We start with a discussion on the Spider-Man face controversy. Do we hate the change in the PlayStation 5 remaster? Does Peter Parker's new look not bother us that much? Do we prefer the PlayStation 4 version more?

We then dive into Amazon Luna, the new cloud gaming service. Can it be any worse than Google Stadia? How do we feel about game channels? Can it compete with Xbox and PlayStation?

Afterwards, we return to a conversation we had recently, the PS5 pre-order controversy. This issue continues to make news as GameStop Ireland recently said they may not be able to deliver the PS5 until 2021!

Later, we get away from all the negativity and return to something more positive and relaxing, mindless video games. These are the types of video games where we can just shut off our mind and have fun. What are some of our favorites?

We end with a discussion on the market saturation in retro gaming. It seems like so many gamers are fans of it now. Is it just a fad and the cool thing to do? Is it here to last? Do these gamers also play new games?

Hick (00:17):
What's up gamers Welcome to Episode 31 of the Busted
Buttons video game podcast intoday's gonna be a really
interesting podcast because I'mnot ready to go, I'm ready to
go. I'm excited about thisepisode, we're going to talk
about the Spider Man facetransplant, Amazon.

Red (00:35):
way to put it face transplant, I

Hick (00:37):
love some of the pre order controversy still going on with
the PlayStation five. Andthey're all kind of get away
from some of the news and someof the happenings in the gaming
industry. We're gonna talk aboutmindless game breaks, basically
games where you don't have touse a lot of your brain and you
can kind of just get away fromthose heavy and intense games.
And then we're going in on someretro gaming market saturation.

(00:59):
I don't understand why everybodyalmost everybody wants to do all
this retro gaming stuff. I don'tunderstand it. But there's just
too many of you damn people outthere. We're going to talk about
that. But you know, we'll dowhatever makes you happy. I
really don't care that much. Butum, anyways, this is a chart
where I really usually throw itto red, but um, I kind of know
where reds gonna go with this.
So I'm gonna start out heremyself cuz Oh, you're gonna

(01:22):
start off. We talked aboutbefore about how some of you
gamers you just get mad aboutthe stupidest shit out there.
But I gotta say today gamers Istand with you because I kind of
heard about this, but I used toget upset. I didn't get upset
just talking about it. But I hadheard about this, but until read

(01:43):
texted me. I had not seen thismonstrosity of face that they
Insomniac Games is putting inthe Spider Man remaster for the
PlayStation five. And this thingis fucking hideous. And I
usually don't get upset aboutthings like this. But read I
just want to punch this in.

(02:05):
There's gonna be some f bombspeople I usually try to watch
even though because I try towatch my cussing, but I am just
I'm fucking pissed. I don't knowwhy. But I just want to punch
this version of Peter Parker inthe face. Like I can't even buy
this game, because I'm going tobreak my TV. If I buy this game
like this is hideous. It's likeyour explanation is bullshit.

(02:27):
You got like four people thatyou're announcing it in this
explanation? I don't know who'swho who's playing white. But for
some reason you had to do someface transplant because of some
actor changing row or againrecasted but for some reason in
Star Wars Princess Leia, who isfucking dead we actually put her
in the fucking movies, but in avideo game, you can't even put

(02:50):
the same fucking face in it. Andthis guy just is Peter Parker
just looks stupid. I mean is sofar off. I don't know how you
guys could miss this by so muchlike is Mary Mary Jane's gonna
be cheating in this game becausethat's not the same dude. That
was in the 2018 game. Like thisguy cannot handle he looks like

(03:10):
a little teenager like you knowa little baby teenager that just
hit puberty like this guy can'thandle the black cat was asked
what the hell's gonna happenwhen a Hammerhead comes up to
this guy. Like he just lookspitiful. I'm upset and you want
to sit there read and I agreewith you that usually we gamers
usually get worked up aboutstupid shit but gamers they're
upset about this issue. I standwith you today because this

(03:34):
thing is hideous. I'm upset Idon't know how it is some net
gains miss it this much. Andthis is just I'm worked up I'm
worked up right and since I sawthis I go I can't wait this
podcast today because this faceI just like I said I just want
to punch this face. So what's

Red (03:50):
your opinions? Oh, I was just gonna let you go for the
full 45 minutes.
Rolling here for a second. Okay, before before I get going. There
are a couple of things I doagree with you with here first
and foremost. I do think the newface looks stupid. And that is
not an insult to the new facemodel. I think his name is Ben
Jordan. I am not insulting him.
I just think they made him looktoo much like a traditional high

(04:12):
school jock. He reminds me ofAdam the man demand from fucking
workaholics for anyone out therewho's seen that show.

Hick (04:21):
Why do you jump Kubiak I didn't know if his Yuri
loewenthal Rivers name is BenJordan and there was I think
that's the man.

Red (04:29):
But so I do agree. I do not like to change the fucking level
that fans have taken it tothough including you now. so
ridiculous because first andforemost, this is insomniacs
game. It is their property. Muchlike everyone who bitched about
the special edition of Star Warsand all the shit that George
Lucas changed. It's hiscreation. It's his product. He

(04:53):
can do whatever the fuck hewants to do with it. I feel the
same way about Insomniac andlike yes Think their explanation
is a little flimsy and just alittle background what they came
out and said was to get the fullimpact of what they're going for
with the next gen graphics. Theyneeded to get a face model that
more closely matched the guythey used for the facial motion

(05:17):
capture. Now that confused thefuck out of me for a second.
Yeah, so I'm like, wait, so youhave a guy do facial motion
capture and then you slapanother face on top of them and
all of a sudden, we've got afucking Nicolas Cage john
travolta face off situationgoing. And and so they're like,
okay, so we need to find someonewho was a little closer to the
actual motion caption motioncapture actor which was the URI

(05:40):
loewenthal. And if I'mbutchering these names, as
always, we apologize. We're notaccidents. But you know, so he
was the original like motioncapture guys like okay, we need
a face that more closely matcheshim to get the more expressive
look with the next gen. Thatsounds a little flimsy to me. I
can kind of believe it, but itsounds a little flimsy. And I
gotta say when I saw the side byside screenshots, I'm with you.

