grateful, thankful foreverything, because I get to
come home early.
Not many people get to say that, so I'm going, both of them a

brag, because God knew Likethese days mean so much, because
I get to get off of work, I getto work, get off of work and
run in or just say you know what, god, I want to relax, I want
to just stay in your presenceand to me that's just.

Those are the moments that areyou can't get back.
So I'm just grateful andthankful for that.
How are you doing?

Well, I'm blessed as well, but, unlike you, I got to
go to work.
I got to go to work today, butI'm thankful.
I'm thankful for theopportunity even to work.
I'm the opposite I work on theweekends and you work during the
week, so it's all good.
I'm excited.
I'm just thankful to God evento work and even the times that

he give me off.
So I'm excited.
But I'm most excited about justthis conversation that we've
been having about Joseph.
It's refreshing for me and it'sbeen encouraging just to read
about always.
Like I said I said this onprevious episodes when I read
the story of Joseph, I thinkabout me.

That's me, although I know thathe's a type shot of Jesus
Christ, but you know somecharacters, biblical characters
we could relate to, and there'sone character that I could
relate to and I said it in thepast it will be Joseph, and I'm
excited about that.
So are you ready to dive intothe episode or what's on your
mind?

Look, this episode, these episodes, shall I say,
have truly been blessing me,because getting to see the
character of such a man likeJoseph, right, many times people
just skim through the Bible,but you don't correlate this

person to a person nowadays,right?
So, for me, I'm just so elatedand grateful that we're having
this discussion because, I tellyou what, if there was a
character of man that existednowadays, who, a man that had

Joseph's character and he wassingle, I would say, yep, I'll
be Asana.

Joseph Joseph.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
So serious because, yeah, Joseph, really, truly,
he's definitely a character thatwas to be admired.
He showed different.
You see the immaturity of him.
You see the adolescence, theimmaturity, and now you see the

man that he has become aftertrials and tribulations.
So I think that's the beauty ofJoseph.

Okay, so let's dive right into it.

I'm reading from the NLT, one of my favorites, and
I'm learning about the messagenow.
So Be prepared, brother Nate,be prepared.
In the NLT, chapter 41, 53 saysAt last, the 70 years of bumper
crops throughout the land ofEgypt came to an end.

(05:51):
Then the seven years of faminebegan.
Just as Joseph had predicted,the famine also struck all the
surrounding countries, butthroughout Egypt there was
plenty of food.
Eventually, however, the faminespread throughout the land of

(06:13):
Egypt as well, and when thepeople cried out to Pharaoh for
food, he told them go to Josephand do whatever he tells you.
So, with with severe familyfamine Everywhere, joseph opened
up the storehouses anddistributed grain to the
Egyptians, for the famine wassevere Throughout the land of

(06:37):
Egypt.

Yes, it's shown up, was shown up.
I say, show them.
So when we think about a famine, we think about lack of food,
lack of resources and Even God'sjudgment upon the land.
And because we know, not allfamine is Created equal, and I
want people to understand thatJoseph dream Not Joseph dream,

but Joseph interpretation ofPharaoh's dream is coming into
fruition.
You know, seven years they hadplenty and now here's another
Seven years where there's afamine.
It says that the famine wassevere and there's anything that
we could equate this famine.
Back then, to add me, I'm closeto saying about the pandemic,

(07:24):
what are your thoughts?
You think the famine isequivalent to what we experience
?

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Yep, it's, yeah, because that's literally just
play hit my heart.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yes, what is it?
Just put it like this a lot ofuncertainty.
People are at disarray.
They don't know where they'regonna get money, they don't know
what they're gonna get food.
At me it's funny because I justhad a moment just now.
So I remember when folks wasbattling or raging and going
crazy over tissue and I can'tthink on top of my head where,

(07:58):
what other things that peoplewas fighting over.
But it felt Like you said.
It felt like a famine.
You talk about lack of resourcesand ain't no telling if we have
another famine like Event herein the United States, I don't
know what folks may do.
So I can't even imagine whatJoseph family we're going

