Speaker 2 (00:06):

Speaker 1 (00:08):
You traveled.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
It's the traveler, oh
, it's the traveler.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yeah, I'm traveling
Bourbon.
90 proof.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
It's whiskey.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Well, whiskey, yes,
yes I told you it was whiskey.
It is whiskey.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Because who's it from
?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
It's Chris
Stapleton's whiskey.
90 proof.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
I'll say the man
sings about whiskey enough, he
better be serving it.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
The Traveler, chris
Stapleton.
I thought it was a bourbon.
It tastes like a bourbon, butit's a whiskey.
It's got all the notes.
It's amazing, yes, distilled inKentucky, buffalo Trace Okay.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Yeah, you said it was
Knob Creek.
You had it all wrong.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
I had it all wrong.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
He was like it's
Chris Stapleton bourbon from
Knob Creek.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
I said it all wrong.
I was trying to go off the dome, so it's not in the bourbon
Bible, you know, but it shouldbe.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
It's okay.
Well, it's new right.
Yeah, and that.
Bible was produced a coupleyears ago it's the new that
bible was produced.
It's the new thing.
A couple years, oh, it wouldn'tbe in there anyhow.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
It's whiskey, but
it's a good whiskey.
Like dude, I would put that upagainst a lot of bourbons well,
jack daniel's whiskey is in thebourbon bible, so yeah, well,
it's, it's, and there's thefamily, yeah, the family in the
club we all found the club inthe club everybody getting tipsy
, so I did this and then, uh did, did some, and then I did some
(01:26):
with some Dr Pepper.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
But did you dim some?
Speaker 2 (01:31):
I dimmed and did it.
What are you drinking overthere?
Tell me about your new goofing.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
So Saturday night
when we went out on the town,
y'all we went and saw DividedTruth, tragic, divided Tyrant.
Divide, oh divided truth, yeah, tragic, yeah, divided divide,
yeah divide, oh my god, defy thetyrant, defy the other band,
because they were fucking greatthe first band yeah order of
chaos let's not get it wrong ahthere was a fourth band.
(01:59):
They opened.
They were first and they weregreat.
And we're so sorry that wedon't remember your name, but
we'll, we'll, it'll come to us.
But anyways, we were first andthey were great.
And we're so sorry that wedon't remember your name, but
we'll, we'll, it'll come to us.
But anyways, we were there andthey.
It's not a liquor bar, theyjust have beer and seltzers.
Yeah, and they had green applewhite claws and you and I love
them.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Drink them all night,
going ham on them, dude, they
were so damn good.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Drink them all night.
And I was at Aldi doing somelittle grocery shopping and I
saw that they had a Vista Baygreen apple and it is delicious.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
So that's what I'm
having today and you know you
like your Vista Bay.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yes, so I've got me a
Vista Bay.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
It's good.
Don't sleep on it.
Don't sleep on Traveler either.
Whiskey, not bourbon.
Yes, because they don't have abourbon yet, and bourbon yes,
because they don't have abourbon yet.
And I was imagining that it wassomething more than what it is,
but it's actually a lot becauseit is what it is.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Right.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Thank you, Chris
Stapleton.
And yeah, Kentucky liquor isgood.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yes, but we finna dip
out of here.
Tomorrow we're going to StAugustine.
Yes, it's anniversary weekend13 years together, one year
married.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I'm excited excited.
Lindsay, it's been a great yeartoo.
I think, this is like one ofour best years we've had
Absolutely Really good.
Thank you for being with me.
You're so fucking awesome,lindsay, you're so fucking
awesome.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
The only complaint I
have is we did not do enough
water shit Last summer.
I think it was just because wehad been going, so ham.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Busy?
No, we were not busy, we justwanted to stay at home and cook
last summer.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
I think it was just
because we had been going so ham
Busy Busy that no, we were notbusy, we just wanted to stay at
home and cook.
We were in our cooking andcanning era.
We kind of got out of that fora minute.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Well, I mean, we were
busy.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
True, that is true,
true, true, true, true, true.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
True, true, true,
true, true, true, true, true,
true, true.
So tell me what we're drinkingabout Just a little bit, but
then I want to get back intothat badass show at Jackrabbits.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Okay, so today we are
drinking about Gabby Petito.
This is a more recent case, soI do want to let y'all know.
A few episodes back we had arecap and I said we were going
to do some couples murders, butthere are three heavy hitters
(04:07):
that are in Hot Topic right nowthat I'm going to go ahead and
cover first, and then we will gooverseas.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Yeah, because.
I do remember I was fixing tosay I think you were saying we
were going to go overseas and Ihad this really cool band that I
was wanting to play fromoverseas.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Well, we'll save them
.
So yeah, I had to save them.
Yeah, save.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Well, we'll save them
.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
So, yeah, I gotta
save them.
Yeah, save them for threeepisodes.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Okay yeah, three more
episodes.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Well, this one and
two more.
I want to get those out of theway, and so they're in Hot Topic
right now.
So I want to go ahead and coverthem, just because it may show
up in your timeline, and you'regoing to be like what the fuck?
And I'm going to be like whatthe fuck?
And I'm going to be like, ohwait, but I'm so I'm going to go
ahead and cover them, that wayyou don't accidentally learn all
(04:47):
about them.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Okay, Because, if you
are, I'm just here to ride the
wave barrel.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Because, if you are
new here, what we do is we talk
about a true crime case andJesse knows nothing about it.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
This is episode 21.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yes, where we are
officially at the drinking age.
Yeah With our episode.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Cheers, lindsay.
Holy shit, we can drink now.
We got 21 in.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
We cover a true crime
episode that Jesse knows
nothing about, so all hisreactions are completely organic
.
My goal is to break him almostevery time.
Last week's was a littledifferent and week's was a
little different.
And then we plug a band thatwe're digging and that we think
that you should listen to aswell.
Listen to follow.
Give them the recognition thatthey deserve for putting in hard
work, putting their art outinto the world.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
I have a gothic punk
rock band I want to play, and I
think they're from like SouthFlorida as well.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
And we'll talk about
that later on.
But I want to play, and I thinkthey're from South Florida as
well.
Okay, and we'll talk about thatlater on.
But I want to talk aboutJackrabbit's Lindsay.
Two of my bromance bros werethere.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yes, it was a great
night.
It was a great night, it was afun night.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
And I love Jerry
Divided Truth and Josh from
Tragic.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Any time that we go
to a show, we just have a great
time.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
It's a family reunion
, it is it is a family reunion
For sure, though, but me andKurt get together, and then you
throw in old Richard Burke in,that bastard too Dude romance
time you could see thepheromones Kurt from Defy the
Tyrant and Richard Dick Burkefrom Fighting Giants, and also
he is playing with Defy theTyrant right now, yeah, he
(06:22):
played like four songs and hehad his son up there I was like
Silas that could be you, bro.
That could be you, bro.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Learn your licks, bro
, learn your licks.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
It was so awesome.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
And I got to sing on
the mic a little bit.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
I don't know how it
sounded.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
We were like
teenagers Got in so late and
then my ass had On Sunday and itwas rough.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
But you know what I
didn't ass out Sunday?
I knocked out some shit.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
You did I did, and I
knocked out some shit.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Oh, you went and
worked a doublet, doublet yes.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
And I had to go in an
hour earlier than normal too.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
We were mic checking
to an old song.
Is that Beatles?
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Me and you.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
So happy to get, and
you and me, no matter how we
toss the dice, it's got to be.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
So we had a.
I meant to tell you we got anew follower and she was like I
just listened to the firstepisode and I love your singing
voice.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
I'm like girl, thanks
, yeah, please don't love our
singing voices.
We're not that great I just bebullshitting.
Sometimes you do surprise mebaby.
Yeah, you got got I can sing, Idid you know you can.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
You just need the
right motivational but I smoked
for years and that killed myoctaves a little bit, or it
would make it to where, if Iwould sing one song, really good
, that was it, that was all Ihad.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
So we don't smoke
anymore, so my vocals have
returned to their normal stateit's my favorite thing to see
lindsey over there justgoof-booting and singing and she
does that whole cheesy grinthing where she's looking around
and I love it.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Who sings Happy
Together, the.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Turtles the Turtles
Turtle Club.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Turtle, turtle In
1967.
