It's just absolutely fantastic.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Thought some of it. We made it. It was it
was a track, but we made it.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
We're here, We're here in Spain. What a you know what?
Actually I thought the flight, the travel would have been
a little challenging, but it was actually pretty smooth flight.

Speaker 7 (01:24):
Yeah, little turbulence, but not bad.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
I had a nice little comfortable leg room and I
wasn't able to sleep.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
You've been on a roll, you have, which you mean?
I mean, you've just been feeling yourself from the start.
Everybody else is tired, and you're like, nah, I.

Speaker 7 (01:37):
Love that Spain.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
Man, you gotta be ready. You gotta bring the energy
at the start of the week. And you know what,
I feel bad in my my my partner in crime smooters.

Speaker 7 (01:45):
Now here, he's on entry reserve.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
I don't feel at all.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
I don't know man, next man, I don't feel bad.
He's French anyway, I'm Spanish.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Are you Spanish?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
No?

Speaker 7 (01:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:57):
I was like, in fact, Jack, in fact fast expect
a home here. But guys, man, this is is exciting.
You know the first time that the NFL has been
in Spain, Madrid or.

Speaker 7 (02:12):
We played in Barcelona.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
It was lead in Barcelona, but like being in Madrid, Man,
I got off the plane like ready to go, and
I think we saw the buses come in this morning.
I think with the Dolphins that came in this morning.
So we landed at well like five four am.

Speaker 7 (02:25):
But we were ready.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
We were looking for our rental car. We couldn't find it. Man,
But as we were walking across Waits the dolphins, yes,
all the dolphins coming in. Commanders got in this morning.
What is the When do you guys ever play overseas?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
I never played overseas. I got bumped, I got cut
before we played here in twenty sixteen, and I got
cut in Houston before we played two two days before,
so that was tough. So never never been overseas. This
the first time been in Spain though.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
So first time in Spain. But I did play when
I was at the Patriots. We played in London. We
played played, I played, We played the Buccaneers.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
And I thought that was like after you retired, Man.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
No, no, that was we played the Buccaneers. Yeah, sorry, Joy,
But the coolest thing because it was like you walk
in the stadium, it was like twenty I saw like,
oh I think I saw my dad's jersey, and it
was like every type of jersey you could think of it,
like Walter Payton, Lawrence Tailor, uh, the new Guys, Terrell Owens,

(03:20):
Donovan McNabb, and then of course you had our team,
we were the Patriots, and it was a whole bunch
of TV twelves in the stands. But it was it
was pretty interesting that it was like really not one
fan base like Tampa and the Patriots were playing. You
thought you would have seen more Patriots Pats fans or
more Bucks.

Speaker 7 (03:37):
Now it was everything in the stadium.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
I'm curious though, I think the fan bases in Europe
have gotten a little bit more specific and a little
bit more directed, you know, like when you see these
games internationally now it's like, you know, when Jacksonville plays here,
there are Jacksonville fans in.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
The stands away from home.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
That's absolutely right. So I'm kind of curious to see
how it distributes tomorrow, Like if it's like he's talking
about where there's a bunch of different jerseys or people.
There are Commanders fans, there are Dolphins there. Uh, kind
of like in droves.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
Well, I had a lot of folks from home talking
about they were looking forward to coming up to Spain.
So I expect a lot of our fans to be
here living, you know, living it up.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
Yeah it's beautiful, man. I've been blown away by Spain
so far. So yeah, it'd be a great opportunity to
catch a game and see some historic sites.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Also, shout out to there. He is Ryan. He loaded
up in a huge van.

Speaker 5 (04:24):
Yes, he got us here.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Just we loaded up in a van. He's been driving
us around Madrid. Almost had a couple of recks. He
got us here safe and sound. Now, Yo, we wouldn't.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Be and he's and that. I was a little nervous
at first. We had a few incidents.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
We almost killed one person, but everyone's fine.

Speaker 7 (04:41):
I noticed you put your seatbelt onto you.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
I was like, nobody else trapped in. I was like, well,
at it in.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
Yeah, I knew. I knew Ryan had it. I knew
I knew he was a guess. I wouldn't worry.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
So before we lock into the Dolphins, let's let's look
look back a little bit at what we saw against
the Lions, which is, do we have to if we
have to, but we.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Should probably should.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Okay, here we go.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
So when you're at a point where, look, let's be honest,
things are not trending well right now, I'm trying to
put this in a way that people get frustrated, and
I understand that.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
But where do you start when things are sort of
broken and you.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Need to put everything back together again?

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Yeah, I think when you look at the defensi side
the football, I feel like that's what you're talking about
more because I think when you look at the offensive side,
there are some things like Marcus did some good things.
The offensive line played well. I thought Trailing Burks, even
though he didn't make the trip this week, did some
good things. Kind of there were some flashes from the
offenses say that's a tenable solution. I think Cliff did
a good job of kind of finding some solutions on
the defense side of the football. Like it's tough, man,

(05:40):
it's really really tough. And I think the thing that
is so frustrating is it's not why you can't point
to one thing and be like, this is what they're
good at. This is the thing that we can kind
of get back to home base with. It's like we
kind of got to look at the whole thing and
re evaluate it, which is extremely kind of overwhelming, you
know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
So and I think you say, what do you begin?
I think it began as with honesty, and it's what
there is a fine line between talking bad about the
team but being very honest about our situation. Yep, we're
banged up guys. Injury, oh Trey Thomas, that hurt me
with breaking. I mean, we have so many We can
get into injuries later, but it starts well, we aren't

(06:16):
very good at all. And to Logus's point, there's nothing
that you're gonna like put your finger on, like this
guy or this group is not tackling well. And we
made excuse Stralia we weren't tackling well, but we just
weren't haven't been good.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
And again, like there are some injury things. But I
think that's the thing, is that like maybe that's where
you get back to home basis, Like can we just
get back to like the fundamentals of football. Can we
start fitting runs correctly correctly? Can we make sure we're
tackling correctly in the back end? Can we make sure
we're communicating effectively and again there were signs of that
versus Kansas City specifically in that first half. You say,
that's that's the kind of Commanders football we're looking for.

(06:50):
We just haven't been able to get back to that.
So you're just hoping maybe the extra walkthrough is maybe
some of the practice stuff is helping them get back
to what you do.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
And you know what I thought was gonna get us
back to that.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
I actually believe that coach Witck coming down from the
booth on the sideline would bring that extra communication in
one on one talks because you know, oftentimes and we
loved it.

Speaker 7 (07:10):
Now. We talked about it early in the week, Smooth
and I.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
We talked about when Greg ged up was on the sideline,
we could come off It's like, get up, we can
handle these guys or runny and we're giving feedback on
a run game. And it was real interaction with the
decordinator making adjustments in real time without going to the
phone and making a call. So I was looking forward
to that, and quite honestly, I don't know what I

(07:33):
haven't felt like we regressed a little bit, so getting
back to the roots and now we have a potential
new decoordinated one into this week.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
And in some ways, like I think it's it's kind
of unfair to say, oh, like because Joe Junior went
down to the field and it didn't work out.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
You got to meet you.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
But he brings energy you see do you see Joe coach?

Speaker 7 (07:49):
Wait at practice.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
I guess what I'm saying though, is just just like
the Detroit Lions are a really good football team. Yeah, right,
And so like him in the booth, him in the field,
was that going to affect this in a positive or
negative way because of the level of opponent. That's more
what I'm getting at. So again, like right now, I
think it's just finding that one thread we can pull,
that one kind of detail we can hone in on
to say this is the reason we get better. And

(08:11):
again I think Joe Wood Junior, again, when you look
at the injuries, like like almost called you smoot like
Sean was saying, it's a little unfair. It's a little
unfair to evaluate him this way because of all the
adversity he's faced this year. But again, like you gotta
there are certain expectations in the NFL, and I think
we're starting to feel that.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
So my question to you is, and I was talking
with Bram about this a couple of days ago, which
is when things are kind of broken the way they are,
and it's kind of this nebulous thing. You can't really
point to one thing or the other. Where do you start?
Is it fundamentals, is it being honest and saying let's
have an honest conversation about where we are not being
critical so much as we're being honest. Where do you

(08:51):
begin when you're just kind of all over the place
and you don't know where to start.

