(00:15):
Well, hey there campers, and welcome back to a brand new
episode of Camp Cryptid. I am your host Eric Affett, and
it is the end of 2025 and looking to a new 2026.
There's a lot to look forward to, but 2025 has been a year
full of creatures and lots of good stories.
Vampires one of my favorites andmovies this year and we have had
(00:36):
a phenomenal year for horror andsci-fi.
And I just thought it would be afun little time to talk about
well off script. So maybe not so much one of my
like deep dives of cryptids or random weird subjects, but to
talk about all the cool movies that came out in 2025, you know,
(00:56):
because here I can't Cryptid. We don't just talk about horror
stories. We actually love to see those
stories in movies and being toldand other popular culture
things. So I'm just so excited to kind
of do a little end of the year recap.
So you know, when it comes down to it, I didn't see every single
movie that came out this year because I'm trash.
Easiest thing, I'm just trash. So there's a lot of movies that
(01:18):
are probably on the top list that are amazing that I just
haven't seen. And if you hear one that I
didn't talk about and you're like, holy crap, that is an
amazing movie, please let me know on like social media or in
the comments somewhere so I can add it to my list because I'm
very disorganized. And you know, as a resolution
for 2026, let's get organized, right?
So this is my top list of thingsthat I've seen, right?
(01:39):
And this is going to be in no particular order because there
are some movies that, you know, I really love this aspect in
this aspect. But you know, when it comes down
to it, I didn't have like 1 absolute favorite.
There's probably like 3 or 4. They're like my, I would be
like, yes, you have to, you haveto watch this.
But the first one on my list wasFrankenstein.
I absolutely loved Frankenstein.I came out in the movies for
(02:02):
like a limited run and then it was on Netflix.
And I honestly like it to me because you guys know I love
Bronze Soaker's Dracula and that1990s version of Dracula.
And so this was like right up myalley.
You know, you had this gothic romance, you had beautiful
costuming. The entire like set designs was
(02:22):
just so extra. And I just honestly like I loved
everything down to the casting, down to, you know, the creative
little tidbits that Guillermo del Toro threw in.
And honestly, like y'all know, he's one of my favorite
directors writers. I just think he is so creative.
I have his cabinet of curiosities behind me that
(02:43):
feature some of the like drawings he's done, the little
Kronos Scarab vampire trinket. It's like, it's amazing.
Watching this was like just it. It's amazing to see these
beautiful stories that are just, you know, withstand the test of
time be put into such a beautiful layout.
(03:04):
It was I just absolutely loved it.
So Frankenstein, that top, top. I was like, you know, when it
comes down to what I have Dracula stuff all behind me.
I was like, this simply gives 100% going to be something that
I love. Yes, yes to Frankenstein.
The second one I would say was Begonia.
I was waiting and waiting and waiting to watch this and I try
(03:24):
to avoid all all the spoilers and I I would recommend going
into it spoiler free, right? And I will I will try not to do
any spoilers. OK, so, but I absolutely love
this. I loved Emma Stone in this and
it was like the perfect mix of like mystery, thriller and
sci-fi and I just thought it wasreally, really, really cool.
(03:47):
So if you're like on the sci-fi,you know, you want something
just a little bit different and just like keep you questioning,
that's hands down. I loved it.
Another one on my list is Weapons.
I saw this one in theaters and Iwas like, so excited and, you
know, no spoilers, but I absolutely loved that it was
(04:08):
something that had like, cool meanings and it used, you know,
protagonists that you don't often see in film.
And I just thought it was reallycool.
I thought it was a cool modern take on some things and overall,
I also would recommend going into that one completely spoiler
free. I know it's so hard with the age
of the Internet to avoid any types of spoilers, but I will
(04:29):
try my best and I will say that it is one you should definitely
check out. Very cool, just unique.
You know, I I love those cool stories that are like very
unique. Now, another one that's super,
super unique that I would recommend is Killer of killers
and it is animated and it is phenomenal.
I think it's on Hulu right now and it is a an animated predator
(04:52):
movie about different warriors that meet the predator and the
predator race and overall amazing, amazing animation.
It was so cool, so badass. I mean, so many people who love
the Predator franchise, right, who love the Predator as like a
story and overall, you know, theme love to see like different
(05:15):
time periods incorporated. And that's, and that is just
what this did. It was, it gave, it gave
everybody who had been asking for these things a little bit of
like a little taste, right? So we're now we're like, oh God,
we, we need more. I'm like a fiend.