Oh.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
I love that song.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Why didn't I know
that was the turtles?
But who knew that was the?
Speaker 1 (08:07):
turtles are.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I do know I wasn't
turtley enough.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
They weren't turtley
enough for the turtle club.
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Well, we're going to
let you fly.
I got to reminisce about allthe the band stuff, all the cool
stuff.
Defy the tyrant.
I got to hang out and hadbromances.
All the bands were amazing.
It was just really cool.
So, happy Friday everybody.
I'm so excited.
Woo, here we go.
Hey, Lindsay, it's ouranniversary weekend.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
We're going to have a
blast.
I'm very excited, yay.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
You move a lot more
to this song now than you used
to.
I think it's part of your DNAnow.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
What made you feel
old this week?
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Me Old this week.
I gotta think about this oneHang on.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Well, I can go ahead
with mine then, you go first.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Let me think about it
, let me drink about it, let me,
yes, let me.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
So I work in a
restaurant and most of the staff
that I work with are half myage, so I am the only one that
knows every single classic rocksong that comes on corporate
radio, and nobody, except forwhen Landon works, because
that's my son yeah, he workswith me also and I've taught him
(09:42):
well and he knows most of themas well.
So that's what makes me feelold sometimes, or this week
particularly.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
I just looked around
and I'm like nobody else knows
what the fuck I'm singing havingto take supplements to get by
makes me feel old oh yeah, I'vegot a plethora of them I keep
noticing that'm just I'm likehaving to take something just to
feel like energy or coffee, andyou know it's like I gotta have
something to get me going andget me and keep me going.
(10:11):
And then you're like you got tobalance out your supplements
with your crash, because if youdo, if you're like coffee,
geeking, and then all of asudden you're done.
So I guess that makes me feelold.
How's that?
Is that good?
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yeah, I mean I have
to start the day.
I start the day with two scoopsof pre-workout because it takes
about 30 minutes to kick in.
So I get up, make the bed, brush my teeth, get on my
workout clothes, drink thepre-workout and then piddle
around the house, do something, put away dishes or whatever and
(10:43):
then work out.
But yeah, that's my get goingin the morning because it's
rough before I drink that.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Like it's like, but
you're the most going person
I've ever seen in my life, though you are.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
I do have a lot of
natural energy, but it's I mean,
you know it's still rough inthe morning.
I'm not a morning person, Icannot compete.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Maybe it's just I so
damn tired, though, like 55
hours, 60 hours a week.
I should wear on you too, though Like four or five hours
of sleep at night because we'retrying to watch some more House
of the Dragons.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
It was like I want to
watch one more episode.
Everybody will ask me why Idon't do management.
Because I've been with therestaurant that I work for for
19 years and now, when I was asingle mom, I did do the
internship and consider it, butfor just a little bit more money
.
I would have to work 20 morehours a week than I already do.
(11:38):
No, I wouldn't be able to takeoff on the times that we want to
, because I would have to fightother managers to get those same
time spots and you're locked in.
You're locked down.
You've got a lot morerestrictions.
I can clock out and go home andI make my money.
I have my regulars, that I mean.
I have a regular who has hadseveral strokes and he doesn't
(12:02):
even know what to order unlessI'm there.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
But that's how
professional you are toward
keeping your business.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
I'm doing just fine.
Doing what I'm doing, management is not an upgrade.
Just so everybody in the worldknows that, or all of our
listeners.
Management is not always anupgrade.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
No, Well, how many
bosses do you have there, right?
Speaker 1 (12:23):
now Five.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Imagine how many
you'd have if you was a manager.
Right, it'd be like the lowestmanager.
So all the managers are allabove you and they're all, it's
more work for not a lot more payyeah, yeah, a lot more
responsibility yeah, it doesn't.
It doesn't equal I'm good itdoesn't add up, right, it's not
cool, not cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, right?
Speaker 1 (12:43):
so yeah, I'm, I'm
good, I'm at and I don't add up,
right, it's not cool, not cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool,
cool, right.
So yeah, I'm, I'm good, I'm atand I don't have to work 55
hours a week.
And if I was a manager I would.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yeah, I'm like a sub
kind of management almost, I
mean because I've been therelonger than most managers.
I get sarcastic when people dothat, though I'm just like oh so
you want me to tell you how todo your job?
Okay.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
And just a little
current event.
Our friend messaged us thatthere was another possible
serial killer in Florida, andthen I also seen it in Hot Topic
on my news feed on.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Facebook.
I didn't see that with.
Besides her, my sister postedthat too.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
I did Google it.
I did some research and mostare saying that it's a hoax, but
I don't know.
It could be hidden from themedia right now until they find
out more information, which is agood idea, because then when
media gets involved, sometimesthings get-.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Watered down or
messed up.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Or messed up.
Yeah, All kinds of shit can getmessed up.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
And then you're
starting to let everybody know
that this is a thing, and thenthings can get covered up or
mixed up or false information.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Yes, false
information is the worst.
Okay, so this case has actuallybeen requested by a few because
it's recent and really sad anda new documentary on it just
came out recently, but there isa couple out there.
I moved this one up on thecalendar for our listeners
because, well, we're here foryou and Jesse knows nothing, of
(14:17):
course.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
No, I didn't hear
anything about this one.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
I watched this one
happen in real time.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Really All of it
unfold.
Is this going to be one ofthose?
Oh, Lindsay, is this going tobe one of those.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
A tough one.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Yeah, strap in.
I mean, you see, I got fourpages.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
You got 19 pages.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Front and back.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
I haven't read that
much in my life.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
This is typed.
Holy shit, wait a minute.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
You got a whole page
full of side notes too.
Y'all strap in.
Here we go, lindsay All right.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
So Gabrielle Gabby
Venora Petito was born March
19th 1999 in Blue Point, newYork, to Joseph, who goes by Joe
, and Nicole Petito.
Joe and Nicole were only 20when Gabby was born and divorced
soon after and both remarriedand both families got along
(15:08):
great Like this is the ultimateblended family here.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Yes, so Nicole
married a man named Jim Schmidt
and Joe married a woman namedTara, who, of course, took on
Petito.
In this blended family, gabbywould have six younger siblings.
Gabby would do baton twirlingand run track and later on in
her teenage years would become asocial media influencer, mostly
(15:36):
on Instagram, and she wasreally good at it.
She was also an artist, and herart.
When I tell you that it isexquisite, I'm not exaggerating.
I'll put some in our Instagramstories and I would really like
for you to watch the documentarywith me later if you're up for
it.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah, sure, okay,
sure.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
She was like I said,
she was very artistic and her
pictures are a testament to that.
In 2017, gabby graduated fromBay Point High in Blue Point and
she became friends with a youngman named Brian Laundrie.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
So we're moving up
now to the most recent thing
that we've ever done.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
This is the most
recent thing that we've ever,
the closest to now, real timeWow.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
I watched like I said
.
I watched this unfold, Wow, Inreal time.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Yeah, wow.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Like I said, I
watched this unfold, wow, in
real time.
Yeah, so Brian seemed niceenough, quiet, shy and kind of
socially awkward.
After high school she lived inCarolina Beach, north Carolina,
where she was going to go tocommunity college, but ended up
working as a hostess and kitchenhelper at a restaurant.
Now, this part is not in thedocumentary but I've seen seen
(16:44):
it in other sources so I wantedto put it in the story.
So her and brian were justfriends for, like, I want to say
, about a year or two, and theywent on a cross-country trip to
california as friends andreturned as a couple in a
relationship oh, they fell yesnow that happens now this would
be an on again, off againrelationship and her friends
(17:06):
felt that Brian was a littlecontrolling and tried to isolate
her.
Both had decided against goingto college.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Dude finally got out
of the friend zone.
That was it.
