(00:21):
I'm your host, Dr.
Katie Wood.
Let's dive in, shall we?
In today's episode, you are going
to discover how to recognize key signs.
Your body is producing high quality eggs.
What optimal hormone labs like FSH andestradiol can tell you about your egg
quality in ovarian function, in actionablesteps to support and improve egg quality
(00:47):
naturally in the next three months.
So today we're diving into somethingthat every woman on her fertility journey
is wondering about her egg quality.
Whether you've been told your A MHis low, you're over 35, you've been
told your eggs are old, or you're justunsure of what's going on with your
(01:12):
cycle, then this episode is for you.
And I want you to know, despitewhat you may have heard, you are
not stuck with the egg qualitythat you maybe have in this moment.
It is not black and white like that.
You are born with all of theeggs that you will ever have.
But the quality of those eggs issomething that we can influence.
(01:36):
So today I'm going to be sharing withyou the top five signs of good egg
quality, and I'll also explain how youcan begin to improve if these signs
aren't quite lining up for you yet.
So let's dive in.
So just a quick refresh.
What is egg qualityand why does it matter?
(01:58):
Egg quality refers to the genetichealth and cellular energy of your eggs.
High quality eggs are more likely tomature, properly, be released, and
ovulated, be fertilized, and develop intoa healthy embryo that implants and leads
(02:18):
to ideally a full term healthy pregnancyand poor egg quality can be one of the top
contributors to unexplained infertility.
Failed fertility treatments likeIUI or IVF miscarriages and just
having overall low embryo quality.
(02:40):
But here's the thing that you'renot gonna hear from your doctor,
is egg quality is dynamic.
It can be influenced by yourinternal environment, your nutrition.
Your stress, your inflammation, your blood flow, your mitochondrial
health, and even your mindset.
(03:00):
Okay, so let's dive into it.
The top five signs youregg quality is on point.
So number one is having.
Regular predictable cycles.
So a regular menstrual cycle is ideallyanywhere between 26 and 34 days,
and that suggests that your hormonalsignaling is working and that your
(03:20):
follicles are developing properly.
So why does this matter?
Healthy egg developments.
Starts at least threemonths before ovulation.
And if your cycles are wildlyirregular, it could mean that your
eggs are not getting the consistenthormonal environment that they
need to grow and mature properly.
(03:41):
So signs to look for are your periodarrives within the same window each month.
You're ovulating mid cycle, and you havea luteal phase of about 12 to 14 days.
Number two, havingstrong ovulation signs so
high quality eggs are goingto be the foundation for a
(04:03):
strong and healthy ovulation.
So if your body is ovulating effectively,it means the egg matured properly and was
released in a hormonal environment thatsupports fertilization and implantation.
So signs that you have a healthyovulation, you're having a clear.
Luteinizing hormone surge on ovulationtest strips, you have a consistent basal
(04:30):
body temperature shift after ovulation.
So when we're going from ourfollicular phase to our luteal
phase, we should see about a halfto full degree temperature shift.
You're seeing noticeable, fertilecervical mucus that has that.
Egg white consistency, and you're havinghigh libido around ovulation, right?
(04:53):
We are created to reproduce our bodiesare beautifully created, and that is
where having a healthy libido around yourfertile window is a sign that things are
on point in working the way they should.
So these are clues that your body isgearing up to release an egg with optimal
timing and ideally optimal health as well.
(05:18):
Number three is a healthyluteal phase and progesterone.
So after ovulation, your body producesprogesterone, and if your egg was
healthy and high quality, then thefollicle that actually released that egg
becomes the corpus lutetium, which iswhat secretes progesterone to prepare
(05:40):
the uterine lining for implantation.
So a lot of times.
We're hearing as women, it's prettycommon to hear these days that you have
low progesterone, and we wanna knowhow can we increase our progesterone?
It all starts with thequality of the egg, ladies.
Okay?
If you have a high quality egg, you'regoing to have a high quality you
(06:01):
progesterone release and luteal phase.
So some things to look for.
A luteal phase that lastsbetween 12 and 14 days.
No spotting before your period A BBT ora basal body temperature shift that stays
consistently elevated after ovulation.
And if you're having mid lutealphase progesterone blood work,
(06:25):
we wanna see at least 10 nanogramper milliliter or higher.
Ideally, we wanna seecloser to 15 or over 20.
For optimal ovulation signs, so healthyprogesterone starts with a strong
ovulation, which needs a good quality egg.
(06:48):
Number four is fertilecervical mucus production.
So cervical mucus is a windowinto your hormonal health in the
days leading up to ovulation.
The rise in estrogen levelscause your cervix to produce
that clear stretchy egg white.
Discharge that we wanna see.
(07:08):
So this matters because not only doesthis mucus help sperm survive and travel,
but it also signals that your estrogenlevels are in a range that promotes
follicle development and egg maturity.
So signs of healthy egg quality iswhen you consistently see several
(07:30):
days of fertile cervical mucus beforeovulation, and it's matching with your
other ovulation signs and symptoms.
So last but not least, numberfive is optimal hormone labs
and follicular phase length.
So your lab values, especiallyearly on cycle hormones, can
(07:50):
give us valuable insight intoegg quality and ovarian function.
So one key marker is FSH or folliclestimulating hormone, and we want to
see FSH on ideally cycle day three.
Of your cycle below seven higher levelsmay suggest that your body is having to
work harder to stimulate the follicles, which can be a sign of diminished
(08:14):
ovarian reserve or stress on the system.
We also want to look at estradiolon cycle day three, and that should
be anywhere between 30 and 50.
And if it's too high, then highestrogen could actually be masking
high FSH or signaling prematurefollicle recruitment, which can
(08:36):
of course compromise egg quality.
I.
Another sign that supports good eggquality is a long enough follicular phase.
So that's the first half ofyour cycle from the start
of your period to ovulation.
And ideally you want at least12 to 16 days to allow your
follicles to fully mature.
(08:57):
When the follicular phaseis too short, say ovulation
happens on cycle day nine or 10.
It can mean that the egg didn't haveenough time to develop properly before
release, and this can impact its qualityand ability to fertilize or implant.
So if your F, s, H and estradiolare within range and you're seeing
(09:19):
ovulation around day 12 to day 16.
Consistently, then that's a strongsign that your body is creating an
optimal environment for egg development.
So let's talk about what if you're notseeing these signs, or maybe you're seeing
some, but you're not seeing all of them,
I don't want you to panic.
(09:39):
Okay.
Egg quality can improve within three tofour months with the right strategies.
So following an anti-inflammatory dietand also nutrition that is going to
support blood sugar balance, havingpersonalized mitochondrial support.
So this is something that Ipersonally help my clients with
(10:03):
with an antioxidant test that wedo and it actually shows us what
antioxidants are going to have themost benefit for them as an individual.
Of course, stress and sleepoptimization, making sure that you
are remineralizing your body as well.
You are supporting your detox pathwaysand also doing emotional healing.
(10:29):
And womb work can also really, reallyhelp our internal environment and our
levels of stress that we're feeling.
So I just want you to know, you don'thave to guess your way through this.
I help women and couples like youuncover what's blocking or getting
in the way of your egg quality andfertility potential every single day.
(10:54):
So let's recap.
The top five Signs of strong egg qualityare regular, predictable menstrual cycles.
Clear ovulation signs like fertilemucus, LH surge, and BBT shift.
A healthy luteal phase with sustainedprogesterone, consistent cervical
mucus patterns in optimal hormonelabs in a follicular phase length in.
(11:20):
