Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to your Diary episode. Here's the thing. I'm a
bit of a nomad, so these episodes come to you
from wherever I'm living or traveling to at the time,
so I'll share with you what's going on in my world.
From book tours, animal encounters, delish meals, nature adventures, health discoveries,
(00:22):
to swimming in Hidden Byron Bay Beaches. Come with me
as I share my adventures with you. Hello friends, Pod
Diary from Los Angeles rdio. I've done a lot of
fun things in the last week, so as always I
will share them with you. Monday's ep Michelle Brazier is out.
(00:45):
She's unreal. She's an actor, comedian, writer, singer, shares really
openly and honestly about grief and talks and shares that
in her work, in her stand up, in her book,
in her any work that she does. She kind of
is one of those people that weighs her heart on
(01:05):
her sleeve. So all that is up whenever you listen
to pods, it's there. Monday app and her Hot Seed
episode also very very funny comedian So how fun I
always love talking to really funny people. Slash I get
in a little bit if I'm being honest with you,
because comedians' brains are so quick, and I don't know
(01:27):
if they're going to go for a bit during the interview.
It's a little intimidating to interview them. And I hadn't
met Michelle before. When I haven't met a guest before,
it kind of feels like a lucky dip no matter
how much research you do. So I always get a
little bit, a little pinch of nerves if I haven't
met them before. That said, I recorded five episodes on
(01:49):
that Monday, and the only guess out of those five
that I had met previously was David the Medium. That
app's come out ps on the David the Medium note.
He is heading to Los Angeles really soon and we
are recording another LA True Crime episode together, just so
(02:10):
you know. So that's happening in a couple of weeks.
And I just think he's such a funny duck and
I love having him on and he just shares what
he feels. That is like honest. Obviously he does all
this psychic medium stuff, but his nature as a human
being is effing hilarious. We've voiced on each other a lot,
(02:30):
and I'm like, David what do you reckon? So it's
so much fun, so it'll be so nice to do
the pod with him. But also we're going to have
a day hanging out and go on to lunch together
and stuff like that. So we're gonna record that in
a couple of weeks, so that won't be coming out
for a little while, but just to give you a
heads up. But yeah, So of those five episodes I
(02:51):
did in Melbourne, I only had met one of the guests,
which is I guess hang On in Sydney as well.
You haven't heard any any of the Sydney episodes. They
haven't dropped yet. I'm really excited for them to come out,
but I am digressing. So Michelle was alleged and Monday's
episode that's about to come out is with an incredible
(03:12):
writer friend of mine who actually connected me with Michelle.
Her name is Chloe Elizabeth Wilson. She's a flippin' ledge.
She's just bought a book out called Ritual. It's unreal.
It's fiction. It's kind of like the cosmetic world of
set in Melbourne meets murderous Calls. I don't know if
(03:33):
I can say that, but I'm sure I can and
it's officially out. She's been doing like I saw last night,
she was doing a launch in Melbourne. She's doing Sydney
Riders FESTI just NonStop this human and we became friends.
Chloe and I became friends because I did an LA
diary just like this, and I shared the brutal, honest
(03:53):
truth of a tough week in LA. I remember I
got dicked around by a manager and after three months
of back and forth meetings and sharing all my content
with them, they were like, actually, you're not for us.
And I shared that like honestly, and Chloe reached out
to me on Instagram was like, holy Mac, I get it.
She was like, I'm walking back from trade Joe's I
(04:13):
understand that La feels like a beast some days and
feels really really, really hard. So then we bonded over
that and became budos. And so she's a Flip and
Ledge anyway, as is her partner. By the way, So
chloe'spp's going to come out on Monday. Her book is
officially out, so it's gonna We recorded that one in
(04:33):
our late in advance because I went to Australia right after,
like a day or two after we recorded the interview
and then she went to She's in Australia now doing
the book to us, so we had to record it
a little in advance so we could time it in
with the book release. So anyway, that's coming out Monday.
