Combining the best books with the best drinks. I’ll interview the finest writers, because one thing almost as good as reading a terrific book is talking to its author. I’ve been creating cocktails and other beverages for my favorite books for more than two decades because I wanted to celebrate the romance between words and drinks and the storytellers I admire.
Abbott Kahler's wonderfully outrageous non-fiction has never been on better display than with her latest work, "Eden Undone: A True Story of Sex, Murder, and Utopia at the Dawn of World War II." Join us as we talk about this remarkable story of murder on an unheralded Galápagos island nearly a century ago — forgotten no longer thanks to Kahler's always meticulous research coupled with her superb writing.
The second and concluding episode with Min Jin Lee. We continue our discussion about Pachinko and Free Food for Millionaires and touch on topics from racism and banned books (don’t!) to how novelists have the capacity to create real change.
This is the first of two episodes with the extraordinary Min Jin Lee. We talk about “Pachinko,” the immigrant experience - and smiling while you do the dishes. I whip up a little something called Paradise Six while this marvelous author explains how writing a book is similar to being a perfect host.
Rebecca Serle’s NY Times bestselling novel, “In Five Years,” was released exactly one year ago today. No one then imagined what a year we would have or how perfect Rebecca’s book would be for these times. “In Five Years” is beautiful, funny, heartbreaking - and brilliantly life affirming. Read it now - you’ll thank me later.
I'm kicking off the New Year by talking with Andrew Sean Greer, Pulitzer Prize winning author of the bestselling novel, Less. I've created a bubbly glass of perfection for the book (pink gin and champagne, anyone?) and that leads us into a discussion of where inspiration is found, how joy can arise from sorrow, and what to expect next from the delightful Andrew Sean Greer.
A special Election Edition of Drinks With Nick. I mix up a Square Deal (thank you for that name, Teddy Roosevelt!), heavy on the bourbon and beer, before speaking with Craig Fehrman, the author this year of not one but two books concerning our Presidents: Author in Chief, The Untold Story of Our Presidents and the Books They Wrote and The Best Presidential Writing From 1789 to the Present.
This is an easy and important ...
Sara Collins is the author of The Confessions of Frannie Langton, winner of the Costa First Novel Award in 2019. I mix up a special cocktail for this incredible debut, looking for something that complements the novel's setting, Jamaica and London in the 1820s. Then we take a deep dive into this "beautiful and haunting tale about one woman’s fight to tell her story. The Confessions of Frannie Langton leads you through l...
If you've ever wanted to know about champagne, satanism, the Stonewall Uprising, chaos theory, LSD, El Nino, true crime and Rosa Parks, then look no further. Josh and Chuck have you covered.
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
