Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to your diary episode. Here's the thing. I'm a
bit of a nomad, so these episodes come to from
wherever I'm living or traveling to at the time, so
I'll share with you what's going on in my world,
from book tours, animal encounters, delish meals, nature adventures, health
discoveries to swimming in hidden Byron Bay beaches. Come with
(00:25):
me as I share my adventures with you. Hello, Gangles,
Can I say well, first of all, welcome to La Diary.
It is a joy to be sitting down doing this
diary with you today because I have a podcast tomorrow
here in Los Angeles with David the Medium and what
(00:46):
we do. This is the third one we've done together.
We go around to haunted LA locations. Basically, I research
all the bts of the location, but I don't tell
David anything like I just him in the location and
just see what he can pick up. And it is
(01:06):
I am a skaty cat. I'm gonna be real with you.
I'm a skaty cat. So I have to do my
research for these kind of things in daytime. It was
like when I interviewed Anthony Lapalia on the pod. He
has an incredible body of work, but he'd been in
that Annabelle horror series where the dolls are like murderers
(01:26):
or something. Anyway, it's got a huge, huge following, and
he did it because his daughter was obsessed with the
movie franchise. And I said to him, I have watched
your whole body of work pretty much, and I was like,
with the exception of this flipping horror that I am
so scared of. And I was like, I could go
(01:47):
through twenty five minutes in the daytime, and that's how
So that just to give you like a barometer of
like how scared I am. I'm a scaty cat. Like
I know there's one location David is going to be like,
let's enter the bill, and I'm going to be like,
absolutely not. There is too much paranormal shit going on.
It's not going to happen for me. So I'm taking
to all these locations. I can tell you about it
(02:09):
because but by the time this episode comes out, we
will just be finished recording, and I know he'll be
physically with me, so he won't be able to hear
this episode. So David, you can listen to this after
we finished recording. But out where we're going tomorrow. Oh
my goodness, look at this. I've taken so many notes.
I've had to pull one location out because I too
much bad stuff still goes on there, and I just
(02:34):
I don't want to be like I try to find
a haunted kind of like infamous, kind of like murder
locations that are old Hollywood kind of vibes that post
of stuff that's still very fresh. Anyway, Black Dahlia, which
is like, oh, this is I'm giving you a taste
of what we're doing. Black Dahlia, which is essentially still
(02:56):
a cold case or an unsolved murder from nineteen forty seven,
and it's this like young Hollywood hopeful actress and her
name is Elizabeth Short, I believe, And anyway, her murder
was like gruesome and very brutal and kind of meticulous,
and it's still there's theories about who did it and
(03:19):
theories about like the house it initially happened in. And
so I'm taking David to that house. That's gonna be
our location numero uno. But I just want to see
what he picks up, because over the years they've taken
like siffer dogs to the house and found human remains
Da Da Da da, so fascinating. I'm taking him to
the Culver Studios. It's a famous film show where I
(03:42):
believe I need to do more research on it today,
but I believe that's where it was Wizard of Oz
gone with the wind Raging Ball, and it's got to
do with the person that created the studios and their
death and how the may have been covered up and
how he now haunts the studios. It's the most beautiful
(04:05):
studio too, It's like quintessential Hollywood. And then of course
the Cecil Hotel. A lot of people have written to
me about this one. This is in downtown Los Angeles,
and there's been that's been the scariest. Actually, if I'm honest,
this is the one that I'm like, absolutely not, We're
not going in. This is the one where stuff's being
caught on camera. Like a lot of ghost hunters and
paranormal activity people have gone there, but it is like
(04:30):
so scary, Like it's been nicknamed Hotel Death, like Ryan
Murphy has done a whole American horror story based around it.
Two serial killers have like stayed there over the years,
the Nightstalker and this other guy called Jack Utu Wagner,
who is a I think he's not American. He's from
(04:53):
Oh he's from Austria, but he came there. He got
put in jail in Austria for being a murderer and
then they let him and then he went to LA
and he would murder women with their own bras. That
was his wholemo. Anyway, needless to say, I am scared
about tomorrow, but I know David will be fascinated. And
(05:15):
there's been a recent ish death in twenty thirteen that
people believe has a paranormal kind of like twang to
its so fascinating see what comes up for David. And
then we're going to the Beverly Center. Now this has
been way harder to research, so I have to deep
dive that one loads more. But there's like mean to
(05:37):
be like a really dark energy around the Beverly Center,
which anyone that knows LA is a huge shopping mall
like on the cusp of West Hollywood. Yeah, it's in
West Hollywood. So anyway, anyway, so fascinating, and that'll be
my day tomorrow of interviewing beautiful David the medium, who
(06:00):
been on the pod probably more than any other guest,
and now I've got all my where are my pod
notes for today? I made a bunch of them. I
know I can't find them. Great good one, Lala, Oh
he there. So the week that was okay, radio, this
(06:21):
is the wrong. This is last week's pod diary. This
is last week's pod diary. Lola, Oh no, it's not. Now,
it's not. No, it's not I'm here so basically since
we last chit. No, this is last week's pod diary.
