right, y'all, We back foranother episode of the Music Impulse. On
this episode, I had to bringmy guy straight from Detroit because you know,
I just spent like the last likethree or four days hanging out with
this guy, kicking the partying likewe was in two thousand and six up
(01:21):
in Bowling Green. I had tobring my guy, bigged up beano in
the building back on another one.So good, well it's popping, is
your boy? Yay? Dub thepod god, the pod tribal chief,
if you will for this episode. For this week, I am doub flow
dollar right because I just did mysecond wedding as the efficiant. Shout out
(01:41):
to k and Tiffany for having me. As you can hear, my voice
is pretty much gone. But we'regonna rock through this. Smiles. What's
good man? Not much? Youknow, we talked about we want to
do like a little quick recap ofthe wedding and you know, talk talk
a little bit of music. Itain't gonna be too too much music talking,
and said, we just wanna it'sjust a little quick, you know,
have fun recap type of episode. You know what I'm saying, do
(02:01):
our thing real quick, you knowwhat I'm saying. But yeah, you
know, quick recap of the weekend. You know, I got ka,
you know, shout out to Kendrick. Him and his lovely now wife Tiffany
got married the weekend. We wasall in Detroit doing our thing. So
I'll go by my recap of mymy version of the of the story of
(02:23):
my weekend. So flew into Detroiton Friday. I went to go pick
up my rental car. Spent likean hour and a half in budget because
they had a long ass line andsystem issues, so it took like an
hour and a half before they evengained my rental car. Heard I went
(02:44):
over to the hotel because it wastaking so long. I tried to see
if I could check in the nextday instead of checking in on Friday.
They were like, nope, ifyou don't check in today and our systems,
our systems are down, we willmark you down as a no show.
So I'm like, fun, Ihave to go to the hotel to
actually check in. So after spendan hour and a half at the rental
(03:07):
car place, went over to thehotel, checked in, didn't even take
our bags up, just I literallyjust walked in, checked in, walked
right back out of the hotel.I was like, because this don't make
no sense because the app wasn't working. I'm like, yo, I can't
try and they're like, yeah,we're having issues. Everybody can't check They're
not allowing anybody to check in onthe app. I'm like, all right,
(03:29):
cool did that? Drove like threehours and fifteen minutes, three and
a half hours down in Akron,Ohio. Got there like midnight. That's
crazy. Yep. It got theremidnight on Friday night. You know,
woke up mom, sisters, youknow, cooked breakfast and stuff, had
(03:53):
cousins come over. One of mybest friends from high school. She came
over, kicked it for a littlebit, you know, did a little
one too. Got to see mymy little sister's new little baby. She
about three weeks oh. Now,you know, shout out to baby Ta
Maya, you know, out herein the world doing our thing, you
(04:15):
know. Then you know, droveback to Detroit. We left acting about
like three three thirty. Got toDetroit like close to seven o'clock. Then
you know, linked up with y'alland the weekend just ensued. You know
again, shout out to k lovelywedding. I got to be one of
(04:38):
the groomsmen in the wedding. Youknow, also brought my lady with me,
so a lot of y'all got toactually finally meet my lady and get
to know her and all that, you know what I'm saying. But it
was, you know, it wasit was a fun time. You know,
we kicked it. We did thatthing. But you know, we
got past the dub who ordained thewedding. So uh yes, let's go
through through your timeline of these eventsas we So my weekend was a little
(05:01):
little, a little crazier than yours. Went through the rehearsal at K on
Thursday and then I'm like, yo, what y'all doing you know tonight and
Friday? Like, oh nothing.I was like, well, if y'all
not doing nothing on Friday, yourman's is usually in Putting Bay Memorial Day
weekend. So I'm like, youknow what, let me let me just
make that day trip. I canto make a day trip, crash on
(05:23):
the couch and then just be back. Went up there, shout to John
Shot, Mike Shot, to myPittsburgh homies, surprised all of them.
Friday in the bay is nuts.It is insane, and then woke up
crazy early on Saturday's all right,I'm gonna catch the twelve thirty boat back.
I got this. I got this. And then as the day kind
(05:44):
of kept going, I was like, ooh, I should I should kind
of change his boat because you youcan change your boat back and it don't
cost you nothing. It was atwelve second phone call. So I caught
and said you're They're like, yeah, that's what we do for you might
which I got around like six o'clock. They gave me at six thirty.
I was like, bet, Ican just hanging party for a little bit.
(06:08):
That was a terrible decision. Wasa terrible desion. That was a
terrible decision. Partied a lot.You know, still made my boat back,
but from there, from where theboat is in Port Clinton, that's
another hour back to Toledo. Startfrom to Toledo, get my suit,
get my bag. Because I'm notsmart like that. I didn't think just
(06:29):
put all your shit in your carso you can just keep moving. Did
that, and then I zoomed upto Detroit to get to the happy hour.
When why did y'all let K havea microphone? Hey, he was
already going by the time I gotthere, he was he was already in
full So yeah. By the timeI got there, I was like,
all right, this is winding downa little bit, tund about to hit
(06:53):
these streets a little bit. Andthen we just Friday was crazy because no,
not Friday, Saturday. We waslike, we was downtown. I'm
like, yo, we should goto Greektown. We should go to this
one area and post, Well, you know what appen smiles. Niggas didn't
listen. Yep, niggas didn't listen. Then do let's go to floods?
(07:15):
Like I don't want to go tofucking floods. I'm like this, this
ain't a this ain't a floods crewtype of night. And it's late as
fuck because we was down there talkingso much. Time we get the floods,
they talk, moy have forty atthe door. I'm like, no,
no, not a chance to help, and then we ran see too
short. Come to find out, that's why I was forty at the door.
