Speaker 1 (00:17):
What's going on?
Welcome to the channel.
My name is Jon Cerrone.
We're doing a little differentepisode today.
This is more like a vlogactually.
Instead of doing a feel-freeepisode where we talk
predominantly about wellness andother inspirational stories and
stuff, we're really just goingto be talking about me, updates
on my life, hobbies, that Ienjoy, things of that nature.

(00:40):
So if you do like this type ofcontent, let us know in the
comments section, give us a likeand subscribe and all that good
stuff.
But without further ado, let'sget into a little bit of it.
I'm actually a little excitedabout this because it's
different than what we normallydo and, honestly, I just get to
talk about some of the thingsthat interest me.
And you might be asking well, what's going to be first on the

(01:02):
list?
And, to be honest, the firstthing that we're going to be
talking about, we're going tohit them with something good.
We're just going to talk aboutvideo games.
I'm a big gamer?
I'd like to think I am,actually Maybe not in the terms
that other people of thecommunity would label me as I'm
sorry, I do not play Fortnite.
I don't play League of Legendsanymore.

(01:24):
I'm not big on shooters or bigconsole games.
Now that I think about itHonestly, I'm a pretty niche
type of gamer.
Favorite system is Nintendo.
Two favorite series of all timegot to be Pokemon and Fire
Emblem.
Now I do play some open worldRPGs, like Tears of the Kingdom
on the Switch was really cool.
Also, when they ported theWitcher onto the Switch, that

(01:45):
was also really cool.
So I do enjoy the open-worldRPGs.
I'm really big on turn-basedstrategy though, something to
involve my critical thinking, planning, problem solving, stuff
like that.
I liked playing Civ and otherRTSs on computer, like Age of
Empires and stuff, but right nowwe're just going to be talking
about some of the games that I'minterested in.

(02:06):
Right now I am playing an oldcopy of Pokemon White, so that's
Gen 5.
I only played Gen 1 through 4growing up.
I did play Legends Arceus.
That was great, and I alsoplayed the Gen 4 remakes, so
this is the first time I'mplaying Gen 5.
I'm kind of going in blind.
I'm enjoying it, reallyenjoying it.

(02:26):
I actually got a grip made forthe 2DS, so my hands don't hurt
because I'm old as hell.
I guess you know my hands crampup, so I'm enjoying that.
For that, though, I wasreplaying Pokemon Sapphire,
which is Gen 3, probably one ofmy.
It's either Gen 2 or Gen 3, butthat happens to be my favorite
games.

(02:46):
But I was replaying PokemonSapphire on my Analog Pocket,
which is a high definition GameBoy, super bougie, probably one
of my favorite investments I'vemade in the last few years, and
I also got a grip made for thatby Power Up Gaming.
You know what?
I'll drop some links to Analogand Power Up Gaming for that,

(03:06):
because it's really been one ofthe best handheld experiences
that I've had.
So I was replaying PokemonSapphire in my Analog Pocket.
I do have a Fire Emblem gamethat I'm not all the way through
Fire Emblem Engage, which is onthe Switch.
Paper Mario, the Thousand YearDoor has been reported on to the
Switch, so I'm probably goingto get that.
Right now I'm just, you know, playing old Pokemon games gives

(03:28):
me something to think, thinkabout, wind down with.
Video games have always been areally big part of my I'd like
to say wellness, you know itdoes.
I can't say that I haven't beenaddicted to video games, or
it's been a bad habit because ithas, which is actually why I'm
nearing three years withoutplaying League of Legends.

(03:49):
Played League of Legends forlike a decade.
It's a great game.
Unfortunately, it is tooaddictive and too toxic also, so
I had to cut that video gameout of my life, unfortunately.
But video games are reallyspecial to me because they do
give me something to think about.
I look forward to problemsolving, love, a good story.

