Welcome to the hot seat. Full name. You don't have
to do middle if you don't want.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Matthew Philip Preston means lover of horses? Does it really,
Matthew gift?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
God? What what is lola meane?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
So I just interviewed Trent Dalton, and Australian austra and author.
He's just written a book called Lola in the Mirror.
And I said, mate, I had no idea. Lola men's sorrow.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Wow, And he wrote, it's such a sunny name.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Well, he wrote to me after we did the interview
and he said, now I believe Lola means light.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Oh so I'll take a bit of its beautiful. I'll
take a bit of both. Do you have a favorite city.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Mexico? City is pretty cool. Istanbul's pretty great. I love Bologna,
I love Moderna, I love Melbourne, I love Sydney. I
have a lot of time. Every time I've fun like
Adelaide or Perth, have lots of fun. Brisbane is great.
I know, I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
It's always. I love traveling. I travel a lot. I
really love it. America Hanoi is great. I love New York.
I love San Francisco. It's an amazing city. Yeah, look,
I think that's it.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I think the whole point about about traveling is if
you if you connect with the right people, if you
get the right advice, any city is exciting. You just
got to dig a little deeper on some of those places.
But the beautiful thing is, you know, with with the
socials and and with with with everyone, you know, there's
always somewhere who's been there will say you've got to
going to this place and get pacos, or you've got
to go and you've got to go over here. And
(01:51):
these guys do the most amazing rabbit dish. It's those
little gems that make those visits so exciting.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Every time we land in Melbourne, my boyfriend I got
this little place in Kensington for Mexican every time without failure,
and it's just a little hole in the wall.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
It's just our favorite place.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
They do, but they do make incredibly good to Tia.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, oh you know how I'm talking about, don't you
favorite nature spot?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Any of the back beaches along really from Point Lonsdale
all the way up to Port Campbell.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
I love that wild and I love the I love
the I love the dunes and I love the space
and I.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Love that that that thing.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
You know, I've just come back, I said, come back
from India, and you know you'll find one hundred thousand
people on the beach there, you know, perambulating and you
go down to one of those beaches and you'll have it,
you know, one other person. And it's just like, how
amazing is this opportunity we have? And those beaches exist
all over Australia. We're so privileged to have that. I
love the fact that people aren't allowed to build on
the beaches. I love the fact that you know, they're
(02:51):
building the other side of the road most of the time.
That's that's pretty good. And also I've got a very
soft spot for Magnetic Island. I think that's kind of
a little that's my little lost have where I love
to escape to.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
I love.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Well, if you have a superpower, what would it be?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Oh wow, well, well you know that because your immediately
it's the old Christmas present question, isn't it what.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
They asked?
Speaker 3 (03:16):
If they asked the three ambassadors for and the French
ambassador says he wants to cure cancer, and the and
the Italian ambassador says he wants to end suffering in
the world, end starvation of the world, and the English
ambassador says pipes and the slipper and so sore. There's
a there's a temptation, there is a temptation to go with,
you know, the kind of the life saving stuff. But
(03:36):
I don't think that's a superpower. I think that you
have to cut those those kind of you ending pain
and ending suffering. It's got to be flying.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
It's got to be that quickly.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
You've got to be got to got to be got
to be quick. And even if even if it's just
like very large leaping like so like Superman, oh yeah,
it doesn't need to fly. And but then you've got
to be able to land safely as well, because not
just about the fly.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
It's about, of course, thinking good thinking.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
I've been down this this rie. I've watched The Laddin
enough to know that there's always a downside.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Do every wish you have.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
I can't have you on without asking like sweet or savory?
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Savory? Probably?
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Do you have a favorite like favorite ever meal?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
No, not really, but I mean I love socialo pizza.
Pizzas might kind of go to. But if I've got
people coming around for dinner, It'll be slow roasted lamb
shoulder and some hard salads because you know, the oven
takes care of care of the protein part.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Very hard salad.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Hard salad is a salad you can dress in advance,
so like a potato salad or a grain salad.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
So so the basically you can have everything done so
when it arrives, you can do I really love to do,
which is make cocktails.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Oh what's your favorite cocktail?
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Well?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Well my well, actually, if I do have a super power,
my superpower is being able to hide alcohol in cocktails.
You don't know it's there. So I love I love
the take on. There's a wonderful It was a wonderful
guy called Vernon Chalko who had the gym Palace and
had Madame Brussels, and he used to think all the
g garden which was which is really simple, just going
(05:02):
by yourself, some elder flag cord or some gin, top
it up with soda, maybe a splash of tonic, lots
of sliced lemon.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Delicious, that's really good.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
I love a dirty new grony, which is which is,
which is of my own making.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
I can't find anyone.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Else's who's done it prior to me, so I'm assuming
it just spontaneously combusted in my mind and a few
other minds at the same time. But it's in the
gronie with five meals of olive brian no, and so
it just takes away the perception sweetness of the of
the olibrien. And then I'm also a huge fan of
the paloma.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Which glim recently, maybe with.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Mescal, because mescal is my Mescal is my spirit animal.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
I love it my favor.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
That's my favorite thing to drink, and avoid anything with
with zipper or the Greek hard spirits.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
It turns me into horrible, grampy, nasty person.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
I tried for the first time a beautiful single malt
whiskey and I just sipped at neat and it tasted
like medicinal, or it tastes like fruit. Min's part where.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Where were you though? Because I think whiskey is one.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Of those environment of Tasmanian one, Yeah, were you in Tasmania?
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Now they send it to my Byron home. But I
because I'm a Martini girl, so it was the opposite
kind of experience, and I.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Think, look, I think that that's when when when you've
got the whole, when you've got the whole, fire, long
walk on the beach and your fair al jumper, you know,
cheeks coming back but ruddy from the wind the seaweeds.
A whiskey has a certain something I'm a little bit
obsessed with because I was spent a lot of time
playing in that kind of the minimized waste space to
my involvement with Second Bib and one of my latest
(06:34):
latest ones with Challenging Watch was strawberry tops.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
You know the lament them. Did you vment them and
turned into it?
Speaker 4 (06:41):
No?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
I just well, first I just put them in vinegar
and then they infused in twenty four hours. But then
I put them in cheap whiskey and you get this
strawberry flavored whiskey, which you then make a high ball
with that strawberry flavored whiskey. So use a cheap, bad
whiskey and then a little bit of black pepper strawberry
black pepper whiskey.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Okay, you've just changed my world than Thank you, Matt Preston.
I have loved every second of these view are wonderful love.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
Thank you, m