Speaker 5 (08:55):
I think it starts in the locker room. I think
it starts with your leadership. You know, when you got
guys like Act on the offense side of the ball,
who has a lot of experience in the league, and
Bobby Wagner is a guy who has tremendous amount of experience.
It starts with those guys saying, you know what, let
me pull the defense together, let me put the office together.
And then individuals in their expected groups they got to

(09:17):
step up and say, guys, it's not on the coaches,
whether it's Joe Wick calling the plays, dq calling the plays.

Speaker 7 (09:23):
We have to execute.

Speaker 5 (09:25):
We have to say we have to play better and
it starts for individual pride first, you know, and obviously
you're gonna hear well coach Quinn, what do you say
to the team. Obviously he knows that we have a
veteran team. They're not gonna quit on him. It's more
so now the players and you've been in the locker
rooms logan when I'll be like, hey man, we got
to do better. I got to cover that better. That's
on me in the slot to give up that. So

(09:47):
I think it starts with the to a man being
honest with yourself saying am I doing enough? Am I
watching enough tape this week? What could have done better?
How can I help my teammates? How do we change?
And it starts within each individual room and each individual person.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
Yeah, And I think like the honesty, I have no notes.
I think that's exactly right. And it's like not don't
take the easy way out when you're being honest with yourself.
Like sometimes you're watching film and the coach you'll be like,
hey man, that's that's a tough look. I don't if
we got that one, and you got to hold yourself
account and be like I do have that, I can make.

Speaker 5 (10:19):
That I could win around it. I could have went
around that pick.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
Yeah, I could. I could have done that. I could
have done something differently, put myself in a better spot,
and really just being like hyper accountable not only to
yourself but to the team, to the coaches, because again,
like when you turn the film, it's just everyone's kind
of doing their own thing and just hey, honestly, when
you watch the film, if you're whoever you are in
the defense, is that the best version of myself? And
I think if we can get that type of communication

(10:42):
between the coaches and the players and player to player
like Springs is talking about, I get that's to me,
the first step in getting this thing turned around.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
There's another aspect to it when you lose it a
little bit that I think that that's overlook. Okay, you
gotta be honest, but you also can't be depressed. You
gotta have some hope, right, How do you do that?

Speaker 4 (11:03):
Right?

Speaker 5 (11:03):
You gotta have some hope and that hope saying you know,
maybe it's like, man, we're gonna go out and have dinner.
We're gonna watch film, but we're gonna go have dinner,
or you know what the civil lining is like Marcus
has been playing great. No one, no one expected him
to play as many games as he has. But let's
celebrate him. So you take the small wins or the

(11:24):
good times or the bond building moments on the plane
we have when we're joking around on the plane to say,
you know what, we gotta be by Detroit. We don't
have a good time on this plane. We're gonna go
to Madrid, but we're gonna take care of business. So
you gotta be honest. But you can't beat you depressing.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
And also, at some point, as basic as it sounds,
don't you have to remember.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Hey, this is a game. We're supposed to love this.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
I remember Tiger what years ago, and he was struggling exactly.
He reminded himself, you play golfer lift like you're in
your head.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
You're struggling.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
At some point, let's take a breath and say, go
out and play with that passion. Because you're playing a
game for a living, and yes, you're trying to make
a but this is what you'd love to do.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Go out there and play with that passion.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
I think that's true, But I also think there's something
there's something encouraging about being honest with yourself, because if
you just looked at it and said, man, what are
we gonna do? Like, there's nothing to do. But if
I'm honest and I'm critical of myself, you're like, oh,
there is path forward, there is a there's a positive trend.
And again, like it's about having fun and all those
things you're talking about. But again, like the honesty Again,
it seems so simple, but it cleans up a lot

(12:22):
of this stuff we're talking about.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
Right, you think it's hard to be honest at times.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
It's really hard to be honest at times as a
player because like it's so much of your identity is
tied to your success in the field. So someone when
someone says, like you did a poor job there, it's
like they're kind of insulting you as a human being
because that's who you are. Yeah, that's who you are.
So it can be really challenging to kind of step
back and say, no, that's right, that's good feedback. I
can handle that, and I can make this football team

(12:45):
better and I can kind of change the direction that
this thing is going.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
Yeah, I'm gonna be honest to get laos should we
should scratch Smoot's name out?

Speaker 7 (12:52):
And said Jenkson springs.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
But yeah, we had these, We had these good say
you know, Jenks and smooth and I already already took.

Speaker 7 (12:58):
A sharpie, yeah okay.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
To smooth out. And I just wrote your name in.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
I just wrote your name in.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
I just say so DQ calling the place? Was this
something that was necessary because now as the head coach,
you actually have a lot of pressure. Now there's even
more pressure because all the excuses are on him. You
can't even push it off on Joe Junior say this
is all on me?

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Was that the right call?

Speaker 4 (13:24):
I mean, I think so. I think again, I.

Speaker 5 (13:27):
Think what signs does that say? Can we start with that?

Speaker 4 (13:30):
So what I would say is I think this is
this whole thing has been kind of unfair to Joe
wid Junior too because of the injuries, because of I
think there's a lot of player accountability that we haven't
seen the last couple of weeks too, So it's somewhat unfair.
But again, like when you are giving up points at
an historic rate quite frankly the last three weeks, something
has to change, right, And so the only thing that
I could see is that I think Dan has a

(13:51):
lot of confidence in Joe Wood Junior, which is why
he's still on the staff. And so Dan's gonna take
this responsibility. And that's the kind of guy that Dan is.
He's a me first, accountable guy. Right, we just talked
about the importance of accountability. He's gonna help out with that.
And so maybe his experience again because remember Joe Junior
is a first time play caller, right, so maybe his
experience helps settle this in a little bit and get

(14:11):
this guy help us find that idea we talked about
that at the top. Maybe this is the thing that
helps you find that defensive identity, Like maybe we're not
a man coverage blitzing team anymore. Maybe we're more of
a cover.

Speaker 7 (14:20):
Three without personnel. Don't even think we can be that, But.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
That's what I'm saying. Maybe this is the thing that
allows that transition to happen more seamlessly and allows that
communication from coaches to players to really push this thing
over the gold one.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
And that's interesting because if you look at the game
last week, Dan Campbell called the plays officer place take
away to play calling.

Speaker 7 (14:38):
He took away to play calling when he worked out
for them, right, right.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
And also, with all due respect, like it's it was
easy work for you. You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (14:47):
What do you mean?

Speaker 3 (14:49):
I'm just saying this was the week to do it
against the defense's struggling, giving up twenty five points a
game over its last what three or four games, Like,
if you're gonna take over, it's easy to make yourself
look good.

Speaker 7 (14:58):
Yeah, that's right, that's a good point.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
I think.

Speaker 7 (15:02):
We got.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
We just gotta be careful, regardless of it's d Q
coach with whatever. We are banged up, yes, well, and
in a bad way. And add an insult to injury.
Come on to Ron, we're missing pain this week. We'll
have no pain in Spain.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
No pain in Spain.

Speaker 7 (15:22):
No pain in Spain. Take that run with it.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Think of a bumper sticker, no pain in Spain. A
million dollar right there, it's that logan I became millionaires.
But you're right, though, you never want your leader of
the defense acting in that way. You have to carry
yourself as leader, particularly when your unit is struggling.

Speaker 7 (15:42):
It was a lot of frustration.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
You can obviously this obvious frustration from not only the
coaches in place.

Speaker 7 (15:49):
Everyone's out. Yes, we are pissed. The fans were pissed.
We were we're upset, but that's okay.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
So looking forward Dolphins in Madrid, this Doph team, I
will say I thought they had quit. They have not
won a couple like mcdona huge win against the Bills
in South and the Bills have owned Miami over the
past years, even two a set as much after the game.
So this is a team coming in favored of this game,
playing decent football compared to what we thought were gonna.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
I would have I would have bet my life savings
that there was no way that Buffalo Bills would have
I mean, would have lost to the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
They just don't.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
After they went into Kansas City and beat them pretty
good the week before. Ye right, so then they come
back and lose to the Dolphins. That was absolutely but
that goes to show you anygain of Sunday, anyone could win.
And not to take too much credit away from the Dolphins,
but the Bills played a very sloppy game, very sloppy.