(04:11):
So that was the first thing Iwanted to talk about was me
playing video games.
Number two on the list.
Another fun topic we're going tobe talking about anime, also a
really big part of my wellness.
Also, we don't have a YouTubechannel for it yet, but my
sister and I did start a podcastcalled Just Anime.
It is out on Spotify, googleand Apple where we talk about

(04:36):
just anime.
So check out some of thoseepisodes.
We do have another episodethat's coming out in a few weeks
where we're going to be talkingabout some of the newer shows
that are airing right now.
Anime has been a really bigpart of my sobriety, my recovery
, my wellness, giving meinspiration to be in the shape
that I'm in, to overcomeadversity and also to just enjoy

(04:59):
really good stories andanimation and all that stuff.
So anime is a really importantpart of who I am today.
It also gives me something tolook forward to.
So right now the new season ofDemon Slayer is airing.
Definitely love Demon Slayer.
It's beautiful animation.
Ufotable is one of the bestanimation studios that I've seen

(05:20):
, like with the Fate series, fate Zero and Fate Stay Night,
so those were good.
My Hero Academia is airingright now Another one of my
favorite series, so that's good, that's good.
There's a new series out calledKaiju no 8, which is awesome,
and then another one that'sairing is Windbreaker, which is
also dope.
And I've been watching onecalled Megalobox, which is like

(05:42):
a boxing anime.
So I'm going to try and giveyou bullet points on some of the
ones that I'm watching.
First of all, kaiju no 8, themain character is not a
15-year-old kid with superpowers, he's like 32, and they make
jokes about how old he is.
I really do enjoy watchinganimes where the main character
is not some kid.
I love watching them whenthey're older, like Cowboy Bebop

(06:06):
or Samurai Champloo are two ofthem.
I did start that one calledMonster.
I do have to finish that one,but with Kaiju no 8, they make
jokes about his age.
It's inspiring because theguy's kind of like in his 30s
and he's given up on his dreamsand then the show is about him
getting a chance in order to nowchase those dreams again.

(06:28):
But the show itself is great.
The animation is awesome.
The story is pretty good rightnow.
The characters are funny.
I'm really enjoying it.
Windbreaker is also a good one.
If you were a fan of TokyoRevengers, this is another
concept like that where it'slike high school gangs in Tokyo,
not really biker gangs likeTokyo Revengers, but just kind

(06:50):
of like gangs.
You know ruffians or you knowthey call them degenerates.
So it's really cool.
The one qualm I had with TokyoRevengers is the animation isn't
great.
Windbreaker the animation isreally awesome.
The fights are cool.
The music is really cool too.
Highly recommend givingWindbreaker a shot, and with

(07:11):
Demon Slayer and my Hero, youkind of already know what you're
going to get.
Those are two of theheavyweights in the anime
community right now.
They're definitely in theirfinal arcs of their respective
shows, so it's getting reallyinteresting to see how things
are coming together after beinga fan for the last few years.
Megalobox is cool.

(07:32):
It's kind of dystopian future alittle bit, where it's a boxing
anime where the people havelike kind of robotic arms and
stuff attached to them and theybox with it.
It's kind of cool.
It's actually made me want toget into boxing.
So the sports animes are prettyinteresting.
The other sports anime I'vewatched would be Haku, so that

(07:53):
one's cool too.
See, I've been watching, obviously, obviously a lot of
anime.
I'm enjoying that.
There's also that time I gotreincarnated as a slime that's
airing right now that I got toget caught up on too.
I watch a lot of my anime onCrunchyroll or Hulu and I keep
up to date with anything that'sairing with my anime list.
Yeah, video games and anime area really big part of who I am

(08:17):
and I do enjoy talking aboutthem.
So if you guys want me to talkabout more of that, I've been
gaming and watching anime forover 20 years now, I think.
So I always like talking aboutthat stuff.
We're going to talk a littlebit about wellness, or I should
say, yeah, we're going to talkabout wellness, talk about talk
about my wellness.
So I've been.
I'm a big basketball player.

(08:37):
I love playing basketball.
I've been hurt for, you know, like two months I've been
rolling my ankle left and right.
That's what I, you know, andI'm old and playing with people
at LA Fitness who don't totallyunderstand how to play organized
basketball.
I tend to get more hurt playingaround younger kids, so I've
been definitely more hesitant onthe games that I play.