(06:02):
I prefer the old version. Thatis not my beef. My beef is these
people who are fucking as avocal minority of gamers just
take the littlest slight or thestand up gamers and flip the
fuck out for no reason. I mean, this isn't quite as severe is
the people sending death threatsto the fucking voice actor for

(06:23):
the girl from The Last of Us?
That's a little ridiculous, buteveryone who's like this isn't
my Peter Parker. This isn't myPlayStation four spider man. I'm
like, well fucking good. It's aPlayStation five game now bitch
get over. I just think this wasmuch ado about fucking
absolutely nothing. Hey, if itmakes it look better in terms of
the expressions, the you know, the actual way the face looks

(06:46):
then more power to them. Youknow, take advantage that
fucking PlayStation fivetechnology in I'm actually going
to back on Nintendo instead ofpull a fucking Nintendo and just
put it into a 64 game on theswitch and say that's a fucking
rebound.

Hick (07:00):
Yeah, I was thinking about that today. Yeah,

Red (07:02):
so I mean, it's, it's, you know, see people get worked up
about it. I when I first saw theside by side it I was like, why
would they do this? Like he Idon't like how much they make
him look like a younger likebecause the whole idea was that
he was a bit of a mentor toMiles Morales so he's supposed
to be a little older than mine.
Yeah, def and this fucking guydoes not look older than Miles
Morales but

Hick (07:24):
teenager did that his hip He really looks

Red (07:27):
like but like I said I think the the backlash and well
not as severe as some gamerbacklash we've seen and we've
talked about on the show beforebut it's still Calm the fuck
down everyone to pull an AaronRodgers realize there's much
more worse shit going on in theworld right now that Insomniac
deciding they want to change theface of their character. And

(07:48):
yes, I know it's Marvel'scharacter, or Sony's or whoever
the fuck owns the rights to it.
Yeah, muscle dropping f bombslike crazy. Now I apologize.

Hick (07:54):
I think I'm big more upset because you were expecting my
reaction was why I went worsetoday.

Red (08:01):
So I think you know, hey, if it's worth it for Insomniac,
and they think that it can helpthem make a better, you know,
expressive character, then I'mall for it. I mean, even like
the original motion capture guy,the URI loewenthal has come out
and said, He's like, it's myfault. I'm sorry, I had
different cheekbones. You know,

Hick (08:19):
some tweet like that. So why did he do it again? Was
there a reason?

Red (08:22):
Well, he still did the facial capture, but I guess that
actual Uri loewenthal guys likein his 40s so they can't really
use his actual face. So theyjust did it for the motion
capture, and then put adifferent face model on top of
that motion capture. I didn'tknow that until Yes, whole
controversy blew up. Because Iwas so confused too. I was like,

(08:44):
Wait, isn't it all just Uriloewenthal space like that was
my time? And I'm like wait, didthey totally do like new voice
cat or new facial capture newmotion capture? like no, we just
slapped a different face on it.
And that's what's your life andlike this is some fucking face
off shit. But it's just it'sanother instance I think we're
gamers got a little blown up butand and you know, I get it. We
all become attached to videogame characters. I mean, I'm

(09:06):
guilty of that, too. I love alot of iconic video game
characters. But, man, everyonetake a deep breath. Take a
drink. Chill. No,

Hick (09:15):
no, the thing was I just saw it just made me mad. Like I
don't even know if I have alogical reasons. I'm not a huge
Spider Man fan. I don't I'm notgonna say oh, that's my period.
I'm not even going by the gamebecause I've already played it.
But like, No, I'm not saying sayoh, that's my Peter Parker
everything. All I know is that Isaw this guy's face and I wanted
to punch it and I knew that wasnot a good thing for me. But I

(09:37):
kind of said you know what? thata lot of times we were kind of
more calm. We don't get workedup about this stuff. But I don't
know. I saw it in like, this isnot going from the PlayStation
two to the PlayStation four.
Like if you're like increasingthe graphics that much then I
understand a face lookingdifferent. But you look at the
like comparison which you know,I've said before, do 4k over
like YouTube or like, you know, the internet is Not as good as

(09:59):
you're going to see it on 4k HDRTV. So the game will look better
than it looks in like the IGNcomparison, or whatever. But
just like it was so far off andso different to me, it almost
feels like you're playing adifferent character. Yeah, for a
remaster game I've really notreally, I know, I went off, but

(10:19):
I don't really care that much.
Because like I said, I'm notbuying the game, but it's so far
off to me. Like it does feellike you're playing a whole
different character. And I just, you know, they could go with all
the bullshit. Like, there's someunderlying reason for why this
happened. Somebody didn't likesomething, somebody ran into an
issue or whatever it is,

Red (10:38):
you know what it was they wanted to look more like Tom
fucking Hall and

Hick (10:42):
that's exactly fine. And that's fine, but didn't come out
and say that, but this issomething like do it in the next
game. Like you don't need to doin a remaster. So for me? Yeah,
I mean, you know, I am workedabout I'm not gonna lie. Now. I
don't care as much as like, youknow, I'm not gonna death
threats, or anything. I

Red (10:58):
don't care that much. No game, no game or ever. Shoot.
That's Yeah,

Hick (11:01):
but like, I mean, they just made it look so different.
It's just like, Why? Because thegraphics aren't going to look
that much different. They aregoing to look better on the PS
five versus four, four, butthey're not gonna look that much
different. So to make a change, like this huge, it's just like,
you should have known this wascoming. It was going to come
because you may. It's just Idon't know, man. I saw I was

(11:22):
like, This is so bad. That I'mnot gonna I'm not gonna go easy.
It was like Mayor Osborne son tobe honest with you. Like the
first thing that I thoughtbecause, you know, let's not
let's be honest, he's not thenot the best, in my opinion, the
best looking guy meraas boardand I saw this, you know, I just
like he looks he looks exactlylike his son, which now feel bad
because Mayor Osborne son was inthat, you know, cryogenic

(11:44):
chamber or Oh, yeah, you know, saying that, but that's you It
looks like that's exactly who itlooks like. But, you know, I
guess we'll kind of move on. Ijust, I had to go first, because
I knew I had rain. I knew youwere expecting me to have a rant
about it. Oh, no, I didn't.

