Your ability to move your ideas and your business forward (become unstuck) has lots to do with your community. Relationships are some of the most important resources in your business. Relationships help you build capacity and move forward. But, it's not always clear who to trust. That's where community comes in. Community creates standards and expectations of individuals in their relationships with others. Community is a layer of insurance in your important relationships.

We talked about what it means to be a world builder before we got into the meat of the conversation. Dr. Kimberly reminded Contessa about a story she shared about playing with paper dolls and creating her own community as a young child. Like Contessa, many of you were created to be world builders, to be chaos and to disrupt systems that aren't working.

We also talked about:

  • Mentoring Is About Being A Glue For Each Other
  • Most Advice About Community Building is TRASH
  • Your Old Ways Of Thinking Is Keeping You Stuck
  • Chaos Is Not Anarchy But A Way To Create A Living, Dynamic Community
  • What is Community Value?

Chaos Theory
At the centre of Chaos Theory is the fascinating idea that order and chaos are not always diametrically opposed. Chaotic systems are an intimate mix of the two: from the outside they display unpredictable and chaotic behaviour, but expose the inner workings and you discover a perfectly deterministic set of equations ticking like clockwork.

Some systems flip this premise around, with orderly effects emerging out of turbulent and chaotic causes.

How can order on a small scale produce chaos on a larger scale? And how can we tell the difference between pure randomness and orderly patterns that are cloaked in chaos?

The answers can be found in three common features shared by most chaotic systems.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