(08:59):
Just you know, kids get underme when I'm jumping and then I
roll my ankle and here we are.
So I have been playing.
The last week I've been playingwith people and it's been great
.
Normally when I got hurt I kindof went scorched earth and
stopped working out completely.
This time was different.
I stayed in really good shape, had been going to the gym
regularly at least five times aweek, hitting different muscle

(09:21):
groups, doing heavy, probablyespecially in adaptability.
I've hit weeks and days where Ideal with depression, anxiety
and apathy, but I've managed topower through that, which has

(09:44):
been awesome.
That'd be.
Another topic I'm going to talkabout is going to be the mental
health landscape, but right now, for the physical wellness,
I've been very proud of myselffor how I've come around.
I mean, even last week I didn'treally do anything.
I had a pretty off week lastweek, but this week I got back
to it and I've been runningagain.

(10:06):
I don't like running.
I really don't.
It is a great form of exercise.
It's also nice because it givesyou a goal and something to
push for and strive for.
So I get a little bit of anadrenaline boost there.
So that's been really great.
Because with basketball, samething very goal-orientated, like

(10:27):
getting better at shooting ordribbling or playing against
people.
There's score involved withrunning.
There's or playing againstpeople.
There's score involved withrunning, there's PRs.
My goal is to get back to beingable to run two miles in 14
minutes straight through.
I'm not there yet, that's okay.
So I have enjoyed that.
Heavy cardio days so I'll bikelike 10 miles on a stationary

(10:50):
bike, I'll row for 20 minutesand then I'll walk on an incline
for 10 minutes and then I'll do15 minutes in the sauna.
So I do one of those days atleast once a week.
Otherwise I'm isolating musclegroups, like I'll just do a leg
day, maybe some plyometricexercises, chest and shoulders

(11:12):
and triceps on one day and thenbicep and back on another day.
Pretty standard stuff.
I don't really lift for highweight, low rep.
I do lower weight and higherreps just to build endurance and
tone.
Yeah, so that's kind of whatI've been doing for working out.
It's been working out.

(11:32):
I've been watching my diet, notslamming as much ice cream,
because that's a guilty pleasureof mine.
If you are one of the fans ofthe podcast and you know I am a
recovering addict.
I just reached my five-yearsobriety mark last week and I

(11:53):
tend to get addicted to thingsfairly easily and to like I use
ice cream and video games andanime as other types of habits
that I used to use drugs andalcohol for right.
So, working out, staying on topof my, my exercise, my

(12:15):
nutrition goals and creativegoals, work, finance, like doing
everything that a healthyindividual should have.
You also need to have some sortof release or vice.
It doesn't even have to besuper healthy for you, it just
needs to be something that youfind enjoyment with, that

(12:36):
doesn't necessarily have thepotential to turn into something
terrible.
Right, like I wouldn't likereason with myself right now and
be like well, you can drinkthen because it's out of the
question, I'll, I'm going to besober the rest of my life, so
when I do, you know I had icecream Friday and Sunday, so you
know I had to run like fourmiles one day.

(12:56):
Try and burn that off.
You know you try and usedifferent things to make up for
what you do, right?
Yeah, don't get in a habit ofgoing scorched earth with a
bunch of bad habits anddecisions and then keep that
going for even longer than aweek, like it's okay to have a
bad week.
I have bad weeks all the time.
Then I get after it the nextweek.

(13:18):
What I used to do is I wouldhave a bad week and I would let
that snowball for a few weeks ata time.
So now I'm able to catch myselffrom doing that and it takes
practice.
All in all, my physical wellnessgoals have been great and yeah,
I just wanted to say that thenext thing we're going to talk
about is going to be the mentalhealth side of things, and

(13:39):
mental health has always been abig topic on my podcast.
I've also I guess you could sayI'm a mental health advocate.
I don't really like doingthings that would consider
myself an advocate on socialmedia and stuff, because I don't
like social media.
I don't even really likerecording things about myself,

(14:00):
but I will say that I have beengoing to see a therapist
regularly.
I need check-ins like that.
It's just who I am.
My brain moves too fastsometimes At the age of 30,
almost 31, there have been someOCD and ADHD tendencies that
have flared up over the yearsand you know I just need help

