(00:00):
Welcome to Caffeinated Chaos, where business deals happen
between diaper changes andfriendships are fueled by
caffeine.
I'm Whitney GaN, your host, andI'm here to talk all things
business parenthood, and ofcourse keeping up with the BFFs,
whether you're juggling theboardroom, the playroom, or just
here for some coffee fuel chaos.
We've got you covered.
Get ready for real talk, laughsand a whole lot of heart as we

(00:24):
dive into the beautiful messthat is entrepreneurship,
parenthood, and everything inbetween.
So let's embrace the chaostogether.
Ated, of course.
You know that awkward momentwhen someone hands you a
business card and you have noidea what to do with it?
Here's the thing.
Even in this hyper digitalworld, business cards are not

(00:47):
dead.
They're just evolving.
Okay?
So my company GaN Studios, weprint business cards so people
can submit they're designs tous.
We print them, we have differentoptions, and somebody was like,
should I get business cards?
I feel like nobody uses businesscards anymore, but let me tell

(01:08):
you friends, that is not thecase.
Okay.
So I wanted to come on herereally quick and talk about this
because it is something that'shappening that I'm noticing as a
company that prints businesscards, but also as somebody who
networks.
So, okay.
Here are a few things.
First, I wanna tell you about atime I went to a networking

(01:29):
event.
It was a little while ago, and Ifelt so proud of myself because
I brought my business cards, which I had made for the very
first time, and I.
It was exciting.
Meanwhile, half the people therejust tap their phones together
and exchange LinkedIn profiles.
Don't get me wrong, I am techsavvy and I do know how to do

(01:50):
that as well, but I rememberstanding there and thinking, am
I showing my age?
Am I ancient?
Oh my gosh, I'm so old.
But guess what?
My little rectangle of Cardstockstill made an impression.
People would glance at it, feelthe texture, compliment the

(02:10):
design, and then follow meonline.
A business card isn't just aboutgiving someone your email
anymore.
It's a physical reminder thatyou exist.
It's branding in the real worldand something quick like a
business card, especially ifyou're at a popup, can be
quickly grabbed by someone asthey move through all the
booths.

(02:31):
No one, especially if your boothis busy, is going to stand in
line to wait to scan a single QRcode off your table.
And so this is kind of what wetalked about when I was talking
with this client, is there areways to make.
Use of your business cards in acreative way.
So creative, yet practical.

(02:52):
So this is typically what Iwould tell people.
Make it simple, but make itmemorable.
No overcrowding info dumps, clean, modern, branded.
Some people wanna put everysocial media that they're on.
You should actually just putyour top two if you wanna go
that route.

(03:12):
Okay?
One person her card, looked asif it was her Instagram feed.
Cute, really cute.
But then that's all theyincluded was their Instagram.
So.
Think about how you can keep itsimple.
Keep the card memorable and getthem the info that you actually
want them to connect youthrough.
Okay?

(03:32):
Add a QR code.
this is one thing that I've beenadding, asking many of my
clients recently is.
Do you wanna put a QR code onthis?
Because people love quick links.
Send them to your website, yourportfolio, or even just to your
Instagram.
These are quick, easy ways toget them to grab your card and
instantly engage with it.

(03:55):
Invest in good quality.
A thick card feels better than aflimsy one, and it says that I
care about the details.
Obviously.
My company makes business cards,so I make my own.
But before we started doingthat, I used to make some from
like Office Depot and Staples.

(04:16):
And don't get me wrong, allthose places are cool in their
own right, but there is asignificant di difference on how
much you spend and the qualityof the car that you get.
So just keep that in mind.
And of course, shameless plug.
But if you would like to getbusiness cards and support of
small business like mine, youcan totally do that.

(04:37):
The link is in the show notes, and you can visit GaN sues.com.
Always have a few cards on youbecause you never know when
you're going to meet your nextclient collaborator or
connection.
And the last thing you wanna dois not have a card and have your
phone be dead.
That is not, not cute.
I love the phone aspect.

(04:57):
I like the tap, but sometimeslet's be real internet.
It doesn't wanna agree with youin certain places, and so having
a card, having that backup isalways a great thing.
I always have a few on me.
It also keeps my childrenentertained when they want
something to play with.
I just whip out a business cardand then they can use it.

(05:20):
And my daughter, she goes aroundand she like, she doesn't even
know what mommy and daddy does, but she promotes the heck out of
the business because she'll goaround and say, this is my
mommy.
This is my daddy, and show themmy card.
And so, I mean, hey, if I get aclient out of that, she has done
her job.
Okay, let's be real.

(05:42):
Some people only want to connectdigitally.
I get it.
That's okay.
Don't take it personally.
I never take it personally.
Having both a digital andphysical option does make you
versatile and that's the goal.
Okay.
So like I said, some people willwanna tap and that's fine.
Some people will want card, that's also fine.

(06:04):
But it's great to have both incase you ever, like I said, are
in a situation where maybe theinternet doesn't work or maybe
your phone is dying.
Okay.
So are business cards dead?
Was the question I was asked?
Are business cards dead?
Absolutely not.
I think they're just anothertool in your connection toolbox.

(06:27):
Use them wisely.
Make them you.
Make them stand out, make themmemorable.
That's if you don't rememberanything else.
Just remember that it's notabout handing out.
A hundred cards.
It's about making five realconnections that really matter.
Thanks for hanging out with me.
This was a very short episode.
It was just to answer somequestions I've been getting.

(06:48):
I'm gonna throw out some ofthese questions more often onto
the podcast and have littleshort little snippets.
All right.
Thank you for joining me.
I will see you all in the nextone.
That's a wrap on another episodeof Caffeinated Chaos.
I hope you're leaving with alittle more clarity, a lot more
inspiration, and maybe even anextra shot of motivation.
