Dive into the world of Oregon Pinot Noir with our exploration of Elouane, the exciting new project from winemaking prodigy Joe Wagner. Following his massive success with Meiomi (which he sold for hundreds of millions), Wagner brings his considerable talents to coastal Oregon vineyards with remarkable results.

The name "Elouane" combines two French words meaning "good light" – a perfect description for this luminous, beautifully crafted Pinot. Unlike wines that focus exclusively on Willamette Valley, this 2022 vintage sources grapes from southwestern, central, and northwestern coastal Oregon, creating a comprehensive taste of what the region has to offer.

What truly sets this wine apart is its stylistic departure from Wagner's previous work. While Meiomi embodied the bold, jammy New World approach, Elouane embraces a more traditional Burgundian profile – elegant, nuanced, and wonderfully balanced. Black cherry and plum notes lead the flavor parade, accompanied by subtle hints of cola, licorice, black pepper, herbs, and spice. The bright acidity creates a mouthwatering experience that keeps you coming back for more.

We were lucky enough to find this gem for just $12.99 (normally $22), making it an extraordinary value in today's market. This isn't your typical casual "patio pounder" – it's a thought-provoking wine that rewards attention while remaining wonderfully drinkable. Whether you're a dedicated Pinot enthusiast or just beginning to explore this noble grape variety, Elouane delivers a memorable experience that will have you wondering, "What was that delicious wine I had last week?" Speaker 1 (00:01):
hey, domain dave, cheap wine fightercom.
Again, like always, withanother wine review podcast.
Like we always do um threetimes a week, we write up value
priced uh wine review and thenwe plug in the fancy microphone
and here we are right now with awine, the elowain I think

(00:23):
that's how you pronounce itoregon pinot noir 2022.
Elouane is from the same guy,joe wagner, who made the miyomi
pinot noir line, and he is theson of chuck wagner, who is
camus, that famous world famous.
Actually cal, actuallyCalifornia wine.

(00:45):
Their Cabernet is one of themost sought after ones.
You know he makes good winesand actually each of the
children got their own winebrand and Joe did Miomi, which
he sold for several hundredmillion dollars.
Here's this new one.
This is Elouane.
Elouane, if I'm pronouncing itright, e-l-o-u-a-n is two French

(01:08):
words together.
That means good light and itrefers to the sun that shines
down on the vines in thevineyard and the divine light.
So you get both things goingthere.
So, so you got both thingsgoing there.
So it's both natural andspiritual.
So there you go, and it is ataste of Oregon.

(01:32):
This is not a Willamette Valleynecessarily.
He just like Meomi, I think.
What was Meomi?
It was Santa Barbara, montereyand Sonoma, I think, originally.
I don't think it is anymore.
It's been sold off, isn't it?
But this is southwesterncoastal Oregon, central coastal
Oregon and northwestern coastalOregon.

(01:55):
Willamette Valley is in thenorth, but this is a taste of
the whole area.
There is more to offer inOregon than just Willamette
Valley and especially if you'redoing a value price wine, it
doesn't really make sense tospend all your money on trying

(02:15):
to get Willamette Valley grapesyou know at a price you can
afford.
When you just go out and youget the best grapes you can,
that makes way more sense.
And you know, even though thenorthern Oregon might be deemed
as some of the best in the world, the other ones are no slouches

(02:36):
.
I'm going to take a sip.
This is classic Pinot Noir.
It's a touch jammy, but not toomuch.
It's a dry wine.
Whereas Miomi was the New WorldPinot Noir, big and bold, this

(03:04):
is more in line with theBurgundian wines.
It's got good length to it.
I don't think it.
The tasting notes didn't mentionany oak and if you have the
Pinot Noir, skins are kind ofare thin, they're not thick and
the tannins are in the skins.
But if you can get enoughtannins out of the skins.

(03:25):
You don't really need the oakunless you're looking for
flavoring.
And this one doesn't need anyextra flavor and it tastes
really good.
Yeah, I mean, as it opens upand I've been tasting this for a
while it's got really goodfruit flavor.

(03:46):
It's got really nice tartflavors here and there Smacks
your lip with good acidity.
It's got black cherry, it's gotplums.
There's a little bit of maybecola in there, maybe licorice,
black pepper, herbs, spice.
I mean you could pair this withyou know the usual suspects of

(04:08):
pairing with Pinot Noir.
This is a sipping wine.
This is a wine that you'resitting around and I keep on
thinking about it because it'snot quite warm enough yet.
But outside, friend comes overneighbors come over you and
whoever sitting around shootingthe breeze with a nice glass of
wine.
This is actually a glass ofwine that some of the times we

(04:31):
talk about patio pounders andstuff.
They're not wines that youreally that taste good, but you
really don't have to payattention to this one that you
probably should pay a little bitof attention.
It's got that much going onwhere you're going to.
You'll enjoy it more if youunderstand it better.
Take another sip, I found it for$12.99 on sale, I think.

(04:57):
On the website it's $22.
So this is no reallyinexpensive.
Being a noir, though I think, since last year was so bad with
the wine world and the spiritsworld everybody was having
problems with beer.
It took it worse than wine did.
You're starting to get somepretty good prices, so keep an

(05:20):
eye out Wine.
This might have been $16, $17 ayear ago and now it's $12 to
$13, which is a bargain.
I mean, it's definitely abargain.
It's a good tasting, well-made,memorable, because it's going
to be a wine you're going tothink what did I have last week?

(05:41):
Let's get that one again.
So there you go.
This is the Eloine Oregon PinotNoir 2022.
Good Light, the throw out toFrench.
It's made in the classic style, not the Miomi's New World Big,
bold style.
This is more long and lean andbeautiful.
So, adios, keep it cheap.

(06:02):
I've got a Lodi California Lodiwell, of course, lodi's
california, uh cabernetsauvignon coming up in a couple
days.
So we'll be doing that maybe, Idon't know thursday, friday,
and I'll be talking to her in acouple days.
So keep it cheap, adios, andI'll be talking to you.
Bye.