(14:23):
dealing with it and that's I'mall right being vulnerable,
saying that you know mentalhealth is extremely important.
We need check-ins, check-ups,and you know if you need help,
you need help.
Nothing to fucking freak outabout.
You know, being vulnerable, asking for help has been a huge
help for me.
Another thing that's reallyimportant for my mental health

(14:44):
is going on walks, and peoplemay be like, all right, okay,
that's you know mental health isgoing on walks and people may
be like, okay, that's you knowmental health is.
I keep saying that like I'msupposed to define it, but I
view mental health as just likeyour ability to deal with stress
and also to have I'm not evengonna say a positive perspective

(15:09):
, but to be in sync with yourperspective about yourself and
the world, to be able to handlestress and to be grateful.
I'm not a fucking doctor.
You can't say that.
I'm literally just saying whatI think it is or what my goal

(15:30):
with mental health is, which iswhy I go see a therapist, which
is why I go on walks, which iswhy I read, which is why I set
limits for my screen time, whichis why I try to surround myself
with positive people too.
These are all things that youcan work towards in order to
have a good foundation formental health, and having good
physical routines is integral tomy mental health as well.

(15:52):
Yeah, understanding that hasbeen a huge help for me in the
recent months, and you know it'simportant for me to even talk
to myself like this and tocontinue writing.
So the other thing that Iwanted to talk about were other
habits outside of, I should say, other habits and hobbies
outside of the video games, theanime, the playing basketball

(16:16):
and working out.
Going on walks is pretty big forme.
I'm on and off with reading orlistening to audio books.
Sometimes I'll go a few monthswhere I'm always reading and
then I go a few months where I'mnot reading.
I finished 1984 by GeorgeOrwell, which is a really good
book.
Right now I'm getting throughBeyond Good and Evil by
Friedrich Nietzsche andlistening to some lectures about

(16:37):
that philosophy that I'vestudied and it inspires me in a
lot of my writing.
Other things that I've beendoing I've been freestyling a
lot.
When I do go on walks, I listento lo-fi usually and I'm
usually freestyling rapping.

(16:58):
I started writing poetry again.
So I do that in the morning orat night.
Writing is a big part of who Iam and my mental health and also
what I create because I am anauthor.
You can check out my book thatI dropped two years ago.
I'm actually going to aholistic wellness festival this
weekend and I will be selling mybook as well and my podcast, so

(17:19):
that's exciting too.
But, yeah, writing is a bigpart of who I am Able to journal
, just talk to myself, get mythoughts out and also be
creative has been awesome.
Been spinning poi and gloving alittle bit too.
I went to a electronic show afew weeks ago and inspired me to
, you know, take my my lightsout again.

(17:40):
For those that don't know poise, like the people who spin fire
except their lights, it's a typeof flow art.
It's the same with gloving.
So, like tutting finger, tutting, dancing, those forms of
dance have been reallyimportant to who I am and for a
long time.
When I was getting sober, Istopped doing those things and

(18:02):
as I've come into my recovery,I've begun to do these things
again and enjoy them.
So we've touched on pretty muchall the hobbies that I take
part in.
I even dropped a little currentevent that I'm going to be
working at a holistic wellnessfestival.
Some people from my high schoolstarted a non-for-profit and
they're running this festivaland I reconnected with one of

(18:24):
the guys from high school andlooking forward to just doing
more work with what they'redoing, because I'm excited for
it.
It seems like a really greatorganization.
Give them a follow.
Check out their website.
It's a Greater Good Foundation.
So, yeah, there is a holisticwellness festival at Proviso
East this weekend.
So, yeah, looking forward tothat A little nervous, but

(18:47):
should be okay.
So, if you did like thiscontent, let me know in the
comment section, because it doeshelp me get ideas on what you
guys want to hear.
I haven't been recording a lotof podcast episodes recently,
and that's okay.
I do have a few that are goingto be released over the next few
weeks, so keep an eye out forthat.
But again, if you like thiscontent, if you like a specific

(19:10):
theme that I was talking aboutand you want me to do a longer
episode about that, let me knowtoo.
Give me a like and subscribe.
But, yeah, thanks for stickingaround.
Hope you guys enjoyed it.
But have a good rest of yourday, stay up, feel free.