(07:36):
Too short? Was there? Niggasis walking back to Greek Town where
I said we should have went inthe first place. Yep, and sniggasmitty
like it was like too short turnaround, damn, that's too short.
Anyways, we keep it fucking moving, you know. We get to a
spot we should up for a littlebit, toss back some drinks. Nigga
(07:57):
beams sorry to buy tekisla shots.Yeah, it got rough quickly. A
Sunday, whoa Sunday was the day? First of all, I want to
say, first one to the actualvenue. All you niggas was late.
All your niggas is late. Yeah, So Kate was like, yeah,
we gotta be there by two o'clock. We just gotta wait for the girls.
(08:18):
And then by the time we calledthe girls, they're like, we're
already taking the trolley to the event. What y'all said, we were riding
together two o'clock that nigga told meone. Oh see. So anyways,
so they was running late wedding claning. I could tell she was starting to
freak out a little bit. Yeah. I was like by the time we
got there and she was just like, come on, gop go. Yep.
(08:43):
So that being said, I toldheay, like we're gonna keep it
short and sweep. I'm gonna getyou in, I'm gonna get you out
because we got partying to do.He's like that, I don't think he
really understood. I'm like, no, nigga, we straight to it,
straight to it. And he waslike, yeah, that was perfect cause
I guess it put them right backon time. I was like, we're
not We're not doing all that extrastuff. Y'all. Y'all know, y'all
(09:03):
love each other. Yeah, y'allknow, you know, praise God,
you know all of that. Youknow I do is I dos boom boom,
kiss on, Let's get it moving. And then that reception broke.
Mhm, brother, man, thiscan I can I say something? Smiles?
Oh yeah, go ahead, becauseI was like because again, I
(09:26):
was like, all I got wasmy girl's point of view from the reception.
Sayce, I was out taking picturesand stuff with the whole Pridor party.
And I'm not talking about the cocktailer, talking about the actual reception.
Oh, the actual reception. Yeah. When he plays they not like us.
Hey. Yeah, it was sobeautiful black black folk come together in
that moment, telling you long ofthe year. Yes, and and I
(09:54):
would say the line of the wholeweekend was a freaky as nigga he sitty
nine. God. I was like, we probably said that to each other
at least fifty times. Yeah, during the weekend. No, Like I
it's like, oh my god, let's all these black folk coming together just
to talk about the Canadian colonizer. It's great. It was great. Yes,
(10:16):
I was like, this is thesong, that's the line of the
whole weekend? Hey, how yougo for your life? But high reception
was crazy. Yeah, still recoveringfrom that again, as you can hear
the voice here. But what whata weekend? What a weekend to say
the least. Yeah, it wasgreat. So again, you know,
(10:39):
shout out to Kay and his lovelywife Tiffany on their union. But I
did want to talk to you aboutgetting no day, so you gave me
a little bit at the reception ofthe story. But go ahead and talk
to us. But how did dumbbecome ordained as to do weddings and stuff?
So you remember I used to workat the rec center, right yep.
(11:01):
When you're working up there, youknow sometimes you ain't got shit to
do. So I'm just I'm justfucking around on the internet and I saw
comedian Kathy Lee Grifford a god ordainedand I was like, what I mean?
I thought you had to like goto school for five years to do
that. Now it's pretty easy process. You apply through the Universal Life Church
(11:22):
and you get ordained. So Iwas like, all right. I did
it in five minutes, sitting atmy desk, thinking like, you know
what, this would be fun todo, you know, for some associates
or something. Because Bowling Green alsohas that little white chapel right on campus.
A lot of people get married there. I was like, you know
what, who knows, why notbe quick a way and make some bucks.
I've only done two weddings and they'veonly been for close friends, and
(11:45):
I can say I would. I'monly gonna do it for close friends.
Because even as I was standing upthere, I didn't get nervous until until
Tiffany was right down there and kflipped up for Vail. That's when the
nerves hit me, and I waslike, fuck, yeah, I would.
I wouldn't have known that you werenervous at all. Well, I
mean, I practice it a lot, so like and like I have a
(12:09):
thing like I'll practice it on thedays I practiced, I would do it
like once per hour when I gothome, and then like also use this
podcast equipment to record myself doing itand listen back to it too. Yeah,
I mean you know, because that'show you memorize lyrics. And it's
like listening really taking this seriously, like I'm going to practice it. Yeah,
(12:30):
and you got it, and yougotta do it when you as you're
walking around too, so you cankind of like wind yourself a little bit
because like the moment is breathtaking initself. So next thing, you know,
like you're standing there, but you'realso winded while standing. It doesn't
make sense in your brain, Likethe fuck, what's going on? Why
am I winded? I'm just standinghere because like the moment of a wedding
itself is just breathtaking. So youwant to have practice in that as well.
(12:54):
So that's my whole thing to getready, like going through the whole
thing. I wasn't nervous at alluntil like I had to do it at
that moment when I started, Likewhen it really hit me, I was
like, fuck, I wish allthese niggas was in the crowd and not
standing right next to me, Likeon the first wedding, I did shout
out to soup. There were somany people that, like I know very
closely just right there in the firsttwo to three rows. It took away
(13:18):
everything with y'all. I mean y'allwas just right next to me, like
I can't see my nigga. Ican't see my niggas, can't see my
niggas. And it helped that Beammissed the whole fucking ceremony, and Tyree
and Zerl had all the way inthe back all right, I ain't got
nobody to focus on with these twoin front of me, So I just
had to I just had to rocket. You did your thing, bro?
