SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
A deep change in the
way that we live requires a deep
change in the way that we think.
I'm Carla Reeves, and this isDifferently.
Hey friend, it is the beginningof October if you're listening
live.
The beginning of a brand newquarter and the last quarter of
(00:24):
the year.
And every quarter I want to giveyou something to pause and
reflect on.
Because it's so easy to getswept into the push, the
deadlines, the busy, the to-dolists, the spinning in our
heads.
And if you're anything like meand many of the people that I
work with, life can start tofeel heavy, scattered, and
(00:46):
overwhelming.
And I want this episode to be areset for you, a chance to
untangle your thoughts andrealign with what matters most,
to ensure that the motionsyou're making are leading to the
life you want to be living now.
So at the start of a new quarteris a perfect time for a big
(01:08):
brain dump.
Um when you have time, whenyou're seated and get some pen
and paper or open up a GoogleDoc and empty your mind.
All the things, all the to-dos,all the ruminations, the things
you've been wondering about, thequestions you have, just
anything that's been stirringand spinning in your head.
(01:30):
Get it all out so that you canorganize, discard, and realign
your thinking to your goals forthis quarter.
Ruminations in my mind.
Do you ever catch yourselfcreating problems or things to
do that aren't even necessary?
Or is that just me?
Um, our brain is designed tosolve problems.
(01:52):
And friend, if it doesn't haveanything to solve, it literally
creates problems to solve andit's really good at it.
And it can be really sneaky andfeel really purposeful when it's
actually distracting and takingyou off course.
So pay attention.
This quarter, while in the past,I've been so used to having
(02:13):
goals and targets and numbersthat I wanted to hit, but this
one is different again.
God continues to remind me toset down trying to have it all
figured out and just trust andshow up one day at a time and
just do the next thing and thenthe next thing and the next
(02:33):
thing.
Friend, this is harder than itsounds.
I will stroll along, staying instep for a few days or maybe
even a week or two, and thenboom, all the old ways of
measuring that I've beenaccustomed to come back and
suddenly it makes me feel likeI'm failing, that I'm off track.
(02:54):
Because while a lot of growthand change is happening over
here, it's not in the ways Iused to measure.
I'm holding plans loosely thisquarter.
I spoke at the purpose gatheringlast week.
And if you haven't checked outthe purpose gathering, reach
out.
I'd love to share more about it.
(03:14):
It's a gathering of momentrepreneurs, and sometimes we
do live events.
And these are femaleentrepreneurs who are moms who
are also seeking to live outtheir faith in their business,
in their business life too.
And Ashley Frehand, um, she isthe founder of the Purpose
Gather, and she's been on thepodcast here too, and she um she
(03:37):
talked about holding plansloosely and reminded me about
that.
So I am practicing that, continuing to practice that this
quarter and just staying fluidbecause our world is just feels
unpredictable and how technologyis changing things so fast.
I feel very much like it's atime to hold plans loosely and
(03:59):
stay really fluid in what I'mdoing.
The other thing I'm doing isjust focusing on staying in step
with God because I realize thatif I do that, I have everything
that I need and taking care ofmy energy, staying in a rest and
relaxed posture so that I canserve right where I am when it's
(04:21):
needed, so that I'm availableand present for that, whether
it's with a client inside of mybusiness, inside my free class,
with my grown children, in ourmarriage, or with the gal that's
sitting next to me in Pilates.
So, friend, how about you?
What are you hearing?
Where are you feeling nudged?
(04:42):
What's been stirring inside ofyou?
Maybe you're sensing yourapproach needs to change in this
season.
Maybe it's a change of pace or achange of focus or a change of
posture like me.
And I'm gonna come back to thatin just a minute.
But before we do that, I wantyou to also take a moment to
highlight if you have a pen andpaper, great.
If not, just kind of roll thisaround in your mind.
(05:05):
What are the standout momentsfrom this past quarter, big or
small?
And they might not all be evenpositive standout moments.
There have been some big thingsthat have happened in our life
that should be changing us.
Okay, next question is what'swhat does finishing strong this
(05:26):
year or this quarter look likefor you?
It might not be what you thinkit is.
And I just invite you to listenreally closely.
And then the last question iswhat's one shift that you need
to make in order for this to bereal, in order to finish strong.
(05:47):
Okay, so back to maybe you'resensing your approach needs to
change this season.
I want to give you some thingsto think about and to help you
expand your perspective and juststir your thinking a little bit
on this.
So if it's a change of pace, maybe you just know your pace
needs to change, that it's justit's likely if you're listening
(06:08):
to the podcast, your pace isprobably too fast.
But maybe some, maybe you'relistening and you feel like,
gosh, I need to really pick upmy pace.
So for most of you, it's gonnabe where could slowing down
actually speed things up foryou?
But maybe if you're feeling theother way, maybe your question
(06:29):
is, where could speeding up helpyou push through something
you've been procrastinating?
How could adding speed actuallyhelp you push through something
you've been resisting?
If it's a change of focus thatyou're wanting to bring into
this last quarter, ask yourself, where is my focus?
(06:49):
Is it on what's going right oris it on what's going wrong?
Am I focused on things workingout or things falling apart?
Am I focused on places where Ihave very little or no control?
Or am I focused on the placeswhere I actually have influence?
These are the questions I loveto ask on the regular.
(07:12):
And lastly, if it's a posturechange, here's what I like to
ask.
A posture change is about changeliterally changing your mental
posture to whatever it is thatyou're approaching so that it
can change your energeticposture too, and the actions
that you're actually taking.
(07:34):
So, what I like to ask myselfhere is one, what do I want to
feel in this last quarter?
What feeling do I want togenerate to finish strong?
And if it's it might be peace orit might be ease or it might be
love or it might be joy, whatever that word is, you land
on your word.
And then I'm just gonna give yousome questions that you can ask,
(07:57):
but make these your own.
So one would be like, what wouldpeace do here?
If I want to bring peace tosomething, that's a great
question.
What would peace do here?
If I want more love, I wouldask, how would how would love
lead in this situation or inthis challenge or in this
circumstance?
Or if I want to add more joy tomy life, I always ask, what
(08:21):
would joy do?
And just friend, listen, listenclosely and write down what you
hear.
These can be really powerfulquestions.
So take a deep breath with me.
What came up for you?
And I want to just thank you forspending this time to just pause
to get a little calmer, a littleclearer, and a little more ready
