There's a reason running backs have the shortest "life span" in the NFL: the position is brutal on the body. When they get the ball, they either to try to run through massively built men or cut to one side or the other and make them miss. The hits take a toll and the cuts are knee killers. But when running backs are healthy, they can be special. Colorado native Kevin McDougal was special. When the ball was handed to him at Arvada West or Colorado State University, you knew a gain was coming, usually a big one. He set records and won awards in college, like the 1999 Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He decided to make a go at the next level after going undrafted and made the 53 man roster with the Colts for two years. Then he got cut. He tried the Canadian Football League and lasted 2 months due to injury. On the long drive back from Montreal, Kevin was honest with himself and decided to hang up his cleats. After his playing days, he worked in oil & gas and went through a few jobs with the up and down cycle of that industry. Today, Kevin and his wife Holli are Team McDougal Realtors with RE/MAX Advanced in Fort Collins.
