Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hi everyone, welcome to Brother, sister.
Whatever, I'm Lisa.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
And I'm Josh.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
And this is Real Talk with Zero Chill.
Alright, so let's get into it.
So this episode is about whatit means to love something
loudly, and how fandom becomeslike a weird little home for
your feelings.
Hmm.
Which is true if you think aboutit, if I think about it like.
I think about it like, let'ssay, taylor Swift, huge fan, not

(00:27):
a Swifty, because I equateSwifties with, like you know,
looking for Easter eggs andknowing all the details and all
that stuff.
I love her music, know a lot ofthe words to most of her songs,
so can I be like a semi-Swiftyyou?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
can be whatever you want.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
I'll call myself a semi-Swifty, okay, but I
recognize, like you know, likewith a lot of songs, actually,
you can feel like you can relatein many ways to the things that
she's singing, right, orwhatever.
For you it could be Eminem, orwhatever, Okay, and so I feel

(01:08):
like, for myself, music reallydoes that, all different genres,
right, really does that for me,as opposed to, let's say, a TV
show.
I wouldn't necessarily, youknow, know, like it says here,
like have feelings, would I?
Would I, though, hold on, let'sthink about this, josh, welcome

(01:32):
everybody to brother, sister,whatever.
I'm Lisa.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
I'm Josh.
Well, I think that, like youjust said, for you music, music
hits.
Something, hits a chord.
For sure, and I'm sure I mean, have you, have you not had this
feeling?
I've had this feeling whereyou're watching a movie and
something hero-like happens andyou feel like this, almost like

(02:00):
like yeah you know, like youknow like that's true.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Or even just crying at a scene, right, it's like
something like emotes somethingout of you.
So yeah, okay, I shouldn't, Ishouldn't say it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
So I think that that might touch certain people, like
I think this is why my sonabsolutely loves anime, because
a lot of the anime, the stock, Imean there's a lot of the anime
.
The style, I mean there's a lotof different styles, but the
style that he's watching is likeit's always an underdog and
it's always someone who wants tobe the hero and can't be right

(02:36):
now or whatever, and they haveto struggle and fight and and
and get to that point, you know.
And so for him I can tell thatyou know it's it resonates yeah.
It resonates and like he, he'slike oh you know, like he got to
that level, you know, like, look at him, you know, and, and

(02:58):
so you know, I could see himwanting to dress up or act out
that type of behavior, to feelthat sense of strength.
That's true.
I could relate to some ways inDragon Ball Z, like Goku, when I

(03:19):
was a kid, and he would getbeaten up.
And no matter how much he gotbeaten up, you know he would
scream and, and you know, justget more energy.
You know to to keep battlingthrough that, you know.
So there's something about thattype of stuff and I think the
cosplayers sure, maybe it's justdress up for some, but I think

(03:42):
too that some it's way deeper.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
You know, it's like, it's like a connection yeah,
this person makes me feel likethis, and when I dress up like
them, I feel invincible yeah, yeah dressing up as spider-man
but also like, even if you wereto just look at it from a
standpoint because I'm surethere are a lot of people out
there that are like, look downat that kind of thing oh yeah

(04:05):
like what if you just looked atit from a point, because I'm
sure there are a lot of peopleout there that are like, look
down at that kind of thing.
Oh yeah, I'm sure Like what, ifyou just looked at it from a
point of view of it's actuallyharmless fun yeah, dressing up
like your hero, or whatever thecase and why it also promotes.

(04:27):
Maybe creativity andimagination.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, of course, yeah for sure.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Like a lot of these, like these serious cosplayers
I've seen actually uh videosthat they make their own
costumes.
They are like they work likefor weeks, sometimes months on,
like a costume to be able tolike.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Some of them are out of this world.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Unbelievable.
So I have to say it's almost ina way, like a business.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Oh yeah, Look at me, I'm business minded.
It's definitely a business,though.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah, it has to be.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
There's no question about it.
It, I mean you can get allsorts of you know made costumes,
or a gun or a sword.
That's a certain way, and youknow you modify the details, but
everything yeah crazy it's likereal life models in the sense

(05:19):
of like a model you know thatyou build together.
It's a real life model yeah soyeah, exactly okay.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
So weekly what if?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
weekly what if?

Speaker 1 (05:31):
what if a fandom formed around you?
So there's a fan art of you,fan fiction.
You know someone's shipping youwith your barista.
Another person has a theorythat your most recent Instagram
story proves you're in aredemption arc.
That's hilarious actually.

(05:52):
So what?
How would you handle that kindof attention?

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Like in the sense of like, I'm a celebrity, basically
.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, like you have fans, like legit fans.
How would you handle that?
And on a more fun spin, what?

