How can conversations become even more crucial in the age of AI, chat, and GPT tools? As technology advances, our need for human interaction only grows stronger – especially between leaders and their employees. In this eye-opening episode, we share valuable insights from a recent conference in San Diego and explore how platforms like Zoom and Webex have transformed the way we connect and build relationships.

We also dive into an anecdote about a friend in the publishing industry, emphasizing the importance of validating emotions during conversations and the potential consequences of being dismissive. As AI and chat GPT tools continue to save us time, it's vital for leaders to invest that extra time to engage in meaningful dialogues with their teams. Don't miss this essential discussion on the power of conversation in our ever-changing technological landscape.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
The world has really changed and this is going to be
one of my favorite episodes, andthis is really about how do we
go about being aware of thething called chat, gpt and AI
and its impact.
Now, the title of this episodeis why conversations have never

(00:20):
been more important.
When I think about everythinggoing on in the world, i think
about our ability, our need toconverse with one another.
Recently, i was talking at theATD conference in San Diego,
which was just a fantastic eventand I'll never forget.
When I got home, a client saidto me geez, artificial

(00:42):
intelligence, chat, gpt, it'sgoing to change everything.
It's not going to changeeverything At the end of the
year or when evaluations aredone.
An AI tool or a chat GPT toolshould never do an end of the
year, evaluation or discussion.
Human interaction always goes upwhen technology goes up.
Our need for human interactiongoes up when technology grows.

(01:05):
Let me give you a case in point.
When the pandemic hit, whathappened?
Started to use this thingcalled Zoom, breakout rooms,
webex.
We could have greater cadence,we could develop virtual
relationships, just like.
Out in San Diego, i met a bunchof people that I had never met
face-to-face yet.
It was like a continuation of arelationship.

(01:27):
It wasn't anything new.
You typically heard people sayJesus, great to finally meet in
person, meaning we had arelationship.
How did we have a relationship?
We had conversations virtually.
Yet even with the proliferation, the growth of that technology,
what were people saying?
It's so great to be back inperson.

(01:48):
Chat, gpt and AI, which we use,is important.
It's going to provideincredible opportunity.
Yet the one thing it is notgoing to replace, nor should it
ever replace, is the interactionbetween people, specifically
between the leader and somebodythat they are managing or
coaching.
If anything, chat, gpt and AIshould increase people's time

(02:13):
availability to converse.
Yet people have an impressionit's going to replace everything
.
If we ever have an AI tool or achat tool, do the end of the
year for employees, i promiseyou those employees will try to
find employment elsewhere.
We have to sit down with theirpeople.
We have to converse with them.

(02:34):
We have to be in a state ofmind of listening to our people
where they want to go.
Yes, there's always going to betools to do assessments and to
discover and to find out things, yet nothing ever will replace,
ever will replace our need forhuman interaction.

(02:57):
I was talking to somebody andthis is one of my favorite
things and I just did a video onthis in LinkedIn and I have a
friend in the publishingbusiness and does editing work
and she went to her boss and shesaid look, i'm looking at this
Chat GPT tool.
Are you familiar with it?
He said oh yeah, and he kind ofwas very cavalier and she said
her job's at risk and hechuckled.

(03:19):
He goes oh no, no, no, don'teven let it bother you.
And he ended the conversation.
Now we don't want to dissectevery conversation, but let's
dissect some conversations.
She entered that meeting, thatget-together, with incredible
concern and stress.
Now, void of intention orsomething is why you are
stomach-sopbing us.
But you know how, pasar, tomorrow is the weekend, right,
so it's simple.
Like you're just near axialpressure and like to do three

(03:39):
different spots and Juicefraternity And that's
juxtaposition and intuition.
He gave the perception ofdismissiveness Don't let it
worry you.
And he got up and he walkedaway.
What he said was in hisintention was your feelings
aren't that important, you'reoverreacting.
About a week later, they startedto look at some of the chat

(04:02):
editing tools that are out thereAnd everybody in the room got
concerned.
She looked over at her boss, who was in the meeting, and his
eyes got big.
He really didn't understandwhat he was talking about.
So my friend immediatelystarted to look for different
opportunities and started toexplore using this tool for her

(04:24):
own benefit And said don't fightthe technology, find a way to
embrace the technology.
Yet in that conversation shefelt invalidated.
Now I don't know her boss.
She has only spoken highly ofhim In that moment.
He was dismissive.
He disregarded her feelings.
That conversation had aprofound impact on my friend.

(04:48):
Now it's a lot like going up tosomeone and saying geez, that
dress or that jacket looksterrible, you should never wear
that.
And someone says later oh, myintention wasn't to make you
feel bad, yet we can make peoplefeel bad.
The key to what we're goingthrough is when technology goes

(05:11):
up, so does the need forconversation.
When our conversations go up,we have the ability to retain
and develop top talent.
If AI and chat GPT are going tosave us time and they will, and
they are so does our timeavailability to converse with
their employees go up.