(08:22):
through in the land of Canaan.
So this is where it gets good.
You know, folks like folks likejuicy, juicy stories.
But I believe that the chapters, the remaining chapters, we're
about to read.
This is a you know it's gonnasay a lot about the heart of
Joseph.
So the read and we're gonnasummarize it, you know, because

(08:45):
Joseph story could go on for awhile.
So we're just gonna try ourbest to compact His story and
just a couple episodes and justand you just just gonna have to
just go back and read Joseph thedreamer but adne.
So chapter 42 and chapter 44,and I'm just summarizing and we

(09:05):
can make it practical and how itrelates to us.
So we know, during the famine,joseph brothers traveled To
Egypt to buy grain and what'sinteresting is that the dad,
jacob, jacob, didn't, didn'tallow the younger brother,
benjamin, to go with the tent.
Why?

(09:27):
Because he believed that a harmmight come upon.
You know Benjamin and if youknow anything about Benjamin, we
know Jacob had a couple wivesand two concubines and we know
the one he loved had twochildren are from him Joseph and

(09:47):
Benjamin.
So he was, you could I had.
You think Jacob was sure thelittle favoritism towards
Benjamin?
I know the Bible doesn't saythat, but is it?
You think it's?
Probably he could you think thereason why he kept Benjamin
back is because what happened toJoseph?
What are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Actually, that's what literally came into my heart.
Remember, Joseph was hisfavorite.
Why?
Because he loved Joseph'smother more than he loved all
the other Women that wereinvolved in the picture.
He Joseph Jacob chose Rachel.
Laban chose Leah.
There is something to be saidwhen a man chooses his wife and

Somebody else gets in the mixand mess that whole thing up,
his heart will always belong tothe first right, the one that
caught his eye, the one that hesaid that's gonna be my wife,
that's gonna be my ride or die,that's gonna be my whatever.
And Joe Jacob still Still lovedRachel, and you can tell by the

(11:01):
way he treated the two sonsthat came from her right.
He creed.
He had a coat of many colorsmade for Joseph.
All right, joseph is out of thepicture.
He sends his son to go and getgrained in Egypt, but keeps
Benjamin home.
Anything could have beenfalling his sons on the on their

(11:23):
way to Egypt.
Well, yeah, some bigger happento y'all, but nothing can happen
to him.
He needs to stay right herewith me.
So you see the favoritism youreally, truly do.
And I really want to talk tothe parents, especially those
who are, who have what we callblended family.

(11:43):
When your family blends, itblends.
Do not look at the child thatwas born either outside of your
marriage as your step child.
I hate that word step.
I Absolutely lo that word.
To me that word puts divisionin the family.
When you see that child, seethat child as yours, treat that

(12:07):
child as if that child came fromyour loins and the.
And the reason I'm saying thatis because my mom was my dad's
mistress, or would you call herand my, and back then she was a
concubine and I was a child of.
My dad's mistress when my motherdied.
His wife didn't want to haveanything to do with me, which

(12:29):
means my, my father Didn't dowhat he needed to do for me as a
father.
I don't regret it because, youknow, speaking to my siblings,
they say honey, you ain't missnothing.
I said y'all had him, though Ididn't.
But what I'm saying to parentsis, if you're going to get into
a relationship and the personthat you are dating has children

(12:53):
, don't go with the mindset thatthese are your step kids.
Go with the mindset that theseare your children, especially if
you've already gotten married.
Do not regard those children asyour stepchildren, because when
you look through the Bible, Inever once see what other as

(13:14):
stepchildren Half-brother,half-sister those are things
that we made up.
We put those labels, so let'skeep the family whole.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Yeah, that's facts.
So, as you mentioned, thebrothers went to Egypt to get
grain and the interesting thingthat happened Joseph we know
that he's government, he's aruler, he has a leadership role
in Egypt and Joseph recognizedhis 10 brothers to the point
where, when he recognized, herecognized them but they did not

(13:49):
recognize him.
So, even throughout the wholechapter 42, you could see where
Joseph is saying like, hey,these guys are spies.
I think Joseph is messing withthem.
So Joseph said hey, you guysare spies.
And what I find interesting atand it's in verse 13 of chapter

(14:11):
42, this is what they said.
They said we are your servants,our 12 brothers, the son of one
man and they're referring toJacob and the land of Canaan,
because that's where they camefrom and behold, the youngest is
this day with our father andone is no more.