Red (12:00):
I think we both had a pretty good rant line. Yeah,
just to

Hick (12:03):
be more upset. But anyways, you guys are changing
something that might get mixedfeelings. Amazon recently came
out with their new cloud gamingservice called Amazon Luna rice,
which I was really pissed offabout first because I thought it
was a I thought the characterfor Mario was Luna and they did
some research they found thatwas actually Luma so I thought
they were still Nintendocharacter. This is some bullshit

(12:27):
right here. I don't know how toget away with this. But um, I'll
go ahead I'll throw to you.
What's your overall opinions ofthe Amazon Luna and the whole
announcement?

Red (12:35):
Well, my first reaction a I'd kind of even forgot that it
was something that they hadannounced. I honestly until I
saw it, like you're kind ofcomments in your notes here. I'm
like, What the fuck is Amazon?
Like? Oh, yeah, yeah, I guessthey are kind of getting into
the streaming service. But myfirst impression is, Oh, god,
it's gonna be Google stadia. 2.0Yeah, I mean, it's just because
we've said, companies likeMicrosoft companies like Google,

(12:58):
and companies like Amazon, havethe infrastructure I feel like
to do this right. And Google'sface planted so poorly. And I
know I'm ragging on stadia andwe're supposed to be talking
about Luna but it's just

Hick (13:10):
they're always allowed to rag on stadia. I don't care if
we're talking about like a SuperMario World game, Super Mario
World, you can rag on Googlestay, right. I know where to be,

Red (13:20):
I will find a reason to but just to me, it just that that
lifts such a bad initial tasteto streaming. I don't know,
guys, yeah, one of the videothings may have been before
whatever. But it's just now Isee one and I just roll my eyes,
like x cloud, I have a littlemore faith because they're
building it into the Xbox.
They're building it into gamepass, like

Hick (13:38):
Microsoft makes video games and console,

Red (13:40):
right. And they're bringing it along very slowly. Like it
was in like a beta phase forever just so people could try it
and try it for free. You know,he's had to get used to apply
for an invitation. So now I seeanother company granted, Amazon
also has a massive online, you've got Amazon Web Services,
they've got the servers, they'vegot the infrastructure to do it.

(14:01):
I just I just can't imagine thatit's any worse than it's No, no,
but but I've been surprisedbefore so I'm, I'm cautiously
optimistic. Like it's just I youknow, it's coming to the fire
TV. It's coming to PCs coming toApple right now, it's not coming
to Android, but it will be downthe line. You know, it's got its

(14:22):
own controller just like stadiajust like everything else. So
it's, it's one of those whereI'm like, Okay, another
competitor is not a bad thing.
You know, I think competition.
We talked about this, like withthe exclusives for the consoles,
like I think the competition isa good thing. It's another
service and if it works, thengreat but what really kind of
caught my eye on it is thiswhole like they're talking about

(14:44):
doing gaming channels yousubscribe to they're gonna have
their own Luna plus, which islike the base. I think it's 599
while they're in the beta, justthe base channel and it has just
got decent lineup of games.
Yeah. You know, control somegames like that. So some big
third party games, and thenthey're going to have it sounds
like starting with Ubisoft, they're going to have different

(15:07):
channels for like different. I'mnot sure it's going to be
developers. I think obviouslywith Ubisoft, it's obviously a
developer. But then they evenmentioned something like
different genres would havetheir own channel. So yeah,
that's what really stood out tome. What did you think of that
particular approach they'retaking? It seems a lot different
from stadia or from x cloud.

(15:27):
What do you think of thischannels you subscribe to?

Hick (15:30):
I mean, I guess I would really hate to see it in play
like you know, exactly. Okay. Soyou have this channel you
subscribe or whatever. And youto me like why do you need a
channel? Like you just put thegames on the platform and you
play them? So like, I don'tunderstand like, exactly. Okay,
this Ubisoft channels just gonnahave I'm thinking that
Assassin's Creed is Ubisoft.
Right?

Red (15:47):
Yep. Okay.
Are there other really big one?
So but yeah, so like,

Hick (15:53):
Okay, first of all, like, you might read more, but like,
what exactly is this chip? Like?
Is it just gonna be the games onthis separate channel? And do
you have to pay more for that?

Red (16:01):
Well, if it's anything like like Amazon Prime, and I know
I'm, I think you've got prime.
But yeah, you actually watch theshows. Like you can get, you
know, you pay your basic, youknow, 1015 bucks a month, but
you can get like the HBO Yeah, for a premium, you can get stars
or Showtime. Okay. So I assumeit's gonna be like that. Like
you said, the basic Luna pluswill be the six bucks a month or

(16:21):
whatever. And I'm guessing eachchannel on top of that has its
own price unless, unless thepublisher so here

Hick (16:29):
we go again, with all the damn description or
subscriptions. Okay, so we gotGoogle stadia, and we got you
know, Amazon loon, okay? Is itokay, so you got subscribe not
to both of those. But let's justlet's get out control already.
And then you name is on Luna, and then you get subscribed to
this one to play this game, thisone to play this game, all of a
sudden, again, 5555 all theselittle ticks in tax, right?

