Red (00:17):
Welcome to Episode 46 of
the Busted Buttons video game
podcast. And you know what? Iwas trying to bring the theory
but I'm gonna be honest with youguys. I'm hung over today we are
we are recording this a littlebehind the scenes we're
recording this The day after St.
Patty's Day, I may havecelebrated a little too hard. If
I'm not my normal, enthusiasticself, I do apologize. In the
(00:40):
meantime, I do apologize inadvance. Like bring it in
either. So
Hick (00:45):
we're in trouble for this
podcast God sent over. I'm like,
I'm not hung over, but I'm kindof tired. I'm like, I really
don't feel like doing thepodcast or God do the podcast
guys. Well, people know what dayit is. I don't want to be on
Friday people it takes us abouta week to edit this damn thing
but I don't want to do tomorrow.
I want to enjoy the weekend. Sowe're rolling it might suck
today cuz I don't want to do it.
(01:06):
Read tongue over but we'rewrong. But go ahead with the
intro read
Red (01:09):
you know what we're gonna
power through and you better
bring it because you put theoutline together. Yeah.
Hick (01:14):
Give me topics that I had
to talk about which I don't mind
talking. But when I had to talkI'm kind of like, Oh, don't
Red (01:20):
worry, I'll step up when I
need to. I won't be afraid to
interrupt but yeah, so we'regoing to talk about in Episode
46. We're going to talk aboutHiggs first thoughts comparing
the PlayStation five and theXbox series x because he is he's
been lucky enough to have hishands on both of them for a
little while. Now. He's gonnatalk about Astros' playgroup as
Astros' play room, almost likeplayground and it came out
(01:41):
playground play room. I was justone of the first games he played
on the PlayStation five. We'regoing to do some final thoughts.
Just quickly on cyberpunk20 2077 which we've both beaten
now.
Hick (01:52):
That's okay. Your hangover
right there when we start
talking? Oh,
Red (01:56):
yeah, late now.
Hick (01:57):
So the beer drinking to
try to cure your hangover. Most
people take it from experienceddrinkers were best cure. Okay,
there's only one cure for ahangover. That's time and rest.
That's the only cure. But if youweren't prolong that hangover,
maybe it wasn't called the hair, the hair. The hair, the hair,
the dog. Just drink the nextday. If you ever hang out with
people, it will make you feelbetter now, from once again,
(02:18):
from experience drinkers. Youcan't like sip on a beard, like
a little bit of time. No, youguys, those bitches. It will
make you feel better eventuallyget
Red (02:26):
the alcohol back in your
system, if we promise if you're
under 21. Don't do that.
Hick (02:30):
Yeah. And that's really,
that's good. That's good advice.
But it's really not good advice.
So y'all take it whichever wayyou want to.
Red (02:38):
Then we're we're also going
to talk about Tiger Woods
returning to the PGA Tour to Kfranchise. So that's kind of
interesting news. And we'regoing to talk a little bit about
games without photo mode and howmuch that sucks, because I love
photo.
Hick (02:49):
Yes.
Red (02:50):
And we're also going to
talk a little bit about if we
have time about saving, likeautosave versus manual save, you
know, just in the state of thesave game situation in 2021. But
I know Hickey we're very, veryexcited today. But in general,
you're very excited that you'vehad your hands on both a
PlayStation five and an Xboxseries x. So I'm going to let
(03:11):
you fire away. What are yourfirst thoughts, there's two
console side by side.
Hick (03:15):
You know, it's really just
awesome having both of them,
like we've kind of talkedbefore. And you I gotta put my
beard down, man, because asyou're kind of hurt me step away
from the mic. I just was hold ittoo long. It just wasn't feeling
right, I got I got to talkwithout my beer, because I use
my hands a lot and everythinglike that. But I am lucky to be
in a financial situation towhere I can't get both of them.
Because I've never been in asituation like this before. So
(03:38):
like it's just, if you're agamer, it's like the ultimate
high having both systems at onetime and I'm not trying to be a
dig or pissing me off or saythat I'm better than you. I'm
just saying that, you know, I'mlucky and I was able to do it.
And it's just, I'm guess whatI'm trying to say is if you are
in that position, or somehowyou'll swing it, whether it be
your best buy credit cards, BestBuy. I know these fuckers are
hard to find everywhere. You'rejust lucky if you get it
(04:01):
anywhere. But if you can getBest Buy or use a credit card,
you know, get that ultimate hightwo systems at the same time. It
is awesome. But you know, I'mgonna start off kind of like the
actually down the outline alittle bit. I'm very surprised
how close these two systems arefor me like going from last
generation. I was like, youknow, I'm a PlayStation guy.
That's what I like Xbox, but I'ma PlayStation guy. Now there's a
(04:24):
little bias there because I hadthe base x xbox one but I had
the ps4 Pro so yes, more pro wasbetter. It had 4k I think in my
head 60 frames per second versus30 for the base miles. I'm not
confident on that stage
Red (04:37):
but on the games, I think
it's all dependent on the game.
Hick (04:39):
Yeah, but anyways, like
towards the end of last year, I
played a lot third party onPlayStation and so obviously, I
came to love it didn't use myXbox. So going into this gym, I
was like, oh, Playstation guy,you know, I'm definitely gonna
be that one. So I got the Xboxfirst really, really like it and
then I find out my PlayStation.
I was like okay, you know, hopefully returned to the Xbox.
Hopefully I play it somehopefully it's not just you
(05:03):
know, Playstation Oh, actually, hopefully I was hoping that it
would be PlayStation playing allthe time. It's great. The Xbox
is great, but really they arevery close. I'm gonna kind of go
through from my point of viewkind of my first impressions of
both systems. I've alreadytalked about the Xbox One now
compare it to the PlayStationfive. Whoo, man. Have I talked
(05:23):
for a while right. I'll takeover I'll take over this
podcast, man.