(13:43):
You did you think you? Thankyou? Yeah? Because like I said,
it was like this knowing you asa person that it's always funny,
like dumb is ordained. But hey, I want to do some baptisms.
That's what That's what I really wantto do. Autisms coming up next,
coming soon. You know, justget get a kid right with gods before
(14:05):
they start making mistakes, and marryhim later on. You know what I'm
holding Gray? You know I gotGray now. And then I love how
the people that did they're like ohyeah, the pastor is like I saw
he hurried up and got a drinkand then he came back out with the
Jordans on. I was like, yep, yeah, I'm playing it was
(14:26):
it was a few people that hadI heard talk about it or mentioned like,
oh yeah, the pastor. Yousee the pastor. I was like,
yeah, yes, guy, theman. You know how much I
hate drss shoes, mouths. Imean, I don't I know from Detroit
and we all love gators, butthem ships is not comfortable. I don't
care what nobody's say. And ifI'm a be up partying, nah,
(14:50):
I gotta I need my shoes tofunction and look good. I'm like,
you know what, bunch this tiefuck his shoes. I put on my
he got game thirteens, So niggasknew what it was, and I want
to make sure the next time theysaw me I had a drink in my
hand, and I did, andthat's what it was. Man. You
know, I got them right withGod now his party on the side of
(15:11):
God, and that's all. Iwas like, that wouldn't be dubbed if
he didn't do that. But Ishould have grabbed. I should have grabbed
Jesus pieces out too, but Iwas like, you know what, Now
I'm gonna do it. I'm gonnaslow plate a little bit, a little
bit. But two follow up questions. One, if I need you for
an eventual future wedding, what'd youdo it for me? Dub absolutely every
(15:35):
day of the week, twice onSunday. Appreciate that. And number two
one is double on find little.I mean, I guess when I go
to some hopeless place like Rihanna did, that's how she found it, some
hopeless place like Rihann. I don'tknow. I don't know, man,
I mean, yeah, I don'tknow. We'll see, we'll see,
(16:00):
we'll see. I'm a big fanof the streets, he said. I'm
a big I might be married tothese streets. I don't even know it,
but we'll see. I don't know. Well, I definitely have all
they all in my wedding party andtell her like, yo, and I
know how you ladies are. Sometimesyou only got like five rus is close,
but I need you you get expandyours out to at least ten because
(16:21):
I got at least ten in mine. So we're gonna to figure it out.
Yeah, because uh yeah, kay, had seven of us yea,
and only well, yeah, twopeople didn't show up, but yes,
seven all together and we were inJordan's and my weather a. Let's go.
I definitely rock theme Dordans at thewedding. Oh yeah, we're gonna
(16:41):
we're gonna figure out the color schemeand each person gonna have a different Jordans
on in that color scheme. It'sgonna be it's gonna be dope. It's
gonna be dope. That would befine. I mean, we might all
be fifty, but still he said, we might all be fifty, but
it's gonna work. But speaking ofyou know, people being fifty or at
least close to fifty, one ofyour favorite rappers and one of my favorite
(17:03):
rappers. But I know you youmentioned them pretty much anytime I record with
you, don't I don't even careif were talking about cats and dogs.
Somehow, you you will find away to bring up this rapper, which
hey, he's a great rapper tobring up Jadakiss. Now, he just
turned forty nine on I think onSunday, either Sunday or Monday, because
(17:25):
him and on hundred two thousand sharebirthday together. Happy birthday, Jadakis yes,
so I thought it would be funto go through what are dubs top
five kiss tracks? Ooh a,so in no particular order, The Champions
here, off of the Champions heremixed tape yep, which is a remix
(17:49):
to the song times Up that kidsdid with Nate dog RP Nate Dogg Yep.
So that's one. I'm trying tothink it was on the first album.
Oh, another kissing nay Don song, kiss Suspending. Oh yeah,
fire Fire and its samples the songI Keep Forgetting No by? What was
(18:21):
that? Kenny Loggins shout out tothe guys that let me book. We're
just we were talking about that afew weeks ago. Of course we gonna
make it. Come on. Oh, I can't explain to people how great
that song is if they haven't heardit. He just comes in says,
fuck the frail ship. It's whenmy coke come in. They gotta use
(18:44):
the scales that they weigh the whaleswith. Yep. That's that. That's
another one, Kiss of Death.I love Kissing Death. I played I'll
played this album out so much.On this one, I would have to
say shootouts him and styles Pee goingback and forth. Yes, the best
(19:04):
tag team in the history of hiphop, flat fuck out. Yeah,
facts, I'm trying to think. And they said I ain't sell my soul
to the devil, I bought hisfrom him. I was like, that's
a bar. That's a bar rightthere. I'm trying to think of one
that's not too obvious. Forty barsof Terror from that same Champions Here mixtape
(19:30):
and kissed the forty bars over theTerror Squad. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
beat, that's insane. He's athink about kiss thirty years. There's
no such thing as a bad Jadakinsverse. There are great Jadakins verses on
Bad Beast that he picked or songsthat have bad hooks, but there's no
such thing as the bad Jadakins verse. And I don't think people realize how
(19:52):
fucking insane that is. Yeah,I was like, I've never heard nothing
of a bar. I'm like, dude, like you could have, like
what that was the stress? Unlikeyou know that new j Cole versus everybody
will talking about on that grippy song, I haven't heard. Yeah, it's
it's a it's a bad it's abad verse. I haven't heard it.