You think yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Well, in the
documentary there's another
friend who was friends with bothof them and they had like a
group.
You know right, and like we all, you know, we all, especially
at that age, we have our groupsthat we hang out with where it's
like five to ten people.
She was friends with both ofthem.
She says that she wasn't intohim like that.
And then the next thing sheknew after she, you know, told
(17:41):
him that she's like I see you asas a brother.
She was like shortly after thathe was in love with Gabby.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
So yeah, but he was
stuck in the friend zone forever
, and then finally, it finallytransposed.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Well, what was weird
was Gabby didn't really tell her
family right away either.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
No, she still wanted
her good buddy.
She didn't really tell herfamily right away either no, she
still wanted her good buddy,right.
But she knew that she hadprobably overstepped her
feelings or whatever, and itbecame a thing for a minute.
And then she was like wait aminute, I kind of want this to
not be a thing.
I get that for women.
Okay.
So he had probably been waitingin the back burner, though,
holding on to that and then hefinally got it.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
I'm not really sure
because from what they told
their friends it was kind of alove at first sight thing.
But, like I said, I don't know.
It's very strange the timelinebecause in the videos, because a
lot of her life is on video, because she was an influencer
she was already out, and that isyeah, that is on.
The documentary is so's so muchfootage.
It's insane.
They seemed very lovey-dovey,but she wasn't expressive about
him towards her family.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
It seems like what
you're talking about right here
is going to be a thing, though.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Yes, so I'm going to
let you fly.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
I'm going to shut the
hell up.
Right and I'm going to let youfly because, dude, like I'm
already seeing things and Idon't even know things.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Right, okay, you're
drinking, you know nothing, yeah
.
So both decided against goingto college and in the peak of
the covid19 pandemic, can youbelieve it's been five years
this month doesn't it seem likefive weeks ago?
It was our anniversary weekend.
Remember we were going touniversal and everything was
shutting down that sunday and Icouldn't taste the fucking
butter beer.
Oh we had it, y'all that wasdepressing.
(19:32):
Yes, gosh so brian's parentsdecided to move to north point
in sarasota county that downhere in florida, because we
didn't shut down for long y'all.
I mean, we just didn't.
My place of work we shut downto only to goes, where nobody
was working but managers.
For a week jesse never stoppedworking at all no, never and
(19:54):
went home early like twice.
That was it and then theybrought like five or five I want
to say five to ten of us backto do those to-go shifts, but we
all filed for unemploymentimmediately.
That was a scary time.
I've never been without work inmy whole life and I didn't know
what to do with myself.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
But anyway, we're
probably like everybody else,
we're check to check.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Yeah, and then, well,
after six weeks I opened back
up and was back to full time.
So that's probably what sentthem down here, because New York
was shut down for a long timeLong.
Probably what sent them downhere because New York was shut
down for a long time Long time.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Yeah, I couldn't
imagine it.
I mean, we would have just beenin debt, but they said that you
don't even have to worry aboutpaying bills or anything like
that for a while.
Remember.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Yeah, but we would
have just been in debt.
Our mortgage company wasn't onboard with that.
It would have just went to theback right.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
It would have just
went it would have just went, it
would have been overdrafts.
Yeah, yeah, god.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Like I said, brian's
parents decided to move down
here to Florida, Sarasota County, north Point, and Gabby and
Brian went with them.
His parents were Christopherand Roberta Laundrie, so now all
Gabby has is Brian and hisparents, and she is very far
away from her family and friendsthat she grew up with.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Right, 20 hours away,
24 from where they're at.
Yeah, wow.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
So they would both
get jobs at Publix.
Gabby worked in the pharmacyshe was pharmacy tech and Brian
worked in the grocery department.
Now Brian would quit workingand focused on his art trying to
sell it, and Gabby startedworking two jobs.
Her other job was Taco Bell.
She loved that.
She was so cute about herlittle job at Taco Bell.
(21:32):
She loved telling people tohave a taco-tastic day.
Taco-tastic day.
Yeah, I worked at Taco Bell.
That was my first on the booksjob and I loved it so much.
I loved my job at Taco Bell.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
It was just simple
and it was book's job and I
loved it so much.
I loved my job at Taco Bell.
You know how it was.
Just simple, like it.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Okay, and it was a
good time.
I have my all my friends workthere.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
You know how, when
you go to Dairy Queen and they
hold your your uh, your frostyupside down before you get it,
you know blizzard right.
So Dairy Queen, taco Bell, needs to do that shit somehow.
They need to come up with somecool little thing.
I don't know.
You know what they need.
They need a nacho hat, one ofthose sombreros made out of
nacho man.
(22:09):
That's what they need.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
They were both
artists.
Like I said, gabby was amazing, but their styles were very
different, where Gabby'spictures were bright and
colorful and Brian's was more onthe dark side, and there's
nothing wrong with that, butsometimes dark art can be a cry
for help.
I can see that, and if you guyshaven't watched a documentary,
(22:33):
watch it, because there it showsall of his lyrics can be the
same too.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Right rip chester
bennington and chris cornell and
chris cor God.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
They were working on
saving money for another trip to
visit all kinds of state parksand live the van life.
And this is a whole world.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
That was a hot thing.
That happened right after COVID, because people were just like
I still want to get around.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
We can do this and
still get around and go camping
Because you can be outdoors.
They encouraged you to, I wouldspend a year.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Listen, I would do
that in a heartbeat.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
You could be outdoors
they encouraged you to.
I would spend a year, listen, Iwould do that in a heartbeat.
Bet yeah, it's happening.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
We could do pods on
the road girl that would be so
fun, yeah, so there seemed to besome kind of tension between
Roberta, which is Brian's mom,and Gabby.
At times Brian would just tellher hey, sometimes she's just
like that, it'll blow over.
She needed attention.
Roberta needed a lot ofattention from everybody.
(23:28):
Like there was a whole thingabout her everybody not being
like super ecstatic over her pie, you know one night and
whatever.
Now I cook and yes, it is niceto get the praise, but I'm not
like, I'm not gonna piss at you.
You know what I mean.
I need your attention.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
I need it right now.
I need it.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
I need it right now,
that Beartooth song.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
It was show up
wanting some attention.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
I don't know, I don't
want to read too much into that
because it could be acompletely different message.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Yeah, I get it.
I get it, but it just seemedlike that.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
We're talking about a
song from Beartooth Lead singer
, caleb Shomo.
He has gone on a Completehealth journey, self healing.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
He's done a lot of
good stuff.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
He moved from Ohio to
California To get rid of his
seasonal depression, and I'mhappy for him.
I don't dig the new music asmuch.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
No, I miss the first
three albums, but I don't want
to discourage anybody from aself-healing journey at all.
No, no, no, I get it.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
But anyway.
So Gabby was uncomfortable tosay the least, and she was on an
app called Bumble just to meetfriends because she was probably
lonely and now feeling awkwardin her boyfriend's parents'
house.
So her and a young woman namedRose Davis started hanging out.
They would make TikTokstogether and just became really
(24:57):
close friends and, like, rosewas the Domino's delivery driver
and Gabby would just go alongwith her on her delivery route,
that's cool yeah.
They were, and there's video ofthat's so cute, definitely
adventurous yeah and Rose saysthat when Brian would be around
on their outings he would bevery standoffish and he acted
(25:18):
more like a chaperone, but hewould be really nice.
But she just said that therewas something off about him he
wasn't part of the thing, but hewas yeah, yeah and there's
another thing, too, that theywere all pretty much the same
age, but Brian started likelosing his hair really young,
like he has a.
His receding hairline wasstarted at like early twenties,
(25:39):
so he looked 10 years older thaneverybody in his age.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
So he'd be hanging
out and be like older than
everybody in his age bracket.
So he'd be hanging out and belike, yeah, this is my dad.
He literally.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
yes, he looks a lot
older than her, but I think it
was only like a year or two.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
This is my cool uncle
, he can buy alcohol, yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
So Rose says that
they were supposed to go line
dancing one night and Brian hidGabby's ID, making the evening
kind of a flop.