I tell you no, I made new pod notes. I
(06:41):
know I did, because I did it all yesterday. Bear
with me. Very unprofessional of me. I apologize. Here we do.
Here we are. Yes. I was like, I'm organized, much
more organized than this. Okay, So the week that was
so obviously, David the Medium is super pumped to interview
him tomorrow, and I get equal parts nervous. But do
(07:01):
you know what, being with David, I feel really safe
because I might even at the start of the interview
be like, can you protect us both because you're kind
of like diving into like not morbid, but like darker
energy stuff. Right, So I'll get him too, a little
protection on us, and I think we'll bring that out
(07:22):
in the next few weeks because it's just so fascinating,
you know, then we're going to have We're gonna have.
I am mad for substack. I think I've told you
about it. I've made sure mine is totally free so
you can follow me on substack. I think it's just substack. Yeah,
my Laula Berry, same as my Insta. I share a
weekly la diary, and then I kind of share musings,
(07:44):
and then I just share a little bit like a
little bit like Insta, like a little pick of the day,
a little behind the scenes of the day, or if
I'm missing Byron, like a bit of a nature picko.
But it's a bit like Pinterest meets Twitter meets a blog. Essentially,
a lot of writers are on there, a couple of
pog casters, a couple of actors, but a lot of
writers are on there. So if you have aspirations to write,
(08:05):
start a substack. That would be my first advice. I
tell everybody they coach the book coaching, get a substack yesterday,
because I think literary agents are going to be one
looking for that. My friends, I went to a little
housewarming dinner on the weekend, my beautiful friends, and I
got them. I went to that hippie spiritual shop in
(08:27):
Hollywood that might be a fascinating place to take David too.
I don't think we're going to have the time. There's
this really cool, witchy spiritual shop and basically you go
in and you get a candle, and you get a
candle for something you need in your life or you
want to invite in, and you burn the candle. I
think I've told you about this. Before you burn the candle,
(08:49):
you can't blow it out. You can put a plate
on top of the candle so that it goes out
and then you re light it with intention, but you
can't blow it out because the theory is it blows
out your wish, your goal. You're in tension anyway. So
they've got a specific candle around house and home and everything,
so I got them that one. And then you take
(09:11):
the candle wax once it's been out, back in and
they'll read for you, which is really cool. So that
was really sweet. Traded Joe's. I think they do this
around Memorial Memorial Day, which is next Monday. Here in
La it's a public holiday, so in on Memorial Day
it's like the unofficial kickoff of the summer season. In La,
(09:33):
but also like it's not that far away to fourth
of July, which is when all the dial flavored things
come out, Like pickle Deal is a flavor profile here
in America. Anyway, traded Joe's do these deal pickle Chippos
and I was feeling a little bit of pmis and
I got myself a bag and I had it as
a meal, Yes, I did. I had it as a
(09:55):
meal before a meeting. I was like, okay, well that's lunch.
And I had a huge bag of it was so yummy.
Oh I got to this cool thing. Basically, my friend
wrote Beck wrote to me and she was like, oh,
I'm doing a Q and A with George Miller. He's
the director of all the Mad Maxes, also Babe and
cool other stuff. I think he did Witches of East
(10:16):
Week as well, anyway, and I was like, oh my god,
how do I get on? It was a live one,
and she's like here and set me in the link
and I just it was eight dollars and I did
this Q and A with George Miller and it was amazing.
It was so interesting. I took so many notes. I'll
actually see if I can read you some notes because
it was very cool and fascinating. Ah yeah, so he said.
(10:41):
He talked about rhythm and beats being the key, much
like he loves working with composers because he think he
shoots kind of like the same way he talks about
preparation giving you agility. You can fall back on your
preparation when you're tired or things aren't working out, you know,
like preparation is key. What else do you say? It
(11:02):
was something really cool. His sets have crews of over
a thousand people, so he said, you want to organize
clear principles. He talked a lot about like Max, who
was our hero in Mad Max, and he's always on
the search for his better self. Very Joseph Campbell Hero's
(11:22):
journey kind of vibes. Talked about how he works with
storyboards more than scripts, which is kind of what he's
famous for. Anyways, very fascinating and oh and he said
this other cool thing that he learned about Alfred Hitchcock,
who said all the work has finished on the first
day of principal photography. I eat all your work's done
(11:43):
before the shooting. Same goes for actors, like all your
preparation happens before you start filming. And it comes back
to that idea of preparation giving you agility. How cool. Anyway,
that were the notes that I took.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
I tried to really yummy new chocolate milk chocolate here
in La really low sugar as well. It's called wild
West Chocolate, highly recommended. I tried the almond raspberry flavor.
