Speaker 1 (00:00):
A deep change in the way that we live requires a deep
change in the way that we think.
I'm Carla Reeves and this isDifferently, hey, differently
listeners, I think you'veprobably heard me say it before,
but I feel like I am arecovering workaholic.
Busyness consumed my mind andmy time for years.

(00:23):
I ran from minute to minutewith time on my back, trying to
fit in as much as I could.
I worked hard to get better andfaster so I could stuff more
doing into my life.
It seemed that if I could justfit in enough doing, it would
one day be enough, and thatwould mean I was enough.

(00:43):
While my life was full andsomewhat put together on the
outside, I was bankrupt andempty on the inside, and the day
I finally admitted this truthto myself was the day things
began to take a far differentand more fulfilling shape.
I knew there had to be a betterway to living life, but I
didn't have a clue how to getthere.

(01:04):
I made it my mission to figureout a different way, and in
today's episode, I'm sharingthree new ways of thinking that
I had to adopt in order tocreate a way of doing life that
was far more meaningful, and Iwant to share those with you.
Number one the endless to-dolist does not lead to

(01:26):
fulfillment.
I had to come to grips with thefact that no amount of checked
off items on my to-do list wouldlead to the deeper level of
fulfillment I craved.
I was in the wrong lane toreach that destination and this
path I had been on was a deadend, or rather a bottomless pit.
The lure of the list is socompelling and creates a

(01:50):
convincing illusion that once weget these things complete, the
milestone checked, we will atlast have arrived and feel like
we've done enough and, moreimportantly, are enough.
In reality.
The good feelings were onlyfleeting, and to sustain them
required me jumping back intothe never-ending spin of doing.

(02:12):
Accepting the reality of what Iwas doing is the very thing
that allowed me to stop doingmore and start doing differently
.
Number two enough I'm doing.
Air quotes is an inside job.
Up until this point, I'dfocused on the outside.
I had diligently spent enormousamounts of energy attempting to

(02:36):
line things up on the outsidejob spouse, get married, get a
house, and on and on and onthinking that if enough things
lined up, I'd feel better.
That didn't work.
I began to see that mycontinued obedience to the list
was never ending and guaranteedmore of the same.
I saw for the first time that Iwould need to cultivate enough

(03:00):
inside before I could ever feelenough on the outside, and so I
began tending the inside, bit bybit.
Number three new way ofthinking I had to adopt was to
start to enjoy the to-do listsfor what they are, instead of

(03:21):
letting them run my life.
I had to change my relationshipto them.
You can do this too.
Your to-do lists are a tool toempower you, not run you ragged.
I love lists and I still makelots of lists.
The difference is the list isno longer running my life, but
is a tool to keep me organizedin my life.

(03:43):
A client recently had a similarinsight and beautifully said
this in her journal quotes I amrecognizing that I need to
change my perspective on my list.
Instead of overpowering me, itneeds to empower me.
In summary, if you're ready tomove beyond busy, here's three

(04:05):
things One, upgrade your to-dolists.
Number two, instead of worryingabout doing enough, cultivate
an inner life that is enough.
Incorporate quiet time, time toreflect prayer, meditation,
journaling and so on.
Act prayer, meditation, journaling and so on.
And number three enjoy yourto-do lists, but remember they

(04:28):
don't get to run your life.
You do, and they are a tool toempower you in doing that.
Busy is a choice and if youwant to move beyond busy but it
feels nearly impossible, go toCarlaReevescom and schedule a
call with me.
This is my life's work to helphyper achievers and high

(04:49):
achievers get out of busysurvival so they can build a
life intentionally.
Have an incredible daydifferently.
Listeners, I look forward toseeing you soon.
Thank you for making it all theway to the end and thank you
for listening to differently.
