We're joined in this episode by Stephen Miller a Seattle-area native and longtime resident of the Emerald City.
The son of English immigrants, Stephen was smitten by soccer at an early age and it continues today. We discuss plenty about the Sounders, the Reign, how the Pacific Northwest (including Portland and Vancouver) is a soccer hotbed, and its men's squads even play for the Cascadia Cup.
Stephen is a product of the University of California, Berkeley and even studied under famed sociologist Dr. Harry Edwards which has, no doubt, helped undergird Stephen's activist nature as an educator and union leader.
During our discussion we touch on Seattle sports icons such as the Mariners' Edgar Martinez, the Seahawks' Steve Largent, and a pair whom Stephen calls the "First Couple" of Seattle sports, Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe.
There's plenty more for listeners to uncover including the status of his quest to visit all Major League Stadiums, his history as a coach of badminton (!?!) among other sports, the importance of athletics for students, the evolution of women's sports, and his excited anticipation for both the FIFA Club World Cup this year and the FIFA World Cup '26 next year that will feature matches in Seattle.