Red (05:29):
I can jump in. I can't
speak I don't have a ps4. I can
talk I can talk Xbox though andno, I we are in good situation.
You're absolutely right. And Ido I'm with you. I intend on
having both. At some point, youknow, one on I'm not I don't
have the energy or the patienceto do this online shit for two
console's like trying to get alot. It has gotten a lot better
(05:50):
people are seeming to get theirhands on them. After I got my
series x. I'll be honest, Itried a couple times for the
PlayStation as well, especiallybefore you got yours because you
were trying to get one too. Andafter that, I was like, Fuck, it
ain't worth this. I'll wait tillI can walk into a target and
find what
Hick (06:05):
I said that to for the
PlayStation. And it lasted like
a week as like now wanted now.
Red (06:10):
Part of it for me. And you
know, you talk about the
relative strengths andweaknesses. And I know we're
going to kind of go through somesome of what we think are the
strengths of both. You know, part of the story is just
neither one has that killer applike that killer game. No, I
absolutely need right now. Anddon't get me wrong. The games
that have been upgraded for bothof them looks absolutely
stunning. Or at least I canspeak for the series x and
(06:31):
you've raved about how good theylook on PSP. I
Hick (06:34):
will step in right here.
One thing I love about the Xboxover the PlayStation, is that on
Xbox, it shows like a littleicon of what games are optimized
for the expertise. You know, Iwas going to mention another
system that is apparently nextyear. I don't believe it is. So
let's just say it's optimizedfor the Xbox series x. I love
him that icon because you trulyknow as PlayStation doesn't have
that. So I'm not exactly surewhat games are optimized, which
(06:56):
are if they optimize all thegames, I'm not really sure how
that works on the PlayStationside. So Xbox did win that
battle. No, definitely.
Red (07:05):
Definitely. And that's one
thing you know, you love about
game pass, you get in there andand shit. Like you said, it
shows.
Hick (07:09):
Yep. x s stores, not just
game passes.
Red (07:13):
You're right on the
labeling. And they
Hick (07:15):
also the categories for
games that are optimized,
because that's the only place Igo, the ones that are optimized.
And so it's nice even havingthat category to where you go.
Okay, these are the best gameson Xbox.
Red (07:25):
Now. I will absolutely say
I am excited to try out some of
the the the dual sensecontroller for the PlayStation.
Yeah. And I'll obviously let youtalk the advantages here in a
minute. But like, say you needto break there. But no i the
things I've read about it, andhow good of a controller it is
what it does, like, I'm excitedto try it. I am excited to
experience it. Have you enjoyedthe dual sense so far,
Hick (07:47):
I have an overall really,
the controllers are very close.
But the thing I love about thePlayStation is first of all,
it's a little bigger, and youdon't realize how small the Xbox
controller is, until you had theps4 controller in your hand. But
yes, the adaptive crap, feedbackand the adaptive adaptive
triggers, it makes it feel morelike an experience in Xbox is
(08:08):
missing that a little bit. So wehave the controller in my hand.
And overall, you're gonna see atheme where the PS five is just
more of an experience. Whereas Ialways kind of say the Xbox is
more of an upgrade, which is nota bad thing. It's not a bad
thing. But right, like, youknow, like, Yeah, get those
features. Three, well, 3d audio,I believe the Xbox Actually, I'm
not sure, but I think it does.
That's a good question. But I'mlike, you know, just, first of
(08:29):
all, there's these blue lights, like how the controller looks,
there's these blue lights on theps4 that go around a
touchscreen, it looks likebeautiful ends to some people,
that might not really matter.
But those little things likethat, and how like cool things
look like those are big thingsto me. And you know, I love that
touchscreen button. It's I thinkit's bigger on this controller,
(08:49):
which the controller is bigger.
People have complained aboutbeing too big. I've not had that
problem yet. Now my fingers havegotten fatter in recent years.
So that might have a little bitto
Red (09:02):
do with it. But I always
say COVID wait.
Hick (09:05):
But so far, I am loving
the controller and it has this
like clear cover over thebuttons that just looks sharp
and sleek as hell that might bekind of the same definition of a
word.
Red (09:15):
But anyways, we'll run with
it. Yeah, and
Hick (09:19):
here's the thing. I
thought the wife complained
about the why I thought thewhite color of both the
controller what we're talkingabout and also the system. I
thought it was going to botherme, but that whole White is like
a slickness. A clean fill, itfeels more futuristic, which is
kind of what I'm gonna say twothings. Actually, one, I feel
like the PS five is more of anexperience. And two, I feel like
(09:40):
it's more next gen, then well, that's kind of going on, same
thing. I feel like it's morenext gen than the Xbox just
because of how it looks like youknow a lot of people hate the
design of the PS five, includingnew, but that's fine, that's
fine, but I like it. I like theway it looks. I think it's
different. I think it's betterthan a boring old boxer you
know, wherever so Oh, We're alllike, there's a lot of things.
(10:01):
You know, I like about the PSfive. And here I want to talk
about some other things that Ilike. Yeah, first of all little
things I've kind of talked aboutthe user interface, the
graphics, the animation, andthen also the music. Like PS
five has that now Xbox has alittle bit of the graphics and
the animations, but it doesn'thave the music, which they could
obviously do that with anupdate. But like this is just
(10:22):
missing from the Xbox. And justa little thing like that makes
it PlayStation feel like more ofan experience I can stay on the
home screen forever is stilllike, you know, enjoy because
there's music playing in thebackground like that. For me,
Red (10:37):
I'm torn on that one
because it's like the
PlayStation four had thebackground music you do like the
themes, all that stuff? Yeah, the background music though.