Yeah, that was that was thefirst one where it's like, Damn Cole,
(20:17):
this is not good coming off thisold drake Kenjick Beef and then ah
death Wish with Wayne on the LastKiss, and then something else with j
Z Man. Oh yeah, theystarted talking about the features. You know,
respect my Conglomo with Busta Dustin Powderoff that Jim Jones product Project Kisses.
(20:41):
He's just he's one of the alltime greats that doesn't get the respect
he deserves. But my number oneJadakis's song of all time it's blood Pressure
off the Locks album We Are theStreets. Yes, that was That's the
song that gave us the name Superhead. Did you know that? No?
(21:07):
I did not know that. Ibelieve second verse. He said, I
got a chick named Superhead. Shegives Superhead, just moved in the building
and even gave a Superhead And somebodysaid that the Superhead after she did her
thing and it just kind of stopped. That's a true story. Wow.
I was like, because I rememberthose bars. That's like, I didn't
(21:29):
know that was that was her AndI caught big guns that you superled,
so play Superman and end up superdead. Call me kids or that kid
from the Locks got twist your momsout and do a bit with your pops.
I'm telling you, man that Jaco'sa bad motherfucker man. Yes,
And speaking of that, you knowhe's on the new single from another guy
who who's an ill spit her Freeway. It's Freeway and Jada Kiss produced by
(21:56):
Jake One, which fire. I'mexcited for a new Freeway project. I
don't care when it comes out, especially because the project that he did do
with Jake One was is literally myfavorite Freeway project. Are you talking about
Stemless Package? Yeah, Stimless Packageactually, Smitty was when I got me
hit to it in college. Whenit came out, it was like you
(22:18):
ain't heard the Stimlus package, Likethis is fire because Smithy would play it
over and over again. We livedtogether at the time. Yep, Spinny
was Yes. Spender was the firstone to tell me that came out.
I had heard about it and I'dheard the single. I know it came
out. I was like, yeah, we played that out. We played
that out of mouth the department, absolutely so many far shot out the Freeway.

(24:17):

bitches singing like the musical All IWant a chord. Should have seen it.
(24:38):
It was beautiful. Back to layinglow, blowing trees, yelling timber

(24:59):

chill. Ain't got too many theyfriends. I guess I'm too frill.
How you feel? Fuck that.I can't give a fuck up bout no
feelings or dealings. Everybody dies andI'm the feeling behind the back of the
layer. The most valuable players tripacross with the Lacens the crocod doll of
the day. That's a question forlater. For now, it's trying to
(25:21):
play up short the real from theFacers, just for or the boys from
them. Men's roped forty four throughwind suicide mission called Doctor Cook Brkie Year,
everybody died. I hate the toilerin, but the Armors just so
fucking glory is we that? Themen? The glory is you buy a
lace, we give your door.Rookie niggas want to smoke with the stick.
But it hit like a black andmouse took me in my eyes.
(25:44):
It ain't no backing down, lookme in my eyes. I'm the talking
now, Cuban leasing black these stuffthe fashion now we got all the attachments
now. Yeah. So I waslike so when I when I heard that,
I was like, oh, andyou got kids on this joint,
do this thing, and I've gotthe exact bar. But he was just
like, yo, I ain't stoppedsince the since the the versus battle.
(26:07):
Yeah, yep, and and thatversus that. That's when I knew the
dipstrim for a long night when theystarted off with fuck you, because that's
not a single that's just one ofthe better songs. I was like,
oh, this is in for along day, Long Day and not the
blood Pressure was the one song theydidn't do that versus that I thought they
(26:30):
should have. But that might justme be be me being a hip hop
nerd. But because Kiss, hejust goes on that ship for like,
I think it's a five minute songand he's just bar after bar after bar.
Crazy kids go listen to blood Pressureby Jada Kiss. Yeah, that's
what I had realized recently about atax someone quote that I heard him say
(26:56):
on this podcast years ago, butit finally hit me as I was listening
to some Dame because I was like, you really could raise your child off
of Like, if you want toraise your son, just play some some
some Jadakiss I learned. I learnmore from Jadakis and I learned from a
lot of my family members. Yeah, because I was. I was listening
to the Freddie Versus Jason project recentlyafter I was listening to UH Soul tapes
(27:23):
at the Fat Job. I waslike, I was like, oh,
yeah, let me go back andlisten to this Freddie versus Jason crazy verses
over here too. Mm hmmm, all the intro theme music, soul food.
Yeah. I mean I wanted moreout of this project. I don't
know like what more I wanted, but I want it more. Yeah,
(27:45):
because I was like, one, yeah, because I was I was there
thinking like why haven't I really goneback? And I was like, I
was like, oh yeah, becauseit was something about it that just wasn't
like flawless. I was like,I love, I love the marketing for
where they was dropping, like theprojects and all the freestyles that they were
doing leading up to it, butI was like, the album just they
definitely major labeled it up. I'lljust say that. Yeah, they still
(28:10):
delivered it, but it was likeit was definitely major labeled up. It
didn't feel like the big deal thatit that it should have felt like,
and the music didn't feel like thebig dealer should have felt like. And
that being said, the niggas stillrapping the ass off, Yeah, but
I mean, I don't know ifit's like the production like maybe they were
(28:34):
like trying to give the producers whohad other things going or I get when
you're doing, you know, albumswith other niggas, like y'all gotta agree
on the beats so as much asas much as Jaden Fabor, you know,
almost like the same nigga lyrically whenit comes to the bars, they're
(28:55):
not they're not picking the same beats. Ye Jada's not rapping over the soul
tape stuff, you know. Andthen Bad might have had a couple of
Swiss beats, but he ain't hadas many Swiss beats, right, like
Swiss, Like, I ain't gonnasee you like that A one pack Like
I'm just saying, kids, I'msaying, I'm saying, kiss that like
(29:15):
the A one pack. I mightsay you the A two pack right right,
but you know they can try itagain. I'm here for it.