(16:48):
They played a very sloppy game. And Kyle Allen was
not great to a Mason Place, but a teen was
a monster.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
You just get He's one of those dudes that you
just get in the open field and let him go.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
He's one of those dudes out of pull your hamstring.
If you turn around and he's running beside and you
feel like you got chase him. At the last minute,
you need to take off running when you see that
guy coming at you. He's just a special player. He's
one he will probably be when he's on the field,
the best player on the field.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
Yeah, And I think that's the thing about Miami that's
so interesting is like that that explosiveness always makes them dangerous,
like wa chain waddle, like their dynamic and lots they
have tight ends on the like that are explosive playmakers.
Like Greg Doltis was a guy that's on the practice squad.
He's a four or five guy that kind of plays
like a receiver, big body. I mean, that's so. But

(17:37):
what I'm saying is that they are explosive. They're really
well schemed offensively. They really challenge your eye discipline. So
any given Sunday, like we're talking about, they can throw
up a game where theyre putting up thirty points, right,
and when you look at the when you watch the
film in Miami, it's not like they're taking all these
deep shots and they're pushing the football in the middle
of the field. It's like we're running drift. We're running
this ten yard strike route off of play action. We're

(17:57):
gonna try and run that five times a game. We're
gonna run a couple of screws. It's a lot of
horizontal passing attack and then that one time where you're
kind of lulled to sleep with h over the top
to waddle right. And I think that's the thing that
makes them dangerous is like, are they able to consistently
beat teams week in and week out. They've shown you no,
but they're so darn explosive, and they're maturing as an

(18:17):
offense each and every week with some of these young playmakers,
especially that offensive line, a lot of young pieces there.
So it is this really interesting group offensively, and then defensively,
it's kind of the same thing. It's a little bit
of this exotic kind of zone pressure, fire, zone replacement,
zone pressures, four man overloads on third down and it
and you could tell in the Bills game that really

(18:39):
flummixed Josh Allen, and so I think, flummex I look
at this and I said to myself, like that the
team is kind of this weird well schemed, almost finesse group.
But if they get you right, if they peg you
right in the game plan, you're in a lot of trouble.
And that's the thing that makes them so dangerous to.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
That point, Like when you think about the Dolphins, a
lot of guys aren't household names. If you're not obviously
everyone was thinking, oh, we had Tyreek Hill coming in it, right.

Speaker 7 (19:09):
Waddell is probably one.

Speaker 5 (19:10):
Of the most explosives, very explosive, fastest player and a
team is probably the press or second fastest running back
in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
Well, Also, if you think about this defense playing man
against these offensive weapons, it's kind of a terrifying thought.

Speaker 4 (19:23):
And I think the thing about the man that makes
me really worried is it's they get in these bunches.

Speaker 5 (19:27):
They use this this motion at that zoom motion where
the guys full speed's coming to cross the line and
he takes off.

Speaker 7 (19:34):
That's how it started. And deep Over is the first man.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
It is tough, and the and the backfield action is crazy.
So again, like one of the things that I took
away after watching the Detroit Lions game is in the
low red zone like kind of twenty five and in Yep.
Detroit ran a ton of this drift concept where it's
heavy play action and then you hit like a little
over fifteen yard like dig to the receiver. You know
who runs that more than anybody in the NFL The

(19:56):
Dolphin Dolphins, and they're gonna run the absolute dog out
of that. So we got to have a solution where
we're are we disciplined with our eyes? Are we seeing
our fits?

Speaker 7 (20:05):
Like?

Speaker 4 (20:05):
That's one thing that's been an issue for the defense
this entire season is like, if I'm a coverage player, first,
I have to be in coverage. I have to be
second secondary run fit player right right, And we need
to be much more disciplined in that regard because this
team is going to challenge your eyes every single time
with backfield action. We got to make sure we're on it.

Speaker 5 (20:21):
And then on the defense side of the ball, they
got a couple of guys in the back end that
can play. You might I was about to say household
and manka Fitzpatrick as a dog right like when he
was at Pittsburgh. Everyone knows obviously at Alabama he was
amazing and sure or sure, what's that thing?

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Is?

Speaker 7 (20:36):
Rashel Douglas Like he can cover man. He's one of
those guys.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
You know, I think, you know last week he might
have had given up a testdown to Coleman on a sideline.

Speaker 7 (20:45):
But he can play.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
He can make the top ten pass defense. Yeah, that's
the one thing they do well.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
They people can run on a ton.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
Yeah, so why are we gonna throw the twenty six
in the league?

Speaker 4 (20:56):
I think?

Speaker 7 (20:56):
Guess right, but they're athletic.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Did you just like blacked out right there? Twenty six
Lee against the run?

Speaker 5 (21:02):
But and he was like, yeah, yeah, because they can't
stop it running as I was saying, but like they
got some athletic guys that, yeah, that can be problems.
And you know, I look, I like the fact that
Marcus is his experience against defenses like this, so Marcus
is not like, well, even though they got they got
Josh Allen, so you know, maybe maybe, but.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
I think I think, I think if you're looking, like
why they got Josh Allen? Like Josh Allen, the game
flow got crazy really early because they had a fumble early,
that interception in the red zone he got down.

Speaker 7 (21:32):
They were down sixteen, and so what do we.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
Gotta do when we're down by sixteen points? We gotta
throw the ball a ton, right, So I think in
a perfect world for the Washington Commanders run you want
to run the football. Right When you look at this
defensive line for the Dolphins, right, Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips,
Zeke Biggers. They're all really talented guys, but they're young
players and you see them get out of gaps. I
think we can run the football a little bit, and

(21:55):
if our defense can keep a cap on what they
do offensively, because the Dolphins will cap themselves wolves right,
they're so there's such a game plan offense, there's so
game plan specific that sometimes they can't get out of
their own way and they don't put up big scoring differentials.
So if we can just keep it across us tackle right,
have to tackle, and we can possess the football offensive,
we've got a shot.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
And at last point, I think in the last few weeks,
I think, to a it's probably the worst quarterback we've
seen in the last.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
Four or five fair assessment.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
So that gives us a chance, That gives us to
say it is a bad player, right, the best assessment
I can give you, guys, Let's.

look out for against the Dolphins, presented by Sports Illustrated

Speaker 7 (23:05):
We could do it?

Speaker 4 (23:07):
How about that for me?

Speaker 2 (23:08):
I mean, I mean whatever you'd like. How about that?
It's Madrid.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
Well, the number one, you're coming over to Spain and
you're playing the Dolphins. Looking on the schedule, this was
like we can beat the Dolphins until last week when
they'd been Buffalo.

Speaker 7 (23:23):
I still believe that we're a better team.

Speaker 5 (23:25):
Although we injured, I think we're a better team in
the Dolphins, and I think if the guys show up,
we should win this game. I still think we're a
better team. I believe that Number two, I'm interested in
seeing coach Quinn is now on the defensive coordinator.

Speaker 7 (23:40):
Is that going to make a difference. I was pretty
excited about Joe.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
Winn coming to the sideline that didn't change because our
personally didn't really change.

Speaker 7 (23:46):
But maybe DQ see something a little different.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
Logan you said his experience and being a play call
him they give us an added boost. So I want
to see what coach q DQ, And then I want
to see how we navigate all these different injuries. Obviously
we lost it in another corner Trey Thomas, but we
got you know, Jonathan Jones gonna be back for the week.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
We don't know, so it's really because we're recording this
on Tuesday, so we don't know, so.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
We don't know who's gonna be in the back end.