Like I love I love Okay, firstof all, I love the themes like
the PlayStation four, the factthat you can get game specific
themes, like mine has been Godof War since I got it. You know,
it looks beautiful.
Hick (10:53):
I always go the original
man, I always stick with the
original Oh no, but
Red (10:57):
the music though I'm kind
of torn on this because there
are times I will fire up theconsole, and then kind of walk
away from it. And you know, itsits there on the home screen
for a while, you know, whetherit's because work pulled me away
or I'm in the kitchen trying tocook something, whatever,
whatever it might be. And youknow, sometimes not having that
music is better in my opinion, just like especially if you
fired up, you know, let's saywe're working from home you
(11:20):
know, we're going through COVIDand just having it turned on and
you have to take calls orwhatever and you don't have to
mute it because there's no musiclike so for me I think there are
advantages to to both and
Hick (11:33):
not all of us are on the
phone five hours a day like
human
Red (11:35):
Oh, it's fucking awful.
That's a podcast unto it. Yeah.
But so I'm a little torn on themusic but I completely agree
with you on the themes though.
Like I love the themes, theanimations, at least on the
PlayStation four. So if they'vecontinued those into the
PlayStation five then I'm allfor it. So I will let you
continue working your waythrough your PlayStation five
though I said to jump in on thatexam a little different opinion
but
Hick (11:57):
that's mostly all want to
say about the PS five but the
Xbox series x like I said it'snot that far behind like for my
experience so far game pass isso much better than PlayStation
now. nelkin lightstation does alittle bit differently they have
PlayStation now which is fivebucks less a month but then you
had to pay for PlayStation Plusso like ends up being like you
know, that's five bucks a monthtoo so or five divided by 60
(12:20):
divided by whatever the numbersare it adds up to five bucks a
month if you buy annually solike that's kind of the same
thing there whereas PlayStationjust divided game pass includes
Xbox Live go I just got done donumbers all day, man. You know
what I was going with that sobut yeah, gamepad PlayStation
now it's kind of you knowPlayStation Plus collection that
is good but I played most ofthose games so game pass hands
(12:43):
down by far a lot better rightnow. the share button on the
Xbox is not the share button thecapture button you know it's in
a such a better locate wellfirst of all the PlayStation
doesn't have a dedicated capturebutton now you just have to hold
down the it's not startingselect anymore. I know that but
this like button, you just holdthat down for like two seconds,
it takes a screenshot on the PSfive, whereas on the Xbox like
(13:07):
it has a dedicated button.
Absolutely. A fantastic locationand then going back to the
Select and Start buttons. Yes, Iknow they're different. That's
not the name. Those are a loteasier to access on the Xbox
controller. And then here's oneof my favorite things, those
bumps on those little tiny bumpson the back of the Xbox
controller. I don't even knowthat I love that until I got it
(13:29):
man like damn. Yeah, huge andapparently the PlayStation has
that but I can barely feel likethere's not that much there. It
still feels very smooth. Butthat Xbox like you can fill it
in it honestly does help outwith the grids because like you
know, we get nervous during abig fire wherever you're getting
right close to being thatchallenge that you've not been
(13:49):
able to be like your hands or atleast my hands, they start to
sweat a little bit so oh manthat is absolutely huge. And
then Xbox kind of Gluck's it hasit like I was gonna talk to you
there for a second right herecuz I'm kind of losing my voice
kind of just continue on withsome of the things you like
about Xbox I
Red (14:09):
guys loved the series x i
mean i've raved about it since I
got it like like you said thegame pass is you know I joke
that there's not a killer gameright now that you have to have
but the game pass it just meansyou have that library right
there at your hands. You know wethe best sale is finally gotten
confirmed. So like all thosegames are on game pass now, I
think there's added 20 of thoseBethesda game so that's awesome.
(14:30):
New Yep, I'm completely with youon the share button like
PlayStation had that. You know, they were ahead of the game last
generation like the control theywere not yet like double press
the Xbox One. I completelyagree. I love the new Share
button like you said, greatlocation, easier to use. Now the
PS five isn't bad. It's just alittle bit more difficult than
(14:51):
the xboxes and when you talkabout the texture and the bumps
the back of the controller, Iabsolutely 100% agree that they
are Awesome. And I also didn'tknow I wanted them until I had
them because like, I still playthe switch quite a bit with the
pro controller. Yeah, and it'sgot a little bit of the texture.
But man going back to theoriginal Xbox One controller
(15:11):
now, it just feels so wrong, nothaving those bumps not having
that texture. So I'm with you, Ithink that is such a great
feature, it makes you feel likeyou've got a really good grip on
it, you're not going to lose it.
You know, I'm completely withyou. I was a huge fan of the
bumps on the back of thecontroller. So I mean all at
all, like I said, I can't reallycompare them head to
Hick (15:32):
head like you can because
you have to say something about
the capture, like we're talkingabout the capture button. Also
the app, like being able to takeyour screenshots from the app
like that is humongous becausewe're on our phones a lot. And a
lot of times I post to socialmedia from my phone, even though
I'm at home, I used to alwayspost from the my computer. And
I'll have one day I just foundit easier to do my phone. So be
(15:55):
able to get those pictures onthe app, and how the fuck
PlayStation doesn't allow you todo that is beyond me. beyond me,
but with PlayStation, you canhook up a wireless mouse and
keyboard to it. Right is nice.
Apparently I've read thatMicrosoft is not that good at
that capability, which is blowsmy mind to Microsoft computers.