Yeah, I was like, Idefinitely, especially after getting these soul tapes
now on stream, and I definitelyneed a new fat pright, Like,
I know, we see you inthe club every other day showing up all
(29:37):
your outfits and all that. Let'sget some some new music, give me
some some new music from all mymy veteran rappers that I grew up loving.
So I'm looking to a new fabproject. I'm definitely looking Jadakiss projects
definitely gotta go like fucking platinum ina week. Like, come on,
like y'all need to go ahead andstream all that shit because I'm pretty sure
(30:00):
it'll be platinum on my streaming services, Oh for sure. But kind of
switch a little bit to some moremusic. We want to talk about the
tictoxification of music, and also thatI would just think Panthers quote that you
actually sent me because she recently wasdoing like some kind of interview or something
(30:22):
like that where she said, songsdon't need to be more than two and
a half minutes. They don't needto have no bridge, you don't need
to repeat a verse or nothing, like, no song should be no more
than two and a half minutes. What do you think about when you heard
that we losing the recipes? Man, losing the recipes like no bridge?
No, like you don't need nobridge. Like the bridge was my favorite
(30:45):
part of like an R and Bsong. You know how long Stevie Wonders
songs used to be. I waslike I was, I was in my
old school bag and like I grabedTina Marie's Portuguese love that's like a seven
minute song, yes, and it'sfire, It's like and those type of
(31:07):
songs were like the songs where youheard them, but you didn't realize that.
Damn, I've been listening to thisfor like eight minutes, but it's
so amazing. It don't seem likeit's that you've been listening to for eight
minutes. Outstanding is like a twelveminute song, right, you put the
outstanding on it, You're gonna you'regonna vibe to the outstanding for all twelve
minutes. But I mean, Ijust I don't. I don't like it.
(31:32):
I get it. Our attention spansare shorter because of the doom,
scrolling and you know and everything else, but music was able to withstand that.
Music and movies to me, likeyou can still you can tell a
better story in a two hour moviethan you can a ninety minute movie.
You just can songs they somebody, somebody wants to said music or what feelings
(31:57):
sound like and really get into thefield something. It needs to be longer
than in thirty seconds. I was. I've been seeing this young kid four
bats like on my timeline intermittently hereand there, here and there, and
then some of my younger homies like, yeah, should check him out.
YEP, a local Dallas rapper thisnew album. I guess he signed the
(32:21):
Ovo he might be Night signed. The OO also heard that he might be
signing the Gamma. I don't know. It's kind of confusing. The new
album is eleven songs and it's onlytwenty three minutes. Yep. I listened
to it. These songs don't evensound like full thoughts. That's when I
finally I was like, I waslike, what is this? What's going
on? Like they sound like itsounded like, you know, he started
(32:44):
the concept of a song and likethere's some some ramblings here and there.
It sounded like a pro tool fileyou would say, and then come back
to later to finish the song, add on to it. But no,
he did that eleven straight times.I was like, this isn't good.
It's not mixed well, like alot of what he's saying is nonsensical,
(33:07):
Like and I know, I getit, Get off my lawn. I'm
an old hat ass nigga. Butyou got him at this. It's not
good no more. It's not yah, because you can still make a good
quality twenty minute project, but it'snot good. But for me, it
didn't help that even after me andyou talked about the project, and then
once I actually went to go listento it, and then saw him saying
(33:30):
little stuff like oh yeah, it'sjust like a bunch of YouTube beats.
And I recorded this in my closetand I was like, yeah, that
this project, Yeah that checks out. That sounds just I was told.
Not a fucking lie was told. And that's my thing, Like we're losing
the artistry and music, like becauseone the record labels are lazy and they're
(33:53):
just like, well, you gottacome to watch with a hit already,
and then you know, and thenyou do the work and then you know,
we'll have you put out a project. We're not gonna put like a
real, real team behind you, which is why none of these niggas is
media trained anymore. Yep. Andthat's the problem. Like I remember back
(34:15):
in our day, like it tookniggas forever to come out forever. Freeway
was on Rockefeller for years before hecame out. Years. By the time
Freeway It came out, we hadwe had heard that verse on one nine
hundred Hustler and we were like,oh, who the fuck is this guy?
(34:37):
And then he had lost the battleto Cassidy and then he had this
album he was sitting on where hewas like, I don't know what the
single should be, and Cam said, Man, if you don't put that
what we do out as a single, you fucking crazy. And he did
that in Philedolphia. Freeway is amonster outut monster you think about a nigga
(34:57):
like Game. Game was on Aftermathyears years, and then they started heating
him up doing the mixtapes, andthen they said, well, fifties hot
at the time, let's put himwith fifty And then and then they put
together what I call the best Aand rd album ever They gave. They
(35:19):
gave. They gave Game the can'tmiss production package. You're talking about just
Blaze, you're talking about Kanye, you're talking about Doctor Dre. It's almost
Scott Storage, you're talking about hooksfrom fifty. There was no way Game
We're Gonna was gonna lose on thatalbum. And you had to the to
the fact that, oh, yeah, he's also a phenomenal rapper and he's
been coached up by arguably one ofthe greatest producers to ever do it,
(35:45):
and this camp around him, itdon't feel like they're doing that anymore.