(14:33):
So they confess I don't believethat Joseph asked them that
they said, hey, we got a youngerbrother that's with our father,
and in other words they'resaying that there's one no more.
So they said, oh, he's probablydead or he's no longer with us.
So they're confessing to whattranspired and to me that shows

(14:57):
a lot of maturity.
It shows that tells me thatthey probably had a lot to get
off their chest.
They're not the same group ofbrothers.
They were years ago, prior toselling their brother into
slavery.
So we could see some kind ofmaturity in these brothers and
I'm sure they were probablyremorseful for what they did to

(15:18):
Joseph, because we see it in thetext here, because, look,
they're in a low place.
And it's interesting, adne, thatsometimes when we're in a
famine or we lack resources andwe're desperate for stuff,
that's when most people tend tobe humble, lowy, and we can make
this more practical that it'sinteresting that sometimes, when

(15:43):
I was about to say balling, yougot a good job, career, six
figures, making good money.
Sometimes people tend to forgetabout God when things are going
well for them.
Sometimes people don't take ahumble disposition in a sense,
even confessing or even exposingsome of the things that they
did wrong.

(16:03):
Because sometimes, when peopleare in their high place, they
feel like they got it alltogether and sometimes, when
you're at your lowest point,you're like, hey, man, I have
nothing to lose.
I'm gonna just tell them whatwent on.
I got a brother down there inCanaan and also there's a

(16:24):
brother that's with us.
That's no longer so we're notlying to you, we're not spies.
So Joseph is saying they'respies and they said no, joseph,
we're not spies, we're just afew good men that just came down
from Canaan and Joseph keptthem for three days.
I told you, adne, joseph isplaying with his brothers, man.
But he decided to hold back.

(16:44):
He decided to say nah, y'allspies, y'all spies, you guys are
spies.
But he recognized them and hewent so far to even hold them
back for three days.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
I think one of the things that I realized is when
the scripture says that Josephremembered the dream right, and
in remembering the dream hedidn't get boastful.
It humbled him and in ithumbling him, it helped him to
realize why he ended up in Egyptin the first place, because

(17:17):
this famine was coming.
It's like God was preparingJoseph.
Joseph wasn't ready.
God was preparing the brotherstoo, but the brothers were never
ready.
Because I'm gonna take it tomodern day when you have a
two-parent household and parentsplay favorites, you always end
up putting your children againsteach other, no matter how you

(17:41):
say hey, look out for yourbrother, your brother can't
stand you because mommy anddaddy loves you more.
So they perceive right.
So now, here it is.
They're in Egypt.
They're older.
Now they understand the era oftheir ways in selling their
brother into slavery, because weare not privy to what Jacob

(18:03):
endured In thinking his son wasdead.
We don't know the grievingprocess that they had to see,
the hurt and the pain that theyinflicted upon their father.
A lot of times those things willcause you to look at a
situation and say, man, we didwrong right.
So here it is.
Now you get to Egypt, you'retrying to buy grain, and this

(18:25):
man ain't asking you nothingabout you selling your brother
or whatever.
All he said was your spies,your guilt, their guilt came to
the forefront.
That's what it was.
Yes, they matured, but when youreally think about it, when
they shared something that theydidn't even have to share, that
first of all y'all don't evenrecognize that it's your brother

(18:48):
, but y'all telling him.
Well, you know, our father had12 of us.
One of them is no more.
He didn't ask you that.
He didn't ask you that.
So what spoke up?
It was their guilt.
The guilt of whatever it isthey had to endure until they
got to Egypt.
At that time is what plaguedthem and that's why they shared.
What they shared and that'swhat the Holy Spirit laid on my

