Step into the world of affordable French wine excellence with our latest tasting adventure! We're exploring a genuine Burgundian Pinot Noir that defies expectations at just $11.99 from Trader Joe's. The Divergué Taboureau Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2023 represents an incredible opportunity to experience authentic French winemaking from the spiritual homeland of Pinot Noir without the premium price tag usually associated with wines from this prestigious region.

What makes this bottle particularly fascinating is how it embodies traditional Burgundian winemaking philosophy with its restrained 12.5% alcohol content - a stark contrast to many California Pinot Noirs that push 14-15%. The result is a subtly complex wine that might seem shy at first sip but reveals layers of delicate cherry notes and surprising length as you continue to enjoy it. This represents the classic European approach that prioritizes elegance and food compatibility over bold fruit and high alcohol.

The historical credentials behind this bottle add another dimension of interest. The producer's roots trace back to 1868 when two families joined through marriage to establish the winery, which operated under family ownership until 1925. While this particular bottling appears to be produced specifically for retailers like Trader Joe's, it maintains authentic Burgundian character that makes it perfect for Easter ham pairings, summer afternoon sipping on the patio, or any occasion where you want a versatile, food-friendly red that won't overwhelm your palate or your wallet. Give this affordable French gem a try and discover what makes traditional Burgundian Pinot Noir so special without spending a fortune!

Speaker 1 (00:02):
hey, welcome it's domain, dave.
Cheap wine fightercom again.
Um, we're doing wine reviews.
This is april.
We're kind of doing kind ofeaster ones sort of today.
We have a 11.99 trader joe's umfrench pinot noir, uh, from
Burgundy.
Its name is Divergué Taboureau, bourguenay Pinot Noir 2023.

(00:29):
That's three French words in arow that I probably
mispronounced each one of them.
Bourguenay is, and it's spelledhere, b-o-u-r-g-o-g-n-e.
That's how the French pronounceand spell the region.
We in the United States call itBurgundy, and I read somewhere
that every country has adifferent name for Burgundy for

(00:52):
whatever reason.
I'm not quite sure why, andsince they're all in foreign
languages, I didn't want toremember any of them.
So this is a Pinot Noir fromBurgundy, which is the kind of
like the home of both Chardonnayand Pinot Noir, and it's also
the home of the most expensiveChardonnays and Pinot Noir in
the world, though this one is.

(01:14):
Well, it's an AOC, which is thesolid level of wine in the
French hierarchy of wine, wherethey designate different levels.
That it's only Burgundy, onlyfrom Burgundy, means it's kind
of like a general from theregion.
They break it up into differentregions and then there's

(01:34):
different towns and there's crew, and this is like the lowest of
the good level.
And there you go.
And the most expensive.
French Pinot Noirs are some ofthe greatest wines in the world
and they don't really bring alot of the other wines into the

(01:57):
United States.
For one thing, california doesa really good job on wine and
value price Pinot Noir where theFrench don't want to be,
especially in Burgundy, theydon't want to be your value wine
produced, they want to sell youthe $500 wines.
I'm gonna take a sip of this oneand this is for that, for
Easter.

(02:17):
The wine selections for bothEaster and Thanksgiving are
about the same, because the isturkey, which is a mild meat,
and Easter is ham, and ham canbe cooked different ways to make
it bolder or milder.
But Pinot Noir with its cherrymain cherry flavors, go with

(02:38):
both.
I'm going to take a sip.
It's a subtle wine, good length, the flavors are subtle but
they kind of grow in you as itgoes along.

(02:59):
You go.
Hmm, this is a little bit shy,but it's not.
Once you take the second andthird sip it actually it's
actually quite tasty.
One thing about this is it's12.5 in the alcohol, which is
what for years that's like PinotNoir was never supposed to go

(03:20):
above that.
Alcohol adds body to a wine.
In a solid French Burgundianstyle, pinot Noir Did not have a
lot of alcohol to it.
I mean Miomi can be 15.2 orsomething, and California,
because it gets warm, eventhough when they're doing it in
the Burgundian style, which mostof the Pinot Noirs are, at
least the old school ones arethe newer ones that follow Miomi

(03:40):
.
Don't that follow me on me,don't?
They're 14, some 13, 5, 14.
So this one's got the body ofthe traditional pinot noir.
Uh, dervigay tabarro, which isthe, uh, the name on the label.
They were a, um, a Burgundywinery founded in 1868.

(04:04):
Two families married togetherand the husband and wife, one,
was the, and they ran it until1925 after they both passed away
and it was sold to anotherperson and the people who bought
it I have all the links in thewebsite review on

(04:24):
cheapwinefindercom and theystill make it and that winery is
still here and they're inBurgundy and they have the full
array of all their wines andtheir crews and everything else.
They're a good winery.
This seems to be the label theyuse for maybe store brands and
private brands, to be the labelthey use for maybe store brands

(04:45):
and private brands you don't see.
I mean, you see other otherlabels, other bottlings, but you
know this is not something thatthey have on their own website.
So it's a pretty nice, subtletasty Pinot Noir in the old
style and it's a style that mostof the major California wine
producers follow.
Though California it's a lotwarmer, they can't follow it all

(05:08):
the way.
It would pair well with the meal.
At 12.5, it's not too muchalcohol.
It does have enough acidity tocut through all the things you
need to do like cut through thepalate.
It brings something really kindof fresh and because it's

(05:30):
subtle, it makes you kind of gowhat is that?
What is that?
Which is kind of cool for a $12wine.
I mean, it really kind ofbrings you in a little bit and
really great as an outdoor patiopounder.
You know I'm on a hot day.
This is this low alcohol.
You know light to medium-bodiedred wine would just really cut

(05:51):
it and do well.
So it's the Du Verguet TableroBourguignon Pinot Noir 2023.
At $11.99 for the bourguignon,it's cheap, it's good.
I would take a look if you werewhere you.
This is Domain Day.
Keep's cheap, it's good.
I would take a look if you wereI were you.
This is Domain Day.
Keep it cheap and I'll talk toyou in a couple days.
Bye-bye.