Speaker 5 (24:13):
But it's gonna be interesting to see how we navigate
if Mikey still plays in the slide or if he
goes outside, uh BENIGNI if he's playing inside, because remember
he was inside last year and he played great and
Mikey was outside. So it's gonna be interesting to see
how we navigate all the challenges on both sides of
the ball, you know, because our offense has not been explosive.
But I'm intering shit and seeing next man up and

(24:38):
how we do Yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
So this is the things to watch, right, So what
I would say our offensive line versus their defensive line.
I think, like I said, that's a young group up front,
and our group's starting to galvanize a little bit. Sam
cos he's been in the lineup for a couple of
weeks now playing better. Chris Paul Armutunsel is starting to
work that chemistry, and I think we'll be getting these
thirteen and twelve personnel sets. We can run the ball. Well,
you want a big boy these dudes, I mean I
think you can. I think they are one of the

(24:59):
things about Miami Dolphins, and it's been their reputation, but
it shows up on film is they're not overly physical
in the front, offensively or defensively. Right, they're trying to
do that. Then you know they draft Kenneth Grant excuse
me from Michigan. He's you know, sixty six, yes, three
hundred and forty pounds, Like they want to add size.
But like again, with size, there has to become like
a nuance and a technical acumen he hasn't shown yet.

(25:22):
So let's run at them. Let's make sure that they
fit the gaps that way they're supposed to fit, and
let's big body them a little bit. So that's something
I would say is excellent.

Speaker 7 (25:29):
Oh you're afraid today might pressure us?

Speaker 4 (25:30):
Though with that they might.

Speaker 5 (25:31):
I mean, I think that's because we got a unique
situation where we don't have in explosive guy that can
get down film.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
So do we need an explosive guy or do we
just need a well designed plaction pass game. Because I
look at Ben Sinnett, I look at zach Ertz, and
right now I think they're two because the injuries on
the perimeter, they're two of the more explosive pieces of
the offense. So let's get them on the field. Let's
use formation to create our advantage. So that's my second
thing is watch out for the tight ends in this
gotchup right, And again that's a little bit on brand
for me, still something I believe, right, I think they

(25:59):
can win these We've got playmakers there and again without
trailing burks in the lineup. Let's let's see what we
got in terms of playmakers. Then defensively, I'm going to
lean into the Joe, into the Dan quick the experience
of Dan Quinn. Right, can you get guys locked in,
because again, this offense is they really rely on you
being out of position, right, that's what they rely on.
First and foremost they're just everything they're doing is try

(26:21):
to move you off the spot and get you to
fit something you're not supposed to fit. Can you be disciplined,
be where you're supposed to because if you can do that,
they can't drive the length of the field that way right,
They're not going to be able to sustain that production.
So be where you're supposed to be. Defensively, don't fall
for the banana and the tail five antenna. I think
those are my three wings to keep an eye.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
I think we're in agreement. We both lean in and
and see what Dan does coordinated this week.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
The only thing I would add is I think it's
important for this team to get off to a quick start.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
I guess when we start, we start with a slow
one fast one Yeah, real fast, real fast.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
And it also plays into let's run the ball. When
you're playing from behind, you obviously have a hard time
establishing the run.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
Let's get let's let's be are on third down two.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
You know, I think that if you win first down,
if you have a strong first down three four yards
and that makes third or second and short or second
and seventh or less leads to a third and short
so we can win. We gotta win first down absolutely
before we let Logan go.

one blockbuster guest after the other. We have the voice
of the Washington Commanders. Brad watch brand.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
Are you seasons?

Speaker 2 (27:58):
We all traveled together. We made it.

Speaker 7 (28:00):
We made it this one.

Speaker 5 (28:01):
Here's part of my experience this morning. Here's part of experiences.

Speaker 8 (28:05):
Have you told the story yet or no?

Speaker 9 (28:07):
Is that just the.

Speaker 7 (28:10):
I'd bean about how we almost Ryan almost Ransom went over?

Speaker 8 (28:13):
R was Ransom went over when we sat on the
plane for forty five minutes before they even let us
off the plane. Yeah, we should get to the rental
car place when our crup place doesn't get open. We
don't know how to get to floor zero whatever floor
zero is got negative floors here? Yeah, minus one minus two,
that's a thing.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
Ad blue.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
You can ghet minus one on the elevator.

Speaker 4 (28:35):
A blue.

Speaker 7 (28:35):
The two different fuel system was interesting something.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
And then we're sitting there and then all of a
sudden shown out of noise like jinks, and I hear
the crumpling of this plastic bag and it's just a
bunch of gummy worms.

Speaker 5 (28:46):
Make us frin. We we had coffee and gummy bears
this morning. That's why I'm probably so energy because of
the can.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Then you put it away and I hear the crumple. Later, Hey, man,
have some more. I was like, all right, let's go.

Speaker 5 (29:03):
Jax was like trying to be polite this morning. I
opened up a bag. I got this big bag of candy,
and he goes take one little.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
First of all, I don't want to be greedy.

Speaker 7 (29:11):
I didn't want to agreed.

Speaker 5 (29:12):
I didn't want him to dig too deep in my
bag because he didn't look like I just want to like.

Speaker 7 (29:17):
I didn't want his hand always, so I was gonna
pour some out for him. But he was polite. He did,
he did a good job. And I give him some more.

Speaker 8 (29:22):
But he was one of those kids decided there is
a way you're allowed to touch the gummy words.

Speaker 7 (29:27):
If I didn't know what.

Speaker 5 (29:29):
Hand has been on a plane, he could have been
deep in my bag. I didn't want his hands all
I didn't eat and I candy for I could test
everything for the week to what.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
I liked the most, I would I would have gave
him the bag, rifling through him and like, I think
I'll take this.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Yeah, yeah, So here we are. First thoughts. I mean,
I know this is not exactly where we want the
team to be, but the fact that we're here is
actually very exciting.

Speaker 8 (29:50):
Yeah, I actually this, this is at the right time.
I think let's just get the air out of the room.
You know, we're we're in Spain. I think everybody, and
I be, everybody needs to have a nice time this week.

Speaker 7 (30:03):
Everybody needs to go on vacation.

Speaker 8 (30:04):
Everybody needs to go on vacation. And I think it
meets the team too. I mean, I know there's a
lot of heavy news that came out Yesterday's some changes
that were made. The record's not where anybody wants it
to be, you know what, Like you were in Madrid
in an Irish bar, drink like an irishman in Spain
have like let's live a little bit this week, you know,
Like I think the team needs to go have some

(30:25):
iberiic o ham, you know, go see the Prato, walk around,
experience Spain and get football off the brain a little
bit because they know what they're doing. It's just a
matter of I think everyone needs to take a breath,
and this is the right place to be to take
a breath. It's a unique experience.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
That's an interesting point, like because when you're back at
home and your player, especially at home on DC and.

Speaker 7 (30:45):
Our market, there's a lot of noise, your noise.

Speaker 5 (30:48):
You're just going to hear that noise this week, you're right,
So you get to walk around and enjoy the coffee
to wine, you know, the restaurants, and just kind of
just focus on the task at hand, which is to
come over here to win again.

Speaker 7 (31:00):
Obviously, but you gotta be focused.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
You gotta be honest, like we talked about the previous segment,
but it is a chance to kind of let your
hand out a little bit and.

Speaker 7 (31:08):
Focus on it.

Speaker 8 (31:09):
I think what's done is done right. And like, listen,
the Dolphins, I heard you talking about it. Earlier, like
their season's gotten blown up too, for a lot of
different reasons. They've got their own issues of what's been
going on there. They traded off a star player, their
GM was fired, their coach is still here, there's a
lot of questions about the future of their quarterback, where
they'll be at the organization, be on this yair And
you know what they did last week? They went and

(31:30):
beat the Buffalo Bills, and their coach drove around to
some bar in Miami and trolled the Bills. Fits is crazy,
So like, you know what, Like why can't Washington circle
the wagons a little? Why you let some of the
steam out have a good time in Spain, turn around
and play a competitive game Sunday.

Speaker 7 (31:44):
Again, that's a.

Speaker 5 (31:45):
Very interesting point with two teams the same record but
totally different reasons.

Speaker 7 (31:49):
Why we here.