And Brian was the kind of guyto do shitty things, like make
you feel bad about yourself, andthen turn around and do amazing
things and try to make up forit.
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (26:13):
like narcissistic
controlling the whole thing.
Yes and I don't even likesaying those words, and I can
see it but, it's coming it'syeah l Lindsay is coming.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
So in July 2020,
gabby and Brian went on a little
camping trip and then Gabby, when they came back, announced
that they were engaged.
Now she didn't call her mom andsay this.
Her mom saw it on a post.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
She felt like she was
cornered into it.
Huh.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
I'm not.
Well, let's see.
But there was no ring.
But when he got down on oneknee a firefly landed on her
ring finger.
So to them it was fate in thestars, all that good stuff, you
know.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
It just doesn't seem
organic enough, Like it's forced
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
And when you watch
the footage it doesn't seem
organic either.
It's weird.
Now, like I said, if I hadwatched that not knowing the
outcome, I don't know, but I was, you know, I don't know, I
don't know how it would havefelt, it just yeah, it seems
really weird.
There wasn't a date set andthey still planned and saved for
(27:25):
their big van life trip.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
That's exciting.
I mean I would have enjoyedthat, just getting out and doing
it.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Yeah, they were going
to go all over the country.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
Yeah, the United
States has so much to offer.
In a van I would have been onthat fucking road, but it seems
shady to me.
I'm kind of scared right now.
Lindsay, it's going to be atrip.
I mean we're here.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
For a reason, this is
a true crime podcast.
The van was now purchased A2012 Ford Transit Connect and
they turned it into a tinylittle camper and downsized all
their belongings Road trip.
Before the trip, though, Brianstarted getting a little more
possessive.
He didn't like her hanging outwith her coworkers and even went
(28:10):
so far as to reach out to hermother telling her that they
were bad people.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Bro, bro, you're
fucking up.
A good thing, bro.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Brian would tell
Gabby he was sorry for this and
then made it somehow to whereshe was, apologizing to him for
making him sad.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
I'm sorry you made me
get on to you.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Yeah, oh my God, real
quick.
That's a reference from VicePrincipals Danny McBride, walter
Goggins.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Gotta watch it.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
And the chick that
plays Judy in Righteous Jim's
film.
Yes, Watch both those shows HBOMax.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
It's so damn good yes
.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Oh man.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
It's ridiculous
comedy.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
If you like
ridiculous comedy, watch both of
those shows Go, lindsay, yougot so much to do.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
I'm going to have to
take a drink right out of this
fucking traveler bottle, isn't I?
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Isn't I?
We got a while.
Okay, she would tell Rose thatit was her fault and she was a
bad person and all the fightswere her fault.
So now we're up to June 2021.
Time to start the van life.
They go up to New York to visither parents.
Before they get started, ofcourse, you know she's got to
(29:19):
tell them bye.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
She hadn't seen them
in a while.
It's a good way to check outthe van and how it goes it was
so cute, she made it so cute inthere.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
That was all her.
He was filthy, she was not Okay.
So her mom gave her $200 forgas in emergencies and whatnot,
and Gabby gave her the biggesthug, just that hug that you
crave from your older kids thatdon't live with you anymore and
they only come around every oncein a while, but I mean her
(29:50):
daughter's been in florida andshe's in new york.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Yeah, you know, 200
bucks in 2021 well, they already
have money her mom was justgiving her.
I was gonna say that's enoughto get up there.
What are they doing after theyalready had money?
Speaker 1 (30:02):
okay yeah, okay, and
and gabby's plan was to make
this a career.
She was going to vlog about thevan life Right.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
She already had all
the followers and she was raking
in money.
To begin with they had theirsolar panels.
Right.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Power charging
station.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
It was ready, dude,
that is so awesome.
Why are you fucking this up,bro?
Speaker 1 (30:21):
So, like I said, she
was going to turn this into a
career and her dad was going tohelp her with the website as
well.
So she says goodbye to all theparents, siblings, so they're
off on their journey.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Right, he's at home
base making sure everything's
working out logistically andshe's doing her thing, right,
cool.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Now pay attention to
my timeline, okay.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
You know I'm going to
forget it because I'm already
getting buzzed, I'm alreadygetting buzzed Okay.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
On July 4th they were
at Monument Rocks in Kansas.
July 8th they were in ColoradoSprings.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
They did like the hot
springs and all that good stuff
.
I know some people that liveout there.
We need to go.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
So July 10th they
were at the Great Sand Dune
making and editing videos allalong the way, which is a lot of
work behind the scenes.
She had like a drone camera andthere's footage of her like
testing it out.
She was, she didn't know whatit and it was.
I mean, she just was naturallygood at this.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
That's awesome though
.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Now, brian wasn't as
clean as she liked and there
were arguments, and even in theunedited versions of the video
you can clearly see hisannoyance.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Now wait a minute.
Now wait a minute.
Is that the video one of themthat was on YouTube where she
was like they were travelingaround in the van and she's like
I'm stopping right here so Ican take a shower and she's like
he's not going to?
I think I've seen some of thison YouTube, lindsay.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
And she had her
annoyances as well.
Now Gabby would keep up withher family and with Rose through
daily texts and about once aweek give them a FaceTime call.
Rose said she would feel Gabbydistancing herself from her
after a while but had no ideawhy.
But also Rose does say she wasunderstanding because she knows
in some spots in places theywere going, there wasn't cell
(32:08):
phone service right okay, soaugust 12th they have been on
the road for 41 days and they'rein moab, utah.
Okay, on this day there was a9-1-1 call from a man grand
county sheriff's office were youable to get a description of
the entire case.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Hi, can you hear me
sir?
Yeah, I can hear you.
Hi, I'm calling.
I'm right on the corner of MainStreet by Moonflower and we're
driving by and I'd like toreport a domestic dispute.
Florida with a white vanFlorida license plate.
White land, gentlemen.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Where's it?
Speaker 3 (32:42):
at Five, six beard.
They just drove off.
They're going down Main Street.
They made a right onto MainStreet from Moonflower.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
What were they doing?
Speaker 3 (32:54):
What did you say?
What were they doing?
We drove by and the gentlemanwas slapping the girl.
What he was slapping?
Speaker 2 (33:01):
her.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Yes, and then we
stopped.
They ran up and down thesidewalk.
He proceeded to hit her, hoppedin the car and they drove off.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Okay, you said it's a
white van.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Oh, my gosh White van
.
I can give you the licenseplate.
Just give me one sec I took anintro of it.
What kind of white van.
Like a big one.
It was a smaller van with thelicense plate of it was white,
(33:33):
florida license plate it was.
The make was a ford.
Model was transit.
Black ladder on the passengerside black ladder passenger side
white for transit.
White for transit.
Okay, what's your name?
Speaker 2 (33:48):
wow, oh my goodness,
lindsey I'm crying um my.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
My marriage before
jesse was abusive and this
triggered this whole case.
I've cried all week.
Oh my God, lindsay, you're notallowed to.
Okay.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Oh, my goodness
Lindsay.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
So police caught up
with them and they pull them
over, get them out of the car.
And Gabby was sobbing, but shewas.
And Gabby was sobbing, but shewas blaming herself for being
stressed out about the website, mad that Brian wasn't keeping
things clean, and Brian hadactually locked her out of the
(34:41):
car before this man saw theiraltercation.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
She was way the fuck
away from home, just locked in
with this dude.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
She was 22, and she
was maybe 120 pounds.
Yeah, just a tiny little girl.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Now, brian, he's over
here.
You know they've got himseparated.
They're talking to himindividually.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
You're going to make
me get into this fucking bottle
right here.
I swear to God.
Speaker 1 (34:59):
Brian said that she
got worked up and started
swinging and that her phone wasin her hand, and he was
basically saying that he wasdefending himself.
Now, brian did have scratchesagainst 120 pound little now, he
was small too, but he was stillat least 50 pounds heavier than
(35:19):
her.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
You come at me I'm
just gonna lock, I'll just hold
your hands for a second and I'mgoing to be like calm down, but
I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Okay, I've seen the
pictures.