I'm like, yes, more stories, yes.
So I honestly, that was one of my, I just absolutely love that.
(05:35):
And you know, I'm a huge Predator fan.
I have outside, I have like 2 cases full of Predator
figurines, you know, I just loveit.
So I'd highly recommend that. So, so good.
What? Definitely one on my list, but
I'd say you have to see, you have to see, you have to see.
It's so good. Another one that I really liked
was Bring Her Back. This one was a little bit darker
(05:56):
of a like a horror, deeper thriller theme.
I would say it is definitely a darker movie, but overall it was
really, really good. I'd heard so many great things
about this movie and then I was like, OK, well, I got to sit
down and watch it and it was it was definitely very good.
Definitely suspenseful. So definitely, definitely,
(06:19):
definitely adding that one to mylist.
Yes, definitely bring her back is if you need something like a
little bit like more Moody, I would definitely say bring her
back for sure. My cat's in the background
meowing, of course. So if you hear that, I'm so
sorry. Dangerous animals, Dangerous
animals was one that was like, I, I wouldn't classify it as
(06:40):
fun, right? But I would definitely say it's
definitely like a very like action-packed horror movie.
And honestly it I, I got done with that and I was like, OK,
this was really good. Like people were were saying,
but also I was like, I could seethat happening.
So then it adds this extra layerof like scary horror to it,
(07:03):
which was really good. But overall, I loved that one.
It was definitely like a more action adventure.
And I'd highly recommend that too because it was very, very
crazy. And yeah, I like sharks.
And it's also nice to be honest,to see the sharks not be like
the the thing that's like, everybody's like, Oh my God,
(07:23):
it's the shark's jaws, you know? And it's like sharks, man.
They're just, they're just fish out there, you know, you just,
there's fish out there. Sorry for my rant.
Now one that I think that shouldget a lot of love, but I think
was like not a lot of people have seen it is the ugly step
sister. I it was like body gore but in
like a really cool way. I really really love.
(07:47):
I love like time period pieces where it's like the costuming.
I'm like a sucker for that, but the ugly step sister was like
body gore horror and like just human desire maxed out in one
movie. And honestly, I I really dug it.
I really, really enjoyed it. And if you were into like body
gore and those types of like horror movies, I'd definitely
(08:09):
check. I'd definitely check it out if I
were you, because it was definitely a good story.
I really enjoyed the story and Idon't know man, I I just really
liked it. So I definitely added that one
to my list for sure. Now also adding to my list is
one that was like, obviously it took over the Internet and this
and This is why I also said these are in no particular
(08:29):
order, because how could I ever rate like sinners and
Frankenstein? Like, come on, they are they are
iconic, right? So I'm not going to pit one
against the other because I havelove for so many, but sinners,
right? Sinners was a such an amazing
movie and it, and it was like viral on the Internet and like,
of course we know why because itwas amazing, amazing story,
(08:49):
amazing representation of vampires of the time period.
And I think to me just seeing itbrought to life was like such a
like a unique, just captivating story.
And I, I loved it. The vampires look fucking great.
And it was really cool because it was like I really like when
(09:12):
vampires look scary and it's like the 30 days of night.
And I think that Ryan Coogler did a great job with how he had
the vampires look fucking scary.I mean they had, you know,
teeth, they had blood, they had like this like eye that like was
like almost like, I don't know what that name is for the where
your eyes like glow at night, right, But it was amazing.
(09:37):
It was so good. It was so good.
There were so many parts about that that I like I see like
things about it even still to this day and I'm like, God,
that's so good. Or when people find little
little tidbits and I'm like, that's so good.
Yes, the centers man, I I'm a sucker for a vampire film and
I'm definitely a sucker for a great vampire film.
So that's to me. Honestly, I would say hands down
(10:00):
this one you have to have to addto your list if you have not
seen it and maybe if you have seen it, go give it another
watch because it's so good. It's so good.
And the end. Oh gosh, yeah, sorry.
OK now another one that I really, really liked was Horror
and the High Desert for Majesty.I love found footage.
I have talked about this before,I think on my letterbox.
