Rose (00:00):
Today we're diving into
something that's been on my
heart as we approach Valentine'sDay.
But we're going to flip thescript entirely.
You know, every year aroundthis time we're bombarded with
messages about romantic love, about finding the one, about
(00:22):
proving our worth throughexpensive gifts, elaborate
displays of affection andeverything else.
The energy becomes frantic, almost desperate, and I can feel
it affecting our collectivespirit.
But what if we took thisculturally charged day and
transformed it into somethingtruly sacred, something that
(00:45):
honors the most fundamentalrelationship we'll ever have,
the one with ourselves?
I've learned to change the wayI celebrate Valentine's Day long
ago.
I make it more about self-love.
I don't worry about makingreservations at a fancy place or
expect a card or a gift, and Idon't go out and search for
(01:05):
gifts and cards either.
I feel that if you're in arelationship, every day should
contain respect, love andappreciation for the person that
you're with.
And let's be realistic, it'snot always going to be great.
But the foundation is there, right, and love is there.
But by making it more aboutself-love, I'm taking the time
(01:28):
and sometimes I don't have allthe time the time to honor
myself and all that resideswithin me that makes me feel
complete.
For years, I was looking outsideof myself for answers or for
validation.
Right, all I needed to do waslook within.
It's great having a partner.
(01:51):
I love being married to myamazing husband for 22 years.
I feel truly blessed.
We have two beautiful childrenand we make it work right.
We have that balance and wemake it work right.
We have that balance.
But for many, many years Ididn't understand what true
(02:16):
self-love was, and now I do.
I want to share with you notjust the ritual I created, but
the deeper wisdom I've gatheredabout what it truly means to
love ourselves in a world thatoften makes that feel impossible
.
Truly means to love ourselvesin a world that often makes that
feel impossible.
Let's start by acknowledgingsomething important Self-love
isn't just a hashtag or atrending topic.
It's not about posting theperfect selfie, although those
(02:37):
are fun or treating yourself toexpensive spa days, although
those are great too.
True self-love is a practice,it's a commitment, and sometimes
it's even a revolution againsteverything we've been taught
about our worth.
Before we dive into thepractical rituals and ceremonies
(02:59):
, let's explore what genuineself-love looks like in action.
It's in the quiet moments whenyou choose to listen to your
body's wisdom instead of pushingthrough exhaustion.
It's in standing up foryourself in a difficult
conversation and we know thatthat can be hard.
(03:19):
Even our voice shakes.
It's in celebrating yourachievements, no matter how
small they might seem to others.
Let's talk about something thatoften gets overlooked in
discussions about self-loveShadow work.
Ah yes, this shadow work.
(03:43):
Loving yourself means embracingyour light, but it also means
making peace with your darkness, those parts of yourself that
you've been taught to hide, toshame, to deny.
They're waiting for you to lovetoo.
They're waiting for you to lovetoo.
(04:06):
I invite you to take a momentright now, wherever you are, to
place a hand on your heart Maybetwo hands on your heart.
Feel its steady rhythm.
This heart of yours has carriedyou through every joy, every
(04:34):
heartbreak, every triumph andevery failure.
It deserves your love, notbecause it's perfect, but
because it's yours.
Now let me guide you throughcreating your own self-love
ceremony.
It's about celebrating thecompleteness that already exists
within you.
Let's talk about creating asacred space.
(04:56):
This goes beyond justtightening up a corner of your
room.
Think of it as creating aphysical manifestation of your
inner sanctuary.
Start by finding a space, clearing the energy you can use
sage, palo santo, reiki, or evenjust open your windows and let
fresh air in and, as you do this, set the intention right.
(05:20):
Mine's usually something likethis space is dedicated to
honoring my complete and perfectwholeness.
Bring in elements that speak toeach of your senses.
So, for sight, I like to addcandles or lights.
I love little glittery lightsand that helps to create a
(05:40):
really nice embracing glow.
I love the glittering or theflickering of lights.
For smell, you can chooseessential oils or incense that
makes you feel centered, andpresent Some rose oil, some
lavender, whatever it is.
You can invite that scent in.
For touch, you can includetextures like nice soft cushions
(06:05):
or a cozy blanket, maybe a softrug underneath their feet.
And sound, how about a playlist, one that moves your soul?
For taste, prepare or gatherfoods and drinks that feel
nourishing and sacred to you.
Maybe a nice cocoa or tea?
I don't drink, but if youprefer a cocktail, go right
(06:31):
ahead.
Now let's explore the practiceof creating a self-love altar.
All right, so it's more thanjust arranging the beautiful
objects.
It's about creating a physicalrepresentation of your
relationship with yourself.
So you start with the cloth.
Put a nice cloth down.
(06:52):
Could be any color, any texture, it's just special to you and
it looks pretty.
Then gather the items thatrepresent the different aspects
of your journey that we justmentioned, including maybe a
photo of yourself from a timewhen you felt particularly
strong or joyful.
Objects from nature that speakto qualities you're cultivating,
(07:14):
perhaps a stone for strength ora feather for freedom.
I actually love feathers.
I collect them.