Speaker 5 (31:51):
Obviously the Dolphins have a lot of term We have
a franchise quarterback. We would all agree that Jayden is
our guy, and if it wasn't for injuries, we wouldn't
be in this spot. But this feels just feels bad.
All you know that we had the same record as
a Dolphins. This didn't seem right. You made a really
interesting point.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
I think it goes hand in hand maybe with d
Q calling defensive places this week, which is not only
do you have a change of scenery, you have a
different voice. Not to take anything away from Joe Witt,
because I don't know how much the defense will be different,
but how much can that help potentially win? All Right,
we're in a rut. Now we have a new voice,
and at least for this week, we're completely in a
different place. It's almost this is a good time for

(32:29):
a reset potentially.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Or no, I think so.

Speaker 7 (32:33):
I think so.

Speaker 5 (32:34):
We talked about coach Quinn calling the game. I mean
Dan Campbell calling the games last week for Detroit, and
obviously they have much talented team and the offense was
very good against a very bad defense. But I do
think there's a voice, you know, when you hear coach
walks in the room up. I know there was twice
when I was in Washington when Coach Giffs walked in
the room.

Speaker 7 (32:54):
And when Coach Giffs came in the room, it was
like that the coach it's different.

Speaker 5 (33:01):
So when coach went and his experience right, So you
got to think about it, right coach with I love
him to death, he's he's a great coach and he
has a good finger on on on a pulse. But
coach Quinn's experience. You know, he's been he took a
Super Bowl team see and he didn't play a lot
of men. They play zone. So it's gonna be interesting

(33:22):
if he goes from hey, we've been playing showing a
lot of men, do we play more zone?

Speaker 4 (33:26):
This week?

Speaker 5 (33:28):
He's facing the uphill battle even though he has experience,
because obviously losing trade this week was devastating. So it's
a lot of moving parts in the back end that
he's gonna have to navigate. But who better would you
want to navigate that than the experienced coordinator saying I
got these guys. You know, if Jones plays, I can
put him out here. I can possibly move Ignogy back

(33:51):
into the slide, or I can you know, Mikey, I
can move here around. So there's there's this experience that's
needed and I think could be welcomed by those guys
also to like, I think this is a good week.

Speaker 8 (34:01):
Dan Quinn since he's been here, has really valued going away,
whether it was going away to New York last year
for a week or going to Miami for a week
in the preseason or going to Arizona for a week
after the Bengals game.

Speaker 7 (34:13):
And they had a.

Speaker 8 (34:14):
Short version of that in the preseason with New England,
but they haven't had a trip like this. And you know,
dan Quinn is taking on another responsibility. I think it's
a natural thing to do. If things don't work, things
do have to change. It's just a natural progression in
this sport. I don't really actually think it's that much
of an indictment of Joe Witt. It is more about
things just aren't going right. And you could probably talk

(34:35):
more about what's going on in general about it. Injuries
are part of it. Maybe there's some scheme issues that
need to be addressed. There's a number of different things
that are going on that led to all of this,
but something had to change. Dan Quinn is showing leadership.
He stood up and said, fine, put it on my shoulders.
It ultimately is my responsibility. So his week might be
a little bit different than everyone else's, but I know,
deep down for him, he knows that this week can

(34:57):
be invaluable to keep the team together, go out, have
some fun, grow together, become the brotherhood, make some memories
with one another. You'll show up on Sunday and you
know what, Like, I don't think Bobby Wagner or Zach
Ertz or Jonathan Jones or Laremie Tunzel or any of
these guys are gonna forget how to play extremely high
competitive football. And I do expect at some point, and

(35:18):
I've been waiting for this for a couple of weeks.
This is gonna flip around. This is not gonna continue
this way. They're a little they're too beat up. I'd
say we wouldn't have a team if it CONTs. That's right,
but in general, there's still too much experience on this
team to have the results that they've been having, as
lopsided as they've been. So I actually think this week
has come at the right time for everybody to take

(35:39):
a breath, go out, have fun, make some memories, go
play a football game. Be looser than you've been. Stop
sweating all the small stuff. I know these I know
what's going on here, and you saw it at the
end of the second quarter of the Lions game. The
frustration came out because they're trying hard. They're trying really hard.
It's not happening, and all of a sudden, there's a
lot of pride that is spilling out and a team

(36:00):
who probably had a lot of motivation because you ended
their season a year ago, and you could tell her
a lot of people talking back and forth. They're taking
advantage of a team that is too injured and currently
not playing particularly well on one side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
And you know what you saw.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
What the after effect of that was that Jinks You
said it was like a college team getting beat.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Yeah, it's I was.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
You know, it's rare in the NFL when you see
one NFL team toying with another. That's just something you
don't even when you're beating up on another team. You
rarely see another NFL team calling its own shot, which
sort of speaks to the fact that this defense is broken.
But I wanted to piggyback off of some of the
things you were saying when you talk about dan Quinn,
that voice and how much pridey takes in the defense.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
You also mentioned a guy like Bobby Wagner, for example.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
You know some of these leaders in the locker room,
how much is it incumbent upon those guys, even a
von Miller, guys who've been around for a long time
to step up and make their voices heard again.

Speaker 5 (36:53):
I said, a first starts with honesty. Then it starts
with to a man, Am I doing my part in this?

Speaker 1 (37:00):
Me?

Speaker 5 (37:00):
Bobby Wagner, me zach Urge, me, Larry Tunzel, me, Marcus Mariota.
Am I doing my part to make this team the
best version?

Speaker 7 (37:09):
Stuff? And I And it's not all on the coaching, right.
So whether it's.

Speaker 5 (37:12):
Dq coaching calling place, Cliff calling place, whoever's calling place,
we still have to execute and do our jobs to
do the best of our abilities. Then not leadership spills
over to the group, right, because there's always in each group,
each room, there's always a big dog right in the room.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
That was me and our room.

Speaker 5 (37:30):
Just so y'all know, Smooth might be listening to that
was me and our room. But I would make sure
that the guys, it's like, hey, guys, we have as
a group, we gotta work together. I'm gonna take accountability
for my actions and my performance.

Speaker 7 (37:44):
I want us to talk. How can I help you?

Speaker 5 (37:47):
And then it starts to get contagious because now when
the leader in that room is making saying, hey, you
know it was my fault, and then everybody else sees
that that leader's taking accountability. Then to a man, that
happens and they guess contagious, and I hope that's what's
happening with.

Speaker 7 (38:03):
A veteran l team.

Speaker 8 (38:04):
I mean, listen, like, So, they made some personnel changes,
they tried a couple of different players, they said they
were going to scale back the defense. All these things
were natural that were going on. Joe Whitt, he was
asked by the players, so it's not that they.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Were blaming him.

Speaker 8 (38:16):
They're saying, we want to have better communication with you
on the field. They asked for this to happen. I
haven't seen any fracturing. What I have seen is play
that's unacceptable and they all understand that. And that's why
I think at some point there is going to be
a turning point, and I'm hoping it happens this week
so that we get competitive football, specifically from that side

(38:37):
of the ball, because I heard Logan talking about this earlier. Offensively,
they've been dealt a really difficult hand too, over and
over and over. Yeah, but they're figuring it out and
they're doing enough to remain competitive in the games. Missing
their starting quarterback, missing every outside weapon that any team
is scared of right, their leading receiver two of the
last few weeks has been here for a few weeks, right,

(38:58):
So they're figuring it out and still hosting twenty something
points a game.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
They're figuring it.

Speaker 8 (39:02):
Out the remain competitive. The other side of the ball's
got to do that too, But I do believe they
have the people and the character in the room to
do that. I don't know what's wrong, Like I think
they don't know what's really wrong here. Like that's where
I think it's really tough about this. I've never seen
anything like this. I've seen finger pointing, I've seen We've
have a lot of injuries, that's part of it. I've
never seen anything like this where I think everybody's going

(39:24):
we're in the twilight zone.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Coaches or DQ.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
After the lost against the lines, even he sort of,
you know, throw that out there, like we've got to
figure it out and maybe it's gonna take the bye week.
But I think even he himself sort of admitted or
at least implied, I'm trying to figure it out too,
And so that's a really hard challenge being honest, Like you,
particularly a player, or what's going on with this game?
You have to sort of reset, and that's a real challenge.