Hers were terrible and hislooked like defense wounds.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Right, her just
trying to fight away from the
bullshit.
Dude, I knew you were fuckinggoing to do this.
You bastard, you bastard.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
I told you this one
was sad before we even sat down
to start recording.
But, like I said, gabby's facewas full, full-on red and
bruised like, and there waspictures that she took of
herself after this that she justkept in her phone.
But I'm gonna hold on to that.
But brian was like bro dude, knit up with these cops, okay.
(36:05):
And he, she's sobbing, he'slaughing.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
I'm disgusting.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Yeah, and it made
Gabby out to be this irrational
woman and they just made her outto be the main aggressor.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Ah okay, he's twisted
it all around trying to be
controlling again, here we godude.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Now the police told
them that they did need to
separate.
For the night they got Brian ahotel room, and this was a hotel
that was specifically fortaking battered women there, or
battered spouses.
So he's in the hen house, he'sin the victim, and he's the damn
wolf.
And all they did with her istell her where she could go get
a nice shower.
And this cop is like, yeah, mywife has anxiety, okay.
(36:52):
So she tells them she's thefucking victim.
She tells them that she's gotanxiety and she has bad OCD.
And I just I'm on a platformand I want to just say because I
suffer from anxiety and OCD andthis OCD is not just a person
that wants things clean so I'mgoing to just put a go a little
(37:15):
bit into what OCD is Soapboxtime with Lindsay, here we go.
So OCD is persistent andintrusive unwanted thoughts,
images or urges that causesignificant distress.
The compulsive parts arerepetitive behaviors or mental
acts that the person feelsdriven to perform in response to
(37:35):
the obsessions, according torigid rules to reduce the stress
caused by the obsession.
So she's got a goal, okay, she's on this van life.
She wants to make money doingit.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
And she's
disassociating all the harm and
bullshit that he's putting onher.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
All the love me need
me pants and jeans.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
Every red fucking
flag in the whole fucking
country.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
And so I think that
this is my humble opinion, but
just from the research that I'vedone and the video footage that
I've watched, humble opinion, but just from the research that
I've done and the video footagethat I've watched, she was
probably spending a lot of thedowntime on her phone, on her
computer, trying to organizethis to have an income for them
to keep this trip going.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Yeah, between the
spots, that's her job and he
didn't like it.
She has to work too.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Like even one of the
friends said that Brian thought
all of it was stupid, but whenhe was in the front of the
camera he was all sweet and cute.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
Oh for the public,
yeah for sure, yeah, look at me,
I'm the greatest guy ever.
God dude, come on, I've lost myplace.
He's got me wanting to get.
I'm going to get into thistraveler over here.
I don't want to travel with him, though Not with him.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Like I said, brian's
got a hotel room.
She's in the van all alone byherself in a place far away from
home.
Now Gabby calls her mom andlets her know kind of what's
going on and tells her mom andher mom of course was not cool
with this and was not cool withher being alone and Brian was
giving her.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
No, that would have
been it.
What the fuck.
I'm gone.
I wouldn't even.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
I would have went
straight on to now some people
think that the cops were justlike okay, we're taking him away
, we're giving you anopportunity to leave yeah some
people take it like that.
I I'm sorry, I would have puther in the hotel room and it's
hard for me to put myself inlike that situation as being a
man.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
But if a chick was
treating me like that in the
middle of all that, she wouldn'thave seen me again.
I would have been on my wayback home right then that night.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Her mom, Nicole, begs
her to come home and Gabby
assured her everything's goingto be fine.
They actually made up thatnight, but soon after Gabby
calls her mom saying that Brianwas flying home to empty out a
storage unit and that she wouldbe staying in a hotel in Utah
until after he returned and shewould be working on her website
(39:53):
and making some YouTube videosof the trip that they had
recorded so far.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
She's so focused on
just doing.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
She's got goals, got
her head down.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Just going to drive
on through, no matter what
happens.
I'm going to make this happen.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Sometimes you got to
take a break, you got to step
back and the footage isbreathtaking.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
We have a beautiful
country.
Yeah, oh, yeah I mean, ourcountry is just insane.
So on August 22nd Gabby textsher ex-boyfriend Now Brian's
down in Florida and she textsher ex-boyfriend Jackson, and
she's like you know, I'mprobably the last person you
want to hear from, but she kindof lets him know what's been
(40:35):
going on and he thinks thatGabby is trying to find a way
out, but isn't sure how to goabout it and is maybe afraid to
do it.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
So she's big and
popular, but she's kept her
circle kind of small and that'sjust being a good person.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
She only reaches out
to Rose and her family, maybe
one or two other people.
And then she reaches out toJackson out of nowhere after
this altercation and to take aride delivering pizzas, which
that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
I want to do that one
day.
I don't want to ride with apolice car, I want to ride with
a pizza delivery guy.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
Well, before I
started getting unemployment
during the pandemic, I hadsigned up to do DoorDash and I
was going to load y'all up withme.
I wasn't going to do it bymyself, you know, but
fortunately I did get to go backto work and do some to-go
shifts and people were beinggenerous at that time to to-go
workers because it was the onlyway they could get food.
Yeah, we made it work and thenunemployment started coming in,
(41:33):
and that was a big help, Anyway.
So Jackson said that they hadbeen together about a year
before her and Brian gottogether and they had also
planned on doing this tripbefore their breakup.
So all of this was Gabby's goal.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
That was her goal.
She wanted to travel around, use this as content and
experience the country.
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
Now he says that they
talked on the phone after the
initial text and just caught upand she was letting him know
that Brian was supposed toreturn to Utah the next day.
That's her by the way.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
Oh wow, Look at her
Just traveling around.
It's like I'm trying to wrap myhead around all this and this
is going to be a tough one andyou're fixing to drop a bomb on
me right now Look at yeah, that's them.
I've seen them on YouTubebefore, Lindsay.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Okay, so she tells
Jackson that she did plan to
leave Brian.
Okay, so she tells Jackson thatshe did plan to leave Brian and
she just had to figure out howand when.
He told her that she could callhim anytime, and just to please
be careful.
All right.
August 27th she snapchattedJackson, saying that she was in
(42:40):
a place that reminded her of him, which was called, like, the
Jackson Hole I guess it was likea canyon of some sort.
It's on the documentary, we'llsee it and she called him again
that day.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
But it's known that
they were still friends.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
After the
relationship, right?
So of course she's just likehey, you know boom.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
It was a little cry
for help too.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
Yeah, yeah, I get
that too, she was comfortable
with reaching out to him.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
She knew that he
would be there for her.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
Little security
blanket right there.
Yeah, she's probably realizingthat damn, I kind of fucked up
by not staying with him.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
Or she is scared in
this current situation and she's
reaching out to somebody thatshe felt safe talking to Right.
Speaker 2 (43:21):
Well, my thought
would be like she's also
thinking what would this trip belike if I would have just took
him and done that?
Speaker 1 (43:27):
That could be it too.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
So, like I said, she
called him again that day but he
was at work and couldn't talk.
Remember August 27th, Okay, soGabby and Brian go to a
restaurant that day and you geton the documentary.
You get like on screen textsfrom where they were texting
each other while they were inthe restaurant and she was
(43:51):
texting him from the restaurantbathroom and said that she
wasn't feeling well and to takecare of the check and this, that
and the other.
And then there is CCTV footageof them going in and out of a
Whole Foods market and theyseemed fine, just getting some
snacks or whatever.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
Because they did cook
in their little van as well.
I mean, they had a little minifridge.
Speaker 1 (44:11):
I remember seeing a
spot, a little thing on.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
YouTube about this.
I swear I'm sure you did.
Like I said, it's a hot topic.
It was a big thing, yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:15):
Nicole texts Gabby
that day to make sure she's okay
.
This is mom.
