In this episode, I had a chat with a very good friend of mine, Karan Nijhawan. He is the Founder of Jube.

Karan shares how a disappointing experience at a networking event gave birth to the idea of his business. He talks about the importance of the environment to the growth of each individual. We had a productive brainstorm about some marketing ideas on how to achieve his goals for his business.

In this episode, we discussed:

  1. The founding principle of Jube (Just Be) is that you are the average of the five people you surround yourself with.
  2. How a bad experience at a networking event sparked the idea that eventually became Jube.
  3. The mistake of underestimating the effect of the environment on a person.
  4. Letting people handle things that you don’t want to do but are in their zone of genius.
  5. The principle of who, not how.

As Karan shares the pivot that he is currently applying to his business, shifting from high ticket clients to serving more people at a more affordable price, we discuss the following things to help him achieve that goal:

  1. Profit-sharing in exchange for more hands-on mentoring.
  2. Create an environment such that the community has the "network effect."
  3. Strengthen the community by giving roles to some of the members of the community.
  4. Set of procedures where the community runs itself, and everyone is getting a platform to speak.
  5. Set the vision and let it run, then check the gaps and find ways to improve.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