Speaker 7 (39:51):
It is unusual situation.

Speaker 5 (39:54):
And if you think about last year, we would think
everything that could go wrong with right right right, and
you were like, god, you know, it took us in
the NFC Championship game, So could this be the opposite?

Speaker 7 (40:08):
Right, Like, now, everything that could go wrong, it's going wrong.

Speaker 5 (40:13):
And the good thing about this whole situation is that
brotherhood is still there. The team is now fractured.

Speaker 7 (40:22):
There's not a lot. There's some noise out there.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
We're not gonna call out the pundits out in Washington
that's calling for Jasen Daniels injuries and all that stuff.
There's some noise out there, but for the most part,
we're all. No one is like to your point, No
one's point, fingers, it's everything.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
That's a good point because a lot of time that
happens during a losing streak, when culture starts to rot.
You see guys blaming each other, going on x going
on Instagram saying you know, and we haven't seen any like.

Speaker 8 (40:49):
You know, I've been it didn't have this locker room
for a quarter century. I covered your teams, yep, covered
these current teams and I've seen it all right, and
I've seen there are the bad apples that have too
much influence, and all of a sudden, it kind of
rots the whole core, and you know that this is
the cause of what's going on. That's not what's happening here.
I've seen times where the players just go the coaches

(41:10):
are not doing this right, and that rots it. That's
not happening here. I've seen times when the coaches go
too over the top and say it's this guy, or
it's this guy, or it's this guy, and you could
feel that's when the Instagram people start getting unfollowed, girlfriends
start liking posts like they start to the things that
are being said.

Speaker 4 (41:28):
I know.

Speaker 7 (41:31):
I've a lot of that.

Speaker 2 (41:32):
Either.

Speaker 7 (41:33):
This is one of the most unusual things I have
ever seen.

Speaker 8 (41:38):
Knows what in the world is going I don't think
anybody knows what's going on, and that's why I keep
feeling like something's going to click. There's too much leadership,
there's too much pride going on here, and I hope
it starts this weekend.

Speaker 5 (41:49):
What better way to get healthy on on to it.
Not that he's bad, No, like I said earlier, Well,
you know this I'm gonna tell you this right now.
He's a starting NFL quarterback, so I don't want to say.

Speaker 8 (41:59):
He's bad as ago. He was one of the leading
pastors in the NFL. And I will tell you this too,
because they play on time. I heard Logan talking about this.
They're a game playing offense. There are a scheme on
time offense. Yeah, but he's still correct, all right, Well,
he does when he's under pressure, and that's what this
team needs to change immediately this weekend. If he is
as clean as Sam Darneld to Jared Goffer, he's gonna
light them up too. Well he is, get some pressure

(42:21):
on him, otherwise you're going to be just as much
in trouble with him as you have been the last one.

Speaker 2 (42:26):
Isn't that the real issue here?

Speaker 3 (42:27):
If you're talking about the commander's playing man against the
speed on this offense, and if Tua has a clean
pocket with these playmakers, that is a recipe for disaster.

Speaker 2 (42:35):
So to your point, you've got to collapse the pocket.
You have to make him money.

Speaker 8 (42:38):
I know they're missing a lot of people, especially at
defensive end. DQ's got to scheme something up to get
some pressure on that quarterback. And move him off the
spot because he's as accurate as it comes when he's
standing back there. They did not get a sack the
last two weeks, not get one single sack. There were
very few pressures on Jared Goffer, Sam Darnold. They looked
like MVPs after that. Two is going to look like

(42:58):
that too if you do not move him. So it
is incumbent on them to figure something out, to change
something up, to change a look and get him moving around,
because then you get the mistakes out.

Speaker 7 (43:10):
I hope so.

Speaker 5 (43:11):
I just his arm is not loud like those other
guys we played, But I hope you're right.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
When you look at the Dolphins, is there anything that
stands at you as far as how they've been able
to I don't want to say turn things around. It's
just still a three and seven football team. But they
looked left for dead. Mike McDaniel looked like he might
get fired. Now he's gonna stay for the rest of
the season. We know that, and here they are with
a little momentum. Is there anything you can look at
and say, well, based on that template, maybe, I mean.

Speaker 8 (43:37):
That's something we have a feeling, And I don't know
because I'm not covering them around him every day, but
I have a feeling like the worst of the worst happened.
They fired the love that. Yeah, you know, they traded
jail at Phillips. You know the coach is staying that's
just it. But they know changes coming, you know what,
just start playing loose and I think they did also
a division game. They know that team that they played.

(43:59):
They're not better than that team, but they know that team.
There's no expectations. They're playing loose and the reality is,
and this is what scares me about him, is they
got speed on offense, yes a chance, got speed on offense,
and you know what, you break a couple of plays
and all of a sudden, the score doesn't look right
and then all the pressures on the Bills are going,
what's going on here today?

Speaker 5 (44:16):
And they jumped up on him sixteen nothing. But that
is a very good point now that you think about it.
They actually have nothing to nothing. Really, They're scary, right,
and maybe maybe that's part of been our challenge. We
put so much pressure on ourselves like we gotta win til.

Speaker 2 (44:32):
Especially when you think about last year, last.

Speaker 5 (44:34):
Year, last year, last year, and we got when we
got to Marcus just got to hold it down for
two games for Day to come back. And we put
so much pressure on ourselves and we play some great opponents,
But with Detroit really that much better than.

Speaker 7 (44:48):
Us, I think, listen, I think some settle really that
much better.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (44:52):
Well, when I think some of this the last few
weeks is there's a disbelief that this is happening. The
pressure is ramping up. The expectations were you know, I
thought deserved. Honestly, I know a lot of people were like, well,
wait a minute, it was just one season. No, they
were twelve and five. They had the best rookie quarterback
season I've ever seen. The NFL agreed with this and

(45:13):
put them in so many standalone games and night games
for a reason, because they had an expectation on them.
And I'll thought, like, listen, they might not be twelve
and five again, but you would never have convinced me
of this one as an outcome.

Speaker 7 (45:24):
With a record.

Speaker 5 (45:25):
Knew when Dame he's an automatic tim wing correct.

Speaker 7 (45:29):
That's what we thought.

Speaker 8 (45:29):
We all thought, and I think they thought it too,
and for good reason. And when it started, you're seeing
the pressure ramp up, ramp up up, and then they
played Detroit, Kansas City, Seattle. Dallas has got a great offense.
With the other three, there are all super Bowl caliber teams.
The pressure's ramping up. They're playing really, really, really high
end opponents and it's disintegrating on them, and this is

(45:52):
where we land in the what is going on?

Speaker 4 (45:54):
You know?

Speaker 5 (45:55):
And that Kansas City game was one of those games.
I was just like, Okay, we got Terry, which was
a huge boost for us for the two amazing catches
that he had or how many catches he had in
the game. But our defense looked excellent for the first
half of that game.

Speaker 10 (46:10):
They just didn't convert offensively to man they should have had,
and they may have lost, but it would have been
a very very different game in the second half if
that game wasn't tie.

Speaker 5 (46:23):
Arrington was just a monster that game, right because he
came out like, uh had two sacks of first half.
Jacob Martin, Jacob Martin, Arrington, Jacob Martin had two sacks
of first half, right, So Jacob Martin. So I was
just like, Okay, now we got some guys who can
step up and make plays. Kwalm was hit and we
were just good. It's just I was expecting to see
that same I talk about it when Joe Witt came

(46:44):
to the sideline, I was like, we're going to see
that Kansas city and energy. We're going to see that
same run to the ball, not giving up explosive plays,
making tackles and just getting after it. And we just,
I mean, to your point, Jinks Detroit Man, and I
was like, I was looking at Dan Campbell Cally's plays
and I'm just like, this is un messing with this,

(47:08):
Like this is this is clown show.

Speaker 7 (47:10):
He's like, clown like it. He was laughing, right, it
wasn't good man.

