Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Not
Just Candle Talk, the podcast
where we illuminate the path tosuccess in the candle business.
On today's episode, it's allabout building confidence as a
small business owner andcompeting with the big name
companies.
We're going to do a briefoverview of the topics.
(00:23):
It's going to challenges, taking risk, achieving goals
(00:51):
right, and it can also help indecision-making, inspiring your
team adapt to changes in theworld of business, turning
obstacles into opportunities andin embracing possibilities.
So self-confidence is vital andI want to touch on one of the
(01:17):
methods that I use for beingconfident in what I do.
Um, and I've learned this overthe years.
It wasn't like automatic For me, but I learned that Change.
Two things I learned thatchange is inevitable and you
can't Be afraid of it.
It's going to happen.
(01:38):
Um, and Understanding that Allsetbacks Are not failures.
All setbacks can be a learning,a road to learning why that
happened and turning that intoan opportunity helped me over
(02:16):
the years to overcome any bumpsin my confidence that I had
before up until now.
And another thing withself-confidence, maybe it's
three things now.
Maybe it's three things nowLearning.
Never, never, never.
Stop learning.
You will be amazed Ofeverything, how much your
confidence will boost the moreyou know, right, I'm not saying
(02:38):
that you're going to be the ace.
You know the ace of everything, but the more you learn, the
confident you are andcomfortable comfortability.
Confidence lead tocomfortability, right?
So I just want to touch on howthat those things help me and
(03:25):
possibly can help the next smallbusiness owner, because
self-confidence is it is thedriving force to whether your
small businesses will stand orfall for a short period or long
period of time.
Um, so just be mindful of uh,of those things, um courses.
Those things will also help instaying confident over the test
(03:46):
of time of your business.
So now I want to touch intorunning a small business,
establishing your brand intoday's market and I think a lot
of people have to understandthat you have to have an
(04:12):
operational strategy.
What I mean by that is qualitycontrol, getting high quality
materials, effective productionmethods to stay relevant.
You have to have those things,or try to implement those things
(04:32):
in your business.
That is another confidencebooster.
Once you know that you havegood materials, that's a
confidence booster becauseyou're satisfied and you know
that your customers will besatisfied with quality materials
, right Quality products, theoutcome of the product that you
(04:56):
make.
I said that all around.
I went all around that, butthat's what I was getting at.
Another thing that will helpwith boosting confidence is time
management Having a deadline, having a goal of when you want
(05:22):
to get one project done orstarted, end it and move on to
the next project.
Time management is vital and italso, like I said, can help
with self-confidence, becausewho wants to lag?
Who wants to lag in gettingthings done as a small business
owner?
There's no.
There's no lagging Gettingthings done as a small business
owner.
There's no lagging.
You have to, it's almost a mustTo have some type of time
(05:44):
management strategy In whatyou're doing.
And Once you get it down, it'snot a learned, it can be a
learned behavior, but once youget it down, you'll be amazed
and see how that helps with you, your confidence for yourself
and your team, knowing that youcan go from A to Z in a timely
(06:10):
fashion, so to speak.
Financial management is anotherone.
Budgeting, knowing your budget, tracking your expenses,
tracking your profits All ofthat, marketing and sales, how
(06:31):
to do research All of thosethings Will do two things.
One, that's another confidencebooster, because you know small
business owners no one's youknow, teaching you a lot of this
stuff.
So once you learn it, you couldteach another person in your
(06:55):
company, on your team, right?
Knowing how to do these thingsis essential how to market, how
to look at your sales, knowingwhere your sales are from the
beginning of the year to the endof the year or vice versa, the
(07:21):
beginning of the year to the endof the year or vice versa Um,
those things are crucial to umconfidence and establishing
yourself with these big, uh, bigbrand, um, big brands out there
.
Um, you have an idea of what, the sense of what they have to
go through and you're rightthere with them and you can
understand them more, better.
(07:42):
And I'm not necessarily want tocompete With a big brand, but
you want to find your.
