I read the end of chapter 3, then all of 4 and 5. This is basically telling us that what we say is important. Wise speech and the power of the tongue in the Christian life can add value or destroy you. Life and power lies in what you say, think and do. James also speaks about maturity in humility and trust, and how Christians should live in the world. He tells us that Christians who are fighting and quarreling because they are living by the world's wisdom, which says to do whatever it takes to get what you want. James says that this is adultery and that Christians should repent and move closer to God. He also says that Christians should submit to God as His servants, rather than pursuing their own passions. James discusses maturity in the context of where we place our trust. He warns the wealthy of judgment and says that they are guilty of murder if they cheat their workers or withhold pay. James believes that God believes it is more important to look after the needs of others than our luxuries.