And going out the whole Doctor Drething. I've heard two Shorts say in
an interview, he was like, they was like, Yeah, what's your
best verse that you you've ever written. He's like, my best verse ever
(36:05):
written, y'all will never hear it, he was saying, because he did
it for Doctor Dre and he waslike at the time, he hit up
Snoop like, Yo, I'm aboutto work with doctor Dre for the first
time, you know, can yougive me like some tips and all that
how that's gonna be and Snoop hesaid, Snoops on him, like,
Hey, just whatever he tell youto do, just do it. He
(36:29):
was like, we spent like eighthours in the studio working on this one
verse, he said. Then he'slike, you know, we get it
done. And then he said Drehit me back like hey, we need
to redo and do some changes. He said, I spent like four hours
just saying I think he said likethe word bitch or like pussy or something
like that. He said. He'slike this nigga just had me in this
(36:50):
view just saying that one word overand over, and he was like he's
like every time, he's like, nah, just say it a little bit
like no, no, you coulddo it better. Like he was like
but well that's the song that hewas like, that was the best race
I've ever done. But it's thatto Dre, He's like, and it
never came out. It's a perfectionist. I mean, I remember seeing like
(37:13):
a little YouTube clip few years agoof Doctor Drect producing some shit for the
diplomats, and I was like,oh, this is about to be the
greatest thing that ever happened to me. And we never seen them songs ever
ever, But again, like thestuff that Dra's put out and it's been
classic, and I'm like, you'vereally got to put the time in shit.
When I was doing music, Ikept niggas in the studio for four
(37:36):
hours and we did two songs.Dud dude, it had to be right
like but the and again, y'alldon't hold these new niggas to a standard
of anything. Like niggas was sittingaround that freestyle the baby did on the
(37:57):
La Leakers Show. I listened toit, smiles, you know how much
that three star Ryan none of it, none of it at all, like
at all, And I'm like,I'll be feeling like the fucking the kill
Manger meme at all times. Isthis your king? That's what we're doing
now, but because I like thebeats that he usually flows on. I
(38:17):
did actually, because you know,I was one in the group that like,
but name me one bar, nameme one bar. Oh yeah,
it was nothing minimal, but that'ssome point, some point and that,
and that's how that's one of theways I judge rappers too. I'm like,
I'll tell you what turn that beatoff. Tell me you would give
a funk boy anything that person said, probably not. And that's that's a
(38:42):
lot of these new niggas too. You're like, no, it's just no.
And the fact that these new kidsreally they are unabashedly saying that we
don't care about lyrics, we justcare about the vibe and the feeling of
it. And they all pretty muchsay the same thing like no, like
(39:02):
like, I don't know what theysaid, it was a vibe, like
you know, it just put mein a good move. I don't care
the rapper was saying the black backyeah, and they're like, I don't
know, I don't know what isit, but that beat behind it was
(39:23):
put me in the mood. Iwas. I was ready to kick it.
I was. I was the vibe. I remember a kid I saw
on Instagram with something about how hewas one of the ones that like,
why didn't Travis Scott whin the Grammyover Killing Mike Michael And he was like,
yo, like I'm a college student. He was like, I thought
(39:45):
the Travis Scott album should have wonthe Grammy. He was like, but
you know, he's like, Isaw that this Killing Mike dude. He's
like, so I listened to theproject. He's like, I STU didn't
like it. He's like, he'slike, now I understand, Like you
know why the the generation like it. He was like, but it just
wasn't for me. I'm like, but this Travis Scott album was probably the
(40:07):
worst Travis Scott album out of hiswhole catalog, easily, easily, easily,
and that Killer My album was fuckingperfect, Yes, and it's Killer
Mike. Like when it comes downto it, like if you end up
picking between two rap albums, youshould pick the one with the better fucking
(40:29):
rapper, right and Killer Mike gota ear for beats mm hmm he and
he he he up, Like yousaid, taking the time, He's like,
I worked on this album for overlike I think like over a year
or two years. Or something likethat. Like two years he worked on
that album and it was beautiful andit came out amazing exactly because even when
(40:51):
you like look at the features, you're like that he got that feature on
it, but then you hear it, like, oh, that's a great
feature. The transitions, the musicality, like the slumber Joint with jagged Edge,
because I was like yeah, andeven the fact that the first you
(41:14):
don't even hear them until the endof the song, You're like, Okay,
he's telling the story. When isjacketed gonna come in? But then
when when they come in, it'sphenomenal. I mean, it's just it's
just better music. It's better music. And he was able to get a
hundred three thousand to put down theflute real quick, to drop some bars.
(41:42):
I mean, I don't know,there's new kids. I just don't
get it. I probably never will. I don't. I don't understand the
vibes, but not good lyrics.Yeah, I'm not huge on Ratchet Woman
hip hop. I will say, though, I will say Lotto Got Bars,
(42:06):
Cardy can really rap. She reallyis writing her own ship. Cardi
Got Bars. Gurella just kind ofscares me a voice, that deep shun
come from girl that pretty. Itdon't even get me started on Scarlet.
(42:27):
Yeah, he told me DMX cameback as someone else. I'm like,
yo, it might be Scarlet andSwiss sit. That's actually why he worked
with it, because he said DMXhis what wife was the one that hit
him up. Was like, Yo, see there's this like, there's this
chick named Scarlet and she's getting mevibes of X. And he was like
(42:53):
last album, which was Fire,by the way, that nobody talked about
that that little ep drop she's onthe track with. Who was she on
the track with? Like the Swisspeople? Like? The song is like
her and Jada kiss on the tracktogether. Yeah, it's heard Jada.