(16:49):
Doing that shit. For videosubscriptions, like, peacock,
I'm looking at you, you put abunch of Premier League games on
the very first week, I saidDamn, I got by this. So I'll go
out and buy a good job. Goodjob, you got my money, they got
so sick of these little $5 hitshere and there because
everybody's taking their ownproperties. You know, I

(17:09):
understand. But these likeplatforms like Netflix and like,
you know, Hulu, they're losingeverything and so much like but
they don't go down price theystay the exact same price. And
then all these other people likepeacock ABC, I don't know who
all has one yet, but it is allaccess. Yeah, well, they're
gonna take all their properties.
They're gonna make you pay, youknow, usually around five bucks,
maybe 10 to watch their shows ontheir platforms. And so this is

(17:33):
exactly and this is where thiswhole cloud gaming like I
understand that yes, it is afuture but how many people are
going to get involved which ismy first problem like okay x
Xbox getting involved I inMicrosoft, I understand
PlayStation with PlayStation nowunderstand they make video games
and they make console so forthem to get into this cloud
gaming space makes sense? Youdidn't hear comes everybody else

(17:56):
want a piece of the pie? GoogleAmazon and they all got their
own controllers and theircontrollers are shit the Amazon
Luna like that's so damn blank.
Like that's just a boringcontroller. There's a little bit
purple in it which I'm not bigpurple fan but that Oh cool. At
least are going with a littlebit different code stands out
Yeah, at least it stands out butthat can charge us blah you know

(18:18):
there's there's really nothingto it has the offset joysticks
for red over there?

Red (18:22):
Hell yeah. Sorry. It's already better than the
DualShock

Hick (18:25):
I don't mind I mean, I do like offset joysticks. But I
don't mind the DualShockcontrollers there is the the
PlayStation controllers is whyI'm saying if you don't know,
but yeah, I'm just yeah, it'sgetting out of control with you
know, then we're going okay, here's what's going to happen.
Ubisoft gonna be on Amazon. Andthen you're going to have what's
in Game Studios, Sucker PunchI'm playing goes to Tsushima
right now, yeah, they'll be onGoogle. Nobody's gonna be on

(18:48):
Google stadia. They're gonna beon another one. So you got to
pay for Google stadia, you wantto pay for x cloud, you got to
pay for Amazon, you have to getup South over here, you're gonna
get Sucker Punch over here, you'll get the rock star over
here. And it's just, it's amodel that it's just it's going
to work out eventually. But it'snot going to work out in the
beginning. Because to me, peoplewant to get in on this. They

(19:11):
understand that the gamingindustry is billions of dollars,
and it's not gonna go wellfirst. It's just not. It's
probably a long time I thinkbecause of what I'm saying. But
um, I don't know. Go ahead, man.

Red (19:22):
I will say like, I'm, I'm glad you brought up the point of
like, Okay, if I want to playthis game, I've got to have this
service. If I want to play thisgame, I've got to have this
service. Because you're exactlyright. We've seen that happen
with television. If you want towant you know, you've got amazon
prime exclusives, you've gotNetflix original content, you've
got Hulu original, and HBO, Maxor whatever the hell it's like

(19:43):
they all have their own contentor their own like they're each
aligned to a streaming service.
And so far, and I know we'revery early in the video game
streaming process. I that thathasn't happened with third party
games yet. It seems like youknow, games like control stuff
like that. They want to be on asmany. And I keep saying control
because that's one of the bigones that Luna was showing off
and everything I read, but itseems to be available in several

(20:07):
places, which is good. Like, that's it

Hick (20:10):
till somebody pays them to be on one. That's the

Red (20:13):
biggest thing. It's like when HBO bought the rights for
fucking, you know, Seinfeld, orwhatever it was whoever whoever
who learns which do and then soit's like, I'm worried that as
these different streamingservices mature and get a little
further along, we are, they'regonna realize, okay, we have a

(20:34):
stable thing, it works. Nowlet's start getting that content
to get the subscribers andthat's when they're gonna start
spending big money. We alreadysee it with Sony, and with
Microsoft buying up developersto have exclusives on their
consoles. If that makes sense, though, you know, I agree. I
agree how long until thestreaming services start paying?

(20:54):
Ubisoft or Bethesda? Well, Iknow that this is now in bed
with it with Microsoft. Butyeah, like said Rockstar, what
are these huge companies? Whathappens when Amazon says here's
$5 billion, or whatever? Yeah, you're only going to be on Luna,
you're not going to be on xcloud, you're not going to be on
PlayStation. Now. You're notgonna be on stadia. Like, at
some point. It's just I do thinkthat's going to happen. And

(21:17):
because we saw it happen withvideo streaming, where these big
streaming companies startedthrowing the money around and
saying, okay, I want you to beexclusive to Netflix. I want you
to be exclusive to Hulu,whatever.

Hick (21:28):
So I do think NBC came back and said we want our own
properties back

Red (21:32):
right exactly that like CBS started CBS all access for their
own shit. So your I, my one goodthought to all this is I don't
think that many companies cansustain a video game streaming
service. Like I feel like videostreaming just about every media
company can kind of do it orYeah, like regular video

(21:53):
streaming. Yeah, streaming videogames is I feel like a much it
seems like a much moredifficult.

Hick (21:59):
Yeah. And we already have four of them.

Red (22:01):
Right? And but I don't think there's that many more
companies that could pull itoff. like Google has the server
infrastructure and the Amazon,Microsoft, Sony, I know nividia
kind of tried it and that, youknow, then they fucked up all
their agreements with

Hick (22:15):
a little bit different cuz they're mostly they are PC
actually, I think they mighthave like, in some parts and
like consoles, or whatever. I'mnot really sure. But there was

Red (22:23):
a hardware developer in general, as opposed to the
software side of things. So I Ido think eventually, there's
just not going to be that manyat least in America. I mean, a
worldwide you know, companieslike 10 cent, it's the huge
gaming company over in China, stuff like that could probably
pull something off. But like, Ido think eventually there's just
not going to be that manycompanies. Yeah, have the server

(22:43):
and in web infrastructure to dothis.