Speaker 2 (06:12):
would your fandom be called?
I have no idea.
I have no idea what they wouldbe called.
I'm not that artistic, but Ican tell you this I think I
would be If I, if if I had thesefans and they were like oh my
gosh, we love you and so-and-somovies, or whatever, I think I

(06:34):
would be that guy.
You know that that makes sure Istop to every.
I know it'll be.
You know a lot, but stops andtakes the time to.
You know, have every, becausesome people you know a lot but
stops and takes the time to.
You know, have every becausesome people you know they
they're so, you know, infatuatedwith that and it's like it.
All it takes is just you knowone second for that celebrity to

(06:57):
be like hi, you know, orwhatever, and it's like oh, you
know, it makes their day.
And you know, you see it all thetime.
You know I, I get it.
They get picked and proddednon-stop, you know so I can't
relate, but but you know, I, Ifeel like you know there are
some celebrities out there thatare a little bit more like

(07:19):
conscious of that and so theykind of give, give, give yeah
you know, like the rock DwayneJohnson, I mean, you know
they're doing tourist bus andhe'll come with his car and park
in front of the tourists andwave and sign.
You know, like there's justsomething about that see, I
think, I think it has my.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
My perception of it is that it's the level of
gratitude.
Yeah.
When, like taking DwayneJohnson as an example, he it's
well known, he started fromnothing, yeah Right, and even
going into WrestleManiaWrestleMania, sorry, wrestling

(08:01):
yeah at WrestleMania sorry, wrestling, yeah, uh, he he like
the fans are what build you up,right?
Yeah.
So, in essence, the idea thatyou are nothing without your
fans is true.
Yeah it is so the he started, like I think he.

(08:23):
He started in wrestling.
I don't think he was doinganything before that.
Once he was in wrestling andkind of built up his, then he
went into movies and stuff likethat.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
He was in pro football until he uh.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Right Until he got injured or something.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Well then he got cut.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Oh, okay, he got cut.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
And then, uh, you know life, dream, life was over
Right or like speaking ofwrestling, look at the John Cena
.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Same thing, right.
The fans are what?
And his philosophy is also thesame thing, right.
You always see him signing forfans and taking pictures and
stuff like that Flip side.
You have some actors, maybemusicians too, that are the

(09:07):
opposite.
It's like I'm not on the clock,so to speak, right now right
how dare you come to my tablewhere I'm eating with my kids
and now I get it?
Yeah, because there are manyfans and many people out there
that take it way too farsometimes.

(09:28):
For sure.
I get it.
I personally, like I've seensomebody, like a famous person
having dinner with friends and Ijust I'm just like so
starstruck that I'm just like,oh my God.
Like you know, like from theside and I never.
I never approached him, abecause I'm just too like my God

(09:53):
, but also because I'm awarethat he's he's there with.
You know what I mean.
Yeah.
I don't know it's such adouble-edged sword.
I can see both sides.
I can see both sides from theirangle and I can also see both
sides from the fans angle.
It's true, you know so I don'tknow it's, it's, but it's

(10:13):
interesting it's.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
It's just interesting that whole like world you know
yeah, so I think that's how Iwould technically handle the
attention okay you know and, inthat regard, um would you, would
they get it right or completelymiss who you are?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I think.
Look at Taylor Swift.
I think the amount ofdissection in her life, the
Easter eggs and this and thatCould they get it wrong.
Do they always get it right?
Come on, there's got to besomething that could get wrong
you know what I mean.
I think there's a lot morewrong than right in a's what I'm

(10:50):
saying a lot of the celebrityworld, exactly, you know,
exactly I mean look at like tmzand you know like god and like
what are they?
What are they saying?
Like, is anything said that'struthful?
yeah or is it all just a moneygrab to like sell, fucking?

Speaker 2 (11:07):
yeah, and some of the celebrities get so ticked off,
like with tmz, oh my gosh, because those guys are.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
See the justin bieber one recently that you know him,
I I really feel bad for him,you know, because he, he just is
getting like I mean, imagine, starting out, like we know,
because we've talked about thisin the past, that your brain
really only is fully developedin your fucking 20s, early 20s,
right yeah, this kid started at12.

(11:34):
I know.
Okay, growing up in this fuckingnonsense and when you know I
think about I'm kind of jumpingall over the place but I think
about sometimes, about like, oh,you know, like I'd love to do
like a podcast with the kids orlike, or you know, to be like
one of those like YouTubefamilies that, like you know,
goes around recording their daysand stuff.

