(00:00):
The CEO you should Know, broughtto you by Roby Foster Miller Eric Insurance.
This week's CEO, Joe Shram,President of Shram Industries. Good morning,
Good morning, Thanks for having me. We're very excited about the opportunity.
Yeah, I've heard the name,I've heard the voice on the radio
and then some of those spots,So I'm glad to have you in and

(00:22):
find out more about you and thecompany. So I always begin with everybody
the same way. If somebody justmoved the area and they don't know a
lot about your company, could youplease tell us what you guys do and
all about you guys. Absolutely. At Tram Industries, we specialize in hydraulics.
We saw a need in the areafor a expert hydraulic repair facility both
in hose fittings, lines and cylinders. So over the years we've gone through

(00:47):
a significant amount of specialized training andbecome that facility. So we are the
one stop shop, everything done inhouse for all of your hydraulic needs.
Awesome. Now, in terms ofhydraulics, for somebody that maybe doesn't know
you know, what kind of vehiclesare we talking or just talk about hydraulics,
what you guys, I guess workon. Well, we predominantly specialize
in three industries, so construction beingthe largest, so your excavators, your

(01:11):
skid loaders, anything of that nature. Industrial, so if you have anything
in a plastics molding facility, anysort of manufacturing facility, and of course
agricultural is huge in this area.So we like to help our local farmers
and get them back in the fieldsworking. All right, So really doing
a lot of great work. SoI'm assuming you probably do work not only

(01:32):
in Rutland County, but beyond what'skind of the reach for company. We
certainly do. Yeah. Our predominantbasis is Richland County, Ashland County.
Also we get quite a few peoplefrom over that area. We do a
significant amount of work between the waywe say it is Cleveland, Columbus,
so fifty sixty mile radius. Especiallyon the larger jobs that some might struggle
with, we don't have any issuewith. So a lot of things are

(01:53):
transported shipped in things of that nature. Awesome to learn this morning about a
great local company in Shram Industry. The president, Joe Shram is with us
in studio this week's CEO. Youshould know so how long have you been
in operation. Well, we've beenopened for over twenty years now, a
lot of transitions throughout that time.Of course, as life has changed and

(02:14):
needs for the local community have changed. We always tried to adapt to what
is the most necessary need to ourlocal community, the most immediate need,
I might say. So. Weopened twenty plus years ago in Ashland,
Ohio. Actually we were there fora few years. Saw an opportunity to
move over to Mansfield just for alittle broader base and to still take care
of Island, of course, becauseit's just down the road, and we've

(02:36):
had a number of growth spurts sincethen. Our most recent one was seven
years ago where we purchased the buildingon Fourth Street at twelve thirty seven West
Fourth and that gives us a thirtythousand plus square foot internal footprint over nine
acres and give us a much betteropportunity to serve the community. Do you
have just one location or are theremultiple? We do have just one location,

(02:58):
the one on four Street, exactlyright and I drive past it all
the time. They're O per great. Joe Shram with us in studio,
President of Shram Industries. This week'sCEO. You should know. All right,
So let's step away from work andfind out a bit more about you.
So let's step back to the verybeginning, and if you would tell
us where was Joe Shram born?Well, I was born in Los Angeles.

(03:20):
My father worked there and we movedfrom there to Rest in Virginia,
then to Ashland, Ohio. Sothe bulk of my life has been growing
up in Ashland, Ohio. Okay. Born in Los Angeles, Okay?
All right? So where did yougo to high school? I went to
high school at Saint Peter's here inMansfield. Very good school, great education,
met a lot of wonderful people I'mstill friends with today, and it
was very, very wonderful. Allright, you are a spartan, then

(03:43):
I have ready terrific all right,Now tell me Joe after high school?
I mean, how did you getinto this field? Was there? You
know? Growing up? I meanjust loved to hear everybody's story on kind
of how they got where they areat. Certainly, so, I've always
been attracted to mechanical things since Iwas a little child, you know,
when I was ten or twelve yearsold asking my dad for a dirt bike,
which of course I was told noover and over again, as most

(04:06):
probably, and years later that evolvedinto me getting some little job in a
restaurant and saving up enough money topurchase my first dirt bike or four wheel
or whatever it may have been. And of course it was of inferior qualities,
so it had to be repaired allthe time, and so I had
to learn about that and I reallyenjoyed it. So from their growth sort
of naturally happened organically, happened overthe decades to where we are today.

