Speaker 1 (00:00):
Your love line.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Countdown, Jem, that's your boy back for more.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Phoebe's counting down the biggest songs in the country and
around the world, as voted by you. All right here baby, Hello,
it's Gem hanging out with your for your Saturday night
on the show. British Nigerian artist Ashley Yellow. He is
hanging out and he's also got some big news and

(00:25):
also brand new. She's back, Miss Britney spears with Will
I Am fifty to fifty. Of course, the Barbie film
was released this week finally all right now coming in
and number twenty is Australian artist Chloe her brand new
single Flight Risk on Club I'm Countdown with Gem. That

(00:47):
is Cape pop girl group fifty to fifty with Barbie
Dreams from the Barbie soundtrack on Club I'm Countdown with
Gem and can you believe the film is finally out
this week? I was pretty disappointed in myself. Out of
all the I should have worn pink. I forgot to
wear it. On release day everyone was wearing pink. When
I even went to the shops, everyone was wearing pink
and I was like, oh my god, don't know how

(01:08):
I missed that memo but I did have pink mouth,
so I guess that counts. Maybe you've seen the movie
or you're gonna go and see it. The reviews have
been amazing. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm seeing
it in a few days. Let me know what you
think if you have seen it. Club, I'm countdown with
gem on Socials and of course it stars Margot Robbie,
Ryan Gosling and the soundtrack as well, it's huge. It's

(01:29):
got songs on there from Charlie XDX, The Kidler, Roy,
Sam Smith, Amomax and heathsmore. And I'm super excited to
introduce you to British Nigerian artist Asha Yellow. He's based
in America and he's so talented. He writes, producers and
sings his own music. And he was also up for
Rookie of the Year this year at the Dennis Pop
Awards and he got recognized by some of the biggest

(01:52):
songwriters and producers in the industry. Hey ashell, welcome to
the show, he and congratulations on your brand new scener
I missed you. It is such an amazing song. What
was it like working on it?

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Even when you listen to it, you can tell like
it has like so many different like flavors in it,
and it kind of like separates into three different kind
of genres kind of. So it starts out sing a songwriter,
then it goes pop, then it goes hip hop.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
So it was really like experimental in that sense. But
I really had fun with that and it.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Makes it stand down and it's like very unique as well.
And how long ago did you write this song?

Speaker 2 (02:29):
A year and a half ago.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
I only got up until the second chorus, so I
actually went through four different outros. There's this one night
where I had this dream and was dreaming about the
song for some reason.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Then I just heard this.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Thing in my head and I was like, oh, that
could be the answer, And I literally got out of
bed at like three am and just put it down
and then woke up and I was like, this is
like the way to go and ended up being kind
of a hip hop so I feel so it was
really unique in that sense, Like when it came to
all the writing, like I knew I had to tell
this story which is just all about how the personification
of chaos and stress and pain and making.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
It be kind of this being. That's kind of saying
like I.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Missed you You're back now kind of thing, and that
was just it was a fun, unique kind of perspective
on that kind of topic.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
You've been busy working on heaps and new music. When
are we going to hear it?

Speaker 3 (03:20):
There's a lot of really cool opportunities that have come up,
and so I'm wanting to kind of put them out
at like a later date, because I mean, recently, I've
been fortunate to get this amazing opportunity to work with
Runny Jerkins and for his next album, there's like this
album project coming out within the Artists and he's producing
the whole project's dark Child.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Oh dark Child, Yeah, Oh my god. He's huge. He's fine.
He's from Spy Skills, Say My Game, Destiny Child, and
this iconic song from Beyonce and Lady Gaga that is
so exciting that you're working with him, Like like in
the songs that he does, he has like that signature

(04:03):
dark chart.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. So he's got that thing going.
So it's kind of like I always want to focus on.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
That and then I'll just have these other songs that
you've heard. Luck at you, they'll they'll come out of Actually,
so I'm having to release for sure by the end
of this year.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Yeah, that's so exciting. I'm so happy for you, like
working with someone like Dance Child, Like, that's such a
cool experience for you and you'll learn so much as well.
You went on a songwriting camp as well in Sweden.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Was it was earlier this year?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
So yeah, I've been working actually in a lot of
KPart for the past like almost nine months now, and
it was like a straight week of just pumping out songs.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
I believe I ended up with five six four days
of actually making songs and then on the fifth day it.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Was wrapping them up and the sixth day was like
showing them and getting feedback and stuff.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
So yeah, it was. It was really really fun though.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, that would have been such a good experience, especially
like it's different to like your music because it's cool
that you are experimenting with K pop.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
As well, for sure, And I think, honestly it's influenced
a lot of kind of how I'm thinking about music,
to be honest, because I'm like now an avid K
pop fan.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yes, although it's called k pop, it's pretty much every
genre ever in one place. It's just they happen to
speak Korean.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
So I think it's really really fun in that sense,
like being able to just be super free and creating
amazing songs. And so I've learned that I can apparently
rap now from making demos and things for these groups.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
I love that. It's good that you're trying different things
as well. Are you ready for a rapid round of questions?
What is your favorite show to binge watch?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
My hero Academia?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
What is this song stuck in your head right now?

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Bills?

Speaker 1 (05:45):
And if you can eat anything for the rest of
your life, what would it be? Sushi?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
That's probably the most basic answer.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
And describe your music in three.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Words cinematic, yeah, emotional.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
And fine yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
And what is your favorite social media And.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I would say Instagram threads is interesting now it's weird.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
It's like a combination of Twitter and Instagram.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
I know, it's very interesting. I'm curious to see where
it goes.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Who are some artists that inspire you?

Speaker 3 (06:18):
GiB me on Buzzy, I'll say, I.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Remember last time we chatted, you said Gibby on as well.
And what's something you like to achieve this time next year?

Speaker 3 (06:30):
I would love to be opening for someone. I think
I'm at that point now, like I've worked so hard
on you know, all the music and all the creative stuff,
and I'm starting to kind of figure out what i
want my life set to look like.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
And that'll be so exciting. Like even already you've achieved
so much with what you're doing, and even like with
your nomination for Rookie of the Year, like that was
so cool.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Yeah, I'm very, very very happy about that, and like
this is so awesome, like all the support I've gone
just from people in the industry.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
So I'm just excited.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
My song I Love You, which I did with amazing
Armenian artist, Like the song got number one in our media.