Speaker 8 (47:14):
They averaged ten yards of play ten yards of.

Speaker 5 (47:17):
Play, and we knew they were explosive. But Minnesota the
week before it kind of they set.

Speaker 8 (47:22):
The ord every time they touched the ball, with the
exception of the end of game when they were just
running the clock out, and the vast majority of those
drives were sixty four yards. Are longer saying field or
anything like that. The Seattle game, Sam Dartle had a
perfect passer rating in the first half against and then
the game was over at that point. This is why
everybody needs it, and it's this isn't about a lack

(47:42):
of pride. This isn't about a lack of desire, This
isn't about a lack of buying. Something's wrong and that's
why I think everyone just needs to take a break,
go get some tapis, have some fun. Right, take a break,
get the brothers back together, make some memories, and you
know what, you'll remember to play football on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (48:01):
Perfect place for reset, gorgeous sitting, whole new setting.

Speaker 3 (48:05):
Let's get it done on Sunday. It's Brad Weinstein, Bran,
thank you, manout the week. Come on, yeah, we brought
the whole crew. Oh man, voice is wand here the
Spanish language commanders broadcast.

Speaker 11 (48:29):
That.

Speaker 2 (48:29):
Awesome, incredible.

Speaker 6 (48:32):
We're happy to be here. We're excited. Uh we've been
waiting for this game.

Speaker 9 (48:35):
Unfortunately, like you guys have been mentioning, it hasn't been
the year we expected.

Speaker 6 (48:40):
When the season started and when we talked about the.

Speaker 9 (48:43):
International game and we had the opportunity to to to
go across the pond calling game in one of the
most historic venues in the world, we said, I'm in.

Speaker 3 (48:54):
I can see how like you watching your eyes and
seeing you guys, I can tell how excited you are definitely.

Speaker 11 (49:00):
I mean you no offense to says he's a Barcelona fan.
I'm actually around Madrid fan, so it's like, you know,
it's like double this is not my team, this is
not my team. I root for Barcelona.

Speaker 9 (49:14):
These two teams hate each other by the way, right,
But I do respect where we're at, and when we're
talking about venues, when we're talking about stadiums, Santiago is
perhaps top three in the world. We're talking about Real Madrid,
a team that I don't like fifteen Champions leagues. Respect

(49:35):
the moment you walk into that building, you kind of
like you bereat that air and.

Speaker 6 (49:38):
You're like, wow, this is a specially does it hurt
for you to say that?

Speaker 9 (49:41):
To be honest, because I removed my fan cap and
I think about where we're at as a team, right,
the whole Commander squad that's come to Spain to realize
that we're gonna be the first to call a game
of NFL football game in that venue.

Speaker 2 (49:55):
It's going to be history.

Speaker 5 (49:56):
You think there are any Madrid players that play soccer
that could play like receiver that come out.

Speaker 2 (50:01):
And run routes.

Speaker 7 (50:04):
Force man.

Speaker 11 (50:06):
Has to be a big forward, big striker, plays. Yeah,
he was a four to that guy like super fast
and he's pretty bats oh yeah, really fast.

Speaker 2 (50:20):
I think he would be able to play. And the
only one that can't play is Beneathios. You know, he's
a little he like the crosswalk we were stopped at
the stop.

Speaker 3 (50:27):
Yeah, he was amazing, laying down in the street like
working the soccer ball with his feet in front.

Speaker 5 (50:31):
There was a kid that had unbelievable feet, like he
was on his back. He flipped, he did a flip
like this is chill amazing.

Speaker 9 (50:38):
You know, that's something that they live here. This is
something they're born with. Soccer is their first love, of
course blood of course. But now we're opening the door
to a new sport, right the NFL. And and let's
get something straight, because I don't want to offend any
Spanish fans that might be watching this show and podcast.
They've had NFL before, not an NFL the one we know,

(50:59):
oh the Europe Europe in Barcelona. So you have a
lot of fans that have been following the game for
a very long time, and to have a game like
this one in Europe, in Spain for the first time,
I think it opens up a market that for them
has been closed for many years.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
I think this is what the NFL is trying to do.

Speaker 9 (51:16):
We're trying to globalize, so we're trying to expand and
become what basketball is to the world.

Speaker 2 (51:21):
What soccer is to the world.

Speaker 3 (51:22):
So such an interesting point and as someone who follows soccer,
like if you were football, like, that'll always be the
first love here.

Speaker 6 (51:27):
But how much have you seen NFL football grow over time?

Speaker 1 (51:30):
Here?

Speaker 2 (51:31):
At least the fandom at.

Speaker 11 (51:32):
Least what I see on social media, like people from
all countries, Latin America and Spain just commenting on regular
things they do in their own podcast. Now they're having
their own weekly segments. They're always viewing parties for the
Commanders and the playoffs. Last season we saw huge numbers
in Mexico of people just watching the Commanders. They love
the Commanders in different parts of the world. I think

(51:52):
it's something that it's going to keep growing. The NFL
is doing a great job when it comes to that.
All we have to do is look at what happened
this season.

Speaker 9 (51:59):
When we talk about the Super Bowl that's coming up,
and we talk about the performing artists such as bat Bunny,
another guy I don't like personally right.

Speaker 4 (52:06):
And I'm not.

Speaker 9 (52:09):
Taking man, But here's the thing. I respect the artist
he is and how big he is, the the reason
why they're bringing them. They would be international, global artists.
He's gonna bring a lot more eyeballs to the NFL
and that's that's at the end of the day, that's

(52:30):
the goal.

Speaker 2 (52:31):
So something that.

Speaker 3 (52:32):
Nobody likes is how the Commanders defense is played right now, Man,
what sort of feedback have you gotten from fans? We
know that Q is gonna be calling the plays this
week hopefully that is a huge change for this team
and sort of lights of fire into the defense.

Speaker 11 (52:43):
But what have you guys heard now from the fans
as far as the team Lions. You just face the Lions,
you just face the Seahawks, you face the Chiefs pretty
much super Bowl contenders, I would say, so the fans
kind of come to terms that it's it's just it's
been a rough patch for the defens in the team
in general. But the excitement is for this game in Madrid.

(53:04):
Like like Moises has said, this game has been circle
for people since it came out in the springtime. And
we know definitely a lot of fans that are coming
over Spanish speaking and English speaking fans that are just
coming over for the game, excited about the game.

Speaker 2 (53:16):
To schedule.

Speaker 6 (53:17):
It sucks, we got the short end of the stick.

Speaker 2 (53:19):
That's that's a reality.

Speaker 6 (53:20):
But I think fans are.

Speaker 9 (53:22):
Asking for the team to just play a little bit harder,
to leave it all out on the field. And you played,
you know what it's like, that's what the coach tails.
You're at the end of the day, win or loose,
leave it all on the field and at least walk
away with that, you know, pride.

Speaker 2 (53:36):
You did everything you could.

Speaker 9 (53:38):
Perhaps the fan base feels that that's not what's happening
for whatever reason.

Speaker 5 (53:41):
Really you think you think that's the sentiment like most
people think.

Speaker 9 (53:44):
We've heard when we walk around the stadium, when we
speak to fans on social media.

Speaker 2 (53:48):
I'm not making it up.

Speaker 9 (53:49):
You can go and see it yourself. But now that
we have d Q stepping stepping in, we see what
he's done with other teams. We saw we saw what
he did with that list. Yeah, we saw what he
did in Seattle. We know what type of coach is
and when he came he talked about what he was
trying to implement. Well, now you have an opportunity. Now
you're going to be the guy. I'm not sure if

(54:09):
it's a long term solution.

Speaker 5 (54:11):
But is that to be the guy when they're they're
decimated on the different sides.

Speaker 9 (54:16):
Of coach we had had to the national message has
been you're going to have to learn how to win
with injuries.

Speaker 5 (54:24):
We haven't seen it, well not, I don't know. I've
been around the NFL a long time, with my father
and everything. I don't know if I've personally seen a
team so decimated at key positions, right at key positions,
starting with Terry.