Nicole was mom and Gabby said, yes, everything is fine, and she
had convinced Brian to camp inthe woods that night so that she
could have the van to herself, saying that he wanted to do that
anyway.
You know, I don't care.
And then she tells Nicole Briansays I can have the van if I
(44:37):
pay him because they went in onthis together.
I guess Mom asks well, are youguys breaking up?
Gabby says no, I can just makemore money as a solo female van
lifer.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
And then she it was
like a laugh emoji and then said
that they were heading to stillreaching out campsite, still
like putting it out there, butjust didn't commit to the full
separation that she should haveRemember August 27th.
Oh Lindsay.
Speaker 1 (45:04):
On August 27th, oh
Lindsay, oh Lindsay.
On August 28th there werepictures that Brian had took of
some scenery where they were inWyoming.
They're at Spread Creekcampsite up there at the Teton
National Park.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Yeah, beautiful in
Teton, I want to go.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
On August 29th, a
woman named Norma Jean said that
she was going to church in theGrand Teton National Park area.
There's a little church there.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
So beautiful, up
there it is.
Speaker 1 (45:33):
And she was going and
as she was leaving the service
she noticed a young man hitchingalone.
She gives him a ride and asksif she could take him to Jackson
.
When she said she's not goingthat way, he asked if she could
take him to Spread Creekcampsite, saying that his fiance
is there working on her vlog.
(45:54):
She takes him there and saysthat he quickly gets out and she
doesn't think any more of it.
Nicole gets a text from Gabby'sphone and it says can you help
Stan?
I just keep getting hisvoicemails and missed calls.
Stan was Gabby's grandfatherand she called him grandpa, not
Stan.
So that was very weird toNicole.
(46:15):
She thought maybe Brian wastexting her because Gabby was
driving, but after that shecould not get a hold of Gabby.
Gabby was driving, but afterthat she could not get a hold of
Gabby.
On September 1st Nicole this isa few days later Nicole texted
(46:38):
asking how things were going.
No response.
September 2nd, texted again noresponse.
She was looking through hersocial media and didn't see any
new posts.
In fact, her last Instagrampost was on August 25th, when
she was holding a little crochetpumpkin and it said Happy
Halloween.
Speaker 3 (46:53):
Oh my.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
God.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
Nicole started to get
nervous but just thought Gabby
had no service and she thoughtshe was just overthinking the
whole situation.
She texts again on September6th and 7th no response.
On September 9th, nicolereaches out to her ex-husband,
joe, and says, hey, have youheard from Gabby?
And he also says no.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
I'm not going to let
you power through this and just
keep going.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
No, If you stop me,
I'm going to cry.
You're fixing to cry, Lindsay.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
Oh God, Fuck it.
I'm grabbing the bottle Go.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
So then he tries
calling and texting Gabby, to
which he gets no response.
Nicole reaches out to Jackson, who tries Gabby's phone as well,
and no response.
He thinks maybe Gabby had gonethrough with her plan of leaving
Brian and but he got a reallybad feeling.
So Rose was also supposed toget a call from Gabby on her
(47:54):
birthday, but that came and went.
No phone call On September 10th.
This is where it starts gettingreally fucked up.
Okay, on September 10th Nicoletexted Roberta, brian's mom, to
see if they had had anycommunication with her, and she
got no response from Brian's mom.
And the second text she sentwas highlighted in green,
(48:19):
meaning that she had beenblocked.
Joe reached out to both Brian'sparents and his sister, cassie
nothing, zero reply.
And then he texted him sayingI'm calling the police, and
still no reply.
Nicole makes a Facebook postbegging for anyone to help find
her daughter, and this spreadreally fast.
(48:41):
Some friends and followers ofGabby's thought that they may
have just decided to go off thegrid.
Nobody was thinking the worst, okay, I damn sure am.
Speaker 2 (48:52):
I'm over here like
there's going to be some fuckery
.
There already is some fuckery.
Speaker 1 (48:57):
On September 11th,
which was 12 days since any
contact from Gabby or Brian, they called every area that they
might have been to report Gabbymissing.
The authorities in those areassaid, hey, you have to report
from the place of residence.
So they called North PortFlorida Police Department
because that's where Gabby andBrian had resided before they
(49:20):
went on their trip.
Officer Josh Taylor haddeputies go to the Laundrie
residence.
Chris and Roberta didn't wantto talk to the deputy or the
detective who was on the phone, but guess who was there?
Brian and the van without Gabby, what?
And the Laundrie said that theyhave an attorney and they could
(49:43):
have his number.
This does not look good, to saythe least.
Speaker 2 (49:49):
No, shit is lining up
and it ain't good Now.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
The van was
registered to Gabby only, so
they towed it yeah it's on hisproperty.
And Gabby is now officially amissing person.
They let Nicole know that Brianand the van are we're at the
laundry residence and they havelawyered up.
So they go into hystericsimmediately, as would I where's
(50:15):
my baby girl?
I cannot imagine what thisfamily went through.
So they made missing personsposters, passing them out
everywhere, contacted the mediaand stayed on the socials you
got me over here puppy dogfacing.
I'm puppy dog facing right nowso joe immediately flew to
(50:38):
florida and did a pressconference begging everyone to
please help locate Gabby and forthe laundries to please
cooperate because they're notwhat they're defending.
They already know, lindsay soword spread quickly through the
media and there's a hugeinvestigation now.
They combed through the GrandTeton and surrounding areas and
(51:02):
nothing FBI gets involved.
There were helicopter horse, drone and searches on foot dogs.
Everything, all the technology, all the resources were used and
also the laundry residence washeavily surveillanced.
There was media on their streetnight and day and Brian's out
(51:27):
there mowing the lawn and shit.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
I'm going to live my
life.
I'm good.
People were standing.
He acts like he don't know fuckshit, but he's just out here
just doing his thing.
Speaker 1 (51:36):
There were people
outside of their house all day
long chanting.
Where is?
Speaker 2 (51:42):
Gabby Right Exactly.
Speaker 1 (51:44):
How the hell isn't he
fucking locked up right?
Speaker 2 (51:45):
now, just for
suspicion at thisby Right,
exactly.
How the hell isn't he fuckinglocked up right now?
Just for suspicion at thismoment.
Speaker 1 (51:49):
Right, because they
don't have a body, so he just
literally says I don't know.
And he came back with her shitBecause they lawyered up.
They can't do it.
Once you lawyer up, that's it.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
F a bunch of effing
that Effing fucking a-holes.
Speaker 1 (52:03):
So these fuckers
actually went on a camping trip
and posted about it.
Hmm, yeah.
Then the body cam footage fromthe Moab domestic dispute.
It came out and got it was.
It went viral and her family iswatching this on the news.
They had no idea the extents ofthis incident because I'm sure
(52:26):
Gabby presented it to them asvery mild.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Right, and she
already has all this content and
all this stuff that they canpiggyback off of oh yeah.
Ratings, ratings, ratings.
Speaker 1 (52:36):
So now, everyone is
mad because Gabby was treated as
the aggressor and Brian wastreated as the victim in that
situation Uh, bullshit, exactly,uh, bullshit, exactly, uh
bullshit.
On September 27th.
This is now 10 days withoutcontact.
Police get a tip that there issomething going on at the
laundry residence.
(52:57):
The police go investigate thistip and the parents say that
Brian was not there and theyhadn't seen him for days and
reported wanted to report himmissing.
But they didn't report himmissing until the police showed
up.
Remember that Jim Gabby'sstepdad was in an interview like
(53:17):
on a news network and hearsabout this news on air that now
Brian is missing.
Police collected potentialevidence from the laundries and
in this collection they found aletter from Roberta, brian's mom
, to Brian saying burn.
After reading.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
What he's deuced out.
Speaker 1 (53:38):
This is what some of
the letter said you are my boy.
Nothing can make me stop lovingyou.
Nothing will or could everdivide us, no matter what we do.
If you are in jail, I will bakea cake with a file in it.
If you need to dispose of abody, I will show up with a
shovel and garbage bags.