Like I would think that thatwould be now not tested that
(16:17):
theory. Yeah, but I've justheard that actually, Playstation
is better for keyboards. Sowhile the photos don't go to
your app, you can use a keyboardto kind of type in your so
that's nice now last year, andthey had an app that you could
do it with you they dotechnically have an app, but
it's the Remote Play app and itswitches off everything. It's a
pain in the fucking ass. SoPlayStation step your game up
(16:37):
there, let me get my freakingscreenshots from the ads so that
I can post them to social media.
So he was I think that's reallykind of looking. Like I said,
Xbox does feel more like anupdate in next gen. But, you
know, kind of reiterating. WhileI already said I thought the
PlayStation was gonna be so farabove it. Like so far. There's a
(16:57):
lot that was my own bias. Butlike, you know, I think it's
just getting to the point thatat the end of the day, all that
really matters is that thesegames look good. And they play
good on both systems. That iswhat is going on. So overall,
each system has its owndifferent features. If you want
my recommendation, people buyboth of them. Enjoy each of
(17:18):
these little features that comefrom each of these systems. Now,
here's one thing, I'm curious tosee how the future plays out
with this because the PS fivedude is freaking humongous. Like
this thing is gigantic. And it'sa little bit too big. I will be
honest with you. Yeah, Xbox, Ithink is the right size. But I
find myself wondering eventhough technology parts hardware
(17:39):
is very small these days, likeI'm going for like going
forward. Is there something inthat PlayStation five? And
that's the reason why it'sbigger. That's going to help it
more in the future. And a lotthat's kind of what the whole 8k
Gaming das thinking.
Red (17:53):
And I really think that
there will be like, I mean, cuz
we've seen refreshes, like, wasn't there the PS Slim ps3 or
ps4? limb, you know, and thenthe ps3 had
Hick (18:03):
like four different
iterations.
Red (18:05):
Right. Right. So and I so I
do feel like that as we get a
few years into this generation,it's not so much that the
components will necessarily getthat much smaller. Yeah, they'll
run more efficiently. There'llbe less heat, because I've heard
part of the reason the original, the Xbox One was so huge, was
cooling. Because it's like, theythey learn they're like, yeah,
Hick (18:27):
oh, PS five gets hot, I'll
be honest.
Red (18:29):
Yeah. So like, I think a
lot of it is driven by the need
to space for airflow. Otherwise,when you're running 4k, 8k,
whatever, you know, that shitgets hot. And cooling is so
important. So I do think asthese components get more
efficient, not necessarilysmaller, but just more
efficient, then maybe we can geta refresh of the model.
Hick (18:51):
So I was just wondering if
the PlayStation put something in
there that the Xbox didn't, thatwe're not going to see us until
like three or four years fromnow. I guess that's a good
question. good with that wholething.
Red (19:00):
And that's a really good
question. But it's like, you
know, me, I'm not a fan of theway the PS five looks. The size,
I don't think would necessarilybother me too much like it. It's
probably gonna stand next to myentertainment system getting
oily. So just like my Xbox does.
Now, the Xbox series x standsnext to it. So I'm not
necessarily that worried aboutthe size. But yeah, I mean,
they're both they're both big.
Hick (19:23):
I mean, yeah. looks sexy,
but yeah, they're both big, but,
you know, kind of going on how Iknew that PlayStation three had
four iterations. I could bewrong on that. I'm not gonna
lie. But the reason that kind ofknow that it had a lot of
iterations is because recently Iplayed the game Asher's play
room, which I highly recommendfor anybody that has given a PS
five, I would highly recommendthat your first game be Asher's
(19:46):
playroom. It's about a four hourgame. I'd be in the first night
and I have kids now. Granted, Ididn't help out much with the
kids that first night because avideo game system let me know my
wife. I was like, Hey, you gotgive me a night and she did. So
this game right here. It kind oflike takes you back to the
history of PlayStation which iswhy knew how many parts it had
because you go around collectingartifacts and these artifacts
(20:09):
are PlayStation parts from thepast so it's kind of cool to
have that history right there ofAstros playroom. And then it
also shows you what this nextgen system can do but it's like
you know, actually uses all thebuzz that it's supposed to use
is supposed to use the adaptivedemon haptic feedback,
Red (20:27):
back and reactive triggers.
Yeah,
Hick (20:29):
uses those things. It
shows you how I can work so
right there, hey, I'm gonna giveyou the history of PlayStation.
But I'm also going to show youwhat this system does. It's a
great first game to bring himinto this next generation and
then it's a 3d platformer itlooks absolutely we're always of
course is free it's fucking freeso all you got to do you do have
(20:51):
to download it when you get thesystem but right i mean right
there like a free game takes youto the history shows you what
the system can do. I think
Red (21:00):
this is such a huge point
because like we sports is
somehow became like one of thegreatest selling games of all
time, but the reason is theyincluded it with the damn movie.
And therefore while the we wasthe hottest thing ever and so
the fact that they make astersAstros' playroom, I swear I will
pronounce it right by the end ofthis podcast. Yeah, Astros play
(21:20):
room like a Yes, yeah, I
Hick (21:21):
never mispronounce
anything on this pot or ever.
Red (21:26):
But you know, the fact that
they included as a free
download, like is basically apack in game like that is just
genius move.
Hick (21:34):
I think on usually packing
games are not that good. Like
this game is really good. Ifthey don't make it like a full
scale game. Like they are justlike, that's a lost opportunity
right there.
Red (21:43):
Right? I completely agree
in the fact that like, like you
said, the whole idea of like apack in game usually is to show
what this system is capable oflike we sports was all about the
motion controls for bowling andtennis and all that other stuff,
as well as playroom. Like yousaid, I haven't played it yet.
