Speaker 1 (00:19):
Welcome into the game plan with the head coach, dan Quinn,
Logan Pauls and I'm your host Brian Cope Jr. And
we are here in the Big Bear AI Command Censor Studio.
Coaches start things off. It's no no secret that we've
been banged up with injuries. How are you getting guys
through that, especially the guys that have never really dealt
with this level adversity at.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
This point in the season. Yeah, for sure, that's a
that's a big deal.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
And uh, on the field, you missed some of the continuity,
you know, the reps together and that. Then off the field,
you're just trying to make sure like uh, mindset, attitude,
had to play play style that we're that we've got
to nail that and uh as we're heading there for
good stretch of November Football Good the NFC Showdown, Like
we've got to make.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Sure that part, Bruh, that's at the top of the list.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
The attitude, the play style, the physicality like that has
to show up no matter where who's in how to
do it.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
But the continuity, that's the part.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
If you have to trim them things down to make
sure you can really execute, that's really what you have to.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Go do coach.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
We're in Atlanta used to do like a developmental days
for the practice squad guys. Is that still part of
the curriculum to kind of make sure you're helping those
guys maybe don't get all the reps gouts right.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
And so that takes place on Wednesday and Thursdays, and
it pays off because you don't know when that moment's
gonna come on the practice squad and you pray that
these injuries don't happen. You want the person on the
practice squad going up because we can't deny this guy anymore.
Like he is kicking ass in practice and find his way.
But we also know in the game the injuries happen,
and you don't know when your number is going to

(01:42):
be called.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
But you get to that spot.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Man, You got to train, man, you got to show
you're ready, and you do that in practice and then
when the moment comes, Okay, Ryan.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
He's ready. We can trust him.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
We can put him in. He's gonna you know, this
is the role we play him in. And now you
can set the course and have to do every play.
But these are the things that we know he can
nail every.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Time and somebody that you've seen that we've learned that
we can trust as a guy, Marcus Mariota, who will
be starting in place of Jade and Daniels. How beneficial
is that to have a guy that you know you
can plug in and not really lose a step because
he is so aware of how this offense works.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah, right from the end of last season when he
talked about free agency, like, you know, where was the
top Marcus? And he brings a lot on the field,
this opportunity to go play brings things off the field.
But he has command, he's got knowledge, he's got the
experience to go. He's a hell of a competitor. So yeah,
if tough moments like that happen, he's the type of

(02:33):
guy you want to lean into and say, Okay, now
go do it. And he is more than equipped and
ready to get down.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
And you guys have done such a good job building
like a really diverse kind of ecosystem for the quarterback.
How does Josh Johnson maybe fit in that and supporting
Marcus and his time as a starter.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, I think he's seen so many things and that's
what's a good thing. Like, it's honestly like one of
the best parts about.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Him, how much you see everything right, And so as.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
A coach you can go what what are you seeing?
You know, what is your lens look on this? And
now to have support for Marcus end game, what are
you seeing? And as the quarterback, what a good feeling
that is knowing one of my guys is looking watching
and seeing it from the lens of the helmet.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
And that's a big deal. And so yeah, it's really valuable.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
And coach you look at the choice defense, aggressive downhill
and we know this game is important for everybody, but
how much more important is it for our offensive line
to step up against a defense like this.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yeah, it's a big deal and it's one of the
best parts of our offense. And so the offensive line
being able to impose their will the run game, the
play passes, those have to mix, but those finishing the blocks,
second level clamping onto somebody, kickout blocks, running through the contact.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Not to it, and that allows us to go finish.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
So that's what we're calling on, you know, from our
offensive line this week.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
For sure. Once that gets gone bright as you know,
then some of the play passes to go. If you're
going to be that aggressive.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
You got to be both ways aggressive on offense, running
it play passing, back and forth, back and forth.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
And everyone thinks offensive line is like running the football,
but I think of them as protections, right, Like, you know,
one of the ways to help receivers get open is
protect let's make sure we get this targeted. How important
is that process this week and kind of building that
continuity with that group.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, and so with Sam being back now for a
few games, that's a big deal. It really starts with
the center, quarterback, the running backs because they set so
much of it logan. So they meet, you know, in
the evenings to go through what's this look?

