The Apostle Peter, like all great pastors and teachers of the Word, took every opportunity to remind his audience what was truly important. Peter understood that the cares of this world often overwhelm and distract believers, causing them to focus on things that are not of eternal value. Peter wanted believers to grow in their faith, to be strong, steadfast, and faithful through the trials of this life. He knew that with the spiritual food of God's Word, the believer would grow, but without this spiritual food, the believer would be spiritually starved and remain immature and unable to withstand the day of testing.