Hick (22:47):
Like figure it out. It's gonna get cheaper to get

Red (22:49):
market. That is the flip side. That is the flip side. So
I'm Luna. Like I said, it's await and see. Just like all the
streaming tech it very much is await and see for me. Yeah, I
mean, I'm

Hick (22:59):
more excited about that than I am Google stadia, though

Red (23:01):
Well, that's, that's a pretty fucking low bar for sure.
But it just to me, I'm justlike, you know, if it works
great, I'm happy you know, andif they price these, like
individual channels, let's saythey're, they're three bucks a
pop or whatever, once you getpast the initial $6,
subscription, whatever you priceit at, and you can kind of pick
and choose a little bit. I'm notI don't I like that concept.

(23:22):
It's better than studies wherehe sucks. You have to pay for
the fucking full game. Yeah, itwas just the dumbest idea. Yeah,
Xbox, in my opinion, has thebest solution where it's all
wrapped up in game pass. LikeThat is amazing. So and that's
not just me being an Xboxfanboy. But you know, in my
opinion, that's their, like, bigselling point. So I'm really
curious to see if it works out.
It all does come down to a doesit work and be how's the pricing

Hick (23:45):
and here's my problem with it. They had this like they say
they had this multi antenna thatallows for uninterrupted Wi Fi
for lower latency, which isbasically gives you the ability
to move from like a screen to ascreen. This ain't gonna work,
man. Like that's a problem, right? When we play my PC, then
all of a sudden switch to myiPad, then my iPhone, that is

(24:06):
not going to work smoothly.
That's gonna crash and burn. Weall know that. But anyways, why
Amazon's announcement of thecloud gaming coming into the
cloud game market might beexciting for some gamers. We
know one thing that's notexciting for any gamers or

Red (24:21):
GameStop we're coming from

Hick (24:24):
GameStop here we come. But um, the pre or controversy for
the ps4 skins is teenis Amazonfinds itself in the middle. But
let's just go ahead and get intothis. Let's go ahead start
ripping GameStop red what's yourwhole pens on just how this PS
five pre order controversy justkeeps on going.

Red (24:42):
It's not very often we get a podcast these days where we
get to bash on GameStop and on astreaming service, but we are in
luck today. We've already bashon Amazon. And don't worry
Amazon, you're not off the hookyet. We're gonna get you again.
But now we finally mean Googlestadia

Hick (24:57):
or we also bash on Google stadia. Now Amazon,

Red (25:01):
all the above streaming services in general not named x
cloud. Sorry, there's aboutfanboy show when again, I'm
sorry. But no. So like youmentioned, there's a lot of
these PlayStation fivecontroversies coming up. And I
knew things were a little bit ofa mess when the pre orders first
went live, just because that's alot of demand server, you know,

(25:22):
the the storefronts, things likethat aren't necessarily ready to
handle all getting slammed atthe same time, like GameStop was
doing like online cues. Youknow, Playstation was telling
some people it was available, but not others. So the whole
thing was a little bit of a shitshow from the get go. But that
should show from the get go.
There you go. Now it sounds likethere's still continuing issues.

(25:42):
And I honestly, because I'm notdoing the pre order thing. I
hadn't read too much into someof these other issues, just
because I'm like, I'm taking mychances on release day. So when
you kind of brought up a coupleof these issues, I'm like, holy
shit, there's some seriousissues going on. So I'm actually
going to kind of kick it back toyou. And you know, kind of take
us through kind of what'shappening a little bit, and then

(26:02):
we'll get to bashing.

Hick (26:05):
Yeah, well, we've already talked about this, I think in
the last episode, or like, youknow, one of the later episodes
we have talked about this. Yeah, the only reason that I put on
the outline was because ofGameStop. Man, I saw GameStop I
go Yep, outline. We're puttingit on there. But um, there's
this target. I know, we alreadyknow what's going on. But like I
said, GameStop appeared. I waslike, yo, yo, know us, we like

(26:26):
to bash on GameStop. We like tobash on stadia. And here it goes
GameStop. Again, they're Irelandcompany or branches, wherever
you want to call it. Like, youknow, they're expecting, like
they're telling customers whopre ordered not to expect their
console until 2021. And this issomething that only GameStop
could pull off, man. Like, ifyou're not gonna get like day

(26:46):
one or day two, like Amazon, ormaybe even a week later, you
know, or a couple weeks later, okay, maybe Okay, I'm upset. But
I understand. But there's loads.
Yeah. GameStop Ireland, sayingthat you're not gonna get the
consoles until 2021. That'salmost two months later, and you
wouldn't use this. This isunfathomable. How does something
like this happen? And the answeris always Not always. Usually

(27:10):
GameStop? Yes.

Red (27:15):
They are a good safe answer.

Hick (27:17):
Yeah. But you know, and then also, you know, we get the
whole, like I said, the wholeAmazon thing, saying they're not
gonna be there, like, you know, release day in, you know, for me
and you. I don't think that's abig deal. Because as we know, in
you all gamers that are younger, you will experience this, and
you get like, you know, olderand older, you get busier and
busier and busier. I don'treally know. I still can't

(27:38):
figure it out. I don't havereally any more shiftable I got
kids now. But other than that, like, you don't have that much
more to do than when you wereyounger. But for some reason, he
just busier and like just goesfaster. So for us that get
console for one or two thingslike one or two days. We got
shit to do.

Red (27:54):
We're gonna be it's not the end of the world. Yeah.

