Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, coach, we are fired up to have the Broncos
and the Gli this go around, and you come in
with a number six ranking. Congratulations coach. Off to a
great start at ten to three and one overall in
nice splits with number six Michigan a couple of weeks
ago at the time in number two Denver.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, I know, I'm exciting. You know, we come into
the year with sixteen new players, form a roster that
was real strong last year and didn't really know what
to expect. But they've come together very well. They've everyone's
bought in and we're playing some great hockey.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
I know when talking to your friend coach Blaschell back
in the day when he was with the Griffins and
the Red Wings and every hockey coach I talked to,
it's sort of like the baseball approach, right, it's from
the catcher through the middle out and for hockey it's
for the goaltender. And you've got a great one, Cameron
Rowe seven and zer coach Cameron.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Rolls playing great. There's no doubt about it. I'm really
proud of what Cameron's done. He came back for his
fifth year and he's really been challenged by a young
freshman Hampson sukisk who's the starr. He's with Team USA
at the World Juniors right now and he'll miss the tournament.
But you know it's kind of a cam going on
Friday and Hampton on Saturday. I think they've both been
world class for US.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
You talk about leadership too, You've got a good one
in Tim Washe, your captain, seven goals, seven assists, fourteen
points already. Obviously he's one of the main reasons you're
at the mark you are in ranked number six in
the country.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Well, there's no doubt. And I mentioned earlier sixteen new
players and huge credit to our leadership core led by
Tim Washe. I'm bringing those all those new players into
the fold, into the mid ten freshman six transfers. How
do we become a team that thinks alike, that plays alike,
that cares about each other so quickly that's a big
time on Tim Washe. And then add in as extraordinary

(01:39):
playoff season, he's been huge for US.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Coach. How about this opportunity to be the head coach
of the Broncos. I know what your second stint with
Western Michigan, but obviously you saw something with this program,
and last year you guys were able to go three
consecutive times to the NCAA tournament that had never happened before.
And obviously you're a NHL experience with coach Blassel, you
were an assistant with the Red Wings with him.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Well, it was you know, I played and was captain
here Western way back in the day. And you know,
originally I'm in Minnesota, guy, I didn't know where Western was.
You know, when they started recruiting me, I had to
pull the old paper map, you know, you remember those
oh yeah and yeah and so. But anyway, I came
out here on my visit and it fell in love
with the place, and I believe what Wasston's a world

(02:23):
class university. It's a special place to go to school,
and it's even more special place to play hockey at.
Our support from the university, from the community is extraordinary
down here, and it's just a great It's great being
a Bronco for sure.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
What's it mean for you and your players finally coach
to play in an event like the GLI Invitational. I mean,
like I said, you guys aren't in it every year,
but you got number one Michigan State. That's going to
be in the fielding you guys open up. They didn't
do any favors. You got the defending champs from last year,
Michigan Tech. The Husky's coming at nine to five and
two in your first game on Sunday, And yeah, no.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
It's exciting and it's competitive tournament every year, and we
know Michigan Tuck is a extremely well coached team by
Joe Shawn. He does as good a job as anyone
in the country preparing his team. And you know, it's
unique timing right after the Christmas break, so our guys
are off for basically two and a half weeks. We
come back, we have three practices and then play two
hockey games, so we'll have it as ready as possible.

(03:16):
But we're certainly excited about the entire field there.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Well, coach, congratulations on number six ranking in the country.
We will look forward to you guys coming up.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, great, thank We're excited and we'll see at the tournament.