The book's unreal. We can get it flipping everywhere. And
Chloe is such as sweety as well, so talks about
(04:57):
acting school, she went to Whopper and then like becoming
a screenwriter really really cool, really really cool. Okay, this
is a diary app so obviously I'm gonna give you
the week that was. I'm also going to pull an
Angel card. I'm sitting here in my little spiritual sanctuary.
I've got my lucky candle going, I've got my Tiger's
eye crystal around me. I've got some salnite here and
(05:19):
some Labrador, these old crystals for like chasing dreams and
living from the heart and all those fun things. So
first of all, my mate Chanelle took me to this
amazing theater in Los Angeles called the New Beverly. Now
it's owned by Quentin Tarantino. He also owns another one
called the Vista, so he as far as I'm wear
(05:39):
two kind of like really old school vintage theaters here
in LA and everything that is shown on those at
those cinemas is on film, so it's like proper legit
like going to the movies, Like it's that quintessential old
Hollywood vibe right, like old popcorn machines. You walk in
a lot of merch, like once upon a time, Hollywood merch,
(06:01):
all that kind of thing. Cannot wait for Boss to
get back so that I can take him and we
can get some merched together as well. Tickets are ten bucks,
so cheap if you're visiting LA. It's such a like
really cool old Hollywood kind of experience. And we saw
The Departed. What a great flipping movie. Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio,
(06:21):
Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, like huge cast, the Mark Wahlberg.
The writing is obviously so incredible. There was even a
moment where a character says the readiness is all and
I'm like, fuck, that's a Hamlet quote. Like so there's
legit like Shakespeare quotes in The Departed. Thank you Martin Scorsese,
(06:44):
Like I'm presuming I think he wrote it. I know
he directed it, but I think he would have written
it as well, incredible score, incredible movie, like gritty confronting,
but like so entertaining, like you can fully immerse yourself.
And it was so busy the theater that Shanelle and
I couldn't sit near each other. And I was like, oh, like,
(07:05):
should we just go get dinner instead? And she's like, no,
this is like such an important experience for you. I
was like, okay, okay, and it was I'm so glad
she did do that, because that's what I love about
going to the movies. It's such an intimate experience that
it's just you and the movie and so you've got
full escapism there. It was unreal. So highly recommend. It's
called The New Beverly, and then the other one that
(07:27):
he owns is called The Vista. Ten dollar tickets, so amazing.
Everything's on film. I think that at the Vista at
the moment, they're showing Sinners, which is the vampire horrory
kind of thriller movie that's out now that everyone's raving
about in seventy mil am I saying that, right, so
everyone's going to see that, and that's on nightly at
(07:48):
the moment. But I do love a throwback movie, and
they do do a lot of like old school movies.
The other cool theater like that as the Lost Fearless Theater,
and that's like probably built in like the thirties or something.
I might be totally messing that up, but I feel
like it is. So I just love That's what those
things that are like such iconically LA and Hollywood, and
(08:08):
a lot of the time people talk about how shit
LA is, like it's a common, you know thing. But
like when you're you know, in Hollywood and an old
theater seeing a movie on film like it ignites you.
It is like, ah, yes, that's why we're here, right,
we want to create this art and because it's like
(08:31):
a cool, old school artsy theater. Well, the cool thing
about that is is like all the movie nerds and
the movie buffs go. So you're literally in the line
hearing people talking about being on sets, and you know
what I mean, it's kind of like you feel like
you're really in the melting pot. So fun, Okay. I
tried a new hike this week with my friend Brian.
It's called the Mount Hollywood Hike. So it's kind of
(08:52):
like you go up the top and the back of
the observatory really nice hike good incline, so you definitely
feel like you get your steps in and a good workout.
It was kind of really overcast and gloomy the day
we went, which I love because at the end of
my Aussie trip I had a bit of laser downe
on my face and so I've been really careful like
sun exposure and trying to like hike when the UV
(09:14):
is lower and at the moment. We have a thing
in La called gray May and then they say June
gloom and it's right before summer where it stays really gloomy,
super common in La. Happens every year and I kind
of like it because it means my skin can heal. Okay,
I think I told you I signed up as an
air one member. I am drinking that kool aid for
(09:36):
those of you that are like, what is air one.