Hick (27:57):
But that's not the way for a lot of gamers. A lot of gamers
do one day one I don'tunderstand because I still
wanted day one. I'm just like, not going to get as upset is
like, you know, some of youwhich I say I understand this
one. I do understand how you getupset about this. So I'm okay.
thing. Just it just sucks inlike, you knew this was gonna
happen? Yeah, with every singleconsole. That's why the

(28:19):
communication needs to bebetter. The sisters need to be
better. You need to know, hey, this server store GameStop is
getting this many systems, right? That's how many you put
up for pre order. Like thisshit. isn't that hard? Is

Red (28:32):
that what happened? Did they offer too many pre orders?
And they don't have the stock tofill them? Or was

Hick (28:37):
that that's what I would guess like if you're saying to
give him a tooth out until 2021?
Like you took more pre orders, then you have like two delivery
doesn't take two months, youknow? No, unless you're like on
a swing set for your kids orsomething like that. It wasn't
actually a Swimsuit Issuelately, where something just

(28:57):
took Oh, it was the exercisebike, the exercise bike. Here, I
was like 2020. That doesn't makeany sense. But anyways, a
console should not take twomonths to get there. So this
taken you two months, you took apre order for a console that you
technically will physicallyyou're not gonna have your hands
because it's right out yet. Butfor a console that you did not
have. So it's just continuing onGameStop it's like

Red (29:21):
Seinfeld, you know how to take the reservation. You don't
know how to hold the recipe isthe most important

Hick (29:29):
part, taking the reservation.

Red (29:32):
So no, I that's the logical explanation in my mind is that
they took too many reservations, reservations now. I'm laughing
at Seinfeld. Yeah, too many preorders that they weren't
prepared to handle. And that Imean, that could have been a
simple computer error or thatfucked up or I mean, it's a lot
of things can go into that. Iget that but it just shows you
the continued incompetence ofGameStop in general. Now the

(29:55):
Amazon situation surprises me alittle bit. I know there are a
lot of instances where peoplepre order A game and maybe it
shows up the next day. It showsup one day after release early
or or the day early like I gotwith Mario 3d AllStars that was
a nice surprise. But no for melike I got the last of us part
two a day late and you know, butI was busy with other shit. I

(30:15):
didn't get to touch it any I'mstill playing it so I'm not too
complacent,

Hick (30:19):
why you guys should go all digital, you

Red (30:23):
say it makes it great when the girlfriend's giving you a
gift. Okay, yeah, that's true.
That's true, but no, it's justit. So the Amazon one day thing
doesn't bother me quite as much.
Now if you're a person who, youknow, makes money off reviewing
these things off testing themout, whether it's, you know,
actually through one of the likebig websites, or you know, it's

(30:43):
your blog, it's your YouTubechannel, it's your Twitch,
stream, whatever. And you'rerelying on that, and you don't
get that product in your handday one, then that I can see
where people can get jinyabecause that's affecting your
business that's affecting yourincome stream, if your last to
show up something off, and it'sjust like, hey, it's just like
the news. The first is alwaysthe first to the story. Not that

(31:05):
not not who's the most accurateis the one who gets lucky

Hick (31:08):
as your business model, get another business model.
That's my that's my advice.

Red (31:12):
We also put up one video, every sick. Yeah.

Hick (31:16):
But it's like you just like talking about right now is
too stressful to me, like yourincome to be through YouTube.
And there's a lot of otherthings, your taxes are higher,
you got paid for your healthinsurance, your lawyer is not
paying part of your taxes. Sothere's a lot of other things
behind the scenes. But I mean,it's exactly right. I mean, if
you are one day late hits theseYouTubers, like you really know

(31:37):
I say, you know, get differentday job, like this is what they
do. And you gotta respect thatthat is how they make their
money. So I mean, yeah, you cansay or say, oh, here's some
advice, do something different.
But at the same time that youalso do have to respect them,
because that is their income.
That's how they pay for things, whether it's family kids
insurance, or just you know, whatever, you know, game but I

(31:59):
but

Red (31:59):
I do understand from Amazon's standpoint, though,
it's, you can't get every singlething, like, delivered to every
single part of the country. Itwas on can well, they try. They
didn't try but

Hick (32:12):
especially their debit. We don't GameStop can't do that
shit.

Red (32:16):
Oh, GameStop apparently can't get it to you till 2021.
So no,

Hick (32:19):
no. Yeah, that's true.

Red (32:21):
Sorry, Ireland. So to me, it just, it cracks me up. I do
get it that from Amazon, it istough, especially if you live in
a more rural area where youdon't have the distribution
center close by I mean, we'relucky in our city, that we have
a distribution center. I mean,it's we get shipped pretty
quick. Yeah, sometimes a day inadvance, which is awesome. But

Hick (32:41):
yeah. But

Red (32:42):
I do understand kind of on Amazon site, but at least
they're saying you'll get it thenext day. They're not they're
not saying you're not getting itfor fucking two months. Like
that just blows my mind. It willit would blow my mind, then you
say the magic word GameStop. Andit no longer blows my mind. It's
just it's, they are just thedevil for everything.

Hick (33:00):
I said, you know, we did talk about this recently. But
then GameStop came up I had toput on the album. But anyways,
you know, sometimes y'all seethis right now, sometimes, US
gamers, we just need a breakfrom all the crap. We're just
mentally exhausted. We'rementally exhausted on this
podcast, like we had been workedup, folks. And we were not
playing. While I was playing andworked up at the beginning, I

(33:23):
was not planning on itcontinuing all the way through
the pockets has been verynegative. So let's step back a
little bit. And let's dosomething like let's talk about
mindless video games. And theseare basically just video games
where either you're stressedout, you're mentally exhausting.
They don't take a lot of likeconcentration. They don't take a
lot of brainpower. You just turnthem on. They're very simple.

(33:44):
And you just play them. And Ireally think it takes gaming
back to just being fun. So readI kind of went through to you
right here. What are some ofthose mindless games that you
like?