(11:55):
Do I, let's say, you hit thatlevel of of where you're getting
paid and you're gettingmillions of views on your, on
your thing?
Do you want, really want, to beinto that kind of a fucking
scrutiny every day?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Well, you know, there was actually, I think,
something on Netflix.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Yes, kid fluencing.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
There's been a couple of different and, like the
parents almost have to treattheir kids like employees at
that point.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Yeah, it's pretty bad .
It's pretty bad.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
But you've heard, like the Ruby Frankie story,
right?
Yeah.
And stuff like that.
Anyways, I'm going totally offtopic, but it just kind of lets
you remind you of like, or makesyou think about, what you would
be willing to go through forthat level of fame and money,
and is it even really worth it?
I don't know about that I know,part of me is like I think I'll

(12:46):
just stay in my nook and have mycoffee and do my little art
with my kids.
Okay, so there's differentkinds of fandoms right.
There's TV.
There's movies, music, gaming.
Yeah, right, I will be veryhonest and say I know very
little about all of them, especially gaming.

(13:09):
But let's start with TV.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Are there any TV-like shows that really spark
longevity?
First thing that comes to mymind is Gilmore Girls.
Oh my gosh Right, the fans forGilmore Girls.
That show was like 20 years ago.
Yeah.
And it's coming back, friends.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Seinfeld.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Walking Dead.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Walking Dead, game of Thrones, you know.
So there's tons that havefandom, old and new.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Yeah, dead Boy Detectives I loved.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
I've never heard old and new yeah, dead boy
detectives.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I love that one.
Oh my gosh, you should know.
No, not not exactly new, new,but dead boy detectives, uh,
it's a comic okay, but they madea real movie out of it, a real
tv show out of it.
But um, if I'm not mistaken, Ihave to double check.
I hope they're renewing.
I don't know if they'rerenewing for second season.
That's sad, you know some ofthese ones did you watch?

(14:15):
uh, like, for example, chaosk-a-o-s.
Oh my gosh, it was the best.
They canceled it after thefirst season.
I really don't know why.
The actors super hot shotcelebrity actors and it was so
good.
Yeah, oh my gosh, it was thebest.

(14:36):
I loved it.
It was the most hilariousreligion-based TV show ever, I'm
telling you.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
So here's a question to you TV shows.
Are there any series thatyou've watched several times
over the years?

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
Name one.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
I can't Okay I have such a bad memory.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Take a look, stranger Things, supernatural.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
So it was the Walking Dead for sure.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
I've watched that two or three times.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
The Boys.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
You know what?
I haven't even finished thethird season.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
I haven't either, but I was into that.
Oh, Breaking Bad.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
But that you've re-watched.
For me it was Supernatural.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
The one I re-watched, at least on this list, was
Avatar the Last Airbender.
Okay yeah, I loved that one.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Yeah, that was a good one.
Yeah, For me it wassupernatural.
Oh, were we watching Buffy?

Speaker 2 (15:38):
No way.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel in sequence,
like we're going back and forth.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, because we wanted Rileyto experience it.
That's awesome.
And Grayson's got into it now,so it's pretty good.
Yeah, so love those ones.
Clearly I have a niche.
It's like dark creepy it'sgreat, whatever.

(16:06):
What about movies?
Any movies that stick out toyou Star.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Wars.
Okay, so what do you thinkabout the fandom for Star Wars?
Well, I mean, they're hardcore.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
What's one of the things that they like?
What's their shtick?

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Well, just, you know definitely um the cosplay and
stuff.
Okay, like when they go tothese events, like some of them
are like decked out, like theylook like a real stormtrooper
really you know, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah like real stormtrooper.
Like they're they.
They go all out.
Some, like you know, they havedarth vader.
Like the, the voice even soundslike darth vader.
They have like the, thelightsaber looks real.

(16:54):
Oh yeah, they go so do they.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
So they, they must be like really super in depth with
every single movie, like maybeinconsistencies they'll point
out stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
I'm sure they huddle at these events and they have
group talks and they're, youknow, arguing about.
You know what chip is in thelightsaber?
Yeah.
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Shit.
For us in our house.
It's Marvel.
Marvel's a big one.
The comic books James is hugeon that.
I'm just along for the ride.
I enjoy a lot of them.
But to ask me what the comicsdid and the differences in
costumes and stuff like that,I'm like right over there, but

(17:42):
James is into that and obviouslyby default, riley is into that
and Grayson is getting into it,so that's a big thing for us.
Marvel cool I'm really intoDaredevil, is into that and
Grayson is getting into it, sothat's a big thing for us.
Marvel, cool.
Yeah, I'm really into Daredevil.
Have you started, have you?

Speaker 2 (17:55):
I didn't watch Daredevil.
I always loved the Supermansand I'd say that I was
definitely a huge fan of oh mygosh, a huge fan.
I can't even remember theirnames guardians of the galaxy.

(18:16):
Yeah, thank you love those guys, I love those guys guardians of
the galaxy.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Yeah, those are fun, those are good ones, yeah, um,
okay.
So music we've kind of touchedon that a little bit with the
Swifties.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Me, I'm very deep into, like the indie rap.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
Okay, indie rap.
Yeah, oh, geez, I was going tosay indie music or indie folk.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
No, okay, like indie rap Like just like the
underground hip hop kind of.
I like, like, just like the, theunderground hip-hop kind of I
like I the reason why is becausethey, they speak to me, because
a lot of these indianunderground, uh, rappers, they
you can actually understand them.