It's really nice, really nice.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Monday's episode Noah Hunter Dorsy absolute legend. If you have
like that entrepreneurial spirit, or you have a dream or
any of that kind of stuff, that's the episode for you.
He's flipping unreal. On Sunday, I did I had a
big day of yoga teacher training. So I am doing
my training for Hot Power Fusion, which is a style
(12:35):
of yoga over here and twenty six and two, which
is essentially a renamed version of Bickram because obviously Bigram
got into a lot of hot water and doesn't live
in America anymore. But their style of his yogurt is
like based on really, I don't know the right word,
but like historic yoga poses and there is method to
(12:58):
that style. And so a lot of studios in America
have renamed bit Crumb twenty six and two. It's the
exact same script and everything. So I've done my teacher
training for twenty six and two and hop out Fusion
on Sunday. I did it like my day off. I
was just like stuff and I'm gonna have to get
this done. And it was all like online. My first
ever online training is everything else I've done in person.
(13:19):
But it was really cool to kind of like get
that under the belt. So now I have to learn
the scripts because they're script based yoga classes, and then
I have to audition. It's very full on the La
Yoga teaching space. You audition literally like an actor, and
you get callbacks and then you second auditions. Fascinating and anyway,
(13:40):
I was like mid this training and I was like,
that's it. I got to take a break. I went
to Air One. I got the gluten free burrito so good.
I had a really late like Bronchi Brecy, and then
I also got I was like, I need a little treaty, treaty,
and I got this the Air One Apple Crumble so good.
And then I found this. They've got the Hailey Bebersmooth.
(14:02):
They've got in an ice cream. I think the brand
is called Cosmic bliss and it's like that the strawberry
swirl glaze in an ice cream and it's like pretty clean,
and it's a plant based ice cream, so it's made
from a base of coconut milk. Very good. I had
a coffee meeting yesterday at a cafe called Dinosaur, which
(14:24):
is really funny because last week I had a match
a date at a different cafe called Jurassic Magic, also
dinosaur themed. Well how interesting is that? And isn't the
new Jurassic Park trailer with Scarlet Johansson just come out
there you go. I'm just like tapping into that. Now.
I have a little inspiring VID for you. As you know,
I love me a little bit of inspiration. This is
(14:48):
from director Steven Spielbert. I'm just going to make sure
the vole's up for you because as soon as I
hit play, it goes oka are you ready for this?
Here we go. It's really cool. It's about listening to
your intuitions.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Sometimes a dream almost whispers, and I've always said to
my kids, the hardest thing to listen to your instincts.
Your human personal intuition always whispers. It never shouts, very
hard to hear. So you have to every day of
your lives. If you ready to hear what whispers in
(15:21):
your ear, it very rarely shouts. And if you can
listen to the whisper and if it tickles your heart
and it's something you think you want to do for
the rest of your life, then that is going to
be what you do for the rest of your life.
And we will benefit from everything you do.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
How good, Thank you, Steven Spielberg. I love that. All right.
We are going to end today with another little Oracle
card reading. So the same deck as last week, the
Mermaids and Dolphins deck giving a shuffle here nearly hitting
the mic. So my nan taught me, Dorothy. She taught
(16:02):
me that you hold it in your right hand and
new shuffle with your left. And then what we do
is like I split out like a rainbow, and then
I pull three cards past, Present, Future, and then I
always look at the bottom of the deck and sometimes
the top of the deck if I feel like it.
If that makes sense, so just give it one more go.
I always try not to look to it. I don't
(16:23):
like to look. I just like to go by like
what feels good. So I've just put it out in
a rainbow We're just gonna pull three cards. I'm not looking,
I'm just literally trusting my hands. Okay, First card, the past,
contemplation time. Spend time alone meditating upon what you truly desire.
(16:43):
I remember the past can be ten seconds ago. Set
your sites higher. This is for your present. Increase your
standards and don't and expect more for yourself. Don't settle, Yeah,
you don't want to settle. And then future music for manifesting.
To manifest rapidly. Think of your desire while you chant, come,
(17:04):
sing or play music. Top of the deck worthiness, know
that you deserve to receive good in all ways. Bottom
of the deck. Mother healing. As you're feelings towards your mother,
heal your desires manifest more rapidly and accurately. Loll, that's
so funny. My mum is coming to La very soon
(17:27):
in June, and I am. I'm helping book a lot
of her a Colm or some of her are Colm like,
some of her stuff to New York, some of us.
