Awesome, welcome, welcome, welcome.
You've been here before.
You've even hosted this showbefore.
For me, it's so nice to haveyou back, and the reason why
we're doing this specific topicis because in April of 2022,
when you hosted the show you hadput out a challenge about why

you picked the career that youdid and put out a challenge to
me, so then I did a recordingnot too long after that.
So why do people choose whatthey want when it comes to their
career?
Why and so that was thechallenge.

(01:58):
It's like what is the stepsthat go through?
Let's introduce Makota.
She is now a teacher.
Yes, like I said, if you'veever heard her, she's worked on
dynamic show, dynamic series,kid dynamics.
She's been a big part of that,and then she has a whole other

(02:19):
full life as well, outside ofhelping us with our stuff here.
So, makota, why don't you justbriefly overview where you are
now and then we'll get into somequestions?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
well, where I am right now is a first grade
teacher in my local school and,yeah, that's been the biggest
change so far.
Before that, I was a tutor, soI got to really get some good,
wholesome experiences on how toreally manage students and how
to be the best that I can be foreducating them awesome.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Congratulations on that, thank you, yeah, so I'd
like to just start and set thetone for our time together,
because the intention is toexperience this show fully and
dynamically.
So let's all bring ourattention to this now moment and
listen with an open heart andopen mind.

(03:17):
So, to start, we always ask aquestion to our listeners and
it's like have you ever foundyourself in a position of not
knowing what your career isgoing to be?
Maybe you just finished schooland you're like, wow, what now

(03:39):
you know, because you're notquite sure sometimes you know
about what.
So have you ever found yourselfjust in that position with what
do I do now?
Like I took something in school, but maybe I don't want to
spend two to four to six toeight to ten years of more study

(04:00):
to go forward on something thatyou want.
So picking your career is huge.
So if you're just joining usnow and you haven't gone back in
our Dynamic Show podcast beforeit's April of 2022.
It'll be two recordings, likewithin a couple of weeks of each

might make a little bit moresense.
So, makota, just summarize whydid you, what did you pick as a
career and why did you pick it,and are you still happy with

(04:42):
your choice?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
That's a very big question, for sure.
Well, I picked education firstand I thought that education was
something that I wanted to doand that would motivate me to be
better and to help peoplearound me, and I still feel that
way.
I've been able to, like I saidearlier, do tutoring.

(05:04):
I've had a lot of experiencebefore that doing different
types of things like mentoring,and I think that was the biggest
pull for me is wanting to helppeople and to have them have
that eureka moment when theyhave learned something that they
didn't beforehand, and to bebetter for themselves.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Well, that's an awesome knowing that you have.
Now you say you're still happywith that.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
you picked education still happy with that.
You picked education.
Yes, I think that maybe I mayeventually switch to a different
grade level or to a differenttype of education, maybe, but I
think that just the principle ofbeing able to help students and
to get them to know them asindividuals and to understand
how different everyone has tolearn and how they act and their
personalities, and all that issomething that I really didn't

(05:53):
think about before now yes, andwe honor not only you as a
teacher but all teachers,because we had I had the
opportunity to go in a bit withher before it started and you
were taking over a classroomfrom a teacher that had left.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
So you're just working with the, you know what
was there.
And then I remember it's justlike, okay, what do we want to
do?
And you're like you know,because you know they, they
leave a whole bunch of stuffthere, or some some of them do
anyway.
So then you had to decidewhether or not you wanted a
theme or what colors that youwere like.

(06:35):
There's a whole lot to do whenit comes to setting up the
classroom even before the yearstarts, because sometimes you
don't have your curriculum,sometimes you don't know what is
going to be, and especiallybecause you were the grade one
teacher in a new school.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
So it's not like you had been there before.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
So how did that make you feel from like, oh, this is
brand new, so what's you knowwhat's going to unfold for you?
How did you feel?

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Well, it was a bit overwhelming.
I went into that school noteven knowing my class list yet,
Not knowing you know how manykids I would have, not knowing
what would be a good theme orwhat do I need to have in my
classroom, what was I going tobe getting later on.
So it was a lot of things thatI had to kind of think about and

(07:26):
really prioritize.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
What was the most important thing and what could I
just learn later and get helpfrom with my seniors of my
school well, that makes, yeah, alot of sense, because it's like
, I guess, if thinking even ofour audience and the multitude
of careers that they're theyhave right now, and it's like

(07:50):
going into and starting a newposition, especially because if
you go right out of college,university, even transferring it
from jobs from one company toanother or whatever it might be,
it's just like there's alwaysthat excitement yet nervousness
all wrapped into one, becauseyou're like the unknown and what

(08:13):
do you expect?
and you know and all that stuff.
So now, if you'd like to updatethem, because you're a busy
person right now, you're, you'revery, very busy.
So what else is going on?
You, you teach grade one andwhat else are you doing right
now?

