As the NBA regular-season winds to a close and the Detroit Pistons will once again be among the playoff contestants, we felt it timely to share this Conversation with Rich Kaschalk an individual who's been part of the organizations official scoring crew dating back to the 1981-82 season.
Along the way we learn about Rich's early sports fan memories (Detroit Tigers on the radio) growing up in a family with 10 children. Many of his early core memories are of the magical 1968 Tigers' season and Al Kaline, Dick McAuliffe, and Mickey Stanley. He remembers only a few times the entire family went to Tiger Stadium, but one was on a Bat Day doubleheader against the New York Yankees and pitcher Mel Stottlemyre.
We also learn of his own athletic prowess which led to playing some college baseball at Detroit's Wayne State University, the decision to step off the diamond and focus on his accounting studies, and how he came to work for the Pistons as well some of highs and lows that he's witnessed after over 40 years on the sidelines for home games.
