Speaker 1 (00:02):
I'm Carla Reeves, and
this is Differently.
Whether you feel stuck insurvival, navigating a change,
or seeking more for your life, may this podcast be your weekly
nudge to take a risk to build alife that is uniquely bold,
authentic and in alignment withyour deepest values.
What if you worried less aboutthe bumps in the road and
(00:24):
instead got equipped for thejourney?
Get ready to rethink what'spossible.
So, for those of you who havebeen listening for some time,
you've heard me talk about howthere's this default way of
living life, and that defaultway of living life often leaves
(00:45):
us feeling at the mercy of ourcircumstances, feeling powerless
, sometimes resigned, defeatedand like we're going through the
motions, that feeling ofGroundhog Day and autopilot.
So a couple episodes ago, episode 71 called you have the
Power to Choose I shared myfirst experience of really
(01:10):
understanding the power ofchoice that we have in our life
and the profound difference itbegan to make in my life.
And if you didn't listen tothat, I encourage you to go back
because it will inspire youwith this idea of that our
everyday life can be the mostincredible, fulfilling, creative
(01:33):
adventure that you've everembarked on.
My husband and I were talkingthe other day and, in case you
didn't know, he's been in theloop around my business from the
get-go and now more involvedthan ever, and he said to me the
other day that the work thatI've been doing and the work
(01:56):
that I do with clients he saidit's really about teaching
people to be the entrepreneur oftheir life.
And I said to him with aresounding yes, that's it.
That really is it.
And when I think aboutentrepreneurs, my dad was an
incredible entrepreneur.
I'm sure that's why, from anearly age, I always had this
(02:20):
love and admiration for theentrepreneur and for
entrepreneurial minded people.
And when I looked up thedefinition of entrepreneur in
the Oxford Languages Dictionary,it talks about a person who
organizes and operates abusiness or businesses, taking
(02:40):
on greater than normal financialrisks in order to do so and
reaping the rewards.
An entrepreneur is an innovator.
And when I looked up innovator,it has other words such as
groundbreaker, pioneer,trailblazer.
It's a noun and it's describedas a person or group that
(03:00):
introduces something new or doessomething for the first time.
Being innovative means doingthings differently, ha ha or
doing things that have neverbeen done before.
An innovator is someone who hasembraced this idea and creates
environments in which people andemployees are given the tools
(03:24):
and resources to challenge thestatus quo, push boundaries and
achieve growth.
In Forbes, they had an articleabout the qualities of an
entrepreneur and I curiouslytook a look at those and I want
to share those with you.
Qualities of an entrepreneurare robust work ethic, deep
(03:45):
passion, creativity, motivatedself-starter, adaptability,
eager to learn.
What if you took thesequalities and applied them to
being the entrepreneur of youreveryday life?
For the last two decades, thisis what I have been doing in my
own life.
(04:06):
This is what Quentin and I havebeen doing in our marriage and
family and home and lifetogether, and it is my life's
work to share, empower and equipyou to do this in your life.
Let's take a look at each ofthese qualities and how it can
be applied to your everyday life.
(04:27):
Number one robust work ethic.
So in business, this looks likebeing the first to arrive at
the office and the last to leave, always having work on their
mind.
It's this relentless pursuitfor something and this
willingness to do whatever ittakes to make it happen.
In life, what if we had thissame relentless pursuit, but for
(04:54):
the kind of life that we wantto live and create for the
purpose we want it to have, forthe contribution we want to make
, and on and on and on Deeppassion.
So in business, it takes thisto keep the business strong and
going and to sustain motivation, especially when things are not
(05:17):
happening the way you think theyshould or they ought to be, or
you're not generating therevenue you want to or making
the progress that you intended.
This deep passion sustains youin life.
What is your deep passion whenit comes to life?
And what if you channeled yourincredible drive and energy not
(05:39):
just into one area of your life, but intentionally into all
domains of your life?
Imagine the impact In abusiness, an entrepreneur has a
vision and a mission, andthey're constantly keeping their
eye on this.
This forges the businessforward and carries the
(05:59):
entrepreneur's motivation andenergy on days when things are
not where they want them to be.
What if, in life, youapproached your life this way?
What if you had a vision and amission that you kept in front
of you and that called youforward?
I take clients through anexercise in my eight-week
private coaching program, wherethey create a commitment compass
, and this serves as a guide, asa pillar that helps them to
(06:22):
align their everyday actions andchoices.
Number three creativity In abusiness.
Companies that thrive are builtfrom wild creativity.
They are forced to come up withoriginal ideas and ways of
doing things In life.
Tapping into your inherentcreativity and using that to
(06:43):
approach, adjust the way youshow up and design your everyday
life in a way that lights youup is a talent and a path that
you have available to you butthat most people don't know to
tap into it.