(19:04):
You know, it's not like youknow, like you actually
understand what they're saying, but there's also like that, that
, that that hero story.
It's always like you actuallyunderstand what they're saying,
but there's also like that herostory, it's always like you know
, I came from nothing and nowI'm here.
Yeah, you know it's all and soto not have the, even though I'm
a huge Eminem fan, but to nothave, like you know, it's Eminem

(19:27):
, right.
Like these guys that, like youknow, like they, they, they,
they, some of them, they justwant the views on their YouTube,
you know.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Like um, there's a seven years remix that I love
and again it's an indie rapperand you know, but he's got like
27 million uh views on his.
Youtube yeah, but you know, know what I mean.
So it's like things like that.
You know that's like awesome, you know like, and you know he
raps all about how all histeachers, for example, said that

(20:00):
like you would amount tonothing.
So you know, like, I likehearing those stories and a lot
of the indie rappers and theunderground, it's that they're.
They're like the underdog yeah, and they're focused on talking
about that, you know.
So that's what's cool about it,you know, versus the dilemma.
Now, like even kendrick lamar,it's like you're.

(20:21):
You're listening to nothing inmy opinion, you know, you're
just, it's good, but it's likeyou, they're.
The story is not a story, youknow, and like some of the
rappers, it's more like disstracks.
Yeah, you know, and some of therappers it's like, you know,
like, what are you saying?
You know, like, you're justlike okay, you know, like, like

(20:45):
no, I just I can't, I can't.
Well, that comedian talkedabout it and it was hilarious.
When he did it, he was likemumbling, you know, and then
says the last word, you know, and then they played the song
and everyone was laughingbecause it was literally like
that Mumble, mumble, mumble.
You hear what the last word is.
You know, he's like.
I hate that, you know, and it'strue, like I can't stand that,

(21:14):
even like like Tupac, forexample, even Notorious BIG, you
understood everything that wassaid, you know.
So, even though I'm talkingabout underground, like, these
are good representations of likeup there, but like it, like
it's the sound and the the yeahyes, that you that you name me a
song where you don't hear thelyrics of tupac, that you hear
every lyric, you hear everystory.

(21:36):
You know that he says yeah, right there isn't one where
you're like what the fuck did hesay?
You know that was so fast.
Or you know, like buster rhymes.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Like buster rhymes is great, but calm down, you know,
like it's too fast yeah youknow, yeah, so anyway, my
tangent you're a little fandomgoing out there see yeah, I
guess I have.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
I guess I have a little fandom there, music wise,
it's true, yeah oh shit allright this or that this or that
my.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Why don't you start?

Speaker 2 (22:09):
All right, so let's go.
Tv shows.
No, how about music, music, right, you want music or shows?
Which one do you want?

Speaker 1 (22:18):
You know what Give me shows.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
Okay, stranger Things or the Last of Us.
I've never seen the Last of Us,stranger Things.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
I saw season one.
Season two just came out.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (22:32):
good.
I told James.
James was like, are we going towatch the first episode?
And I was just like I'm notinvested.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
In what the Last of Us?
Yeah, I'm not invested, but wasit good, the first season it
was, it was fine.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
That's that video game, right it's just that it's
yet another fucking zombie.
Everybody's going to hurt mefor this in my house.
Nobody's going to be happy withme with this comment, but it's
yet another zombie thing.
You know what I mean.
Yet another end of the world, anyway.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
But it's representative to that game.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Yes, it's obviously about the game.
Yeah, obviously.
Yes, okay, it is veryrepresentative.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Okay, because I never played the game, but I remember
the game looking really goodand so I'm wondering what the,
what the?
But, like you know, like thewalking dead, for example I know
that's also another end of theworld thing.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
I don't know why, yeah I.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
I used to love it, but actually what ended up
happening with me is like, Ithink when we got to like season
five, or something you gonnayou're gonna read my mind right
now with the comment that you'regoing to make.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Say it.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Glenn died, and after Glenn I didn't want to watch it
anymore.
But that's not the real reason.
What I noticed after seasonfive was like my God, the same
thing keeps happening.
It's like they go into a place, there's some freaking cannibals
or there's whatever freakingcannibals or there's you know
whatever, and they fight thatand then they escape.

(23:58):
And then they move on to thenext type of thing.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
One person dies or five.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
And then you know, it repeats yes.
And I just got to the pointwhere I was like, okay, you know
.
And then Glenn died, I was like, okay, I'm out.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Yeah, yeah, no, exactly, ding ding ding.