(19:11):
heart to share is that sometimesour guilt will cause us to
confess things that nobody likeyou ever had a conversation with
somebody and you sharedsomething.
And they're looking at you likebruh we talking about peanut
butter and jelly and you talkingabout this.
Where did that come from?
It happened.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Yeah, and I wanted to put emphasis on that and you
brought up a great point.
Yeah, their guilt kind of likeexposed that and it talked about
that in Genesis 42, verse 21,when they said to one another.
They said, in truth, we areguilty concerning our brother
and that we saw the distress ofhis soul when he begged us and

(19:51):
we did not listen.
So they're saying that all youknow to each other because in
their mind they're looking atlike karma you know that's the
worldly term karma you reap whatyou sow, you know.
So they're looking at like ohman, I thought I could have got
away with this now, because wedid this to our brother many,
many years ago now.
Look what's happening to us,look how karma is having this

(20:13):
ugly hand upon us.
So I guess that initiallyprobably would have scarred
their conscious and they justcame out and said what they said
.
But I believe that, joseph, ina sense he tested them, because
how would you know?
You haven't seen your brothersin so long?
How do you know that they'renot the same people?
How do you know that they havechanged?

(20:35):
How do you know they evenmatured?
So there is, it's kind of likeyou got to use the sermon.
If somebody have wronged you,you're not just gonna just go
back and fellowship with them,like that.
You're gonna be like wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, let me let
me see if this person hasmatured, or let me see this.
It's so that that takes adegree of the sermon and I I

(20:55):
believe that's what Joseph isdoing here.
I believe he's utilizing thesermon because, although he in
this crazy, because he's in,he's in a position of power, so
he has the authority to bringharm onto them.
But he's not even doing that.
He's really testing them.
He's trying them.
He's seeing that if they, theyare fully matured and even they,

(21:15):
they fully exposed himself.
Like, hey, we're guilty, whatwe did to our brother, this is
what he did.
He begged us and we ain't evenlisten to him.
So what Joseph did is Josephkept sending behind and Joseph
put money in their bag andJoseph to send them on their way
, and Joseph did tell them likehey, when y'all come back, bring
your younger brother, bringlittle man.

(21:37):
And I think that there was averse that you read, because
obviously they won't get testednumerous time, adne, but there
was a verse that you read whereyou said that, um, one of the
brothers, he finally stood up.
So obviously and I'm not, I'mjust briefly said that they got
tricked.
Uh, so, when they brought backBenjamin, obviously they had
some things to say to theirdaddy, like, hey, this man gave

(21:58):
us money, this and that, butwe're gonna go back, he want our
younger brother to go back.
And then obviously that thebrother, the dad, was like I
don't know if I could give myonly son.
Then they went back.
Then Joseph tricked his brotheragain by putting a cup and and
the younger brothers bag, andThen he let, he let them go

(22:18):
about their way.
Last, though, they was goingback home and he sent his
troopers, them troopers, andthen gangsters.
And then when they check allthe bag, boom, the cup was found
and Little Benjamin's bag.
And that's when he brought himback, brought him back.
And then, of course, we all knowwhat happened.
But find that verse, adne, thatthat you read Regarding Judah,

(22:43):
because Judah was yeah, cuzJudah was willing to stand in
the gap, he's, he's, he's, he'staking a stand.
And I believe both Ruben andJudah took a stand.
Yeah, both of them took a standthis time, and we know what
happened years ago.
There was kind of like, hey,let's do this to our brother,

(23:04):
let's do that, but we say, thistime go around.
When it comes to Benjamin, theyare like taking a stand, and,
and so that's how you know thatthey have grown to some degree
and they have matured.
Read that verse, adne.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Okay, so I'm gonna start with what Ruben said first
, and then I'll go to Judah areperfect 40, 42, 37 it says.
Then Ruben said to his fatheryou may kill my two sons if I
don't bring Benjamin back to you.
I'll be responsible for him andI promise to bring him back.
But Jacob replied my son willnot go down with you.

(23:37):
His brother, joseph, is deadand he is all I have left.
If Anything should happen tohim on your journey, you would
send this grieving white hairedman to his grave.
And then we go into 43.
But the famine continued toravage the land of Canaan when
the grain they had brought fromEgypt was almost gone.