(10:22):
I have like my top found footagelist and I just love found
footage. I think it's a really cool
genre. I think it's really cool to see
how directors pull off the whole, you know, why are they
holding the camera thing? And honestly, I love the horror
in the high deserts. And what is captivating about
this series is that it leaves somuch to the imagination, which
(10:46):
makes it even like scarier in myopinion, because it gives you so
it gives you like these little tidbits that add so much
eeriness to the story and what could be out there in the
desert, right? And there's already so many like
folklore legends and stories about, you know, ghost towns out
in the desert, haunted, haunted places out in the middle of
(11:08):
nowhere that are in these desertlandscapes.
You know, you have the story of the MK if you have so many cool
little tidbits about the desert.I mean, and, and think about
when you think about the desert, sometimes you're like, oh man,
you think of like, oh, how they used to test things out there.
And then you're like, Oh my gosh, there's literally it's
vastness of like empty desert, which makes it scary because in
(11:29):
a solitude, right? And it's like, OK, if you're out
there, if there's no one probably going to hear you.
So I think that adding all that into these stories that he comes
up with is just amazing. I absolutely loved Horror in the
High Desert 4. You know, every single one goes
(11:49):
through a different story about a different place out there, but
it's kind of all linked. And it's like you sit there and
think this could this could absolutely be real.
And I think to me, that's that realism factor that makes
something so terrifying. But yes, that is 1.
I definitely added to my list and I love those movies.
I will continue to watch them because they I mean, honestly,
(12:11):
so forth went in and I'm still like, OK, give me like 8 more.
They're so good, They're so good.
But yeah, so horror in the high desert for majesty.
If you have not watched the horror in the high deserts, I
highly recommend it because you've got a lot of content now
to catch up on. But it's found footage desert
creepiness. Come on, who doesn't love that?
I don't know. I I told you all, I I just I I
(12:31):
love movies. So now another one that I would
say that I really, really liked what actually 2 that I really,
really liked were all in shutterand I really loved the whole
house lineage movie and I reallyloved influencers.
The follow up to influencer. I think that shudder has come
out with some really pop and movies lately and I really had a
(12:52):
fun time with influencers. I I really like the first one.
So the second one I was like, OK, sign me up.
Crazy and awesome. And it was it was like one of
those adventure horror movies, thriller.
Yeah, but it was still good, very, very good.
And, you know, hell house lineage.
I knew this was kind of divisivewhen I came out because there
were a lot of people who didn't like that He switched from found
footage. And you know, I might be in the
(13:14):
minority, but I really, really liked it.
I think that the thing that withthese movies is there's so much
information and so many characters packed into the first
like 3 films, right? That are the, the, the found
footage prior to the Carmichael Manor.
And to me, it's like when you have so many characters being
introduced, right? And there's such a a long time
(13:34):
in between the movies getting, you know, published and
especially since this most recent one, people might forget
some of the characters. And so I think this movie tried
to bring them all together. But it it it's hard for people
to remember things, right, unless they're going through
like the day before and, and doing a marathon and watching
them. But what I will say is I think
that if people give it a second shot after they watch the other
(13:56):
ones do do like a marathon one day, right?
And, and remember the characters, remember the
scenarios and remember everything.
I think that will help people maybe, maybe watch it again and
give it like, OK, OK, now I see,you know, but you know what, at
the end of the day, everyone's opinion is their opinion.
I just honestly, I found it veryhelpful to go through and watch
(14:17):
the ones prior to that. So I just, everything was fresh
in my mind, which I mean, I had to do with a lot of things,
'cause I forget everything, but totally cool.
I really liked it. That's one, especially if you've
watched the whole, you know, allthe, the prior ones.
There's like 4 I think prior to it.
I mean, you got to watch it, right?
Come on. It's part of the story.
And then one of I guess one of the last ones on my list that
(14:41):
kind of ties us into 2026, right?
28 years later. I mean, we have waited what
feels like 28 years for this movie to come out.
And I mean, I watched the first one in the theater in 2000, like
3 or 2 when it came out. I was in high school.
So I'm like 40 now. So I'm ancient.
(15:03):
So it's been a while since thesemovies came out.
And what I will say is it was really cool to see the story
continued because I absolutely love, love, love zombies, love
zombies. And I really like the new, you
know, characters that they have very, you know, it's very
believable for like a post apocalyptic Zombieland, right?
And I'm very excited now going into 2026.
(15:27):
I'm very excited for the bone. What is it?
