Wander inside one of Denver's newest breweries, Wanderment Brewing, and you won't be disappointed. John and Melanie Flaherty, husband and wife team and business partners, alongside their other partner, Sam Odom, have opened up a place that is far from cookie-cutter. This ain't no open-your-box-and-here's-your-brewery, brewery.
Born out of a love for craft beer, music, and a passion for creating something with meaning, Wanderment invites anyone into its space. But if you love a bit of metal music (never too loud, conversation and connections are very important here) while seated on plush stools, surrounded by cozy darkness, this is your third space.
But the beer here comes first. As it should. John's love for the science behind the beer combines well with his passion for creativity. Serving up well-crafted beers such as his Flaherty's Dry Irish Stout (he is Irish after all) and his now flagship Vertigo West Coast IPA, amongst many others, Wanderment Brewing aims to please.
That aim extends much further than you might think. The dream here is to brew all of the above but also place a focus on rustic ales, meaning saisons and farmhouse ales using mixed culture fermentation giving these beers down-to-earth, complex flavors that will tantalize your taste buds.
One of his first forays into this style is his Changing Times Mixed Culture Saison. This ale was aged on dandelion flowers and light French oak, and it was fantastic!
John's foray into the craft beer scene was in Florida where his first craft beer was Cigar City's Jai Alai. After experiencing the flavors from that beer, he wanted more, so he ordered a homebrew kit and started brewing - at home and many other breweries throughout Denver.
And while software development was his full-time job, which he still works full-time, his dream of brewing professionally has come to fruition at Wanderment Brewing. John is excited about what the future holds for him and his partners. He, Melanie, and Sam will ensure that Wanderment finds its own in Denver, and it will be (and already is) a true gathering place. One where the beer you drink is just as good, if not better, than the friends you'll meet here.
Join us as we chat more about Wanderment's future plans and how he got it started in the first place. We'll also talk travel, Oktoberfest, music, and of course, beer.
As always, we aim to inspire. So if you're thinking of opening a brewery or you're just a lover of the craft and enjoy the stories behind the beer, tune in for this great conversation with a great human being!

Ruthie's Table 4
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