This is one of my very favoriteparts of working with clients
(07:06):
and a huge part of my passionbehind this podcast, because
helping you to think, see and dodifferently is where magic
happens, because this is whereamazing things like doors that
felt like they were shut, orrelationships that were stuck or
falling apart, or opportunitiesthat were non existent,
(07:29):
suddenly change and somethingbecomes possible when you change
the dance of what you're doingand you're willing to do
differently.
And that takes creativity.
And this is what happens whenyou approach your life with a
lens and a tool set ofcreativity.
And if you're listening andwondering or questioning or
(07:50):
telling yourself you're notcreative, I want to remind you
that everyone is creative.
It just may not look like thedefinition that you've labeled
it as in your mind, and thereare ways to be creative in your
everyday life that have nothingto do with artistic talent or
ability.
(08:11):
Number four being a motivatedself starter.
So in business, you know, entrepreneurs don't give up at
the first sign of struggle.
They don't put off what needsaddressing, they take the
initiative, they accept thechallenge and they keep showing
up and pushing through, nomatter what.
When you're the entrepreneur ofyour life, you do what it takes
(08:34):
to continue to show up foryourself and your life despite
the challenges.
You address things as they comeup versus letting them fester.
You take initiative to solveproblems and communicate
powerfully and be the one tolove deeply for the sake of
something much greater.
When I think of this in my ownlife, I think of the work
(08:56):
Quentin and I have done tocreate something different, out
of the ordinary when it comes toour marriage and what that has
required.
It's been a lot of work, butwhat I will tell you is that the
benefits of that work haveallowed us to create a marriage
and life together that I beyondwhat I ever imagined possible.
(09:18):
Having that passion, vision forour marriage is what helped me
to show up on days when it feltlike things were falling apart
or everything was wrong.
I kept pointing my actionstowards that vision and showed
up again and again in the faceof feeling otherwise.
That's what an entrepreneurdoes in the business and this is
(09:39):
what it takes to be theentrepreneur in your own life.
What if you could put this kindof energy into one area of your
life that needs some attention?
What would be possible in onemonth, six months or a year's
time?
Number five adaptability.
In business, this looks likethe entrepreneur shakes off
(10:03):
inconveniences.
They choose over and over againto go with the flow and take
opportunities as they come.
They don't stay stuck too long.
They tap into their ability tobe adaptable and turn obstacles
into opportunities.
They looked for the gift insideof the challenge and they are
(10:24):
relentless about moving forwardand making adjustments as they
go In life.
Being the entrepreneur of yourlife means embracing what is
happening and leveraging allthat you have to turn obstacles
into opportunities, to learnfrom your mistakes and to keep
heading forward towards thatvision.
(10:48):
I'm reminded of my client, karen, on episode 65, where she
talked about the shift themindset shift she made during
our work together and howchanging her approach when
something is changing in herbusiness, employee leaves and
(11:14):
prior to working together, earlyon in our work together, she
would feel an oh no, like apanic, what's wrong?
And feel like, what have I done?
This is terrible, the businessis going to fall apart.
And she's really turned thatinto applying curiosity and
trust and looking through thelens that when something is
changing, maybe there'ssomething important happening
(11:35):
and shifting around for thegreater good of the business and
all involved.
And as I've watched her do thisagain and again and lean into
this mindset, she now navigatesthese changes in her business
and in her life with far greaterease.
And everyone around her herfamily, her husband, her
(11:58):
employees, her team, hercolleagues all benefit from this
.
And number six eager to learn.
In business, an entrepreneurmakes mistakes and they learn
from those.
They're not afraid to fail.
They know that failure isactually really an important
part of the process to makingthings better and they surround
(12:21):
themselves with people to makethem better and support them and
cover areas where they may notbe as strong.
And in life, being anentrepreneur of your life means
yes, you're going to makemistakes, you're going to fall
down, you're going to learn, you're going to get out of your
comfort zone for the sake ofsomething much greater.
And you know that when you feelstuck or things aren't moving
(12:44):
you, you know to change thedance, you know to try something
different and you take risks todo that and experiment and
refine over time and keep doingwhat works and change what isn't
working and you learn from allof that.
Being the entrepreneur of youreveryday life is a mindset, it's
(13:05):
an approach, it's a way ofliving that takes you from
feeling at the mercy of yourcircumstances, stuck, resigned,
and restores you with power andchoice and influence over the
quality of your everyday life.
It happens in the little, tinymoments where you try on this
(13:27):
lens and remind yourself I'm theentrepreneur of my everyday
life experience.
How might an entrepreneur showup right here and you experiment
, you try something new andyou're willing to be surprised.
So are you the entrepreneur ofyour life?
(13:48):