Who else is she on this track? Yes? She was. It was
(43:17):
heard Jada and Benny the fucking Butcher. Crazy mm hmm, it's crazy.
But again, it was fire.It was fire. And let me let
me be honest out there. Idon't hate all new Nigga ship. As
John will tell you, he doesn'tunderstand. I'm a huge, a buggy
(43:42):
guy about but I'm like, Yo, this sick. I like, I
like this ship, but I meanthat. But again, it's a high
bar. It's a high bar.And also can't explain why I like London
Drill Route so much. I don'tknow why. I just do just the
(44:02):
way the nigga's voices and how theylike. I don't know. It's okay,
it's just as nonsensical. But I'mlike, I understand this is a
gangster ship. Mm hmm. Theseniggas ain't just doing perks and sitting in
the room crying. Maybe I saidto maybe I'm just maybe I'm stuck in
(44:23):
two thousand and four, as Rayalways says, I'm stuck in two thousand.
So other than that, to kindof also, you know, switch
off a little bit from music, well actually a whole lot of bit because
he about to switch all the wayto the m c U. I want
to talk to you about real quick. Is a little short topic. You
(44:45):
know, one of the best actorsin the game, especially when he plays
a villain one car Leado Espasito wasuh. He officially announced that he is
going to be in the m cU. He said that it's not going
to be what we thought was gonnabe. So he said, he's not
playing Magneto, He's not playing ProfessorX which I'm like, damn it,
(45:06):
I really wish I'll I'll like Ilike to see him as either character,
especially if he would have did Magneto. But I know he's he said that
he didn't really want to focus onbeing a villain, but I still think
he's gonna be a villain. Buthe did say he has a role in
the MCU. He said he's goingto be teased in a movie and then
he's going to be fleshed out ina series. So I thought it'd be
(45:29):
fun to ask you what kind ofrole do you think he's gonna be in
the MCU. I've seen some thingsgo around about maybe a doctor Doom.
I heard a Dracula. What elsedid I hear? Mister sinister, It's
like maybe like one other one thatI read that, Like, it's so
(45:52):
many possibilities, But is there anypossible characters that you think would be great
for a one calla hpeci know toplay in the NCU. Norman Osborne,
m yes, Norman Osborne ye,especially if they don't, like if they
don't have him be the Green Goblin, if they just have him be Norman
(46:16):
and then like just be this codivingevil super rich man that at some point
becomes president. I think that thatwould be a lot of fun. I
think Doctor Doom's off the table, mostly because they say it's gonna be fleshed
out in the series, and weall know Fantastic four is gonna be a
(46:37):
move. Yeah. So when youstarted thinking about the series they got coming
up, you think about Armor Wars, you think about iron Heart, and
to me, those the only onescoming up of note that I could see
him being in. That's why Iwould say, like Norman Osborne, because
(46:58):
you need you need a rich back, you just do. It's fun.
It's fun especially with like them bringingDaredevil in and having Fisks there, Jimsy
Kingpin like it was. It wouldbe really cool to see that that comedy
between the two of Fisks kind oftalking but always having that rage underneath,
(47:22):
and then Norman Osborren just and withit being gen Carl Esposito sounding so poetic
but evil at the same time, but also not having the rage underneath,
just being the smartest person in theroom but also being the most diabolical at
the same time. I think youcan do some really cool things there that.
(47:42):
So Norman Osborn would be my pick. And also because Norman Osborn does
become president of Marvel Comics. GenCarlo Esposito is a guy who you could
see on a debate stage and youreally you put that dichotomy, like because
he's so well spoken, m h, it immediately reminds you of Barack Obama.
(48:05):
But Norman Osborne is the antithesis ofwhat Barack was. And Barack was
preaching hope and everything, and NormanOsborne just a bad guy. He's a
bad guy who they vote for him, but he's like, well, he's
not that bad of a guy.And he's rich, he's a philanthropist,
blah blah blah blah blah, andall this other stuff. So I think
(48:29):
you can kind of play off ofthe reality of we had a very well
spoken black president. He saw onein the Marvel universe, a well spoken
black president. This one's a badguy, and it would just to me,
that would be cool. To me, that would be cool. I
like that. I like that.I can see that. I can see
that because I'm excited because I knowthere's been a lot of little teasers about
(48:51):
the stuff recently with the MCU,especially good that now they're about to,
you know, kind of slow downand focus on quality and then instead of
all this county stuff. So wasit d twenty three in August? So
that I'm excited to see what theythey dropped doing doing it? Yeah,
me too, me too. Andthe reason I wouldn't say mister Sinister is
(49:15):
because there's a new rumor that BrianCranston aka Walter White might be playing mister
Sinister, Okay, And I waslike, oh, I kind of like
that, because mister Sinister really gothis flowers in the next in ninety seven,
they they boosted him up. Iwas like, Oh, he really
is a bad motherfucker. Mm hmm. So and Brian Cranston, I mean,
(49:40):
he's played many a role and yeah, I think that would be something
interesting to see. Okay, Yeah, I guess I could see that too.
I can see that too. Yeah. I'm excited to see what the
dudes like as long as they doquality movies. Because even like the news
that I saw today, Blade's gettinganother rewrite, that Blade movie not coming
(50:01):
out. Yeah, I was like, I'm gonna switch. You'll know that
now. So they still want totry to film it in the fall of
twenty four, Like if y'all goingthrough rewrites, I don't see it happening.