It's like a really bougie health and wellness place where
it's got a hot bar, it's got a tony and
smoothie bar, and then it's a grocery store and got
great supplements and protein bars and snacks and Matt and
I that's where we go for our date day. And
I was like, stuff that we've been talking about joining
(09:56):
as a member. Oh my goodness, the value I have received.
I've already had two free member smoothies Delish, so you
get one a month, and I like, you get points
every time you go. So I have like already wrapped
up I don't know, like thirty thirty five dollars. So
that's a free meal just right there. So I'm wrapped
(10:16):
with my little investment in self there. I just did
a substack this week, you know how I'm mad for
a substack at the moment. I've just launched it. But
I did one of La and La Tour Guide to
Yoga Studios, and I listed five on there. Y seven.
That's the I'm actually going to go to a Y
seven class right after I record this pod. And that's
(10:38):
like candle It dark and kind of moody and really
cool music playlist. Hot eight that full transparency. That's where
I teach, That's where I work. And there's loads them
all over LA and there's one in New York and
a couple in San fran as well. And that's like
very very hot, so one hundred and ten degrees fahrenheit,
which is like forty four degrees. I only said forty
(11:01):
four degrees Aussie but forty four degrees celsis, and then
the humidity is cranked right up to like fifty five percent,
so hot you're sweating with him. It's like doing yogas
in a sauna, if I'm being real. And then Child's post.
I went there last week. My mate Meg was teaching there.
No heat, proper tradition Ala yokes. Then there's empowered yoga
(11:22):
again more traditional La like Vinyasa. I got approved to
be a subteacher there a couple of years ago, but
it was just too far from me. But if you're
west side, there's one in Venice and West Adams, and
then I feel like there was one other Moto Yogurt
has like got a huge cult following in La also
heated as well. So so much yoga here and I
(11:42):
haven't even like there's more I've got to try. Like
my friend last night was like, you've got to try
one down dog, and I'm like, okay, So I just
want to try them all out, be a little you know,
yogi nerd. I am. Also, I've just enrolled to do
some more teacher training, so currently I can teach vinyasa
power Vinyasa. They call it power one, which was a
(12:05):
foundational Vinyasa and Yin, and I love practicing other styles
like twenty six and two which is very similar to
the Bickram sequence and hot power fusion.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
And so I've just enrolled to.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Like train in them and then audition to teach them.
You've got audition to teach in la. I don't know
if I've told you that. It's like a big thing
here at all the studios. So I'm like, if i
can get two more styles under my belt, that means
I'll be a five style teacher. How cool would that be?
So yeah, I'm gonna on my next day off start
all the training. How fun. Okay, you know I'm obsessed
(12:45):
with Mumfet and suns. I can't stop listening to it.
I keep watching the stage coach show or set, should
I say over and over? I love it so much,
so much passion and just such a good vibe and
a lot of purpose. Like I love watching musicians where
you can tell it's one hundred percent their purpose and
you can see like that the artist is getting united
(13:08):
by performing live as well and like being connected to
the crowd. I love watching that energy. I've got a
clip to play you with Conan O'Brien. I found it
on TikTok last night. Let me get it up for you.
I put it on my stories. So I'm going to
see if I can time this right. Pause. Pause, Here
we go. Okay, so he's talking about work ethic. Here,
(13:31):
I'm going to turn it right up and play it
for you.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Interns come work for me, and the ones that always
rise up to the ranks and end up becoming a
producer on the show and eventually producers of their own
shows are always the interns that showed up, killed themselves,
did a really good job, but didn't they weren't the
ones jumping on the elevator with me. And I'm like, Conan,
you me moch lante, because I had interns do that
and we murdered them. And you know, there's no secret.