Red (33:54):
Well, to me, it's like every now and then you just you
need a palate cleanser. You needsomething like maybe you
mentioned like, either you'restressed out whatever. Or maybe
you've been playing a game thatis like very deep or tense. You
know, you've got your games likethe last of us, things like
that, where it's very, liketheir emotional games, and
they're stressful games to play.
And every now and then you needthat palate cleanser, just to be

(34:17):
like, who I need something I canshut my brain off and just go
and yeah, it made me reallythink of this is that you had
mentioned something about youliked having Mario Mario
Sunshine in this particularinstance, as like a second game
you're playing while you'replaying other games because it
kind of gives you even thoughI'm not saying you can just shut
your brain off for like these 3dMario games, because there's

(34:38):
still some challenge to it. Butyou know, it's it's you can
Yeah, or I got

Hick (34:43):
that but go ahead. But you know, it

Red (34:46):
lets you kind of take a refresh. And for me, and this is
kind of weird, cuz it's actuallya puzzle game that makes you
think like I go back to totesTreasure Tracker quite a bit
because I haven't beaten everychapter yet. I've gotten to Most
of them but I haven't beaten allof them so every now and then,
if I just want something casualsomewhere I can just you still
got to think a little bit butyou're not like running from

(35:08):
enemies or stealthily sneakingthrough the place you're just
trying to get from point A topoint B. collect a few diamonds
along the way boom. You know, Itoad treasure tracker is one
that I go to a lot and before Ibeat it for the damn second
time, Mario Odyssey was one thatI love picking up and being
like, because there's again, there's 880 unique moons in that
game, you know, you could pickthat game up play for just a few

(35:32):
minutes grab a moon or to see itmaybe unlock a new world
whatever and then just put itback down. And you're totally
fine like I loving I love havingMario games in general because
the especially the 3d ones, yeah, where you just pick it up,
grab a couple stars grab acouple power moons depending on
the game you're playing.
And then you're good.

(35:52):
You're good. So I know it seemslike I've been harping on like
Nintendo being the one thatreally gives us some of those
you know, relax palate cleansertype games, but they're great at
it. They're great at the smalldoses. Yeah, so for me whenever
I need just to calm down for afew minutes, you know, get that
like you said refresh my brain alittle bit. I reach for
something like that where you'retrying to collect stars, you're

(36:14):
trying to meet a chapter. Whatabout

Hick (36:16):
you though? Well, first of all, treasure tracker is a game
where you do have to use yourbrain but you do I do understand
what you're trying to say rightthere. It's kind of back to our
whole complaint about like, youknow, Nintendo not releasing
enough games on the switch likeTreasure Tracker was a remake or
a remaster Deluxe whatever youwant to call it like they've had
like Yeah, we got Super Mario 3dAll Stars and I'm so happy we'll

(36:38):
talk about this but um, TreasureTracker like we could get a new
we can get Treasure Tracker toDamon Nintendo and red is right
why you do use your brain issomewhat Yeah, you gotta use
your brain but it is a mindlessgame. I don't know exactly how
to you got play it it's rightthere. relaxing. It's a fun and
relaxing game. So Nintendo giveus Treasure Tracker too because

(37:00):
I need more mindless gamesbecause like Red said we are
basically talking Nintendo hereyour Mario games your 3d Mario
games like they're just great togo into grab a star grab a shine
grab a power moon. Love that andalso I'm gonna go to racing
games for a quick second justright Yes, they're great for
that. You know your Forza yourgrand tour is most I don't

(37:20):
really like the arcade racinggames so much because they're
not well real. Yeah. My carshandle not how they're supposed
to handle so I'm more of a realracing simulator kind of guy.
Like I said, your forces, yourGran Turismo so those are also
great, but going back to Marionow like those 3d worlds like
are 3d games. Yeah, like you cango and just grab something

(37:41):
really quickly. Yeah, here therego open up a new land and really
kind of extending on that. Ithink 3d platformers as a whole
are great this Yeah, they does.
3d platformers for the most partaren't that difficult except for
sunshine? I don't know what iswith fucking sunshine man. Like
borrow games like they'reusually challenging, but I am
struggling with sunshot so Ihope everybody else out there

(38:05):
like the platforming is likejust ridiculous like it's it is
nerve racking. But it'sexciting. It's rewarding but I
am struggling with thedifficulty This is the hardest
Mario game that I've everplayed. So I don't know who that
sounds much sunshine is likefits into this category of
mindless fun relaxing gamesbecause I'm stressing the fuck
out playing Super Mario Sunshinebut

Red (38:29):
that same thought where you just go in you grab a couple
things and you get back out likeI'm glad you mentioned racing
games because those are greatfor he's going to circle where
you can spend a little time likeyou said on the more realistic
ones like in your garage justtrying to tweak things a little
bit.

Hick (38:44):
You know, maybe you do more than going circles though.
Read you go ride racks are y'allcurvy and stuff? I know bash on
my Forza my Gran Turismo is man,

Red (38:52):
I'm not I'm not but you get what I mean. But you know so and
and this is a kind of funny onethat I think because it is a
game that can be a littleintense, but I treat like the
Call of Duty games not onlinebecause fuck online gaming at
this age in my life, but likethe campaign's they kind of get
bagged on quite a bit becausethey are they are the equivalent
of the summer blockbuster. Lotsof explosions, lots of loud

(39:15):
noises, not a lot of substancein general, just you know, get
from point A to point B shoot asmany people as you can very
cinematic like to me, I'mactually a fan every now and
then if I want something kind ofmindless of just firing up a
call of duty like one of thesingle player campaigns and it
is intense from the standpointthat you're in firefights.
You're trying to snipe or you'retrying to do whatever but at the

(39:37):
same time, like I said, it isjust like going to the movie
theater and watching a summerblockbuster. You don't have to
think too hard about point shootrun. That's basically all there
is to the Call of Duty games andthat you know it works. They're
one of the most successfulfranchises in history and you
know, every now and then you'rejust firing up one of their
little six to eight hour singleplayer campaigns. Yeah, is a

(39:57):
great way to break up. You know, you Put 100 hours into, you
know, an Assassin's Creed game, you put 200 hours into a witcher
game, whatever it is gettingthat little six to eight hour
break, even though it is a moreintense game, I still look at
that as almost a bit of a palatecleanser, like I said, just like
a summer blockbuster would bebut, you know, we talk a lot
about mindless games likedifficulty and things like that.