I mean, it can start filminga fall this year, but it
(50:21):
wouldn't be finished until I mean you'retalking about three months. Shoot maybe yep.
So, And here's the thing aboutBlade. They takes place in New
York City. If the writing isnot setting it in the winter, you
gotta go. You gotta go finda seat. That it's a lot like
New York, but it's somewhere warm, your louve love. So we shall
(50:51):
see, we shall see it.That's like, I think we'll definitely have
more news, especially come August. You know, Figgy ain't gonna going forward
and they are about to do nobullshit. Oh no, not at all,
not at all. But I meanyou like, if you you look
at what they did and then likethe care they took with X Men ninety
(51:14):
seven, Like if they're gonna putthat much into like telling stories, then
you know they're in good hands. They're in very good hands. I did
see a rumor of the day aboutlike the plot of the Thunderbolts movie.
Okay, it sounds like it'd bean okay movie. It don't like it
(51:36):
doesn't sound like it'll move the needleat all, or like really progress the
MCU story forward at all, butit just sounds like it'll just be an
okay movie maybe honestly, maybe amoney grab. Yeah. But then I've
also seen like hints of the plotof Captain America New World Order in WO
(51:58):
everything is wrestling that is going tomove some stories forward that I know.
That's also another funny thing I've realizedover the years how much you are right
about everything being in wrestling. Listen, man, like, if you really
(52:20):
sit down in like and study professionalwrestling, you realize because here's the thing
about the smiles. In wrestling, you have to tell stories in such an
obvious way that like you have tobe you have to sprinkle in nuance,
and only people who are really payingattention catch the nuance, but you can
always catch the obviousness to it.But if you can catch the nuance in
(52:44):
obvious stories, you can start catchingit in other places too, And then
you can also see how things aregoing to play out in other realms too,
Because if I'm being real with everybodyout there, a political debate ain't
nothing but a wrestling promo. That'sall it is. There's two people telling
you why they're better than each otherand why you should rock with them and
(53:06):
not not each other. Telling youyou realize that so quickly, and it's
because it's because wrestling is theater, but it's also it's also on competitive athletic
thing. Because here's the thing,Like people say, oh, wrestling's not
competitive at all, it is becauseof me. And you go out there
(53:28):
in any type of segment, whetherwe're having a match against each other,
we're having a promo off against eachother, me and your goal is to
make each other look good and lookbetter than the next segment or the one
before us, to get the crowdto react to us more than they react
to somebody else. So like ifI'm putting you over, I gotta set
(53:52):
I gotta sell all your offense morethan anything. Or if we having a
promo off, if my job wasto put you over, you done talking,
I gotta be I gotta look likeI'm ready to throw down the microphone
and get in your face. Andthe crowd has to feel that. You
have to be able to get themto feel something to connect with you,
and you have to have them connectwith you more than they connect with another
(54:14):
segment, because if they're not connectingwith you, you're done. The worst
thing in wrestling is to have aquiet crowd because that means they don't care.
Yep. And if you can getpeople to care, that's how you
sell tickets and how you put buttsin seats. And they understand that.
In politics and in movies, it'sabout how you get something out of people.
(54:38):
Like Trump, he activated a bunchof people who were scared that they
were being left behind because of youknow, the evil liberals and the liberal
elite and blah blah blah blah blah, and he got he rallied them,
and they you know, he waspresent of four years. Joe Biden was
like, Yo, these last fouryears, but fucking crazy. Haven't day?
(55:01):
They've been fucking crazy, haven't day? Yeah? They half? Do
you want another four fucking years likethat? You don't you know what the
fuck to do? M And againthat connected with people telling me you understand
the wrestling, you understand everything elsein life. Yep. But wrap up,
(55:22):
you know, go ahead, youknow, promote your pods and let
let them know where where they canfind you. At Ladies and Gentlemen every
single Tuesday except for this past onebecause Memorial Day. Embrace the turn up,
me and the homie John sometimes Smilessteps in, sometimes a wise man
steps in. You know what itis, we talking to culture, We're
talking to vibes. I promise we'reprobably done talking about Kendrick Lamar. Maybe
(55:46):
not because apparently Mop Size what goeswritten whole nother story for a whole other
time. And of course every Friday, let me book the Territory the greatest
professional wrestling podcast of all time.Smiles, Thank you for having me,
my brother anytime, anytime, youknow, you know, when I want
to get to that real hip hopish, I gotta calm my brother,
(56:08):
dub, you know, to talkthat that real ish because I always know
you're gonna keep it real. Itry, I try. Yeah, but
again I appreciate you. You doingthis, my brother, you know,
go ahead and rest up and continueto go go about your day. And
again this this Mavericks game about thecome on, so you know, look
(56:30):
like we might get asleep with thetipper Wolves maybe if they would do clinch
this tonight. So so by thetime y'all hear this should chosen because we
already got the sub started. Yeah, the finals. By the time you
go out here this, yeah, the Finals have started, so hey,
Maths five, yep, math andfive. Yeah. I think the team
(56:52):
was gonna gonna get get one tonightand then they're gonna finish it in the
mass, will finish it off atthe next day. Oh no, no,
no, I'm talking about maps andfive in the finals. Cooked.
Tim Rolds is cooked. It's arap. It's a rap and is exhausted
cat. Uh, it's just yeah, nope, not nope, no,
(57:15):
leave a love, yeah, leavethe love. But yeah, it's your
boy smiles from here on, myguy. Aw, you know, let
me book the territory, embrace theturn up representative l presidente, you know,
head honcho and and all that, and then your boy smiles in the mouth