(14:00):
It really is. Like if I had to say, it's
two things, it's working really hard and being easy to
work with and kind. You put those two things together
and in any economy, sadly you'll be a rarity.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
How curl working hard and being really easy to work with.
And I was like, oh, that kind of like sparks
something within me, and it landed on me, and I
was like, it's one thing having a great work ethic,
which some people have some people don't have, But that's
something that's a skill that can be acquired. You can
(14:34):
train yourself essentially. But then that like being easy to
work with. That means being adaptable, That means being resilient.
That means like being open to growing and being kind
as well, like being a good human at the end
of the day. And I think like that when I'm
(14:57):
on a set, like even if if I'm nervous, I
can still be both of those things that he just mentioned.
I can still work really really hard, and I can
still be really easy to work with and kind. And
I think that's a really good barometer to go into
any work scenario with. Anyway, it just sparks something with him,
and I was like, I was falling asleep last night
(15:19):
and doom scrolling as one does, and this beautiful little
TikTok Conan O'Brien clip popped up, and I was like, oh,
shut's got to share that tomorrow with the Potteroonies. Got
to share that on the pod diary. So yeah, that
was my little bit of inspiration. Now not to get
morbid on you. But TikTok is blowing up right now,
(15:40):
and it's all over the LA news. There's a serial killer, yes,
in Northol, Hollywood. No less checking for unlocked, unlocked apartments,
and it's on camera of this perpetrator trying to open
apartment doors and get in. Holy Mac, I can't tell
you now how many times I check my lock at night.
I I was just like gobsmacked. It is meant. I'm like, also,
(16:04):
I feel like murdering and serial killering, and tell me
if I'm like totally being dumb about this. But I
thought that was like very seventies and eighties, maybe a
bit of nineties, because now digital footprint is so big
and people have like you know, it's easy to track
where bella. Like at any one time, Boss has find
(16:25):
my phone on my like he knows exactly where I
am right and like if I'm ever going into a
meeting or something where someone doesn't know me, I'll always
let Boss know going into a meeting. Or if I
teach late at night at the yogat Geo and I'm
walking down to my car late and it's dark, like
I'm a pretty short person, like I'd be pretty easy
(16:45):
to like, I don't know grab and I'll always text
him as I'm walking to my car and be like,
hey boss, just walking to my car. It's just always
got a timestamp of knowing that I'm walking into my
car at that time. So for me, it's wild that
this could be going on right now. Anyway. Another thing,
and this is just sharing the realities of LA, but
(17:07):
my schedule, my teaching schedules changed this week and I'm there.
I'm teaching yoga a lot later at night, so I'm
walking back to my car when it's dark and now
I have pepper spray in my bag And Australians would
be like, what, Yeah, you can buy it at Target.
That is where you get pepper spray. And I literally
have it in my bag just so I feel really
(17:27):
safe walking down, you know, going through the parking lot
downstairs to get to my car. That might sound a
bit hypochondriachy or like over anxious, but I'm like, I'd
rather I'm gonna feel calmer and clear if I feel prepared. Anyway,
That is just like honest truth of LA this week. Now,
switching the energy up and closing this update out with
(17:52):
a little Angel card Pool So I have got the
Dorian Virtue deck here. It's called Magical Mermaids and Dolphins.
I've had it for a gazillion years. Literally, Like I reckon,
I've had this for like, well, I'm thirty nine. I
don't reckon. I've had it for twenty years, but not
much off it, like definitely more than ten, closer to fifteen.
(18:14):
So I'm just having a little shuffle, can you hear that?
So the way I like to pull is past, present, future,
So just have a little think of like this is
a Friday episode, so like maybe what you want to
happen on the weekend. So we're just gonna pull a
card for past. Oh, I like the look at that one. Yeah, present,
(18:39):
mix it up. I'll be future. And then I put
the deck back together, and I always look at what
is on the bottom of the deck. My nan taught
me that she used to be a tarot card reader.
She actually taught me to read tarot cards. Okay, so
on the bottom of the deck you have positive energy,
surround yourself with positive people in situations, and avoid negativity.