(40:20):
And you mentioned this, likeback in the day, games were not
simple. They were very toughthese, especially these 2d
platformers. Man, they were afucking struggle, and they're
still hard today. They stillare. And that's kind of what we
wanted to get at. You know, itseems like this whole and I
know, we've touched on retrogaming in prior episodes, you
know, back earlier in our in ourhistory. But you know, it seems

(40:42):
like retro gaming is stillreally, really popular, whether
it's people remaking old games,or just making new games in the
same style as the old games. Butyou know, what, what are your
kind of thoughts on this wholeretro gaming craze? Is it
something that you get into? Oris you suddenly kind of shake
your head and say, What the hellis going

Hick (41:00):
on? So what it is, is the markets oversaturated if you're
a content creator, or thinkingabout being a content creator,
do not get into retro gaming, because everybody out there is
doing retro grimy, retro gaming, there's no niche there is the
niche is full, but um, I don'tknow. And the reason I kind of
like came across this because onTwitter, like, you know, I just
see, like, you know, a lot ofpeople talk to some people, you

(41:21):
know, I sees profiles, andeverything a lot of is just
whether tweets be retro gaming,or their profile be retro
gaming. There's just a lot ofgaming. That is retro gaming.
And for me, yeah, like, it'ssomething that

Red (41:36):
I prefer, take a drink of your beer there and then take a
second No, I look at, and Ithink we are in an age that is
very ripe for retro gaming, because Yeah, I think so many
people got into gaming in theearly to mid 80s, with the
Atari, regular NES. And thosepeople are now us, you know,
we're now in our 30s. andenjoying, you know, we still

(41:59):
think back very fondly on thoseold games. So I think there's
definitely a market there forbecause now we're the people
with disposable income. Yeah,we're the people that are like
going out and buying thesegames, or in some people's
cases, trying to get their kidsinto it now. And we want them to
experience what gaming was likeback when we had to deal with
it. Not when you could just fireup fucking fortnight on your

(42:20):
damn iPhone. Well, not that youcan do that right now. Because
that whole legal battle. Yeah, that's a whole different story.
But so I think the market isvery ripe for it just because of
the age that we as people whogrew up in the 80s, as gainers
were now the ones spending themoney. So now that hopefully
you've recovered from COVID

Hick (42:41):
to throw it to you, but thanks for coming in. But for
me, like, I just wonder, is itkind of like a fad? Like, it
seems like it's kind of the coolthing to do. And that's what
bothers me about it like, Okay,if you're really like, you know,
in the retro gaming andeverything. And my first
question is, are these retrogamers like new gamers? Or are
they only strictly retro gaming?
And, like, yeah, I understand, like, yeah, there's an
established element to goingback. And playing past games.

(43:03):
Like, that's really fun. That'sreally cool. But just to me, I
don't know sometimes I'm just,I'm concerned, like, are you
just doing it? Because everybodyelse is doing it? Or like, you
know, that call, like, you know, gamers, or retro gamers fake,
but like, you know, are you justtrying to fit in with the crowd?
Like I said, He's trying to becool and stuff. And it's just,
there's just so much of it outthere. Where, like, there's so

(43:24):
much new gaming, that is good.
That is a lot of fun to play.
There is a I'm trying to figureout why everybody's into retro
gaming. And these new indietitles, you could kind of say,
you know, the door styles arelike retro gaming, but they're
different. They're more based ingames. Were back in the day,
more user friendly these days.

(43:46):
Wow.
Yeah, made user friendly, butthey're still difficult, but I'm
looking at you, like bashing byear or anything like that. I'm
just saying, sometimes I wonderif it's just the cool thing that
fed in, you know, like, I don'tknow, man. Getting on it. I just
think the market is saturated.
Yeah, like to me people talkabout to me content creators
trying to do it. And my questionat the end of the day is, is are

(44:06):
you actually in the retrogaming? Do you care about those
80s and 90 games? Or are youjust doing it to try to be cool,
and that's the part that bothersme. And

Red (44:17):
I think a lot of it is following the fad. I mean, you
said that with streamingwhenever the next big game comes
up on Twitch people jump to it,if like, let's say one of the
most popular streamers in theworld, like when like using
ninja is an example jumped fromtwitch to mixer or whatever the
hell he jumped to, like peoplefollow that. Yeah, I get that
because you know it now thatpeople are like, oh, retro is

(44:40):
starting to get popular orthey're starting to, you know,
be successful again. We got tofollow that we got to get bad.
Well, it's like all the fuckingBattle Royale games that came
out as soon as, like, playgroundknowns, battlegrounds? And then
fortnight became popular.
Everyone in their fucking motherhad a battle royale. Yeah. So
it's like it's one of thosewhere it's like, part of it is
definitely people following thefad. I Do think part of it is
people, like I said, being Rhwho remember when that's all

(45:02):
games wereYeah. And it's fun to go back.
So I'm, I'm curious, see howlong it holds up though I'm
absolutely

Hick (45:10):
with you. But if you're like 20, and you say you're a
retro gamer you're playing, you're like, no, that's not
retro gaming man. But as usual,we've actually,

Red (45:18):
not only we run out of time, we've gone over by a
minute. So let's go and wrapthings up here. All the links