Speaker 2 (53:58):
He has all them on
his fucking persuaded, fucking
narcissistic, self-controlledfucking team.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
He has them in the
mindset.
All will come together.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
He knows that he can
control the whole family.
He's got them in lock, fuckingdude.
Speaker 1 (54:15):
Yeah, she's a problem
mom for sure.
Now, gabby and Brian were bothmissing people at this point,
and chaos is everywhere.
Most people have concluded thatBrian has done something to
Gabby and is now on the run.
Speaker 3 (54:29):
Running, running and
running running.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
Tip lines were
getting about 300 new responses
a day, and can you imagine thepeople that have to sort through
that?
Yeah, the real shit versus thebullshit right yeah a couple,
but if you get, one.
Speaker 2 (54:46):
It's worth it, right?
Yeah, oh yeah because that'swhat.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
That's what put danny
rolling under yeah, one good
one one good lady thatremembered him from 15 years
prior.
Yep.
Speaker 2 (54:55):
Then the tooth fairy
came out.
Speaker 1 (54:57):
Exactly.
That's fucking weird.
A couple named Jen and KyleBethune, who were also doing the
van live vlogging, rememberedhaving come upon Gabby's van at
that same campsite and wentthrough their video footage and
sure enough that her van was inone of their videos on august
(55:17):
27th and it was the only van onthe trail.
That's it like you see it in inon there it is.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
Everybody else has
campers or rvs or something.
Speaker 1 (55:29):
Yeah, and I from the
video footage that I saw, it's
the only vehicle that was onthat whole trail.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
It was kind of parked
to the side.
Speaker 1 (55:37):
So investigators
searched where the van had been
parked in that Spread Creek area.
There was a river there andthey started searching river and
creek bottoms on horseback andfoot.
They came upon what looked likehuman remains after about two
days of searching.
(55:57):
See, so we're now 20 days fromlast contact on september 19th.
This would be a female layingon her side wrapped in a sweater
and there was a burned spotnext to the body and her boots
were off next to what had beenthe fire and it looked like the
crime scene had been staged.
(56:19):
This would be the body of gabbypetito and her death was caused
by blunt force, trauma andmanual strangulation lindsey
lindsey this one's been rough.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
I'm cloudy over here,
dude.
This is not cool.
I knew it was coming thoughthis son of a bitch.
Speaker 1 (56:41):
So FBI informed the
family immediately so they
wouldn't have to hear it fromthe media first.
They had to send pictures viacell phone of her body.
Speaker 2 (56:51):
To confirm yeah.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
To confirm and they
were absolutely devastated.
Her stepfather, jim, was thefirst to receive the information
and then had to call joe andtara that is so tough goodness
that's a rough one here I'msorry, joe and nicole.
And then they all had to tellthe siblings.
I had six kids.
(57:13):
They had to tell about theirbig sister.
Rose, her best friend found outthrough a reporter.
Speaker 2 (57:20):
Like a reporter
called her and let her know and
everybody looked up to her andher success and her traveling
and her art and her content wasjust so amazing, positive, just
good life.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
You aspire to that
happiness and I think it might
have been Rose that said it, butthat was one line that was
really kind of chilling to me.
It was like everybody that'shappy on social media has dark
skeletons that they're hidingand you've literally seen people
say that, saying I need to takea break.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
I need to do this to
get myself right back in the
head, like I'm fucked up rightnow so it was determined that
brian had killed her.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
On august 27th, the
day that she went to the
restaurant and then to the wholefood store, a waitress from
that restaurant said that theyhad appeared to be arguing in
the restaurant and all you seeis Gabby's like footage of all
their food.
It looked like amazing Mexicanfood chips, salsa, fajitas
(58:23):
sizzling on the platter, but youdon't know what's going on
behind that video you know thedouche so then that's when they
headed up to Spread Creek andthat's when she sent the text to
her mom about becoming a solofemale van lifer.
They saw that she had been usingher computer around 8.30 pm and
(58:46):
that was the last time herdevices were used.
But the next day is when Briantook scenic photos and had hiked
quite a bit away from SpreadCreek.
And then that's when he got theride from Norma Jean At 1.20
that day.
His phone records show that hecalled Roberta and had about an
hour conversation.
(59:07):
Shortly after that was when hisfather called an attorney.
He told him then and then lateron he made several texts
between him and Gabby's phone tomake it look like she was still
alive.
Speaker 2 (59:23):
Trying to separate
from the from the scene.
Speaker 1 (59:25):
Like they even said
that he didn't even think it
through enough to show that itwas.
He was like, it was like he washolding both phones and was
doing this and was doing that.
You know, just going back andforth.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
Saying the wrong
words.
Oh, and someone's doing thisand was doing that.
You know just going back andforth Saying the wrong words,
calling people what theyshouldn't be called.
Yeah, Just yeah All the signsare here yo.
So that night and his fuckingfamily just backed him just all
the way, all the way.
Speaker 1 (59:44):
I have four boys that
I love with all my heart.
But you murder somebody, I'mdriving you to the fucking jail.
I ain't backing them shit, I donot.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
I mean I love him to
death, but I ain't backing him.
No, I'm going to see how thisshit plays out, Lindsay.
Speaker 1 (59:57):
So he travels back to
Florida from Wyoming on August
29th and used Gabby's creditcard to get gas and everything
he needed to get back to Florida.
That's a long ass drive.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
Then he used Zell to
send himself money from her
account with a memo on it thatsays goodbye brian.
Speaker 2 (01:00:19):
I'll never ask you
for anything.
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
Trying to seal it up,
trying to cover tracks it's too
late, man so now it's time tofocus on brian, because he is a
fugitive and he's still missingyeah, there was a warrant out
for his there was a warrant outfor his immediate arrest.
There were tips coming ineverywhere and there was a
(01:00:40):
sighting of him in Ocala, nearthe woods.
Of course, I heard it calledOcala, ocala.
Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
Again.
Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
Yes, dog the bounty
hunter.
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
Dog got involved in
this.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Yes, Dog was involved
.
The morning of September 14th,someone had left their car at
Mayakahachi Creek EnvironmentalPark for a few days and this car
belonged to the laundries, andthey picked it up after it had
been ticketed.
It was like a Mustang, I thinkLike a two-door.
(01:01:12):
Was that a GT?
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Yeah, okay, yeah,
yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
They said that this
was one of Brian's favorite
places to hike.
He had told his parents he wasgoing there to get away from all
the media attention and theythought he would return soon.
On September 18th,investigators combed through the
park looking for Brian, andthis was hard because there was
a lot of rain.
Okay, so I think there was alittle flood that we had around
(01:01:38):
this time, because it was inSeptember and we didn't get a
lot of rain in.
September and we get hurricanes, shit like that, so it became
very soggy.
Dogs were being attacked bygators and it was just a wet
mess and it lasted for weeks.
So now we're on October 20th.
(01:01:58):
Brian's still missing.
They opened the park back up tothe public after the flooding
and the laundries now head tothe park.
Roberta and Chris.
Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
Like they know where
baby boy is they begin their
search Now.
Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
law enforcement does
go along with them but they
begin their search for Brian at7 am because they knew all of
Brian's favorite spots.
One hour later, They've beensearching for a month.
One hour later, Chris foundBrian's waterproof hiking bag.
45 minutes later, after the bagwas found, they found the
(01:02:36):
remains of Brian Laundrie.
What this was one mile fromwhere he had parked his car.
He had decomposed significantlyand the autopsy showed that
this was from a single shot froma handgun in the head.
He did it, he took his own life.
Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
You think they were
going out there and giving him
food and stuff too, to beginwith.
Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
I have no idea.
His parents are shady as fuck.
Fuck yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
Well, with how
decomposed I mean, it probably
happened right in front of them.
Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
There's video footage
of them searching.
If there was, they didn't postit, but there is no screaming,
crying breakdown from hisparents whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
They already knew,
though they were just not
surprised.
Huh, I don't know, I'm thinking, okay, I'm thinking he went out
there and did his thing withall the rain and weather.
In my thought process here Well, a lot of people.
Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
It covered it up.
