Welcome to Bikin' Bits - a bit about bikin' - so you don't have to look forever to find the trails you want to ride. Where we tell you the loops to ride, the loopdy-loops to ride, the uphills, the downhills.
Where we summarize the trails, so you know exactly where you want to go, how long you want to spend, how much elevation you want to gain and how much descent you want to fly down. And of course there'll be a brewery recommendation or two at the end.
Patagonia is a tiny little town in southern Arizona known for its big heart and gravel biking trails. But that doesn't stop the mountain bikers from paying a visit here. It's a welcoming place for all, including through hikers on the 800 mile Arizona Trail.
Park in town in Patagonia right across from the Patagonia Lumber Company. This is very important because the Lumber Company is actually a beer and wine bar and makes for a great reward when done biking.
Start in town and then head to Temporal Canyon Rd - about 6.6 miles of gravel road with around 800 feet of gain. Bonus: This road has some dispersed camping along the way.
Then you'll be at a trailhead for the Arizona Trail where you'll get on the Temporal Gulch West Trail. Prepare yourself. This section is 4.5 miles with a 1,000 feet of gain.
Finally, you're rewarded with 7.5 miles of down on the Temporal Gulch South Trail - descending about 1100 feet. Added not so bonus: dodging cow pies!
Then head back towards town by going under the bridge and getting on the Patagonia Train Track Trail for the last 4.5 miles.
For the detailed map, check out the Temporal Loop Ride on Trailforks.
Where to drink the beer after biking the Temporal Loop in Patagonia? Patagonia Lumber Company, once an old lumber company and now a brilliant hangout with food trucks, craft beer, wine, and live music.
If you have more time, head on over to Wagon Wheel Saloon for a dive bar vibe with good food and cold beer.
Want more beer? Not a problem! Head to Sonoita to hit up Copper Brothel Brewery for quality brews, food, and people!
