I was listening to a podcast theother day.
It's called the Happier Podcastby Gretchen Rubin, and it was
really interesting to me.
She called it the summer ofblank.
So it got me thinking what isthis summer going to be for me?
(01:11):
I thought and thought of allthe things that it could be and
I came up with something, butit's definitely not like the
prettiest thing For me.
I came up with the summer ofunused or underused.
It's not like the mostglamorous phrase, but what I was
thinking of is all of the booksthat I have on my shelves that
I have bought and never read, all of the clothes in my closet
(01:33):
that I either have never worn orhaven't worn in a very, very
long time.
I thought about, like thedishes that I have, we have this
special star plate that I hadwhen I was a little girl and
anytime somebody had a specialday they got.
We have this special star platethat I had when I was a little
girl and anytime somebody had aspecial day, they got to eat
from the star plate at dinnerand I have had the star plate.
My mom gave me the star plateand I was so excited to get it,
(01:54):
but I have only grabbed it acouple of times to use it, and
so I want to be able to rememberto use that more frequently for
, like big things like birthdays, but then also just for little
things, if somebody does well onan event that they're doing or
they did something reallyspecial that they just deserve
to be recognized, but to havethat for dinner time.
(02:14):
So I want to remember to do thatand I think about, like the
journals that I have that I'venever used and all you know, all
the things that I have in myhouse that I have bought because
I thought I would love them, orI actually really do love them,
but I haven't touched them orused them in a long time.
There's some skincare stuff, there's some makeup products
that I love and genuinely lovethem, some that I have that I
(02:38):
have never even tried.
Some of them I got for free,Some of them I did pay for, but
I have never tried some of them.
And so I want to actually likeput it into my routine and
practice to actually use all ofthese products this summer and
also same with my kids, like Iwant to use all of the things
that we have, like go throughall of the toys and actually
(02:59):
like play with them and use them.
The puzzles that we have, thegames that we have, actually use
them and, as summer goes on,pay attention to what we don't
use, and then at the end of thesummer, I can get rid of the
things that we don't really needor want, and I think it will be
a really fun way to make summerexciting and new.
(03:19):
But I'm not buying anything.
I'm using the things that Ialready have, so I am really
excited for that.
For my summer of unused andunderused.
I would love to hear your summerof whatever it is.