But if it really does show thelike you said the haptic
feedback, the adaptive damperslike those features, that you
(22:05):
would hope that yes, that sucksyou in isn't as a player. Yeah,
you would hope the developerswould game developers would say,
Okay, here's how you know, here's how it works. Here's how
they work. It can be used in allthese different scenarios. I'm
hoping game developers reallytake advantage of that, because
I feel like, you know, theswitch we had it's HD rumble or
whatever in the joi cons. I feellike no one. No one took
(22:27):
advantage of that. Yeah, whatone to switch was the game that,
you know, one of the early gamesmaybe had ever played?
Hick (22:34):
That game was like, nah.
Red (22:36):
So it seems to me though,
that like they just, you know,
they just dropped it. Never, noone ever took advantage of it.
So I'm hoping that by includingthese, you know, this pack in
game Astros play room that showsyou here's what it's capable of,
here's how amazing it feels. Ihope developers really take
advantage of that and run withit. So I know I will absolutely
play it when, whenever I do geta PS five,
Hick (22:57):
I highly recommend it
should be your first game for
all PS five owners. Yeah, it'snot gonna take you that long.
Red (23:03):
Exactly. And plus, I like
how it has the history of the
PlayStation, all that
Hick (23:06):
stuff in there. And it's
like, the parts are very
detailed. Like you can actuallylike, rotate it, and you can
zoom in and the detail isamazing. Like it looks because I
have the ps4 Pro and I kind ofwas comparing it when I got that
artifact. It looks dead up likemy ps4 Pro.
Red (23:20):
Now that's really cool. So,
so I'm excited. I want to test
it out. Because like I said, Ido want to feel like a game like
that, that takes full advantageof those features. So I'm
excited to eventually play itbut kind of shifting gears to a
game both of us have actuallyplayed we I finished cyberpunk a
little while ago. You finishedit a little more recently, both
(23:40):
of us played on the series xkind of what are some of your
final thoughts cuz I feel likeI've shared some of mine a
little bit but I'll kick thisone off. What are some of your
final thoughts on cyberpunk?
2077
Hick (23:50):
that could be the best
game ever, but it's not going to
be because of all the issuesthat it has. And I mean, I
bashed on it at the beginningbecause it does have a lot of
issues. I'm not gonna sit hereand act like it doesn't have
glitches that doesn't have bugsis probably the most in a game
that I've ever played. Buthere's what I will say this game
is fantastic is freakinfantastic is so much fun, and
(24:13):
this probably is not a goodthing but you get to a certain
point where you really startenjoying the game and you like
look past those glitches andthose bugs you like yeah, I know
they're there but I'm having somuch fun with this game that I'm
going to enjoy and we do want tosay one thing this is like kind
of our final quick thoughtsbecause here a few episodes down
(24:33):
the road we are going to talkabout cyberpunk 2077 that's
gonna be a that's gonna be a funone yeah, throughout the whole
episode so we're gonna drop somequick dots right here but we
will have an episode focusentirely around this game but
now just I guess when it wassent dummies a very GTA five
like game but like i one thing Ilove about it is that it's
(24:54):
futuristic. It obviously takesplace in 2077 and you really
Some might not know what thisgame is about. That could
possibly possibly mean somethingelse you never know like, Yeah
100% accurate if you don't knowanything about the game that
2077 means yours smart ass.
Alright, so anyways, that wasyour file that's going Oh, it's
Red (25:20):
all good No, I'm with you.
It has the bones to be such anamazing like the bones of one of
the best games ever. Like Iloved the controls. I loved the
abilities you had the weaponsand there may have been a few
too many weapons but yeah, Ilove I love the variety. And
then you know, the the the mainstory itself was good, but not
great. You have some of the sidestories I loved. Like you know,
(25:42):
Judy was an amazing character.
Yeah. And I just totally butlike rogue story with Johnny was
a good one. The racer girl whosename I just forgot that she's
trying to get revenge for yeah,I forgot that one time, like I
see written down some of thesenames. Yeah,
Hick (25:58):
we're gonna write them
down. We're actually talking
about longer. Sure.
Red (26:01):
So all in all, like
cyberpunk, I thought was an
amazing, amazing package. Just Ilove the tech abilities. Like
the quick hack. Yeah, and justit to me, the different things
you could do with the quick Xwas just so much fun. And it
gave you such a good variety onhow you approached any fight you
wanted. And there are a ton offights if you do all the little
(26:21):
police missions, all the sidemissions, but you know, so all
in all, I'm 100% with you, Ilove the city. I love the
controls the way the gameplayed, you know, it's got that
hybrid first person shooterslash RPG, so gentle different
than something like playing acall of duty or Halo or anything
like that, because it's a littlemore RPG focused. But man did I
love the skill trees and just, you know, like I said, all the
(26:45):
abilities guns were great. Yeah, maybe a little, maybe a little
too much stuff to work with. But
Hick (26:49):
yeah, I still thought it
was too ambitious of a game to
be honest with you, like, Idon't like is when you can't
fail your skill trees. Likethere's so much to accomplish in
the game. And yeah, it doesoffer to replayability like
you've kind of talked about, youcan go through this game. And
you can play it the entirely adifferent way. Like I went
around with a shotgun. I wasjust blasting fuckers in the
(27:12):
face all game long, but you wereyou were cyber hacking them.
It's a different way. So there'sa lot of replayability in like
the skill trees probably can'tbe filled up, because of all
these different ways that youcan go about your game. But I
didn't like that part of it.
That's one thing. Like you godown here you say there's a lot
of things that did like andthere's some things that didn't
like you know, all kinds of kindof comes back to just really
(27:32):
being too ambitious. There'sjust too much in the game.