Speaker 9 (54:38):
I don't disagree with that, right, but it goes back
to the point it's not about expectation of winning, it's
just playing better.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
And I think with the Q we might see that.

Speaker 4 (54:48):
Right.

Speaker 9 (54:48):
It didn't work out with Joe Witt for whatever reason.
Like you said, injuries played a big role. But now
a guy who's more experienced is going to step.

Speaker 3 (54:56):
Into I think this is the perfect both things can
be true, right, yes, where look, had injuries been a
huge part of what's going on with this team, no
question about it. And at the same time, even if
you're decimated by injuries, you need to see more from
the defensive particular.

Speaker 5 (55:09):
But what can I say something about it as a
defensive guy on the sage, the guy who actually played. Actually,
it's one thing to say, well, the defensive kids played better,
but the best defense is an offense that keeps us
off the fields. It hasn't been consistent. Our offense hadn't
been consistent enough. Well, we had games where we ran

(55:31):
the ball well, but there's been times where it was
three and out, three and out. These guys need We
don't have enough depth because the guys who normally would
have been the backups are playing special teams and starting
Jeremy Reeves right.

Speaker 2 (55:45):
So we so at times like it's hand and handed.

Speaker 5 (55:49):
I just don't want us to make sure we don't
single out the defense as it's all their fault while
we're not playing well.

Speaker 11 (55:54):
I think also last year we saw a lot of
things aligned for the team, Like the amount of injuries
for the team last year compared to this year is
night and day. You know, things aligned, the percentage on
fourth downs last year everything worked for the team. Everything clicked,
the last minute victories, everything was clicking for the team
last year. So we kind of just saw that maybe
that was going to flow into this year. We know

(56:14):
eventually an NFL stuff balances out, stuff balances itself out.

Speaker 3 (56:18):
What was the stat, Jason, I think you gave us
this where last year the Commander's fourth down conversion percentage
was higher than Michael Jordan's free throw percentage.

Speaker 2 (56:28):
That's an incredible that's an incredible stat he should getting.
That's an incredible status.

Speaker 3 (56:32):
That guy.

Speaker 5 (56:37):
Best hair in the building. You know what, you know
what I've seen.

Speaker 9 (56:40):
Uh, this is something that I wanted to point out
the fact that I feel, this is my personal opinion,
we're lacking big game changing place in the tackles. Right,
we talk about a lot of miss tackles. I think
this year we haven't seen enough. At the beginning of
the season, we saw players step up and Nick Bloor
was a guy who was hitting hard.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
Joan Reeves was there as well, and he's been he's
been in and out. Yeah, we need consistency when it
comes to that.

Speaker 9 (57:08):
But we need those plays that change the tempo of
the game, and I don't think we've had enough.

Speaker 5 (57:13):
Yeah, and that's usually done by superstars. Usually you need
a guy who can say I will make a play.
I was expecting at the start of this season, Like
once we had a we were gonna be deeping making
a run into the playoff, a guy like vond Miller
would come in and make a splash play like that,
exactly what you're talking about. On the offense side of
the ball, Terry, it was, it was our splash. DeVos

(57:35):
showed some early in the year.

Speaker 2 (57:36):
But he's been dealing with that heel injury as well.

Speaker 5 (57:39):
So big plays come from big time players. So a
lot of our starters are out. Not that the backups
and guys who were second or third on depth try
can't make those plays, but it's a reason why you were.

Speaker 2 (57:52):
Starting so early in the season, right.

Speaker 11 (57:55):
Two positions that they addressed was the end and deeterrich
Wise went out the second game, and then the next
game they had addressed safety. Will Harris goes out as well,
things that they thought they had addressed during the office.

Speaker 2 (58:07):
Was playing very well. Yeah, Harris was playing pretty good.

Speaker 5 (58:09):
Yeah, that's a production right there. Because you think about
in the NBA, imagining like your second leading scorer he leaves,
it leaves again, right, that's like twenty points that's gone away, right,
So it's the same thing in football when you don't
have those superstars, a guy like, all right, I can
lock this guy down, lean the safety over there, and
we're gonna make a play.

Speaker 7 (58:29):
It's harder for everybody to make play.

Speaker 3 (58:31):
And one thing we haven't talked about a lot is
the Commander's offense has actually been pretty efficient.

Speaker 2 (58:36):
Marcus Moriana has done a nice job.

Speaker 3 (58:38):
So if the defense can get some stops, then the
Commander's offense to get on the field and work.

Speaker 2 (58:42):
And also, this Dolphins defense is very good against the pass.

Speaker 3 (58:45):
They have a top ten pass defense, but one of
the worst rushing defenses in the NFL. That's something the
Commanders have had a hard time doing is rushing the
football because they're always playing from behind. So if the
defense can get some stops, then maybe that offense can
operate in a way to keep this game close win it.

Speaker 9 (59:01):
I think things just simply haven't been clicking when we
look at what's happening.

Speaker 2 (59:04):
Because Marcus, like you mentioned, has been playing well.

Speaker 9 (59:07):
Yes, he's actually he's produced better numbers than Jaden did
when he was on the field.

Speaker 6 (59:13):
What I want to make very clear, because I know
that when we.

Speaker 9 (59:16):
Get to this point and you have a streak of losses,
people jump ship really really fast.

Speaker 2 (59:24):
We haven't seen that. We haven't seen that on social media,
on social media.

Speaker 9 (59:32):
In some of our colleagues. And to be honest, I
still believe in this team. I still believe in this
coaching staff. I think we can write the ship. We
had a great year last year, fantastic, historic year. This
hasn't been quite the year were expected. But I still
believe we have the infrastructure we do to move forward well.

Speaker 3 (59:54):
And I also think that when it comes to fans,
fans always look at the smallest sample size possible, right,
never take a look back and say, all right, let's
let's look at it from a broader perspective. What I
mean by that is two weeks ago, look at the Bills. Oh,
they beat the Chiefs. They're back. That defense is incredible.
This is a team that's favorite to win the Super Bowl.
A week later the Dolphins, right with all the Bills.

(01:00:15):
It's never as simple as three or four games or
week to week. You have to look at the bigger picture.

Speaker 11 (01:00:21):
Now, for me, I go back to the offense, like
you had mentioned, that haven't been consistent this week. You
saw Chris Rorigaz start the game, and in that week
of interviews Kingsbury had mentioned that Rigez does a good
job of taking what's there, which means that he sees
a hole and he runs through it, which means when

(01:00:41):
we were trying to get Bill to be our top
running back, he was kind of hesitant because he wasn't
really hitting the whole heart have he used to when
he started the season. So I look forward to another
rotation of the running backs again how we started the season.

Speaker 5 (01:00:55):
And I think against the Dolphins, this is the best
game gainst the twenty six worst rush, worst rush defense
to get back on track. If we can't get back
on track against these guys, I don't know who we
can get back on track against.

Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
What do you think is gonna happen on Sunday?

Speaker 4 (01:01:11):
We're gonna win.

Speaker 7 (01:01:15):
I tell you you gotta get we gotta get in,
get out.

Speaker 9 (01:01:22):
Then, yes, the Dolphins are coming in two out of
three against a very good Bills team.

Speaker 6 (01:01:29):
We're not on that streak right, We're We're quite the opposite.

Speaker 9 (01:01:32):
But I feel that, like you guys talked about earlier,
when we look back at this season, going away from
home has helped, getting getting away from the noise, has
helped creating this environment when the team can kind of
bond has been a big part of the success of
the of these Washington Commanders.

Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
For me, I think being away from the d n B.
Like like you had mentioned.

Speaker 11 (01:01:56):
Throughout week, dan Quinn has mentioned that he loves West
Coast trips because he takes out his team early to focus,
to be together, to bond. I think I think they'll
regroup and yeah, I think we'll see a victory on
on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
Boys' Lenaris Jan Romero you can hear him this weekend
and moys is called for a wine.

Speaker 7 (01:02:14):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying again. They getting it and
play corner.

Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
Top buzz and to win. I'm calling it to come
on to yes, yes, Yes, thank you guys, thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:02:28):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
Love that.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