Speaker 2 (08:32):
I'm also doing my master's program for a master of
education, advanced teaching sothat's another big step in
being able to just learn more.
And that was the biggest reasonI'm doing it is that I didn't
want to just settle or feel likeit was enough, especially as an
educator, that things arealways changing and moving and
it's important to just be asalert as possible for those

(08:53):
types of things.
Congratulations.
How much more time do you haveleft for that?
I think I'll be graduatingabout next August, so quite a
bit left still, but I'm gettinginto the more specific courses
for the concentrations that I'mdoing, so that'll, you know,
make a big difference on whatI'm actually learning.
I think so.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
So, yes, and then we'll do another update when
you're done that, becausethat'll be another career
challenge.
Update number two because,it'll be interesting to see
after you have finished yourfirst year of teaching, grade
one, where you're at, but thenafter that is like when you're

(09:37):
done your program, it's justlike what do you want to do?

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Do you?

Speaker 1 (09:40):
still want to teach a younger age?
Do you want to go intoadministration?
Do you want to go intocurriculum?
There's so many things that youcan do in education.
It's so exciting.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Yes, it is very exciting, but you have a full
load because you're you do thefull-time teaching and then
coming home and then doing yourmaster's online, so it's like
yeah, it's quite a lot, but youknow it's that's the fun part
about it is that now that I'mlearning so much, I get to
really see the different pointsof view, and it's definitely

(10:14):
worth it.
You know, learning while I'mactually doing it, but then also
applying that knowledge toprojects and assignments that
I'm doing.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
So it really helps me understand that concept a lot
better, because you have thefirsthand experience of being
able to just have it unfoldright in front of your eyes with
the kids like you have that,like, oh, this concept, let's
try it out.
You know, we're still keepingin mind of keeping teaching the

(10:43):
curriculum that your school has,but yet the concepts and the
concentrations being able to dothat.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
So yes, it's very awesome being able to literally
see a project and be like, oh,try this type of teaching method
.
Or if you have tried it, andbecause a lot of those people
have been education for a longtime that are in my master's
degree.
Maybe they did, you know, eightyears ago or a few years ago,
but for me I can do it right inthat moment and really see how,
if it's still effective thatmethod.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
So that's really interesting to me yes, that's
why I always thought that atsome point you might go into the
administration or curriculumside, because you, you know, you
know the value of like keeping,keeping it current and you know
you you're a younger age, soyou have the fresh new ideas and

(11:34):
sort of like.
These generational thinggenerate X and Y and Z and all
that.
You know, gen stuff, that thatthat we have, you know in
society and but sort of relatingof how they have learned along
the way.
You know what's relatable forkids and how are they
understanding, because there'llalways be new methods and with

(11:56):
all the technology and AI andeverything coming up, it's like
like how do you guys keep upwith all of that?
Even now?
We don't really.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
I think that's the biggest thing is that that's the
biggest thing I've noticed witheducation is thinking about
back when I was in first grade.
Compared to what I have toteach these first graders is
night and day.
The amount of things that theyhave to learn, at least where I
am living or we're living, isjust crazy.
But it's just.
You don't even think aboutthose things when you're in
first grade.
You don't think that it'sdifficult or too much or

(12:27):
anything like that.
So it's really fun to be ableto kind of see it from the
perspective of what was Ilearning at this age?
And then what am I teachingthem and how do I kind of take
what I learned in school andmake it a bit more fun, because
sometimes the curriculum is notalways the funnest to teach.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yeah, I think it's like any curriculum though.
It's like here it is.
You know, even the kid dynamicscurriculum is like here it is
what do you want to do with it?
And the more you into it, themore you'll get out of it from
the kids, right.
And then it's having thoseoptions of never doing it.
One way there's always morethan one way to bring your
information across, to keep thekids, because you can feel them

(13:06):
right away, and I know, eventeaching the Kid Dynamics
Program, you know if they'reengaged.
Yes, you know if they'reengaged.
Yes, you can tell by their, youknow their body language, the
eye contact, like everything,even their energy, of whether,
like, are they getting this, arethey engaged with it?
And then, and then being ableto shift right in that moment

(13:26):
yes if, if not, you know ifyou've lost them or they're off
somewhere.
But you'll always have, you know, one or two or three kids that
might do that anyway, but youknow it's interesting.
So congratulations, you're onsuch a cool journey.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
I think so as well.
Well, now that we've talkedabout my update, I'd love to
hear what your update has beenoh, thank you for asking my
career update.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
I well, we moved, yes , and that felt like a career in
itself, just moving, and youknow anyone that's moved in our
audience what it's like.
But we've moved sort of twicein the last year and a half or
whatever two years.
So it was all.
It was all about putting mycareer on the side because I had

(14:16):
, as everyone know, I hadretired from the airline
business a while ago and thenI'd just been working with my
husband, but then primarilyworking on Kid Dynamics and
Dynamics series and thisDynamics show.
So I do that when mostly I'minspired to do it.