You want to find your niche Towhere you're not actually
competing, but you are trying tofind that little gap that they
(08:08):
may have that you and your teamcan get in, squeeze in and start
building your own community ofcustomers.
Right, because you know theydon't big names, they don't have
all the answers, not all thetime.
So that's when the smallbusinesses come in and say, hey,
but we found this out.
Sustainability, we're rightthere with you and you know
(08:32):
those types of things will helpbuild confidence too, finding
those little gaps in marketingtrends, what's trending right
now.
If you stay on top of thosethings, that could be your end
to how the companies are runningand you take that little, small
(08:54):
piece for yourself and for yourteam, right, and that's also a
confidence builder.
And you want to have a businesswhere your craftsmanship is
stellar right, if you're makingsomething, uh, or having it made
(09:16):
for you, you want to make surethat, um, those things are again
, high quality, um can be donein a timely fashion and
sustainable, because that'swhere we at Everything.
You know, this world right nowis 2024.
If you're not talking aboutsustainability, you're lagging
(09:41):
almost right.
Right?
Everybody want the natural,eco-friendly products.
You know the things.
That's clean, so to speak.
So you know those types ofthings.
You have to implement that inyour craftsmanship, in your, in
your brand, some type of way tostay relevant.
(10:01):
Right, because we all, we allthat's that's what it's about.
We all want to stay relevant insome type of way.
I just wanted to touch onself-confidence, trying to ease
your way into big brands.
I just you know I had to.
I wanted to say my piece aboutthem, because we, as a candle
business, we struggle with thesame.
(10:21):
We struggle with the samethings.
Right, like everything that Ijust said, it's a process.
I've went through it, I'm goingthrough it, I will not stop
going through it.
Right, you can't.
You can't stop going through it.
And we're just, we're nodifferent.
You know, we trying to get ourlittle little spot in the, in
(10:44):
the market as well, and to dothose things.
We have to have the, have theconversation about it.
You know, um, and have the, um,the mindset that it can be done
.
So I just wanted to come on andand and just share my thoughts
about, uh, confidence, cause Ihave a lot of people that ask me
(11:07):
hey, how do you stay confident?
How do you keep going all thetime?
You've been doing this for aminute now.
How do you keep doing it?
And I just want to touch on itand maybe it enlightens someone,
inspires someone to go out anddo the same thing, or at least
get the brain working in thatdirection.
(11:29):
Yeah, um, so, uh, hopefully Idid my just do.
I want to touch on a couple ofbooks that I have that um, that
might help as well.
Um, it's called.
The one of them is called thelean startup by Eric uh Rice.
I hope I said the last nameright, eric Rice.
(11:50):
Uh, another book is, um, thenew philosophy of success by
Carol Dweck.
Um, if you want to, you know, try to find those two books.
They might help with, uh,self-confidence and navigating
the small business world, if youhave you.
(12:12):
We also have an e-book about asuccess story about a company
that a sustainable company.
It's just a short story,inspirational story.
We just made an e-book.
Inspirational story.
We just made an ebook and it'scalled the Journey to
(12:33):
Sustainability.
I believe it's a link in thisepisode I will put.
If it's not, I will put thelink of it in the book, I mean
in the podcast episode.
And those are just you knowreferences, and those are just
you know references.
Like I said, keep learning, keep, keep your mind always
(12:53):
occupied and on positive things, and in due time the success
will show itself in one way oranother.
So that's all the time I havenow.
Hope you enjoyed this podcast.
For the next, stay tuned.
For the next episode, it'sgoing to be about what are you
doing to get ready for theholiday season.
(13:14):

upcoming holiday season 2024?
For um, stay ready, stay ready, stay ready.
Um, hopefully you know we can.
Um, we're going to, we're goingto disclose, actually we're
(13:37):
going to disclose what we'redoing for for the holiday months
and, uh, I hope I can findsomeone to come on.
Hopefully I don't know somebodyelse can come on and share
their story as well.