There's too much to pick up inthe game, it reminds me a lot of
Skyrim and why kind of like deadgame, like, the game is
definitely a littleoverwhelming. And that's why I
didn't know there's a fuckingcar your car icon until the very
second last hours of the game.
Like they showed you that at thebeginning. And then they throw
(27:54):
100,000 things on you. And I'msat here with a piece of shit
car the whole time. I had thatbadass car that I could just
call it
Red (28:02):
I spent 200,000 credits.
Hick (28:04):
so pissed off and like the
thing is, like I knew was there.
But I always pay so muchattention to like the health
because I was you know me I runin like, you know, guns blazing.
So I use a lot of the up buttonto recover my health. I don't
care what the other bugs were.
But I had to use a lot of those.
But I was so mad when I boughtthat. I can't remember what card
is. But it's the one that lookslike a Lamborghini. Like I
Red (28:24):
marked it and could never
find it again. It was all
Hick (28:27):
black. Yeah, I was like
what the fuck you buy these cars
and then you just lose themright away like that is Bs, and
then pay people. If you areplaying this game you all these
cards that you buy, you can callthese cards at any time
throughout the game. Don't belike me, don't play 130 hours of
this crap and not know that youcan call your card because I'm
sitting there at the end of thegame. And like why would I call
(28:47):
these caught? Why would I buythese cars? There's no point to
buy these cars. I look at it.
And I'm like you got to beshaming me.
Red (28:55):
So I will ask what did you
and all institutes I know you've
been talking for a second butwhat did you think?
a long long time ago andone of our episodes we talked
about celebrities in video gamesand whether it's voice
Hick (29:08):
is Keanu Reeves was
fucking awesome in this game do
you like Johnny silver? Hey,like he kinda I want to say he
made this game but just hispersonality his acting was just
perfect love for this game likeI mean his character Johnny
silverhand just probably myfavorite character in the game I
think it added so much to thegame so I loved it love having
(29:29):
ice debris in the game and kindof like you've already touched
on this but Night City exploreNight City The colors of nice
city and the outskirts likethere's not a lot outskirts to
the game but you can't getoutside of the city and do
things which I love and I feellike it's gonna do that whole
GTA five where I think cyberpunk2077 like there's never gonna be
(29:50):
a second one. I think they'rejust gonna keep on adding
content, adding content like afive and we're gonna see that
with a lot of franchises goingforward.
Red (30:00):
Putting out expansions I
mean, they did it for the
Witcher three, you know?
Hick (30:03):
Yeah, but it was a real
almost. Oh, another game
Red (30:06):
that could have been that
could have been a game unto
itself.
Hick (30:09):
Yeah, but I can't keep on
talking about awesome games but
I can't wait to go to game thatwas awesome. But we know it's
not really awesome anymorebecause one is not freakin
available and too We don't playgolf games anymore. But that's
the recent news that um, it'snot the same EA franchise but a
Tiger Woods is going to appearon the cover of the PGA Tour to
(30:30):
K which I'm not even sure doesthat to be honest with you, but
Red (30:33):
it's still EA but I'm not
100% close. No, it's
Hick (30:36):
not a No it's not. Yeah, I
Red (30:37):
do know that. It's by
Ubisoft.
Hick (30:39):
They do everything. Yeah,
actually it might Ubisoft.
That's a good point. They do doeverything but I'm not positive.
I like 90% sure that this is notEA because I believe that now
there's no way to make it too.
So I don't know. I don't know.
But I don't believe it's EA. Butthis is a game that ran I played
way back in the day had a ton offun with this. I'll read it to
you right here cuz I've beentalking a lot. How do you see I
(31:00):
know we don't play golf games alot. But will this bring you
back to Golf? And how do youfeel about Tiger Woods making an
appearance once again on a golfvideo game?
Red (31:09):
Well, I think the segue
from a you know, Keanu Reeves to
Tiger Woods, right? There'stalking every day we're getting
better. We're getting better.
But no, I'm a fan. Like I mean, obviously, Tiger brings interest
to golf. Like he drives viewers.
He drives the narrative, youknow, whether he's winning or
not, it doesn't matter hitbecause he was so good for so
(31:31):
yeah, people like someone whodominates like that. And you
know, and he was a bit of apurse, like a bit of a mystery
off the course. You know, hekept very private life until of
course, all that blew up. Yeah, very publicly, unfortunately.
And that, you know, well, Idon't wanna say unfortunately,
because you know, what, youknow, cheat on your wife, all
that stuff? Yeah, obviously. Soand obviously, I've always dealt
with some of his drug andalcohol issues, but, you know,
(31:53):
but you know, he, he's hispersonal life got pulled into
the public. Yeah. Which ithappens with celebrities. I do
get it but it you know, himstepping away from golf was bad
for golf. And I think it was badfor golf video games as well. I
knew I was gonna get back tovideo games at some point.
Hick (32:08):
Yeah. He was he actually
he didn't take him off until
four years after the scandalbecause it wasn't the scandal
happened. And then EA took himoff the game, but no, it
happened four years later. So heseems to be really golfer like
cuz he like, I
Red (32:22):
think they're more worried
about him. Yeah. But so I'm
excited that they bring himback. I mean, that franchise,
because that franchise wasamazing. It was amazing for so
long, like we played theabsolute shit out of it. But
there was, you know, college oreven some after that, but
especially in college, because, yeah, drink and play Tiger Woods
golf. That was drinking tiger.
That was our game. I know, we'vetalked about that on this
(32:42):
podcast before. But you know, soto me, you know, you had Rory on
there for a little while, then, you know, they did just what the
club was, I think the mostrecent iteration. It's just,
it's not the same. Now. It'sjust like if they made a new
football game, and it wasn'tMadden, you know, yeah. It's you
lose something, whether you likeTiger or not, and that's, you
know, whatever, you know, as agolfer or as a person, whatever.
