As we are now starting to open up globally, cinemas return with the dynamic and nostalgic shared experience only a movie theatre can bring.
The combination of image & score can affect us so deeply, it’s no surprise we hold the movie-going experience so dear to our cultures. The creativity derived from the onset of the moving image has been astounding & so extraordinarily influential on how we tell stories.
So powerful are these creative gems, they become inseparable from their scores, can be recognized with one line, and immediately felt emotionally with a 10 second clip.
John & Gordon talk about the influence of film on their Creative processes and way of thinking creatively. Each choose 1 film which forever changed the way they viewed film, understood story, heard scores differently and simply rocked their world.
John has chosen the 1985 John Hughes classic “The Breakfast Club” to discuss his relationship to the experience of the film and how he finds Creative influence in its story and characters.
Gordon has selected the shockingly dark and deeply emotive “Blue Velvet” (1986) by David Lynch, to discuss the larger picture of what affects our world, our relationships, transformations and the beauty found in life. The Creative influences are endless when you have David Lynch directing and writing, and Angelo Badalamenti creating the atmospheric and mood altering score.
Gordon discusses meeting with Geena Davis (Disney Parks Ambassador) and how her Geena Davis Institute is changing the faces we see on the big and small screen, as well as those responsible for creating the stories. “If she can see it, she can be it” is the mantra that has expanded beyond bringing more women into visibility in all walks of life - but to the multitudes of diverse people who are under-represented today.
Please take a look at all the amazing work the Geena Davis Institute is doing & creating!

Ruthie's Table 4
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