She's a big mad Elvis fan Memphis, and then we're
going to take it to Joshua tred Da Da Da. Anyway,
she is like the opposite of my dad, like a
type organization plus plus bus. Maybe I don't think she'll
(17:49):
hear this, but maybe leans a little bit into that
like organized anxious vibe when it comes to travel anyway,
And so we organize times to zoom and kind of
like I book all like, hey, I'm going to help
a book some of her Airbnb isn't that kind of thing,
And and she'll like I've woke up to a message
in the middle of the night being like, well, we
just need and we need an extra zoom tomorrow. I can't.
(18:09):
I can't do that. I don't like waiting until Sunday.
And I'm like, mom, I'm working forty five hours a
week at the moment, and because of like my shifts
at the moment the yoga studio, it doesn't time up
with the Australian day. Well, like I literally get five
minutes on the phone with boss, honestly, so yeah, poor thing.
But yeah, it's so funny because like I when I
(18:31):
first read that heard that message this morning, I was like,
oh my goodness, I've told her. I've told her I'm
working mental hours just until she gets here kind of thing.
So that I got a little bit of spending money
and She's like, Nah, you got to see me now.
It's so funny, isn't it. It's so funny the dynamic
of parents and whatnot. But I'm really excited to have
(18:51):
her here and to see her. I just think that
like being in that la grind, Like, yes, I'm auditioning,
Yes I'm doing some really exciting stuff. Yes the pot
is amazing, and yes I'm taking exciting meetings. But I also,
like Matt and I because we have a mortgage in Australia,
we have a deal that our Aussie money goes towards
(19:12):
that and our American money pays our rent and living here,
and so we have to work pretty hard to get
us dollars in and so in between, and I want
to be really transparent about this, but like, in between
the auditions and filming and podcasting, I'm working like literally
at a yoga studio, which is totally great, but it
is it just physically takes a lot of time. And
(19:33):
so yeah, I think she's forgotten that I work full
time as well. Anyway, we will get it all sort
I'm looking forward to having her and organizing this adventure
for her. She's gonna have the best time. She's like
going to Chicago, DC. She's got a full week in
New York. I really wanted to go to New York,
but I just couldn't get that time off. Plus I'm
(19:55):
going to try and go to Memphis with her. So yeah,
that's my up. So I feel like I don't know why,
but I want to pull one more card for us
that Mother Healing made me share that with you, Okay,
or two came out good for us self employment. You're
a born entrepreneur and your business is surrounded by magical opportunities.
(20:17):
And the other one is time to move on. It's
time to let go of the old, worn out so
that the new can come in. So that could be
if you're feeling stuck anywhere, or you've got a dream,
a career dream. That to me is a sign of like,
let's give this a red hot crack, like, let's let's
go after this thing. That's kind of what that's telling me.
(20:38):
And then top of that deck is alchemy. Bottom of
that deck is still Mother Healing, so it must be
I must have kept that one the same. I love
the Alchemy card. You have the Midas touch right now,
and every project you begin turns to gold Okay, that's
Oracle card reading. That's your Friday Diary. Big love from
Los Angeles. I'm sure I have so much to update
(20:59):
you on. Next week. Actually, next week, I'm filming a
really exciting podcast. I've found a pod studio here in
LA and I'm filming it all. So after I finished
recording David the Medium True Crime La, I have to
like flick my brain over into the next pod guest
next week. So that's really exciting. And I'm getting pitched
(21:19):
all these big American guests. It's so exciting. I love
this podcast so much. Okay, thank you for making it
come true and for listening and sharing it with your
buttos and all that kind of thing. Have a riper
day if you haven't listened to Noah Hunter Dorsy on Monday.
He's unreal Like he doesn't gatekeep. He's such a go getter.
Three multimillion dollar businesses at twenty seven worked with Kanye
(21:42):
West on the relaunch of Easy Like had a forty
eight hour window to make it work and rebuild his
whole website. Day one. They made like nineteen million dollars
usd wild. He's incredible and sweet and kind and humble.
And shares from the heart. Very very cool human and
are creative as well. So I just think anyone that's
(22:06):
got like an inkling of a dream, that's a great
episode for you. And then Monday's episode, I believe I'm
going to triple check on my notes because I just
want to make sure I've agreed to this date with
the publicist. But it is an incredible author and it
is all about She's written a whole Her name is Jenny.
She's written a whole book about introverts. No one believes
(22:27):
me when I tell them when I'm an introvert, They're like,
she's she was the person that taught me that I'm
a high functioning, like masking extrovert. So I'm an introvert,
but I can mask super well as an extra anyway.
So that's going to come out on Monday. I just
need to check that at times and with her book launch,
so bear with me on that one. But that'll be
your Monday up and then the week after we will
(22:49):
hopefully bring this true crime David the medium ount. That
would be very cool, all right, who were you the
best thing ever? Have a ripper day, boy,