Yeah. It's, it was hisfranchise. It was Yeah,
(33:05):
absolutely. His franchise andwhen his face wasn't on it
anymore, it did hurt it I thinkand and just just like it hurt
golf, him being away from it. Ithink people were like, Oh, it's
not the same to say Rory is PGATour. You know,
Hick (33:18):
he hasn't won 15 majors
either. like three or four? I
think so.
Red (33:23):
So I'm all for them
bringing him back. You know, I
hope he's got his personal lifestuff together. I don't know,
necessarily. I know we had thatwreck recently and all that. But
yeah, I don't necessarily keepup with too much of it. I do
enjoy watching golf. But there'sa hell of a lot of good
characters, including tiger. Soyep, he's got his personal stuff
together. I'm happy to see himback on there. What about you?
Hick (33:40):
He's just saying like, and
I try to, like, you know,
separate, like, like, peoplethat are golfers like, you know,
versus their personal liveslike, Oh, yeah. Chris Brown is a
piece of shit. Yeah, like, youknow, like his music. Like Floyd
Mayweather, another piece ofshit, but I like to watch him as
a boxer so bright for me Do Iagree with like, you know, all
that stuff? He did his personallicense to skate? Oh, no,
obviously not especially havingthree daughters, but I am able
(34:02):
to separate Okay, he's a golfer.
And then he had this issue goingon, which was not right back. I
said like him as a golfer. Andthat's kind of one of the one of
the best ever Yeah, back tolike, you know, he had that
brand persona. Like he reallycarried that EA game. And when I
when I saw I was like, oh Rorylike you know, eat PGA Tour
like, you know, EA PGA Tour. Iwas like, I don't want to play
(34:22):
that game. And yeah, it wasprobably the exact same and they
only made it for one year, likewell, this didn't sell very well
so we're not gonna do it again.
So I mean, I guess I wasconfused. I've already said
this, but I don't understand whythey parted for years after the
scandal like during the scandallike that would have made sense
but you know, it's like oh, Iguess he started sucking so they
(34:44):
got rid of them but you know, golf Miss Tiger for a long time
and like you know, he's tryingto get his life together and be
a better person so you got togive him you know, credit for
that button. They missed Tigerlike you know, and then he
finally won last year but youknow, it's kind of well was all
coming together until that regbut like, you know, Get back
into the spotlight and I knowthat meme you like there's no
way we would ever play golf gamewith Rory and that's nothing
(35:06):
against Rory it's just the brandpersona is not there but like
you
Red (35:10):
said, I got Rory his golf
game for free because I had I
had an EA is whatever EA is ongame pass now through Apple,
it's on game pass. Now I got ita couple years ago for free as
part of EA I was never playedit. Like I got it was free. And
I'm like, Oh, I miss playinggolf games. It's relaxing. It's
like city building games orsomething like that. Yeah,
sometimes you just wantsomething relaxing. And you
(35:33):
know, I never touched it. And Ijust and I don't think that had
a whole lot to do with you know,Tiger versus Rory. But part of
it's like, it's not the same itreally like it could be the
exact same game but it feelslike it felt like a different
franchise altogether. So I'm I'mglad he's coming back. But you
know, I will say golf games youknow, you see as beautiful
(35:54):
scenery, the beautiful horses, the great amazing looking
players, you know, just it thegolf games are just like golf on
HD. You know, it benefited fromHD so much. One thing I love
about having those beautifulcourses is being able to take
the pictures. Yeah, in photomode with you know, that's
become such a more common thingthan it used to be like, I
(36:17):
absolutely love photo votinggames. I don't spend a lot of
time playing around with it. ButI love it. So I got the Oh, he
got us thinking he talked aboutthese beautiful golf courses,
this beautiful scenery, and howphoto mode can capture that. But
you've played something recentlythat actually we know we hadn't
talked about we play somethingrecently that didn't have photo
mode. So watch Tell me a littlebit like do you like photo mode?
(36:39):
And do you miss it when it's notthere?
Hick (36:41):
I do like it. I've only
gotten to it recently. And we
did not play this game. I playedthis game boy but um, it was one
of those things like I wouldalways wait until like a
cutscene or something to take totake screenshots and then like
you know, as I start gettingmore and more I started seeing
photo mode mode more and more Ican start to use it a little bit
now. Yeah, I don't get into theall the editing and stuff like
that. I think it's very cool. Ithink it needs to be there
(37:03):
because we see Oh, Joseph Shimawhat people can do if you give
them those creative tools, likesome of the screenshots for
ghosts of Tsushima were amazing.
So I love seeing those so Imean, I'm all about photo it's
not just taking pictures isbeing able to edit the pictures.
Yeah, I don't do it. But thereare the people that know all
this crap that I don't knowlike, you know, photography, and
they know how to make somethinglook good. So I absolutely love
(37:26):
it and social media gets moreand more popular. Sorry, is are
pretty much at the top ofpopularity, but it's a damn
close so far. But no, I actuallylove and that kind of brought me
to this point of like, you know, thinking about games that didn't
have photo mode was sadboy in Yoit's really really frustrating
like I've already had the issueswith the whole PlayStation five
(37:46):
sharing like you know, yeah, usea keyboard. It doesn't download
to the freakin app you know, butlike I want to take so many
photos like you know PlayStationbecause I was so excited for the
system and I get this game thisfirst game sec at their ashes
playroom, screenshots player butit's such a quick game that you
don't take a lot but yes, sagwas all excited. Take all the
(38:07):
screenshots, but there's nophoto mode, and it has the icons
on the screen the entire time, which actually Asher's playroom
did not do that. Like there's alot of moments where the icons
are all off the screen. But youknow, sackboy just puts them
there. They leave them there andlike even I hate taking pictures
I used to do back in the daylike but now like with photo
mode and everything. I hatethose icons I cannot take
(38:29):
pictures with them andeverything so no, I love it. I'm
glad that they haven't and a lotof games but these games that
don't have it even if it's a 3dplatformer where the camera is
fixed, like sackboy like youstill need to put photo mode in
your game but what's youropinions on the whole subject?
