Looking for the perfect summer wine that won't break the bank? We've uncovered a hidden gem that might just become your new warm-weather staple. At just $6.99, La Ferme Julienne Rosé 2023 from Trader Joe's delivers surprising complexity and refreshment that punches well above its modest price tag.

This French rosé comes with an interesting backstory. While it bears the Trader Joe's stamp, it's crafted by respected producer Familia Perrin specifically for the retailer. What makes it unique is how it's produced – using the saignée method, where juice is "bled off" during red wine production, giving this rosé more body and character than many of its peers. The blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Cinsault creates a harmonious balance that works beautifully when properly chilled.

Despite carrying the broader Vin de France designation rather than a specific regional appellation, this wine doesn't disappoint in the glass. It offers bright, refreshing acidity alongside enough flavor complexity to keep things interesting. We found it to be versatile enough to pair with summer staples like fresh salads, cold shrimp, or a diverse cheese board. The 2023 vintage drinks beautifully now, though the 2024 is also becoming available if you prefer the freshest option possible. Whether you're hosting friends or simply unwinding after a long day, this affordable French rosé proves that excellent wine experiences don't require emptying your wallet. Give it a try and let us know what you think of this remarkable value find!

Speaker 1 (00:03):
hey, welcome a still main day from cheap wine fighter
.
Calm again, like always.
And today we've got a 699 winethat is Trader Joe's, but not
really Trader Joe's.
I'll explain that in a second.
This is a family Julian Rose a2023.

(00:23):
It is made for them by FamiliaPerrin, a very, very large wine
producer in France, and it'savailable in retail shops under
the exact same name.
And the reason I don't know whyit might be a Trader Joe's

(00:45):
exclusive the fearless flyer fortrader joe's says that the
blend is syrah, grenache, senso.
If you go to uh family paren'swebsite for the same name, there
it's senso, grenache syrah.
The grapes are in a differentorder.
So it's so you're hoping whenyou're supposed to.

(01:11):
When you write about a wine, you write the largest proportion
, first, second, third.
That's how it's supposed to beand hopefully that's what Trader
Joe's did.
Otherwise they're exactly thesame, but I think they're a
little bit different becausethey did say this is a wine that
they've had made for them forthe last three years.
So I think this is a specialbottling.
You might like one better thanthe other.

(01:33):
You might not be able to tellthe difference, but if you
change wine you can usually tellthe difference.
I'm gonna take a sip.
This is a wine that isn't.
It's a Vin de France wine, which means it's from all over.

(01:58):
It's not IGP, it's not Vin dePaz, it's not AOC.
It's kind of a Frenchequivalent to having you know
California on the label, whichmeans it could be from pretty
much anywhere in California.
That's not something that theFrench do.
The French are all aboutterroir.
The location is important, sothat's a little bit different

(02:20):
here and then it's not from onearea.
But they do sell a lot of thisand I imagine they had to add to
where they're getting theirgrapes from.
So it's not bad, unless thewine turns out bad, and it
didn't.
This is a senny.
Senny, it's one of those wordsthat I've only seen written and

(02:44):
never had anybody pronounce.
For me.
It is the way of.
It's one of the two main waysof making um, a rosé, and what
this is is they're making a redwine.
I just they're doing everything, like when they're crushing the
grapes and all that.
They're doing it as if it's ared wine and it, when the grapes

(03:06):
become a certain color, theythey run off part of that,
usually a good, a goodpercentage of whatever it is to
become a rosé.
So it's basically stopped frombeing a red wine and turned into
a rosé.
And what that does?
It concentrates the flavors ofthe red wine and it makes a

(03:29):
little bit of a bolder rosé,because some rosés are meant to
be rosés from the get-go.
This was born a red wine and itwas changed slightly after birth
, which is kind of a gross wayof talking about it.
So what we have here, let'staste it.

(03:49):
It's $6.99 and it's um and it'sreally good.
It's got a nice nose, brightand refreshing.
It's got good acidity gives aflavor, almost complexity.
There's a lot of flavor inthere, all of the subtle to rosé

(04:10):
.
It's not to hit you over thehead with this flavor, but it's
um, it tastes pretty good andfor $6.99 this you know there's
rosé.
Well, rosé is um.
At one time it was flavor ofthe month and my local wine shop
used to have a um, a rose aisle, rosé aisle that was like 10
yards long, and now it's 10 feetlong.

(04:32):
It's kind of slowed down therush to rosé.
But this $6.99 rosé is goodenough to be your rosé of the
summer.
It's got good acidity, it's gotgood flavor, it's well made.
Its provenance isn't all thatexciting.
You see how it's made and yougo hmm, I don't know about this,
but once you open up the bottleand take a sip and you put a

(04:57):
nice chill on it and it's likeman, this is pretty good.
So there you go it's a $6.99wine that might be a little bit
different in the retail shopthan it is a Trader Joe's I
think they're both.
$6.99 at Trader Joe's is kindof low, but I think you can get
this at sale at a retail shopfor something close.
That's a pretty little Frenchrosé.

(05:17):
It's got enough body to piqueyour interest.
I mean, if you're going to havea, you're going to need salads
with this cold shrimp, that typeof stuff If you want to, or a
cheese tray, you know that kindof thing.
It'll do well there because itdoes have flavor.
Good flavor goes with good food.

(05:37):
Let's get another sip of it andwe'll hit the road.
Yep, that's it for me.
Domain Dave fightercom.
La ferme julienne rose 2023.
The 2024 is out, as usual withthese inexpensive wines getting

(05:58):
the newest ones usually the best, but 2023 will probably be just
as good.
I don't think you can tell thedifference, but try not to get
anything any older vintage thanthat, and I'll be talking to you
in a couple of days, likealways, because hopefully we'll
get some warm weather before toolong, and that always what's
the pout.
So, adios, keep it cheap andI'll be talking to you.

(06:19):
Adios, bye-bye.
