Intrusive thoughts and emotions are a significant problem within mental and emotional illness. This is especially true for members of the Church of Jesus Christ and other Christians. Thoughts of death, sexuality and worthlessness are just a portion of what we battle as we attempt to manage a difficult illness. However, the Lord is infinitely merciful and kind to those who suffer.
Returning home from a full-time LDS mission early is one of the more difficult trials one will face. Not only must you navigate a new life but you must do so with disappointed friends, family and peers all while battling a terribly controlling illness that highjacks your emotional and spiritual welfare.
We all wonder at times whether the Lord loves us. We wonder if our relationship is growing. Many times we desperately seek and hope to feel that love. I hope this message helps you to see just how loved you are.
As the lepers cried out during Christ's day so do others whose fate is similar to the lepers. Addiction affects more than the person who is suffering. It is a power of mind and body that needs the power of the Savior.

So often in this world of pressures, priorities and pledges to succeed, we find the wreckage of the emotionally exhausted individual. One who has pushed beyond their emotional and physical capacity and found a crevasse so dark and deep, it is difficult to see anything much less a way out.

Our close friends, spouse and family can literally become a part of our identity. When we lose these people it can be as though we have lost ourselves.

Sexual abuse and assault are perhaps the most heinous type of sin perpetrated upon the innocent victim. The wounds can run deep and cause great distress leading to mental and emotional health concerns. The Lord weeps for those who suffer and desires that they find his healing balm with the embrace of the Atonement of Christ.

Doubt in the gospel, doubt in ourselves, doubt in our emotional day to day experience is terribly unnerving. Doubt is an emotion and when we come to understand how doubt works in our lives, especially in our mental health lives we can better adjust to its consistent companionship in our lives.
Healing is such a personal topic. Each of us desires healing and restoration but healing does not generally come from a dramatic miracle. More often it comes through a process of healing rather than the miracle. And often the Lord's healing and our healing will differ in time, effort and proceess.

When we suffer from mental health problems, it can be very difficult to feel forgiven. That is the nature of the illness. Depression and Anxiety are going to feel similar to sin. Yet there are ways we can work through this problem with the help of the Lord.
Keeping yearly resolutions can be tough for anyone but when you suffer from an illness that effects your desires, motivations and intent, it can be nearly impossible. However, even with a mental health challenge there are ways to set goals that can keep us on track.

Suicidal ideation is by its very nature not sin. Suicidal thoughts are one of the ways the body elevates emotional issues to the forefront of our mind. While we should not dwell upon suicide or thoughts of death, it is not sinful to have them.
