Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, welcome, it's
Domain Dave CheapWineFightercom.
Another one of the wine reviewswe do.
It's getting to be almost timefor Easter and the Easter feast
and actually the wines forEaster are pretty much the same
as the wines for Thanksgiving.
But what can you do about that?
(00:24):
They're all good and what wehave today is a wine I found at
costco though it isn't a costcowine, you can find it elsewhere
and it's not all that muchcheaper at costco.
I don't remember exactly whatit paid for, it was under 15 the
raymond prune essence.
Essence Moselle Riesling 2023.
(00:45):
The Prüm winery in the Moselleregion.
The family goes back to the1100s and the winery itself goes
back to the 1850s.
Raymond Prüm is the dad of thecurrent owner.
His daughter now runs it.
This is one of his wines.
(01:09):
The Moselle is a river valley.
It comes from France and itruns into Germany for a hundred
and something miles.
It's the Rhine and then theRhine.
It goes into the ocean and it'sa deep river valley.
I mean that the sides are steep.
It is permeated the with slatewhich they said is from a floor
(01:35):
of a huge ocean from a couplemillion years ago.
And it's still there.
And you know, the slate is soprized that if there's a storm
coming through on the slatethere can be big chunks of slate
.
When it falls down the hillthey go and pick it up and put
it back to where it was.
It's very steep.
(01:57):
Often it's mechanicallyharvested grapes, but they said
this one is 100% man and harvest.
I'm gonna take a sip becauseit's good in my glass hold on.
The Moselle is said to be thebest place in on earth for de
(02:20):
groin Riesling grapes and I haveheard wine experts who know a
whole lot more than I do saythat it is a better growing
region than Napa, than parts ofBordeaux, than the Piedmont.
I mean, what it does forRiesling is better than what any
other one does any othergrowing region does for their
(02:40):
grapes.
So this is good.
Now the Essence, the PruneEssence Moselle Riesling is a.
There's different qualityratings and it's a decent
quality.
It's not like a table wine oranything, but it's not the fancy
(03:01):
ones where they got the name ofthe vineyard on it and, matter
of fact, um, this isn't all umfrom vineyards.
They buy it from local growers.
But the one thing they do forlocal growers because they they
don't use um, they don't usefertilizers and they don't use,
(03:21):
um you know, insect repellentsand that type of thing.
Everything is vegan, but Idon't think it's vegan rated,
not vegan.
Everything is organic and it'svegan.
So when they buy from a grower, they buy the entire yield of
their vineyard, so they actuallycontrol it by buying everything
.
So, rather than getting alittle bit of this vineyard here
(03:44):
and a little bit of thatvineyard there, where the
vineyard owner is the one doingeverything, here are the
vineyards.
If you want that done in yourbottom, I'll do it for you, no
problem, we'll be organic, we'llbe actually vegan is in the
growing region.
The wine is vegan because at thefining region, at the very end,
when they get all the yeast andall the grape bits out of the
(04:06):
wine, they would typically use acompound with the egg whites
that would collagulate.
Did I say that?
Right, all the lumps and bumps, which is the best way of doing
it?
But you can use mineralsotherwise, and that's what they
do.
When they use minerals, thenit's no eggs, so it's then vegan
.
I'm gonna take another sip.
(04:29):
It is medium dry, which meansit's a little bit sweet, and
that isn't a bad thing, especially when these wines that
have a pretty good acidity tothem.
The sugar and the aciditybalance each other out to where
you get this nectar.
(04:49):
Like you get a really ripepiece of fruit and you bite into
it, you don't go oh, it tasteslike candy.
You get nectar, sweetness to itand that's what the flavors are
here, and the flavors for thisRiesling are all very easily
identified.
There's peaches and pears andtangerines and nectarines and
that type of thing.
(05:09):
There's a touch of sweetness toit, uh, like candy spice in
there, but, like I said, itdoesn't.
You don't get the.
This isn't a.
It's on the sweeter side, butit's not a sweet wine at all and
it's actually it's 10.5.
On the alcohol, it's low alcohol.
So if you're having guests oneaster and you don't want to,
(05:29):
you want to lower the alcohol.
You want something that maybethey're not wine drinkers and
this is like very easy.
This is very easy to understandif you're not into wine.
There's no rough edges or lumpsand bumps here.
Just take another sip and it'sjust simple.
It's easy to drink, easy totaste.
(05:51):
It's got enough oomph in it.
A ham would be just fine, aslong as you're not serving food
that's too over the top wouldhave drowned it out.
It would probably do well andprobably cut through.
It's got enough city to cutthrough and cleanse your palate
all the, all the things thatwine supposed to do.
This would do.
(06:12):
So there you go.
This is a wine that would workreally well on a, you know,
chill it and patio.
You know, sit outside and havea drink with your friends.
It'd be great.
It'll work for Easter, it'llwork for actually, if you
remember, thanksgiving.
It should be around $15.
It's a good wine.
(06:32):
It's from a winery.
It's been around for a longtime, knows how to make Riesling
from one of the best Rieslingareas in the whole world, if not
the best.
So there you go.
That's Raymond Proulx MoselleRiesling 2023.
This is Domain Davecheapwinefindercom.
Like us, we like your podcastand keep it cheap, and I'll be
(06:52):
talking to you in a couple ofdays.
Sooner or later we'll warm up.
Adios, bye-bye.
