Jennifer Logue (00:10):
Hello everyone and welcome to Creative Space, a
podcast where we explore, learnand grow in creativity together
.
My name is Jennifer Logue andtoday we're talking about that
elusive, magical state we allchase creative flow.
I got an email from Sam, afilmmaker and musician in Austin

(00:31):
, who had a great question aboutthis.
Here's what Sam wrote Hi,jennifer, I've been struggling
to get into that zone whereeverything just flows naturally.
I know I do my best work whenI'm in that state, but it seems
so hard to reach.
Do you have any tips on how toget into creative flow more

(00:52):
often, sam?
Sam, first off, thank you somuch for reaching out.
Flow is something we all strivefor, but it can be tricky to
get into right.
Let's talk about some ways toinvite that flow state into our
lives more often.
Tip number one create adistraction-free zone.

(01:14):
First of all, setting up aspace where you can work without
distractions is key.
It doesn't have to be a fancystudio.
It can just be a spot where youfeel comfortable and won't be
interrupted.
Turn off the notifications onyour phone, close the door and
give yourself permission tofocus.
Tip number two have apre-creative routine.

(01:37):
Think of it like warming upbefore a workout.
A little ritual can signal toyour brain that it's time to get
creative.
Maybe it's brewing a cup of tea, playing a favorite song or
doing a quick stretch.
Find out what works for you andstick with it.
And I have my cup of tea righthere.
It's part of my little routine.

(02:00):
Tip number three set clear smallgoals.
It's easier to get into flowwhen you're focused on one
specific task Instead ofthinking I need to finish this
entire project.
Slow your roll.
Try breaking it down.
I'm going to write the firstparagraph or I'll sketch the
basic outline.

(02:21):
Small goals help keep youfocused and engaged.
Tip number four choose thebasic outline.
Small goals help keep youfocused and engaged.
Tip number four choose the righttime.
Pay attention to when you feelmost creative.
Some people are morning people, like me, others are night owls.
Try to schedule your creativetime when you're naturally at

(02:41):
your best.
It makes getting into flow alot easier.
And tip number five don't forceit.
Don't stress if it doesn'thappen right away.
Flow is like a cat.
You can't make it come to you,but you can create the right
environment for it to show up.

(03:02):
If you're not feeling it, takea break, do something different
and come back later.
Anyway, sam, I hope these tipshelp you find your flow state
more often.
It's a wonderful feeling whenit all clicks and with a little
practice it'll come morenaturally.
And to everyone else, if youhave questions or topics you

(03:24):
want me to cover, just reach out.
I'm here to help.
Thanks for listening and untilnext time, keep creating and
enjoy the process.
Thank you.
