Have you been watching the news or following the things happening in our country?

It's a state of pure sadness for black people. Being a black person in America right now is a lot of work. You are responsible for protecting yourself from the law when it should be vice-versa.

Black mothers in America worry every time their children step out of the door. They have no idea if their children will come back to them alive. Police brutality in our country is sickening. We have seen black people get murdered by their fellow black people who hide behind the blue uniform.

Recently, we saw the murder of Tyree Nichols, and we have Jason Whitlock blaming Tyler's death on the black police female chief, and black single mothers. Jason thinks if the supervisor were male, or married Tyler would be alive today. Do you see the level of disrespect and disregard for black women?

Malcolm X once said, "The black woman is the most disrespected person in America. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman." Could we agree more?

As black women, we need to feel protected. We need to know our children will come back home safe and alive anytime they leave. We cannot forever live in fear. We are tired of teaching our children how to live when they should be living freely. Do you have an idea of all the lessons single black moms have to offer their children in case they encounter law enforcers?

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