Speaker 2 (04:24):
What would we call here?

Speaker 3 (04:25):
So think of the centers and the quarterbacks and the
running backs. Those guys have to be on the same page.
Now we know who's hot where we want to take
the slide to. So it's a really big piece of
playing good offense and culture.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
When you watch the film on the Choice defense, they
send a lot of man coverage.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
How can our offense exploit that?

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yeah, when you play man, then there's opportunities, you know
for playmakers to go make some plays to go do that.
And so it's not all downfield. Sometimes you think we'll
play man and man like throw the bomb.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Well, that's part of it.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Yeah, that's why I said, But there's also a lot
of things that make play and man difficult, and oftentimes
those are crossing routes and things to you know, disrupt
how that would look. And so having the balance between
man zone.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Sometimes you come to.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
The line with two different plays, one against man, one
against zone, and when you can get into that kind
of rhythm, then you can really put on the best
play for that moment.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
And that's what we'll dig into.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
And I think you school you said like the two
play thing, because like you know, you're watching the Minnesota
tape and you know J. J. McCarthy's up check into
his screen and like Marcus has got the ability to
do that. So I'm sure it gives you a ton
of flexibility in the offense.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yeah, for sure it does. And you know, whether that's
a screen that goes to a big one. There was
a shot to Terry and the Kansas City game. That's
it was a zero blitz to say, Okay, the play
that we had isn't as effective against this.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
What's the next best option? How to go through that?

Speaker 3 (05:47):
And so having those kind of checks and as coaches,
you call those answers, you know, where answers to solve
problems for the players. And if you can provide those
and see the look, now you can allow play to
play more quickly.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
This is the look. This is what we're gonna go do.
You have to practice it.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
And so for the team, having all the practices this
week live looks different looks.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
That's a big deal. The coach.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
We started a show talking about the losses on this
team due to injury, and you look at our defense,
Marshaun Lattimore. That leaves a big void. How do you
feel that voiding makeup for his absence?

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yeah, we're bummed.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
And uh you know Marshan like it's he's such a
good competitor in him and Luke. You know, these are
two like hardcore competitive guys. Man.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
They love to compete.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
It just shows them their tape and the way they
want to strain and fight for it. We're fortunate Jonathan
Jones being back off ir just you know a few
weeks now, lots of experience both outside and inside, and
so those are the moments that you know John is
here to be able to deliver and why he's here
and we're certain that he'll do that, but it it's

(06:51):
definitely a big loss.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Same with Luke and these guys.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Some get injured and it's for a shorter period and
all right, they're gonna get back. They're gonna get back
when it's for the season ending. Man, your heart goes
out to them, knowing how much they sacrifice, how much
they put into it, and we know that's part of it,
but it still sucks, and uh so for the ballplayer
for the team, but uh mostly as a player, you know,
like this is their space and their time and they
love to compete and so when you don't get to,

(07:16):
man that that leaves a void and it's hard.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
And so for marshaw On specifically, is it Dot it's
just one to one replacement. I'm sure it's like an
aggregat of people, you know, kind of mixing in where
they get in. Like, is that how you're gonna handle
it or is it he's going to take all those reps.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
No, it'll be some of mixing around as we'll go.
We're not going to give all the game plan away here.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
On the game plan.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Yeah, but you're right though that we're still balancing that sure,
and that may take you know, more than one game
to find that rhythm of what's the best place to go.
And as a team collectively, we've got to make sure
identity right all the way through. And uh, we've been