(23:58):
Jacob said to his sons go backand buy us a little more food.
But Judah said the man wasserious when he warned us you
won't see my face again, unlessyour brother is with you.
If you send Benjamin with us,we will go down and buy more
food, but if you don't letBenjamin go, we won't go either.

(24:22):
Remember, the man said youwon't see my face again unless
your brother is with you, why?
And Jacob said why are you socruel to me?
Jacob moan, you did.
You did tell him Sorry.
Why did you tell him you hadanother brother?
And Then let's get to whereJudah tells him this is just him

(24:44):
going through the spiel withthem if you want, we could just
fast forward.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
When, when the cup was found in Benjamin and back,
and that's in chapter 44 ofVerse 12, it said and he
searched, beginning with theeldest and the ending with the
youngest, and the cup was foundin Benjamin sack, so it was like
that was kind of like anindication, like, okay, benjamin
is stealing, hi, I'm gonna comeall the way down from Canaan,

(25:12):
come to Egypt and I'm giving youour food.
And here you are, you're stillin the cup.
But we know it was Joseph, youknow it was Joseph plan to put
the cup in there.
So you know things not gonna gowell With the brother, cuz you
know they slide, hold up youstealing.
So, adne, I want you to readand you're gonna read any cuz
this, this right here.
This gonna be a beautifulReconciliation story and it's

(25:36):
it's 44.
I want you to start readingfrom 44.
You're gonna read from 18, 18through 34.
So it's a lot, but it's neededto be said.
And this is where Judah, judahis standing in the paint.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
All right.
Genesis 44, verse 18, says thenJudah stepped forward and said
please, my Lord, let yourservants say just one word to
you.
Please do not be angry with me,even though you are as powerful
as Pharaoh himself.
My Lord, previously you askedus your servants Sorry.

(26:17):
You asked us your servants doyou have a father or a brother?
And we responded yes, my Lord.
We have a father who is an oldman and his youngest son is a
child of his old age.
His full brother is dead and healone is left of his mother's

(26:37):
children, and his father loveshim very much.
And you said to us bring himhere so I can see him with my
own eyes.
But we said to you, my Lord,the boy cannot leave his father,
for his father would die.
But you told us, unless youryoungest brother comes with you,

(26:58):
you will never see my faceagain.
So we returned to your servant,our father, and told him what
you said.
Later, when he said go backagain and buy more food, we
replied we can't go unless ouryoungest brother goes with us.
We'll never get to see theman's face unless our youngest

(27:21):
brother is with us.
Then my father said to us asyou know, my wife had two sons,
and one of them went away andnever returned.
Doubtless he was torn to piecesby some wild animal.
I have never seen him since.
Now, if you take his brotheraway from me and any harm comes

(27:44):
to him, you will send thisgrieving white-haired man to his
grave.
And now, my Lord, I cannot goback to my father without the
boy.
Our father's life is bound upin the boy's life.
If he sees that the boy is notwith us, our father will die.
We, your servants, will indeedbe responsible for sending that

(28:08):
grieving white-haired man to hisgrave.
My Lord, I guaranteed to myfather that I would take care of
the boy.
I told him, if I don't bringhim back to you, I will bear the
blame forever.
So please, my Lord, let me stayhere as a slave instead of the

(28:30):
boy.
Let the boy return with hisbrothers, for how can I return
to my father if the boy is notwith me?
I couldn't bear to see thatanguish this would cause my
father.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Wow, the Bible said a mouthful right there, and I
like what Judah is saying.
Judah is pouring out his souland, as I mentioned, he is
standing in a gap, he issacrificing.
Now.
This is what a big brother'ssupposed to do.
Now, as we've been talkingabout Joseph, Adne, we didn't

(29:09):
see this attitude in Joseph afew years ago.
Joseph didn't have thisattitude when it came down to
selling Joseph into slavery.
But we can see here thematurity, Like he is willing to
sacrifice for the sake of hisbrother.
And I see here that hementioned his father numerous
times and you could tell thatJoseph, yeah, they're talking

(29:31):
about the father.
They talked about Joseph andhow the daddy would die.
And they're talking aboutJoseph because they're pouring
out their soul to him.
But, yeah, they don't evenrecognize him.
But he already know who they'retalking about.
And this is what I wanted toread, Adne, since you already