(04:30):
So talk about you mean, whereall have you worked again? Again?
Leading up to running Shram Industries?Well earlier youth, I suppose I was,
which was many years ago. Iwas a mechanic as a young person
while still in high school, andI realized that I didn't always think things
were being done in the best possiblefashion. So as a lot of people

(04:53):
think and sure I'm wrong, sometimesI wanted to do it my way.
So I started my little tiny companyin Ashland twenty plus years ago to attempt
to make that goal happen. Now, talk about specializing in hydraulics, I'm
sure that is something that takes sometime. Right when you're talking about I
mean that's very very important thing whenyou think about hydraulics, talk about maybe

(05:13):
the process. I'm sure it takeslonger than other projects, right, depending
on this, Yeah, it does, it does. It's a very specialized
field that requires a massive amount ofknowledge and training and of course equipment is
more than significant. That has takenus years to branch into and we have
multiple divisions there, so the onewe're conversing about now is predominantly hydraulics.
That you bring a cylinder in,we rebuild it. You bring a hose

(05:36):
in, we make you a newand while you wait, that type of
thing. But we're also an aerialrepair facility, so we're one of the
very very very few in Ohio thatwork on bucket trucks. So we are
anti certified to do that, whichis a many year training process to have
that certification. All right, terrificAgain, really cool to learn the story
of Shram Industries. Their president JoeShram, with us in studio this week's

(05:59):
CEO. You should know. Soagain, repairing a bucket truck, making
a hose. I'm sure that thelength varies in terms of that, but
you mentioned somebody could stop and say, hey, I need this a new
hose, that kind of thing, and you're able to do it on the
spot and they just kind of wait. Literally in a matter of minutes.
Yes, if they bring that in, we actually make it while they wait,
have a nice little conversation while we'redoing it, and in two to
five minutes you walk out with yournew hose and your equipment is back back

(06:23):
operational. Oh terrific. So wewould go back to you know, a
bucket truck something like that. What'sthe timeline there, I'm sure they're all
different. Well could very of course, depending on what repairs you need.
But we do everything top to bottomof it. So from the chassis side
of it, you know, ifyou have a four Dodge Chevy, doesn't
matter, international freightliner bucket truck. We repair that side of it and also
the bucket and aerial device itself. So that can be any timeframe. A

(06:46):
little hard to say. Now talkabout staff. I'm sure you number one
have to have good people to runa company like this, But if you
would, how many roughly people doyou? Guys? So we have thirteen
people currently, and I will takea second to say we have the best
people I've ever seen. It hastaken decades to acquire such wonderful humans and
they just do a top notch joball day, every day. I can't

(07:08):
can't say enough how proud I amof them. And you told me you
are also looking for good people. We are looking for more good people to
add to the team. Most certainly, we are looking for some mechanics right
now. And anybody that wants tobe absolute top tier in an industry that
most are not involved in, shouldstop by and have a conversation, all
right. So how do they getthat conversation going? Did they just stop

(07:28):
by the building on West Fores Street. Can they call webs? They could
certainly call in and the ladies upfront will give them all the information to
send in their resumes. And thatphone number is five sixty seven five six
to zero four seven seven six,all right, so make sure you call
that number. Stop on by.You mentioned have a conversation with Shram Industries,
who are hiring right now, allright. So before I let you

(07:49):
go, I get a few morethings I want to get to be in
a great conversation this morning, learningall about President Joe Shram of Shram Industries,
located on West Fores Street and Mansfield. Well, let's find out a
bit more about you. So wefound out where you're from in high school
at Saint Peter's. But yeah, you got some big news, I know,
family wise. So if you wouldshare about a wife and those kinds

(08:11):
of things, absolutely, So.I spent the way we got to this
point in businesses. I spent twentysomething years not attempting to get married and
not going down that road. Soluckily I met the love of my life
years ago, five years ago,and I've married Breed two and a half
years ago, and I'm extremely happyto say we are expecting our first child.
All right, So congratulations, sodo in November and thank you very

(08:31):
much. All right. Awesome tohear. All right, So when you
are not working, what kind ofhobbies what do you do in your spare
time? Joe Shram? Well, maybe not shockingly, it involves mechanically related
things most of the time. SoI love voting. Travel is great,
which we're doing a little less ofnow in preparation for the child, of
course, quite a bit of longcare and all that sort of stuff.

(08:54):
I like. It's relaxing, allright. So good to hear about Joe
Shram and the family before I letyou go to things I want to touch
on, and maybe this is mostimportant somebody that stops and sees you and
at Shram Industries, what makes youguys special? We talk about all the
great work you do and maybe notmany in the state do what you guys
do, but this is kind ofyour moment, you know, share with
our listeners what kind of makes youguys special. So what we try to

(09:16):
do is always identify the most importantneed in the local area. And what
that has been is that there wasnot a large enough facility to service everything
needed. So any hydraulic codes youneed, which is a bit of a
stretch, but almost any hydraulic CODsyou need would be in stock. We
stock over a million dollars in hydraulicsand fittings for all the most popular brands.

(09:39):
That would be one thing. Now, I could go on for an
hour about the things that I thinkcan make us special, but I think
the quality of workmanship and customer serviceis top tier, something I never become
lax about. It's very important tome in America. All right, Joe
Shram again with Shrame Industries. Now, if somebody wants to get more information,
they need you guys do some greatwork for him again? Could you

(10:01):
throw out website and phone number? How do they reach out? Absolutely so.
Our phone number is five six sevenfive six zero four seven seven six.
Now. Our website is Shram Industriesdot com, which is undergoing renovations
right now, so check back soonso we'll have a nice newly revamped website
than soon. Well, we're workinghard on all right. Terrific. Well,

(10:22):