(08:00):
off and we need to capture it and we need
to capture it now.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Early in the week on Command Center, Logan and Santana
talked about all of these offensive playmakers.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
That they have for Detroit.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
How do you slow an offense like this down that
can hit you in so many different ways?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Well, I think there's a lot of speed, you know,
first off, you know, and say that part, you know,
how do you you know negate being on top certain
routes and the great equalizers, the inside pressure and so
those are sometimes the game within the game. You know,
it's the kin law and pains on the inside of
that pocket to move it. And so sometimes pass rush
isn't about the sack. Can I get pressure, Can I

(08:34):
get up in the quarterback space? Can I make them
disrupt and not have the same timing. So that's a
big piece of it, to make sure timing gets disrupted
disguises of coverage. Now I play action pass when the
quarterback looks one way and comes back it looks.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Differently, and we'll have to get the ball out.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Ron.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
That's a big beast for us.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
I'm glad you run up the pressure element too, because
they're a little bit banged up on the offensive line.
Like how is how important is it that those guys
kind of come with their best effort again to insulate
that group in the back yit?

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, and all every game there's you know, some matchups
within It's okay, amen, this is why this is.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
This is you and ready for that challenge. How to
how to go take it?

Speaker 3 (09:11):
You want players right now to play like their backs
they are against the wall, think like it, but not
overreact to plays and try to make things that aren't there.
And so that takes a lot of discipline loading to
stay in it, do my thing, don't try like we
need to go make this play over here and I
need to do this job here. And so the more

(09:32):
we can do that is collectively when in those matchups
when it comes, whether it was a wide receiver against
a man, a man that we were talking about earlier,
you know the inside of you know, the the offensive
and defensive line where those matchups are that's what makes
the game awesome, you know, all these little different matchups
and how do you go and every single week it's.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Different and coaching closing. We've talked about it all week.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
That Detroit wants to if they get back right after
us beating them in the Division.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
A round, this is a new season, though.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Is there anything you can take away from that win,
even though it was in the playoffs, even though it
was last year, Is anything you could take away that
you're using in this week's game plan for tonight's game.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
I'd say, all the hype for them to go against us,
all of our focus is on us, you know, and
how do we improve, And so that's the only thing
that's on our minds. Like battling, competing, you know, that's
all part of it. But in between the white lines
about that execution and all the emotion pre you know,
not going to come into how we're going to do
this matchup. And so we've got to play like we're

(10:28):
capable of at our best. They're an excellent team, But
last year's game it doesn't have nothing to do with
this year's game. It's about right now and who wants
to get down the most.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Always locked in on them now, Coach, we appreciate it.
We'll talk to you in a little bit, but it's
time for you and Logan get into the film stud
all what okay, command is family? Before we hear more
from our head coach Dan Quinn. If you are listening
on audio platforms, make sure you go to Commands YouTube
page right now so you could check out the film
room between Logan Paulson and head coach Dan Quinn.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Now more from head coach Stanclift. Coach has been a
fun show.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
But then closing before tonight's game, we want to ask
you what the message has been to these guys. We
understand the gravity of this game, we understand how tough
a team like Detroit is. We understand all the noise
going around. What's been your message to these guys that
keep them lockdown?

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Yeah, I told the team after practice the external noise
that doesn't fix anything internal and what internal is for us,
it's the meetings, most important part of our week, the practice.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
That's where we get each other better. Brian.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
So like, there's a number of things we need to
do to get our football aligned exactly like we want to.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
And if you're just watching from the top down to.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
See us man get these things fixed, get that part
looking like it's supposed to look. That's why we have
a strong culture to lean in and practice hard against
one another. And so that was the message. It was
really about our football getting in the ligne like we
want to. But it all comes from inside a practice
in our meetings. Like external noise that doesn't solve anything
that we want to get done.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Excited to see our guys bounce back tonight. Thank you
for your time, Commander Spending. This has been the game
plan with head coach dan Quinn. Logan Paulson, I'm your host,
Brian Cooper Junior, and we cannot wait to see y'all
tonight at Northwest Stadium when we take on the Troy line.

Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant.
