Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, well, it's
done.
Yeah, it's really, really real.
Took me about two hours to doeverything, maybe three hours
actually.
But one thing that was reallygreat was my wife and I had a
checklist from top to bottom, the right order of what should
be happening.
So I don't know if I'll revealeach bullet point, because there
(00:24):
was like 15 bullet points ofwhat we did, but the gist of it
was making sure that allcommunications stay bottled so
that things didn't have a chanceto get explosive.
Um, so, like the face, theprivate Facebook group for all
the members, the instructor'spage, the staff page, like the
cleaners page, like everythinggot paused and archived so that
(00:47):
someone couldn't start rantingand raving and going bonkers
about the gym.
So that was the gist of itisolating damage, because I'm
gonna assume that people aregonna go crazy about the studio
closing.
I also wanted to have all themessaging go out at the same
time so that one person didn'tget it before another.
So we use a email platform for, like, email blasts, and so I
(01:11):
had a list for key holders, alist for manager or what was it,
a list for customers, a listfor key holders and a list for,
like, vendors, and so I had likemy three email blasts all
synced up, with one person beingin only one of those three
groups and everyone gets anemail at the same time and,
(01:33):
depending on what team you're in, it's very intentional and very
coordinated.
Um, now that I think about it,kind of like company layoffs
actually, everyone gets the samemessage, everyone's been
pre-done, and like it's kind ofweird.
Like the thing that I stumbleinto like a best practice is
kind of what companies do forbest practice.
Um, so I went through, tookvideo evidence of like what I'm
(01:56):
leaving behind.
Uh, I changed the lockbox codeand asked my key holders to
return their keys to that slotas well, so I know exactly who
has access to that spot.
And if someone were to enterthe building, I have cameras set
up to record it and I am goingto be proactive and not reactive
(02:17):
on anything happening.
I also deactivated my Facebookaccount, so now if people try to
tag me or whatever, like I'mnot even identifiable, it's like
I don't, I don't exist, uh, sothat's going to be something on
on ice for a while, so I'll I'lllay low for a bit.
(02:39):
Um, and then my how, my wife sotechnically my wife was like the
business admin for a lot of ouraccounts and so she removed
everyone from the business pagesand just anyone who had an idea
of flirting with shenanigans.
And it's weird, but like I seehow much work is to do cleanup
(03:01):
instead of just preventing itfrom happening in the first
place, and it's such adistrusting way to view
something and I don't like that.
But like there's 800 members inthat group, let's pretend that
five decide to go toxic.
You now have 795 people who getrubbed the wrong way, have a
bad taste in their mouth andthey remember having a bad
(03:23):
experience after the factbecause of these five people and
it's nothing you did, but it'ssomething that these less like
1% of the bottom 1% of peopledid to ruin it for everyone and
for better or worse.
That's how I'm running thingsto put bumpers on everyone
because of the crazy five.
And I'm just picking the numberfive, um, and so I'm learning
(03:46):
like, okay, well, how can I?
And I'm just picking the numberfive.
And so I'm learning like, okay, well, how can I show that I'm a
trustworthy person, to not getdefault templated by the crazy
outliers.
And maybe you can, maybe youcan't, but anyhow it's all
wrapped up.
I suppose I have key access tothe studio because I know the
lockbox code so I could go in ifI tried to, I guess.
(04:08):
Um, but there's a sign in thedoor.
There's a sign walking throughan area that the business is
closed, effective so-and-so day.
Um, in my message to my keyholders I told them like any
access without supervision ofthe property manager could be
viewed as trespassing.
This is not feral, this is notlike a feral territory area, and
(04:33):
so it's just the way I'm doingit.
There might be a better way todo it.
There might be a kinder way todo it, there might be a smoother
way to do it.
Kind of would be nice to havemy enforcer I don't know who,
who that would be but like a badguy to do all of this for me.
Um, I don't know who that wouldbe, but there are folks that
I'm sure make a living off ofconducting layoffs or handling
(04:56):
bad news or dealing the punches,so that I can focus on the
stuff that's more naturallyenjoyable.
I don't know what that wouldlook like, but anyhow, right now
it's all that it's cracking upto be.
It's up to other people ifthey're going to do as requested
(05:17):
or if there's any consequencesfor that.
I've put up the bumper as I canand that's where it's at.
Put up the bumper as I can andthat's where it's at.
Um, so now it's just time to gohome.
It's 9 50 at night.
I got there at like six so,yeah, that was three and a half
hours.
(05:40):
I didn't realize it would takethat long.
Just for, and I had like apunch list.
I knew exactly what I was goingto do, but I didn't realize,
like, how long it would take toactually do it and to make sure.
Make sure that it was all done, because the last thing you want
to do is it took me a while.
One thing I didn't realizehere's a free promotion.
So we use Google for our GoogleDrive, our Gmail, all that
stuff, and it's Google is reallygood about passwords and
(06:01):
security.
So just even adding my number asa second two-factor
authentication and then gettingit switched over, and then
kicking other people out oftheir devices, adding my, my
cell phone, and then, like mystudio, having the admin
permissions that the studio does, like Google, you make it hard,
like I don't.
I wish you could make it alittle easier, but I'm glad you
(06:22):
make it so hard, um, so anyhow, all that to say, uh, just wild
man.
Uh, that probably took them anhour, half hour, to do.
Um, but yeah, there's no shamefrom doing this decision.
I wish I, I wish I did itearlier in the day that I wish,
(06:43):
cause then I don't want to getthis mess.
I wish I did it earlier in theday that I wish, because then I
don't want to get this emailsent out at 9 o'clock at night
and people wake up in 7 hoursfor their first class.
I hope people don't wake up at5 o'clock in the morning to have
all of this.
So, anyhow, that's where we'reat.
I'm at peace about the closure.
(07:05):
Next few days are going to be alittle rocky, I imagine,
because it's a surprise peopledon't like it.
I'm just gonna, I'll pause herelike I think I'm tired, I think
I'm overthinking things andwhat's done is done.
There's nothing we could havedone to save the business and
whether we stopped activity orthe bank did or the landlord did
(07:27):
, someone was going to do it andI'm emotionally invested and
that's why I feel so distraughtby it all.
That's where we're at.
That's where we're going.
Let's go home, get a snack, goto bed.
Tomorrow we have a day job todo.
Let's rock and roll.
