Between sleep deprivation, a messy home, financial strains, and overstimulation, it can seem like you and your spouse are ships passing in the night, barely acknowledging that each of you is taking on water! How do you keep connecting with this person you vowed to love til death do you part? Today, Paige welcomes Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Brooke Sellhorn to talk about this complicated season. Brooke currently serves as the Clinical Director of the Counselor Education Program at Purdue University-Fort Wayne and is a wife and mother of 4 young children - so she knows what she’s talking about! • Talk about what assumptions you’re bringing into your marriage and parenting life!
  • Remember that the assumptions and the narrative you build in your mind are not necessarily true!
  • Talk with your spouse: Ask questions, change your assumptions, and think hard about whether the internal narrative you’ve created is true.
• Add buffer time!
  • When you are intentional about setting aside time to connect with Jesus (maybe it’s 5AM, maybe it’s 10:30PM), your spouse, and your children - it can be completely transformational for you and for those relationships. 
• We have to find community!
  • There are so many life-giving experiences when we allow other people to speak into our lives and to spend time with our families.
  • If you don’t have a community yet, start asking God for new connections. It could be in a MOPS group, a local church, or an art class at your local library - take the first step and trust that God will bring new friendships along the way.
