yourself.
If you're not local, so yeah, just go to Brutallycom
newsletters and then you justfill out this like three box
form and you'll get onenewsletter a month.
No, I don't spam you, but atleast you're up to date on
(13:31):
what's going on.
So yeah, I'd love to have youjoin.
So I hope you like this quicklittle creation for fall.
I love wheelbarrows and I lovemums and pumpkins, so that was
the inspiration for this.
So I may put this in the plainlittle art shack.
I've been making some littleart.
(13:52):
Brian's been making some too.
He makes a scary one.
He did a it Pennywise.
But anyway, plain little artshack is the flag, the free
little art gallery at Brutiflywhich has got a lot of activity
lately.
So thanks for joining me.

October.
But stay brutally made andthank you so much for supporting
(14:17):
my dreams because you'refueling the fire.