When they drop, I find them onthe ground.
They remind me of spirit andalso of freedom and flying,
which is I wish it was thesuperpower I had.
(07:34):
Something that also mayrepresent your dreams and
aspirations.
I'm writing a book and I wantit to be done, so I will have
either a copy of that book thereor the name of what the book
will be An object that alsosymbolizes forgiveness and
self-compassion, maybe a rose,maybe a cross.
(07:56):
Maybe a rose, maybe a cross anda mirror representing
self-reflection and acceptance.
And also have handy some paperand pen, because another nice
ritual that you can do if you'recomfortable is to write
yourself a love letter.
Find a quiet moment and abeautiful piece of paper,
(08:21):
something decorative or thetexture is just really nice.
Paper has different texture andbegin by addressing yourself by
name or use a term ofendearment you wish others would
use for you or that theyalready use for you.
Write about different things, like the challenges you've
overcome, maybe the way you'vegrown, something that you've
(08:44):
embraced recently, that you'vedone that you're proud of.
Write about your dreams.
Write about the love you giveothers and the unique gifts only
you can offer the world, andyou know what those are.
(09:08):
Now let's talk about body wisdomand movement practices.
You know I'm a yoga teacher anda Qigong instructor, so, and I
encourage you to find a movementpractice that supports where
you are, whether it's chair yoga, whether it's dance, dance
that's a great, great thing todo.
Move the body if it feels right.
(09:29):
Do Qigong if that feels betterfor you.
Whatever that practice is, movethe body a little bit, because
the energy will flow If you dosome open.
I call them open heart wings, where you bring or draw the
shoulders back, open up thefront of the chest, where your
heart is, and then close thearms in front and give yourself
(09:53):
a hug, and do that a few times.
Open the heart space and giveyourself a hug, and do that a
few times.
Open the heart space and giveyourself a hug.
Another ritual that you can doif you're comfortable is a body
blessing ritual, okay.
So if you have a mirror a longmirror, any mirror in front, you
(10:15):
can stand in front of it andthen you can look at it and
appreciate and honor each partof your body your feet for
carrying you forward, your handsfor creating and touching, your
heart for feeling deeply andyour mind for learning and
growing, really appreciate theentire being.
(10:39):
Another thing you can do andyou can do this towards the end
or at any time is a practice ofmeditation, of creating a
self-love garden in your mind ora scene where you find yourself
in a place that is nurturingfor you and comfortable for you
(11:02):
and grounding for you.
Whatever that is, I'm not goingto envision it for you.
You know where that is place,is where that sanctuary in your
mind is.
Close your eyes, unless you'redriving but close your eyes and
go there and visit it.
Make it a beautiful scene, findyourself in that special place
(11:30):
in your mind minds.
You can also choose to invitegood foods, healthy foods, in
this environment.
You can create a beautifuldinner for yourself or, if you'd
like to go out, you can do thatas well.
Nourishing yourself with goodfoods also feeds your soul.
(11:53):
I'm all about food healthyeating, but also feeling good,
and if this is a specialoccasion and you want to splurge
as far as calories or dessertsor something lush that you want
to eat, go right ahead.
I want to talk about creatingongoing practices that extend
(12:14):
beyond Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day is just one day.
Remember what I said every dayis about love and respect,
compassion, joy and self-loveisn't a destination.
It's really a journey.
It's a daily choice and it's aconstant return to yourself.
(12:34):
It's a daily choice and it's aconstant return to yourself.
Start a morning practice ofself-appreciation Before you get
out of bed.
Name three things you loveabout yourself.
How about creating a love notejar where you collect moments of
pride, of joy, ofaccomplishments throughout the
(12:55):
year?
Toss them in that jar.
I'm sure we have an empty jarlaying around.
I know I do Set regular dateswith yourself.
We've all heard that right.
Mark out time in your plannerwhen you want to do something,
whatever that is.
Now we're going to close with aheart opening meditation Once
(13:21):
again.
If you're driving, just listen.
You can always go back to itlater.
So, wherever you are in yourhome, find a comfortable
position Once again, push onehand on your heart and the other
one on your belly.
Take a deep breath in and asyou exhale, I want you to send
love to every cell on your belly.
Take a deep breath in and asyou exhale, I want you to send
(13:42):
love to every cell of your being.
Visualize a warm, golden lightemanating from your heart center
, spreading throughout yourwhole body With each breath.
Repeat silently I am complete,I am loved, I am love itself.
(14:09):
I choose myself, I honor myjourney.
Remember that true love isn'tfound in the commercial
trappings of Valentine's Day.
It's in the quiet moments ofself-recognition, in honoring
(14:30):
your journey, in celebratingyour wholeness.
You are not incomplete, waitingto be finished by someone
else's love.
You are already everythingyou're seeking.
I wish you a magicalValentine's Day.
(14:51):
I wish you a magical every day.
Magical Valentine's Day.
I wish you a magical every day.
And if this episode resonatedwith you, please share it with
someone who might need it, whomight need to hear this message.
Until next time, beautifulsouls, may you remember that you
(15:12):
are already whole, alreadyworthy and already deeply loved.