(19:00):
That's a really cool thing to hear going into your
Friday or weekend. So choose to be in a positive situation.
I am a efing pro at. When a situation feels yuck,
I literally would just like take myself out of it, like,
oh happily, just walk away and busy myself doing something else. Okay,
dream big, let go of small thoughts about yourself and
(19:22):
see yourself succeeding. Rest. You've been working hard, Take a
nap and get some rest. Perfect. We're coming into the weekend.
And then wait, don't rush into action right now. Buy
your time for better results. So when I get a
card like that that, I'm like, what does that mean?
I want to know more about this weight card. I
just put three more on top of it. Again, something
(19:42):
my nan taught me. She's amazing. Actually it was David
the medium that read for me, and he came up
and she came up, sorry, like in the craziest ways
in the reading, and he said, anytime you see a
black cat, it's your nan, Dorothy d Yes. She has
liked being called mad for cats, loves cats. So I'm
(20:06):
just playing three more and putting it over the weightcard
just because I want a little bit more clarification around
it there. That card definitely needs to come out. You
can kind of tell when you're doing card readings of
cards want to come out, they'll kind of like pop out,
so funny. So the bottom card again is positive energy
and I reshuffled. So surround yourself with positive people and situations,
(20:29):
avoid negativity. So that means you're probably going to need
to like stand in your truth and stand your ground
and be like, m is this situation right? If you
need to like do something else or change your energy
your plans, don't beat yourself up. Okay. So on top
of the weight card, we're going to pull three more cards.
So at the moment we've got positive energy, dream big, rest,
(20:51):
and weight, and now we're going to deep dive, deep
dive into weight. So the first card I pulled on
top of weight is treasure chest. An unforeseen windfall of
new abundance comes to you now. Great, So it's definitely
worth taking a beat with whatever choice you have coming up.
That kind of feels financial to me, blessed change, a
(21:13):
major life change brings you great blessings. This to me
feels like a new career opportunity or business opportunity. Oof,
we got a goodie. Yes, your intuition is correct, take
action accordingly. Amazing, So looking at this reading, I would
say this weekend, make it a priority to be around
(21:34):
positive people or do things that make you feel like
you're sitting in positive energy. So that could just be
like getting to yoga class and giving back to yourself,
or going on a nature walk with a bud, or
just taking some time for yourself, or go on to
the movies. Dream big, make some time, set some time
aside to journal, focus on where you want to be
in like a month's time, three months time, a year's time. Rest,
(21:57):
let that shit settle, like take a beat, let it
all settle, get really clear on a lighter candle, sets intentions,
and then let that settle. Settling really sink in, like
almost longer than you normally would like, really go back
to the journal the next day, go back to the
affirmations next day, go back to what feels like. So
(22:19):
you're locking it in, if that makes sense, because what
is to come with this waiting is so the weight
card says, don't rush into action right now, bide your time.
So that means like, keep journaling, keep it in clear,
keep getting clear, like realign like really refine those goals
and dreams, because what will come through that waiting that
(22:39):
being patient and that giving yourself time to recharge is
treasure chest. An unforeseen windfall of new abundance comes your way.
Blessed change, a major life change brings you great blessings.
That tells me you got a dream big. You got
to write big goals and dreams down when you journal
on the weekend. And then the final hard is yes,
(23:01):
your intuition is correct, take action accordingly. And I want
to come back to this card that's come up twice
in this reading, which is positive energy. Surround yourself with
positive people and situations. Avoid negativity because it's come up twice.
You're going to have to take actions to stay in
positive positivity. That makes sense. I just sort to do
(23:22):
a little random card reading. If you like it, let
me know. And I can always like pop a minute
the end of a pod diary if they work, if
you get over them, let me know. Anyway, hooraru friends,
have a riper day weekend. Whenever you're listening to this,
and remember, surround yourself with positive energy. If you're in
a working environment, do the Conan O'Brien, work really hard,
(23:46):
be really easy to work with, and stay kind.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Bye.