(29:54):
kind of like read that and ifanybody wanna go ahead and read
it, they would have to go backand read chapter 44.
But what I wanted to read andthis is gonna be like in closing
what I wanted to read is thatin 45 verse one, in just one
verse it said "'Then Josephcould not control himself,
"'before all those who stood byhim, "'And he cried make

(30:15):
everyone go out from me.
"'so no one stayed with him.
"'when Joseph made himselfknown to his brother'".
So Joseph couldn't even containhimself.
So Joseph revealed his identityto his brothers, and we know
what happened later on heforgave them for selling him
into slavery.
Adne, this is a remarkablestory, and that's an art in the

(30:41):
power of forgiveness that is sopowerful.
What's your take in terms ofJoseph revelation and how he
broke down?
Cause we know what Joseph said,but Joseph had a moment.
He just broke down and hecouldn't even take it no more.
He said brothers like this isme.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
Two things that are on my heart right now, and I
have to say this.
It says when we go back to 44,where Judah says the boy's life
and his father's life areintertwined, what I see is our
heavenly father and our bigbrother, jesus, their life being
intertwined into one another.
The love that Jacob had forBenjamin is the love that our

(31:29):
father has for us and thesacrifice that Jesus had to make
for us to be reconciled to him.
When I look at Joseph and himrevealing himself to his
brothers, basically saying look,don't beat yourself up, no more
.
It's like I'm your brother,joseph, and that grief, just

(31:53):
knowing, like how can I do thisto my father by keeping Benjamin
, knowing that my father thinksthat I'm dead?
I can't do that.
You know, I couldn't do that tomy father and I believe that's
what tugged on his heart andthat's why he said everybody out
, get out, get out, get out.
And he said, and he shared withhis brothers his identity.

(32:15):
Forgiveness is a beautiful thing.
Forgiveness is not for thepeople who hurt you.
Forgiveness is for you.
Forgiveness releases you fromthe pain that was inflicted upon
you.
Forgiveness frees you theindividual who was done wrong.

(32:36):
Holding a grudge does nothing,nothing but cause venom to flare
up inside of you.
There are some of us who aredying of cancer, all these high
blood pressure, diabetes, andsometimes it is from those
emotions that we are holdinghostage inside of us that have

(33:00):
turned into poison.
So seeing Joseph really releasetears, everything, and
basically saying I am yourbrother, joseph is my father
still alive, I think that'sbeautiful.
I am grateful and thankful forlearning true forgiveness

(33:21):
through this story.

Yes, yeah, that's powerful, and even just reading
it.
Forgiveness is one component,but another component is
reconciliation.
And we know that Joseph is atype shadow of Jesus Christ.
You know they, they share a lotof similarities, but Joseph is
man in Jesus Christ was God, butthey still share a lot of

(33:46):
similarities.
So when I think about Joseph,the other component is
reconciliation.
So reconciliation is therestoration of any relationship
or reunion.
And there's a scripture thatcame to my mind in 2 Corinthians
, 5, 18, 19,.
Because we, as children of God,we too have the ministry of

(34:07):
reconciliation.
So the Bible requires, in verse18, it says and all things are
of God, who has reconciled us tohimself by Jesus Christ and has
given us the ministry ofreconciliation, the ministry of
restoration, the ministry ofreunion, reunion.

(34:29):
It says, to wit, that God wasin Christ, reconciling the world
onto himself, not imputingtheir trespasses onto them, and
has committed onto us the wordof reconciliation.
So God has put into Joseph whathe has put into Christians.

(34:54):
You know how to make itpractical and relatable, because
we, as Christians, we have tobe reminded that even what Adne
said, we have to forgive.
But that's one thing, andanother thing that God has given
us the ministry, because thisis called by God podcast.
I believe that utilizing thisplatform is really to draw

(35:17):
people closer to God, so peoplecould reunite back with God, so
people could be restored withGod.
So God has given us Christiansthe ministry of reconciliation
and we see that even in Joseph'sstory.