He was going to do it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:37):
Yeah, well, I mean, I
think that that that that
weather situation and all thatkind of helped cover up all the
uh, the noticeable things thatwould happen with a human that's
laying there, for that We'llget into that.
We're coming up on that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
So inside Brian's
bags were pictures of him and
Gabby like Polaroids, and awaterproof notebook.
In this notebook he had writtenmultiple letters to his family
saying his goodbyes and he wroteI am killing myself by this
creek in hopes that the animalswill tear me apart, that it may
make some of her family happy.
(01:04:13):
Then there was a story tellinghis version of the event that
led to Gabby's death.
This pisses me off.
He was basically trying to saythat she had hurt herself, fell
in the stream and then beggedhim to end her pain and he said
that ending her life had beenmerciful.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Then why wouldn't he
come out and just try to Right?
You know what I'm saying.
Like you call the policeimmediately.
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
No, you don't end
somebody's life, mercifully.
I'm sorry.
You don't, you bundle them up,you get them in the van, you
drive to the nearest thing.
Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
And if they pass away
, that's unfortunate.
If they expire on the way, youdid the best you.
Speaker 1 (01:04:58):
I'm going to do that
for you.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
Yeah, I'm going to
dude.
Your shit will be all piled upand hanging out, dude, we're
going Come on, here we go andI'm going to make it like the
best moments that it can bewhile we're doing that and I can
watch you expire.
Sorry, lindsay, I'm thinkingtoo much now.
Speaker 1 (01:05:16):
But it's, I mean you
just that is a natural response
you don't kill somebody.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
I'm just trying to
put myself in this situation and
I'm all clouding up over here.
Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
We're up hiking in a
creek and I fall in and you get
me out.
You're taking me to the nearestemergency spot.
He's drinking straight from thebottle.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
Traveling whiskey.
I can't help it.
You got me fucked up right here, right now.
You got me fucked up right here, right now.
Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
He also wrote that he
wanted to go to New York to
confess to her family so thatJoe and Jim would kill him,
because he couldn't stand tolive without her.
Speaker 2 (01:05:52):
You think a lot of
that was parent persuasion,
though you think they were likehey, listen here, go do this,
we're going to do that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:59):
Let's be quiet.
We will never know.
Speaker 2 (01:06:01):
It seems shady, yep,
don't it.
Let's be quiet.
We will never know.
It seems shady, yep, don't it.
Let's lower your up.
Let's do this, let's do that?
Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
Oh man, Come on.
So he also asked that hisparents get left out of
everything because they didn'tdo anything wrong.
Yes, they did.
They covered for your ass.
Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
They knew it and
that's wrong.
They knew it before he even gotback.
Speaker 1 (01:06:20):
They knew within
hours, or the next day at least.
Yeah, this was all made publicalong with the burn, after
reading letter from Roberta.
It was also made known that inthat phone call from Brian to
his parents, that he had toldthem that Gabby was gone and
that he needed help.
(01:06:40):
And that's when they lawyeredup.
Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
In the big grand
scheme of things, it didn't
change what the fuck he reallydid, but it seems like they were
enablers to create.
They helped create this fuckingmonster that came out.
Speaker 1 (01:06:53):
The parents claim
they didn't know anything except
that Gabby was gone.
No details.
Now, one year after Gabby'sbody had been found, her family,
along with rose and jackson, traveled to the spot where her
body was found and made a vlogabout it.
They said they could feel herpresence and hear her spirit
(01:07:14):
there.
They brought her ashes andspread them around, knowing
where.
That's where gabby would havewanted.
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
That's so tough to do
that in your own child, I know.
Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
They took a picture
of everyone together there and
there's a huge orb right in themiddle.
Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
Look at that.
I believe in that.
Speaker 1 (01:07:35):
Oh yes, me too.
We've seen it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
Yeah, I believe in
that shit.
Speaker 1 (01:07:39):
They received so many
messages from people saying
gabby's story is the reason thatthey left their abusive partner
.
So the family started the gabbypatito foundation, which is
awareness and prevention of thesigns and dangers of domestic
violence, which we will post inour show notes yeah along with
(01:07:59):
other resources that we can find, that's part of the whole thing
behind all this.
Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
I get it now.
A lot of people like to listento this for knowledge and to
look out for certain things.
Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
Sorry, but her
parents should have helped her
realize this douche before, because I'm telling you, if this
had been a thing when I was inmy first marriage, I would have
left well before I did.
Yeah, so they also helped passa law where now 11 specific
(01:08:31):
questions must be asked when lawenforcement is called to a
domestic dispute.
This really got to me at theend of the documentary, when
on-screen text says that overhalf the women in the United
States will experience abusefrom a partner in their lifetime
.
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Half the women
experience that, and that's just
in the United States.
Just to be a decent-ass fuckingdude.
You're only 50%.
Wow, that's tough, Lindsay.
Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
I know, this is such
a big thing right here.
Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
I just cannot believe
.
Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
You have been puddled
, I'm puddled, I just want to
say to anybody that experiencesanything like this in their
relationship get out.
Speaker 2 (01:09:21):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
I went through a
terrible abusive relationship
when I was Gabby's age, a littlebit younger.
It was from the time I was 18to 22.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Just the same.
You held your head down to helpraise your kids Right and
ignored.
Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
I had, yeah, I had
baby after baby and then, at the
ultimate split, I was pregnantwith my third.
And it is an absolute miraclethat I'm here talking to you,
because there were severalsituations that I was in where I
could have.
I'm just telling you I don'twant to get into it because I
will cry, but it is a miraclethat I'm sitting here talking on
(01:10:01):
this microphone.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
I literally hate that
for you, lindsay, I know.
Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
I know you do and
you've heard it and I think I've
told you pretty much everything.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
But I'm always here.
I mean, I'm here to accept thatand help build stronger with
you.
Speaker 1 (01:10:15):
And it's been.
See, my third son is 19 yearsold, so it's been 18 years.
No, it's been 20 years since wesplit, and it still haunts me
to this day.
Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
Yeah, In your most
dramatic moments you fall back
on a lot of things like that, and if there's any little thing
that even I would do that seemslike asshole-ish or dickhead-ish
or whatever, just commonrelationship stuff that triggers
it, doesn't it?
Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
Yeah, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
That's tough.
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
But it's hard to
explain because there's nothing
that you've ever done that'sbeen anywhere near close to that
.
But I would never be in thatsituation again.
I have very low self-esteem andit's like people like that,
people like abusers.
They know what kind of peopleto target.
Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
Well, that was
probably part of the whole thing
.
Behind her motivation was tobuild herself into something
with all of her content.
She was compliant.
Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
She was people
pleasing, yeah.
So that was the whole reasonwhy he was able to keep her as
long as he did and he isolatedher as much as possible.
Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
Had her.
Yeah, goodness, gracious dudes,be better dudes.
Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
Yes, yes, women get
out of situations like this
immediately.
Like I said, we're going topost resources in our show notes
.
Men, don't do this to women.
Don't do it no.
If you don't like a strong, independent woman, if you feel
like you need to have somebodyall to yourself and not let them
be, you need to go get helpPeriod.
Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
You need to realize
what your actions are Unhealthy.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Right, you know,
don't put anybody else through
that.
Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
No period, but that's
so.
So this is it, huh.
That is our coverage of thewhole thing, gabby Petito oh my
God, lindsay, I got, I guess Ican do this.
Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
He's like curled up.
Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
I don't really want
applause.
Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
Well, I mean your
story to share.
I mean, I don't know, you gotme all puppy-dogging over here.
Speaker 1 (01:12:26):
Well, the documentary
is fresh on Netflix right now
it's new, the newest one.
So I wanted to go ahead andcover that, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
And get that stuff
with him.
Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
Because that one, oh
that one really hurts.
And they were talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
They were stopping at
a place where they could
finally take a shower, and hedidn't even take a shower while
he was there.
Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
I remember that Well,
norma Jean said that when she
picked him up he stunk.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
Just yeah, didn't
care.
Can I play music now?
Speaker 1 (01:13:01):

Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