Red (38:46):
I completely agree and I'm
with you that I don't spend a
ton of time in there like doingthe editing and filters Yeah,
all this stuff. I know somepeople love that shit though.
And I'm all for it because itmeans the screenshots we get to
see other people post arefucking beautiful. Yes, so I am
all for the tools being thereand one thing like that I do i'd
love that you mentioned theicons being on the screen
(39:07):
because that is annoying andlike anytime back when we were a
little more active on like ourZelda accounts and stuff you
know, we had Instagram andanytime you wanted to post like
a Zelda picture you had to cropout like the health bar, the
Ruby counter, you know, like theuser interface, just the user
interface you had to crop thatout and you can kind of jack up
your pictures a little bit orsometimes you know you couldn't
(39:28):
get it to be too wide
Hick (39:29):
often you get to make like
crop the top crop the bottom
they'd be way wide.
Red (39:32):
So to me just been at the
photo mode alone just for being
able to remove those icons andthe user interface is so clutch
but then like you said you putin the editing to move the
camera around to all love thatmy one of my favorite things
that I saw in cyberpunks photomode was you can change your
pose in whenever you're taking apicture of your character, you
can actually change their poseso you're not stuck in whatever
(39:56):
position you were in when youhit photo mode. Like you could
have like leaning on it. wassitting down, you can change
your facial expressions like soto me. And I think that's been
in a few other games as well.
But so to me, I love that it'sgone beyond just taking a
screenshot, you know, it's somuch more than that. Like I
said, you can really frame andstage a great picture now. So
I'm all for it. I want to seethem continue like making it
(40:19):
more and more powerful. I don'talways take advantage of all the
editing and things like thatbecause like I said, that's not
necessarily our our skill.
That's not my
Hick (40:28):
skill set and read those
black bars during cutscenes
dude. Yes, gaming companies, gaming developers quit doing
this black bar shit. Because thecutscenes are the best time to
take pictures. And when you putthat black bar I got cropped
that out and then once again, mypicture is way too wide. It
doesn't always work out onsocial media platforms. So queer
(40:48):
with the black bars Damon I knowwhat you're trying to do. I knew
try new widescreen like themovies. You're not a fucking
movie your video games of doingthe damn black bars on the GED
sees anyways, photo mode it's animportant concept or component
to gaming and what othercomponents it's always been
important to gaming since thefirst Zelda game is a mechanic
and why the hell are we talkingabout saving? Here's the reason
(41:11):
we are talking about saving andman I don't know where I got
fired up. Like I can justpodcast like I wasn't really
energized I wasn't about doingthis podcast but now I'm just
getting pissed off because oncewe get rolling I lost around
three hours of AC Valhalla. Howthe hell does this happen in
2021 with like cloud saves, because here's the thing It
(41:34):
wasn't like one save that messedup No, we're talking about a
three hour period which I save alot because I don't like redoing
shit. Like I probably saved youknow 10 to 15 times. So it
wasn't one se that went by itwas entire gaming period. I was
like, How the hell does thishappen with cloud saves and
everything? How the hell is mysave file? Not anywhere I clear
(41:55):
a whole damn area. So you knowit just I mean in this day and
age like especially me and youthat don't have a lot of time.
Like this is something that canhonestly break a game because I
was like, you know I'm reallyenjoying AC VA so I'm gonna
bother about other peoplebecause I looked this up online
people losing like 5060 hours ofgameplay I don't really
(42:16):
understand that much. But I knowthat I last couple days like I
played one day by not played theother day. So it was you know, a
couple of days in between plays.
So I don't know exactly how allthat works. But just if it
happens again, I am done withthe game and with the class save
and everything that's going on,like First of all, how about
manual saves didn't work, andthen how the class saves and
work.
Red (42:37):
That is absolutely mind
boggling. That like said it's
not just one save file gotcorrupted. Yeah, whatever. It's
multiple things, multipleissues. And I know you know, we
talked about some of cyberpunksbugs earlier and how glitchy it
was. I know there was a I thinkthere was an issue with saves in
cyberpunk that like if yourinventory had too much crap in
it, so I it's so random. Whatyou and I get coding is not
(43:01):
easy. I completely understandthat. Like creating video games
is not easy, but man says thething we
Hick (43:05):
got to get right. Like
something
Red (43:07):
as fundamental as saving
especially you're talking about
a giant 100 hour open world gamewhere you people might sit down
and play for 23458 hours in arow. And you know, sometimes you
don't think about saving. Yeah, and yes, so it's it's very
frustrating when it happens.
Yeah, you're absolutely right.
I'm the same way as you I hatereplaying games. It's just a
(43:30):
pain in the ass or replayingsections that I shouldn't have
to so I completely with you it's20 fucking 21 let's get this
shit.
Hick (43:38):
Ubisoft Ubisoft wherever
your name is step your game up
and apparently I had this bigupgrade. I think yesterday two
days ago apparently there's thisbug crashing is a game crashing
bug that's feeling that I mean Iknow I know game like you said
game development is hard thereare things that happened but
damn it right you got a 16gigabyte update it better update
(43:58):
that freakin game crashing bugyou yeah so whatever anyways,
read who I am worked up man I'malmost out breath man. Daniela
but also allow me fat you knowso who you want us to wrap up?