The bone temple? I think, and, and I really,
really think it's going to be amazing.
And I mean, if you haven't seen 28 years later, I would
definitely recommend it. The end is like my favorite.
I think it's amazing. I can't wait to see what horror
comes with that. But I yes, I'm very excited for
that. You know, looking forward to
(15:48):
2026, right? There's a lot of cool things
coming out. I mean, we have another
Frankenstein spinoff, which is like a not a spinoff, but like a
Frankenstein movie, The Bride, which is going to be cool.
It looks like very punk rock andI'm digging it.
I love it. And then obviously you have
Frogman Returns, which I just did an an interview with Anthony
(16:08):
Cousins, the writer and directorof Frogman and the Frogman
Returns movie. So that's very exciting, very
exciting. I should be seeing that in
March. So I should have early, early
talks of how amazing that is. I can't wait.
There's a Mummy movie coming out.
I am very excited about anythingto do with Egypt and mummies,
scary movie sex. You all know I love me a good
(16:30):
funny comedic horror. I just think it's it's
brilliant. I love it.
I love it when you pull it off. It's so good.
Oh God. So I can't wait.
And a lot of the cast is coming back for that.
So it's going to be like nostalgia and I can't wait.
I cannot wait. The new Exorcist movie, The
Deceiver, OK, The Exorcist is one of my absolute favorite
movies ever of of horror time and of all time, right?
(16:55):
And I'm really excited to see Mike Flanagan do this.
I think it is going to be eerie and unsettling.
And I'm very excited because he is a very artistic storyteller
and I am so excited for this. OK yeah.
So there's, I mean, y'all, there's a lot coming out.
And not to mention, I, I think aGettysburg Haunting by Gabe
(17:17):
Braxton should be out in 2026. We're very excited for
everything that Gabe does, including music.
So make sure to check him out. I just wish I was that artistic.
Like all my friends are so artistic.
And I'm like, y'all are so cool.Like, jeez.
And then oh, the Fairfield County 4 found footage werewolf
(17:37):
film that I'm in and I'm very excited by Josh Brucker and as
amazing cast. And I'm hoping to get Noah
Welter, Celeste Landon and JacobRonica on here to maybe have
like a little reunion because they're all doing so much horror
stuff and it's amazing. And I'm like, I got to pick
their minds of all these cool things that they're doing.
And then all the Cryptid should be coming out.
(17:58):
It is a film that was filmed in Princeton, WV, and I'm very
excited about that too. So, you know, there's some
really cool some things coming out in 2026, but you know, I
thought it would be fun to do a little off script episode where
as you know, I didn't even printout notes for this.
I just kind of looked at my computer and I saw the name of
the movie and I said, OK, well let's talk about it.
(18:20):
But I also am very excited because I have, I have like 3
episodes already written. I have one on Mercy Brown.
I'm really excited for that one.I was going to do that one in
January because that's basicallywhen it actually took place.
But that is about America's first vampire.
You know, when you think of America's vampires, you always
think of New Orleans, which I mean, rightfully so, right?
This one is up in New England and I, it's a pretty cool story.
(18:44):
So I, when I found out about that story, I was like, oh, I'm
going to write something about that.
OK. And then I did have one on since
it is, you know, the winter timeon Alaska and Antarctica and
weird like legends and lore out of there because I, you know,
it's it, you know, I think of January, I'm like ice.
So I was like perfect, we're going to do one on that.
(19:06):
And you know, I just I so I'm really excited.
I might do honestly in 2026, I might even do more off script
episodes where it's like me talking about movie reviews or
movies that I just watched, because that's one of the things
that I love to do is watch horror movies and sci-fi movies
and talk about them. So maybe more of the like movie
reviews coming because I also love when y'all meet me in
(19:29):
conventions and I get to talk movies with you.
So yes, more movies, but yeah, Iam pretty excited for 2026.
I think it's going to be amazingyear full of creatures and
cryptids. And I'm I'm very excited for
what's it come. And I hope 2026 is full of so
many amazing things for you. And I really hope that you eat
lots of good food and get some sunshine and you go and travel
(19:50):
and you treat yourself right. So I want to thank you all so
much for hanging out for a little recap of all the the of
my favorite and best horror movies of 2025 and.
I'm very excited for what's to come in 2026.
So with that being said, eat some good food.
You snuggle up and you watch some good movies.
And until next time, take care.