(14:41):
Now a lot of people will go well, it needs to be weekly, or it
needs to be monthly, or it needsit.
No, in my world, nothing needsto happen.
I don't want to put out contentif I'm not feeling it.
So I have committed myself toonce a month.
So I will put out somethingonce a month, and if you get

(15:02):
more because you know that'sjust what works, then great.
And if not, then I usually putsomething out on social media to
say, hey, this is going on inour lives right now, so you
won't be getting a show oranything for us so right.
So thanks for asking.
It's still.
It's still my, my full,heartfelt gift to this world is

(15:30):
to work on the those threethings.
And the interesting part is kiddynamics started first because
it's been taught for many yearsand still is, and then I went
into dynamic series, whichincorporates kid dynamics.
But then they're like oh,podcast, let's do the podcast.
So now it's getting into likecourses, e-books and more on

(15:56):
social media stuff.
Even though I don't like goingon it very often, I do know that
it's our way to connect andMakota has been part of that,
off and on, not so much anymore,but I still ask for her as a
consulting as to what you know,what should happen or what would

(16:19):
be a good thing or what wouldthe kids connect with, more
bringing it across something,across a certain way.
So what is the challenge now,then?

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Challenges to meet up when you've done your master's
and done my first year, done themaster's program and then kind
of see what has changed.
You know what did I reallylearn through my master's
program?
Uh, you know what did I do mydissertation on how was my first
year of teaching, you know?
Did I go back for a second year?
Did I change schools?

(16:47):
Did I change grade levels?
You know, all those thingscould change in the year that we
have a little bit less than ayear, I guess now.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
So yeah, and one of the themes of kid dynamics is
change.
Life is constantly changing, soit's easy for things to change.
And then I'll update you aswell Not just you, the audience
Update on what's happening andwhat's going on.
But you know that we are here,we're not going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
Not for a bit anyway, but things change all the time,
so what would you like to leavethe audience with when it comes
to good advice?
Good, heartfelt, strong, yourexperience advice as far as
choosing the career and any youknow thoughts around that?

Speaker 2 (17:39):
I guess the biggest thing is to make sure that you
have your path.
I think that's the biggestthing that I've noticed is that
you, especially as a teacher,might have ways of doing things
or ways that you can teach allthese types of things, but for
you, as long as you know what ismost important for you, your
classroom and you as a person,that's all that really matters.

(18:01):
You can take on advice andmaybe take some tips from them,
but make sure not to feed intoall of that and just to become
something that you don't want tobe, especially when it's
something that you're passionateabout.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Right Be your own unique, authentic teacher.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Yes, or engineer or whatever yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
What about?
What would you give as anadvice for someone that hasn't
quite decided what their careermight be Like?
How did you figure out what youmight want to do, like what?
What were the steps or what wasyou know something where you
chose to be in education?

Speaker 2 (18:43):
I think the biggest thing for me that helped me is
because for a while I didn'tknow I had to take quite a while
to think about it but was thequalities that you enjoy doing
and figuring out if that's acareer path.
So, even though I could havebeen a teacher, I could have
also been, you know, a manageror something like that, because
I like being able to help peopleand solve problems and all

(19:05):
those things.
So figuring out the skills thatyou're good at or that you
enjoy doing that make you feelhappy and you'll be surprised at
how many different optionsthere are.
And just being okay with notknowing for a bit or having to
change your mind is totally fine, because you know I might not
be a teacher in five years, butat least at the moment, right
now, I do want to be.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
So don't hold on to things that you are passionate
about anymore or try to becomepassionate about them again
through experience or, you know,going through a master's or
learning more about stuff yeah,that's good, and I think I I
resonate the most with thequalities, like sometimes we try
to fit into a box or we try tofit into like okay, well, if you

(19:47):
want to be this, this is thequalities that you have to have.
So it's like you try to changeyourself to fit into that.
Now you look at any kind oflike job sometimes or careers,
and it's just like they want allthese qualities.
But I don't know that anyone Imean I'm sure it happens, but
sometimes you just want to knowyour qualities first and then

(20:12):
you know there should besomething online.
If there's not, this says whatare your five top qualities?

Speaker 2 (20:17):
And then what?
Kind of job or career shouldyou go into, I'm sure there's
something.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
So I think there's assessments they do in school
sometimes too.
That will will help you likemore, clarify what it is.
But I really like that get thequalities, be those qualities
and then attract that stuff toyou.
So, exactly, yeah, we want tosay thank you.
